The purpose of this thesis is finding out whether offering an Online STPS Graduate Program with a tuition fee is feasible or not. Firstly, definition and brief history of distance education is given. Secondly, distance education applications in the world and in Turkey are studied. The main part of the thesis is the cost analysis made about the online delivery of STPS Graduate Program. The cost items of offering an online course are determined and then specific cost values are assigned to these items. By determining the cost items and related cost values, course development cost is calculated.

Detailed herein is the tethered Biginelli condensation between irninium ion 201 and beta keto ester 206 leading to a model tricyclic ring system representative of the guanidinium core of cylindrospennopsin alkaloids. This was achieved in a biosynthetically-inspired manner in 12 steps and 8.3% overall yield from simple, commercially available 1,5-pentanediol 172. Also discussed is the adaption of this methodology to allow for the highly efficient stereoselective synthesis of all 3 of the cylindrospermopsin alkaloids and the preparation of the advanced synthetic intermediate nitro-alcohol 223.

These alkaloids include lolines, which are insecticidal and insect feeding deterrents. The whole genome duplication (WGD) event is an intriguing mechanism from an evolutionary perspective. Such an event may be the source of new genes, functions or species. Traces of WGD event have been detected in the genome of all four eukaryotic kingdoms: plants, animals, fungi and protists. In fungi, an ancestor of Saccharomyces cerevisiae underwent an event of WGD, about 100 million years ago, after diverging from the Kluyveromyces lineage.
