Abstract. In comparison to the Northern Hemisphere, especially Europe and North America, there is a scarcity of information regarding the historic weather and climate of Southeast Asia and the Southern Hemisphere in general. The reasons for this are both historic and political, yet that does not mean that such data do not exist. Much of the early instrumental weather records for Southeast Asia stem from the colonial period and, with some countries and regions changing hands between the European powers, surviving information tends to be scattered across the globe making its recovery a long and

The invasion history of the gastropod mollusk Bursatella leachii in the Mediterranean Sea demonstrates a dynamic progression through distinct phases, comprising arrival, establishment, and expansion phases. Initial records in the 1930s trace its entry through the Suez Canal, likely followed by larval transport to the Aegean Sea facilitated by natural currents. The subsequent spread to Maltese and Italian waters suggests secondary dispersion favored by maritime traffic or aquaculture activities. The establishment phase shows a significant increase in occurrences and spatial dispersion, with agg

Most existing models analyse the performance of structures under either earthquakes or tsunamis, as isolated events. Soil non linear behaviour has to be taken into account in the study of soil-structure interaction. Elastic approaches are generally adopted for settlement prediction, but suitable soil stiffness values should be chosen. The soil behaviour dependence on strain and stress levels is evident even in the serviceability state of a foundation. In the present work, a simplified non-linear method and operational stiffness values are adopted for the estimate of shallow foundation settlements. The reliability of the approach has been considered by the study of case records and numerical analyses.

This theoretical bias is due, perhaps, to a lack of textual records from the era and the notion that the further one goes back in time the more one strays from ethnographic and ethnohistoric data.
