Abstract:
Under mandatory rotation, the switching cost may be the most influential factor to be considered for experienced mandatory audit rotations. This study attempts to explore the impacts of the mandatory rotation mechanism on company information disclosure and signaling strategies by examining the audit partner and audit firm switching activities of the mandatory rotation company. Are companies that experience mandatory audit rotation more likely to engage industry specialist auditors with better industry-specific knowledge and reputations to minimize the costs of mandatory rotations? Furthermore, in the case of being required to rotate audit partners, do companies rotate only audit partners, rather than changing both audit partners and audit firms at the same time, to minimize switching costs? To explore these problems, this study examined auditor rotations of listed companies in Taiwan from 2004 to 2016; and expected that, to minimize switching costs, mandatory rotation companies are more likely to select industry specialist auditors to be their successor auditors, and are less likely to rotate audit partners and audit firms at the same time. For the audit partner rotations, we find that, compared to voluntarily rotated companies, a higher percentage of companies choose industry specialist auditors to be their successor audit partners under mandatory rotation. Furthermore, the empirical results support our expectations that companies that experience mandatory audit partner rotation are significantly more likely to engage industry specialists to be their successor audit partners and are more likely to rotate only audit partners rather than rotating both audit partners and audit firms around mandatory audit rotation periods.

Shackleton, Thomas, Lorna Sutcliffe, and Claudia Estcourt. "Is Accelerated Partner Therapy partner notification for sexually transmissible infections acceptable and feasible in general practice?" Sexual Health 8, no. 1 (2011): 17. http://dx.doi.org/10.1071/sh10031.

Abstract:
Background: Partner notification in primary care is problematic and of limited effectiveness despite enthusiasm from primary care providers to engage with sexually transmissible infection (STI) management. Innovative partner notification strategies must be relevant to the primary care context. The aim of the present study was to explore the opinions of general practitioners (GP) and practice nurses on the acceptability and feasibility of a new form of partner notification developed in the specialist setting known as Accelerated Partner Therapy (APT), for sex partners of those diagnosed with a bacterial STI in general practice. APT is defined as partner notification strategies that reduce time for sex partners to be treated, and include partner assessment by appropriately qualified health care professionals and here involve telephone and community pharmacy assessment. Methods: Semi-structured qualitative interviews were conducted with a purposive sample of GP and practice nurses in East London, UK. Results: All participants appreciated the importance of partner notification in STI management and felt that APT would improve their practice. They supported prioritising antibiotic provision for the sex partners with provision for future comprehensive STI screening. Although both models were acceptable and feasible, the majority preferred the sexual health clinic telephone assessment over the pharmacy model. Conclusions: GP and practice nurses welcome new strategies for partner notification and believe APT could provide rapid and convenient treatment of sex partners in general practice. This supports further evaluation of APT models as a partner notification strategy in primary care.

Abstract:
The role and potential significance of romantic partners have been acknowledged in the eating disorder literature; yet, few studies have addressed partner perspectives, and none of these have involved dating relationships or considered the implications of the initiation of recovery for partner perceptions. In this study, common themes in the analysis of 12 partner interviews included changing understandings of disordered eating, development of strategies to support their partners, and lack of resources. In addition, participants whose partners did not initiate recovery reported confusion and helplessness, while those whose partners initiated recovery expressed responsibility for and gratification in the positive changes.

Abstract:
This study develops multi-dimensional partner reconfiguration strategies and addresses how they affect firm performance in a series of alliance portfolios by applying the dynamic sustainable perspective. Using data collected from 565 fund product alliance portfolios initiated by 61 Chinese fund firms during a five-year period from 2007 to 2011, the empirical results indicate that both dropping active partners and adding new ones will reduce firm performance. By contrast, reintroducing previous partners will increase firm performance. The average tie strength of the last alliance portfolio moderates the influences of partner reconfigurations on firm performance. Specifically, it negatively moderates the effect of dropping active partners and positively moderates the effect of adding new partners. However, its moderating effect on the influence of reintroducing previous partners is insignificant. These findings have positive theoretical and practical significance for firms pursuing sustainable development by clarifying when and how partner reconfiguration strategies influence firm performance.

Abstract:
As social and ecological problems escalate, the role of collective capacity and knowledge is becoming more critical in reaching solutions. This capacity and knowledge are dispersed among diverse stakeholder organizations. Thus, organizations in the private, public and civil society sectors are experiencing pressure to address these complex challenges through collaborative action in the form of multi-stakeholder partnerships. One major challenge to securing and maintaining partner engagement in these voluntary collaborative initiatives is defining the value proposition for prospective and existing partner organizations. Understanding the relationship between different forms of partner involvement and the subsequent resources that partners stand to gain is necessary to articulate the value proposition of the partnership to partners. This study conducts a survey of partner organizations from 15 different sustainability-focused multi-stakeholder partnerships in Canada. We compare three partner strategies for implementation and value capture and discover that each strategy is associated with different partner-level resource outcomes. Our findings indicate that product stewardship strategies are associated with financial and organizational capital, marketing and promotion with human capital, and internal implementation structures with shared capital. This study has implications for multi-stakeholder partnership researchers and practitioners because it suggests the possibility that certain partner-level outcomes could rely on the partner, as well as partnership implementation strategies.

Abstract:
ObjectivesWe sought to determine willingness of gay and bisexual men (GBM) to give HIV self-testing (HIVST) kits with patient-delivered partner therapy (PDPT) and engage in geosocial sexual networking (GSN) app-based partner notification.MethodsA nationwide sample of GBM who self-tested HIV negative (n=786) were asked about their willingness to give recent sex partners (main and casual) PDPT with an HIVST kit (PDPT+HIVST) after hypothetical bacterial STI (BSTI) diagnosis. Men were also asked about their willingness to notify sexual partners met on GSN apps using an anonymous app function after BSTI diagnosis. We examined associations of relationship status and condomless anal sex with casual partners, recent BSTI diagnosis and perceived risk of HIV on PDPT+HIVST and anonymous app-based partner notification willingness (dichotomised) using binary logistic regressions, adjusting for age, race/ethnicity, education and US region. From the partner’s perspective after receiving an app-based referral, frequency measures were used to report intentions for obtaining subsequent HIV/BSTI counselling and testing, engaging in HIVST if provided a free voucher, and obtaining BSTI treatment from a pharmacy with prescription voucher.ResultsMost (90.1%) were willing to give PDPT+HIVST to recent sex partners after STI diagnosis, and nearly all (96.4%) were willing to notify sex partners met online using an anonymous function within GSN apps. Regardless of casual partner condomless anal sex engagement, partnered GBM had higher odds of reporting willingness to give PDPT+HIVST compared with single men who recently engaged in condomless anal sex with a casual partner. If anonymously notified via an app, 92.5% reported they would likely obtain counselling and testing, 92.8% would engage in HIVST if provided a free voucher, and 93.4% would obtain treatment from a pharmacy with prescription voucher.ConclusionsGBM generally found novel partner notification, testing, and treatment strategies acceptable, indicating the need for feasibility and cost-effectiveness evaluations.

Abstract:
We examined partner notification among syphilitic pregnant women in Nairobi. At delivery, 377 women were found to be rapid plasma reagin (RPR) reactive. Data were available for 94% of the partners of women who were tested during pregnancy; over 67% of the partners had received syphilis treatment while 23% had not sought treatment mainly because they felt healthy. Six per cent of the women had not informed their partners as they feared blame and/or violence. Adverse pregnancy outcome was related to lack of partner treatment during pregnancy (7% versus 19%, odds ratio (OR) 3.0, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.9- 10.0). Our data suggest that messages focusing on the health of the unborn child have a positive effect on partner notification and innovative and locally adapted strategies for partner notification need more attention.

Abstract:
Stakeholder theory dominates in revealing the features of the stakeholders’ influence on various entities; however, only few studies rely on it in the field of enterprises that select banks as financial partners. Considering the enterprise-bank relationship from the stakeholder theory perspective, this paper represents an approach to selecting strategies for interaction with this stakeholder type. The proposed approach includes the following steps: determining the interaction objectives for enterprises and banks; specifying and comparing potential partners; ranking banks to justify the chosen partner/partners for interaction; and selecting interaction strategies and forming the content of the behavior patterns inherent in enterprises (offensive or negotiation strategies). The criteria for choosing a strategy include the objectives of the interaction between enterprises (providing comprehensive services or satisfying individual financial needs) and their financial status that determines the interest of banks in partnership. The application of the proposed methodology for calculating rating indicators and the respective bank ranking showed that 18% of the banks included in the studied list of reliable Ukrainian banks have a high level of innovation activity and an acceptable level of banking service costs for business customers (that is, they implement a customer-oriented policy). Therefore, to receive comprehensive banking services combined with high or medium levels of banks’ interest in interaction, the paper recommends enterprises to choose a large-scale offensive strategy or a large-scale negotiation strategy, respectively. The stakeholder theory, as well as consideration of the criteria defined in the paper, will allow enterprises to choose interaction strategies that meet their needs for financial services and harmonize the interests of partners.

Abstract:
PurposeThe purpose of this study was to inform practice and research by identifying and synthesizing research on interventions in which natural communication partners implemented aided augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) modeling strategies.MethodA scoping review yielded 29 studies. Data were charted related to participant characteristics, intervention characteristics, partner instruction and assessment, and partner perspectives of social validity.ResultsMore than 157 peer and 100 adult communication partners (e.g., parents, special educators, paraprofessionals) implemented aided AAC modeling strategies within included studies. To teach communication partners intervention strategies, researchers frequently reported using (a) oral instruction, (b) modeling, and (c) practice or application opportunities with performance feedback. Partner instruction frequently involved both training and concurrent support (e.g., coaching, facilitation, consultation, follow-up support).ConclusionFindings from this review inform the design and delivery of aided AAC modeling interventions by children's natural communication partners. Findings also highlight important avenues for enhancing the rigor of future research on interventions involving aided AAC modeling, including the quality of reporting and application of principles from implementation science.Supplemental Materialhttps://doi.org/10.23641/asha.8038505

Abstract:
Background Parkinson’s disease psychosis (PDP) has a major impact on quality of life and care partner burden; however, little is known about the lived experiences of care partners in managing PDP. Objective To understand how care partners of individuals with PDP experience their role and articulate their needs related to psychosis. Methods This was a qualitative study of semi-structured telephone interviews. Recruitment was conducted online via the clinical study matching tool, Fox Trial Finder; study activities took place remotely via telephone interviews. Transcripts of the phone interviews were analyzed by grounded theory methods, and a codebook of key themes that emerged from the analysis was developed. Results Nine care partners (all female) were interviewed. Discussion topics in the codebook included (1) care partner burden and guilt; (2) communication with medical professionals; (3) coping strategies; (4) emotional reactions of the care partner to psychosis; (5) sources of knowledge about PD psychosis; (6) attitudes towards medications for PDP; (7) strategies to care for loved ones with psychosis; (8) psychosis triggers. Conclusions This qualitative analysis uncovers important aspects of the care partner experience, including challenges in navigating the medical system and communicating with professionals. Providers treating patients with PDP should be aware of these constraints and provide added support for strained care partners.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The field of work and employment is constantly undergoing changes. In order to help organizations to adjust to new conditions, different models for organizing have been developed. Many of these models are spread worldwide, due to the need for organizations to meet demands of flexibility and efficiency. In this study, a small number of models, which contains solutions of how to organize work in Human Resources, have been selected. The author and scientist Dave Ulrich, who has had a large influence on the development of the work in Human Resources, originally founded these models. The aim of this study was to examine how these models were functioning, in reference to the different departments of Human Resources labor within the township of Uppsala. Through interviews with seven HR employees and two HR executives we have examined how the models were implemented, how the models were functioning in a public organization and how this has affected the relationship between the different HR departments. The study shows that the work with HR has been made clearer for the employees since the models have been introduced. The division between strategic and operative tasks has been a central part of the new design, which has contributed to specialization among the HR employees. At the same time, a certain amount of confusion in the division of labor still exists. This partly seems to devolve upon the difficulty in transferring models that originally were constructed for private organizations into public organizations, together with a deficient introduction to the new models. In addition to this, the changes seem to have been lacking in acceptance among the employees when they were carried out.

Abstract:
Business partners have developed from the controller profession in recent times. The role is divided into the use of financial information and guidance and is expected to contribute in strategic decision-making. The study intends to contribute to the research gap, business partners within small companies. The research question of the study was "What parts and to what extent of the strategic decision-making process in small companies can the business partners influence and why?". The purpose of the study is to create understanding, which means answering how- and why questions which is achieved when answering the research question. The representative of the business partner in small companies was the CFO and not the controller as in larger companies. Interviews were conducted with four companies where a decision-maker and a CFO were interviewed. The questions were asked according to a semi-structured questionnaire. The questions were about the pillars of the study, which are the expectations of business partners from both interviewees, the use of financial information, guidance, and recommendations. Finally, questions were asked regarding the companies' strategic decisions and the involvement of business partners in the form of contributing financial information and guidance to discussions and documents. After collecting data, these were compiled and analyzed in themes similar to the questionnaire. The study's contribution provides indications for future researchers and the conclusions of the study showed that business partners in small companies had an influential part in strategic decisions where guidance and financial information are the role's biggest tools. The business partner has personalized roles with added responsibilities in these small businesses. The business partner's involvement is noticeably influenced by the characteristics of small businesses, but not as high as the study's original expectation. The characteristics, on the other hand, showed tendencies for even smaller companies to have a higher demonstrated degree of these characteristics. The proposed analysis model can be considered a representative model, it shows the context and how all parts are connected.

Abstract:
Before conducting this study, we observed how a lot of Swedish companies replaced Swedish job titles with English titles. As HRM-students, we noticed that a lot of companies in Sweden replaced their old personnel departments with new HR-departments. This became the starting-point of our study. We questioned why this change was happening in society and wanted to further investigate how the change could affect the co-workers within the organisation and their professional identity. The purpose of this study was, by using a qualitative method, to study how an HR-transformation in an organisation may lead to a change in the professional identity for the HR-staff.The qualitative study has been conducted with an abductive approach. We have carried out six interviews with HR-employees in two different organisations. Our conclusions are that an HR-transformation do affect the professional identity through various dimensions of identity in work. We also conclude that the HR-transformation results in a higher prestige for the HR-occupation. Overall, the HR-transformation have been a positive experience for the participants in our study.

Abstract:

Abstract:
In the past decade, HR work has changed as a result of the HR transformation, which entailed the introduction of a new role, HR partner, in order to make the work more efficient and value-creating. The administrative general role would become more strategic and part of the organization's leadership, through the introduction of self-service services and the redistribution of tasks. Although, a change regarding the tasks made the role “HR partner” become unclear. Our study aims to investigate the role of HR partners to clarify what the role entails. Furthermore, the study intends to bring knowledge about how one can develop in the role by examining learning within the role.   The study was conducted using a qualitative method with seven semi-structured interviews of HR partners at various companies in Stockholm and Uppsala. Conclusions of our study has been drawn from our theoretical framework: episteme, techne and fronesis, adaptive and developmental learning, and workplace learning. The study's questions have been answered with the help of a thematic analysis, which gave the result that the role is complex but that the role by all interviewees was explained to be a business-related support function with both operational and strategic tasks. However, we have seen tendencies that the role in some companies has not evolved into the strategic advisory function that was intended. The reason for this, we believe, may be due to lack of time and an experience of limited scope for action, which in turn may be due to clearly defined tasks. All respondents had some kind of network learning and have learned both informally and non-formally. All respondents expressed a desire for increased cooperation, especially with other HR-partners within the company. One conclusion from our study is that an increased focus on collaboration and a clearer definition of roles from the business could lead to an improvement and development of the role “HR partner”.

Abstract:
Bibliography: p. 171-172.
South Africa's HIV epidemic has increased rapidly over the last 10 years, and developing effective strategies to curb it is a priority. The presence of other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) facilitates the sexual transmission of HIV, and the control of STIs has been shown to be an effective way of reducing HIV incidence. One component of the process of STI control is partner notification: a process whereby the sexual partners of patients who have been diagnosed with an STI are informed of their exposure to infection and of the importance of obtaining effective treatment. Partner notification is one of the two strategies to reach and treat asymptomatic and unrecognised STIs, which are highly prevalent in South Africa. Unfortunately, current partner notification strategies are not very effective, and there is a need to improve their effectiveness. This thesis investigates strategies to improve partner notification in South Africa. This aim is achieved through three separate studies. The first is a systematic review of published and unpublished randomized controlled trials (RCTs) conducted around the world, comparing the effects various partner notification strategies, in an attempt to uncover evidence of effective strategies. The review uses methods advocated by the Cochrane Collaboration. Eleven RCTs were found, including 8014 participants, only two of which were conducted in developing countries. The review found moderately strong evidence that either provider referral alone, or the choice between patient and provider referral, or contract referral, when compared with patient referral, improved partner notification. This evidence is of limited value in South Africa, where public health services have not been able to implement provider or contract referral due to the prohibitive staffing costs involved. The review also found that verbal, nurse-given health education together with intense patient-centred counselling by lay workers, when compared with standard care results in small increases in the rate of partners treated. The review concludes that there is a need for evaluations of patient education interventions (including audiovisual presentations), of interventions combining provider training and patient education, and for evaluations to be conducted in developing countries. Further, there is a need to measure potential harmful effects, such as domestic violence, to ensure that partner notification does more good than harm.

Abstract:
Aphasia is a linguistic impairment which affects communication and may have an impact on a person’s narrative ability. The purpose of the present study was to analyse the narrative ability in aphasia by narrative interviews with people with aphasia and their partners. The interviews were scrutinised for strategies used in joint narration involving couples where one of the spouses has aphasia. The definition of strategies was methods to cope with communicative difficulties often due to aphasia. Strategies were also studied in an assessment of independent narration. The specific questions were: Which strategies do couples, consisting of one person with aphasia and their partner, use in joint narration? Which strategies does the person with aphasia use in independent narration? Are there any differences in the use of strategies in joint narration compared to independent narration? Five couples were recruited from conversational groups for people with aphasia in the south of Sweden. The couples were asked questions which were meant to encourage joint narration and the interviews were filmed. In addition to the interview, the narrative ability of the individuals with aphasia was assessed with the Swedish aphasia test A-ning. The interviews and the assessments were transcribed according to principles from conversation analysis. The result showed a variation regarding type of strategies occurring in the couples’ narrations and the frequency of these strategies. In joint narration, repetition was the strategy most commonly used by individuals with aphasia, followed by self-initiated self-repair, word search and gestures. The partners also used repetition to a high extent as well as appendor production. The conclusion of this study is that the narrative ability of the persons with aphasia in independent narration to some extent corresponded with their ability in joint narration. However, there were great differences between how the individuals with aphasia and their partners used strategies to cope with difficulties in joint narration.

Brummel, Lars. Referendums, for Populists Only? Why Populist Parties Favour Referendums and How Other Parties Respond. Association Inter-University Centre Dubrovnik, December 2020. http://dx.doi.org/10.53099/ntkd4302.

Full text
Abstract:
Populists are generally known as supporters of referendums and several populist parties have promoted direct democracy in recent years. To deepen our understanding of the populism referendum link, this study analyses how populist parties in Austria, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands defend a greater use of referendums and how their non-populist counterparts respond to this populist call for referendums. An analysis of election manifestos shows that populist parties justify their referendum support by characterizing referendums as a purely democratic ideal, by presenting it as an alternative to decision-making by ‘bad’ political elites or by promoting referendums as a tool to realise their preferred policy decisions. Populist referendum support is thus related to people-centrism and ant-elitism, as elements of a populist ideology, but also to strategic considerations. These lines of argument are used by both populists on the right and the left, but anti-elitism is particularly prominent in manifestos of radical rightwing populist parties. Populists are not the only supporters of direct democracy – however, there is no evidence that non-populist parties did become more favourable towards referendums to adapt to the populist call for a greater referendum use.

Abstract:
This report shows that Latin America and the Caribbean faces critical policy challenges going forward. It must accelerate the digital transformation to allow businesses and consumers to adapt to a new normal and leverage pandemic recovery to create stronger economies, and also tackle long-standing barriers to adopting digital technologies and bridging digital divides. These have impeded sustained and equitable economic growth even before the pandemic struck. This crisis should be a wake-up call for governments, the private sector, civil society, and international development partners to come together and take concerted actions to advance on consistent, long-term, and sustainable e-commerce strategies that are at the forefront of national and regional productive development agendas. Just as digital solutions allowed countries to overcome the increased role of distance within the context of the pandemic in shaping consumption and business, they should also be harnessed to increase regional economic integration beyond this emergency situation.

Abstract:
In 2015, the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research (BMBWF), together with the Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology (BMVIT), the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG) and other partners, founded the initiative "Strategic Networking Platforms in the Context of Major Societal Challenges", including such a platform on issues of demographic change. The BMBWF has commissioned the Austrian Platform for Interdisciplinary Ageing Issues(ÖPIA) with its implementation. The three-year BMBWF funding for the Ageing Network expired in mid-2019. Therefore, Department V/10 of the BMBWF commissioned Technopolis Group Austria to evaluate the Ageing Network. The aim of this evaluation was to form a basis for the decision on the further funding of the Network Ageing after the expiry of the current contract. To this end, we analysed and evaluated what has been achieved so far and developed recommendations for the future work of the Network Ageing. Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version)

Abstract:
The Association of Research Libraries (ARL)/Canadian Association of Research Libraries (CARL) Joint Task Force on Research Data Services formed in 2020 with a two-fold purpose: (1) to demonstrate and commit to the roles research libraries have in stewarding research data and as part of institution-wide research support services and (2) to guide the development of resources for the ARL and CARL memberships in advancing their organizations as collaborative partners with respect to research data services in the context of FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable) data principles and the US National Academies’ Open Science by Design framework. Research libraries will be successful in meeting these objectives if they act collectively and are deeply engaged with disciplinary communities. The task force formed three working groups of data practitioners, representing a wealth of expertise, to research the institutional landscape and policy environment in both the US and Canada. This report presents the task force’s recommendations for the roles of research libraries with regard to research data principles, policies, and approaches to managing research data. The report also offers strategies for discipline-specific research data approaches, priorities for automation of processes, economic models to scale and sustain shared resources, prioritization of research data to steward, and decision-making rubrics.

Full text
Abstract:
Countries globally are committing to achieve future greenhouse gas emissions reductions to address our changing climate, as outlined in the Paris Agreement from the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Conference of the Parties. These commitments, called nationally determined contributions (NDCs), are based on projected anthropogenic greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions levels across all sectors of the economy, including land use, land use change, and forestry (LULUCF) activities. Projecting LULUCF emissions is uniquely challenging, and the uncertainty of future LULUCF emissions could require additional mitigation efforts in the land use sectors to reduce the risk of NDC noncompliance. The objectives of this paper are to provide critical information on what forest sector mitigation activities are currently underway in the United States on private lands, review recent literature estimates of the mitigation potential from these activities (and associated economic costs), identify gaps in the literature where additional analytical work is needed, and provide recommendations for targeted mitigation strategies should US emissions approach or exceed targeted post-2020 NDC levels.
