I dagens konkurrens mellan företag och individer är det, inom ett företag, ytterst viktigt att placera rätt person på rätt plats samt att ta tillvara på de talanger som en organisation har att arbeta med. “Utan människorna fungerar ingenting, men med rätt personer för uppgiften finns ändlöst med möjligheter att förverkliga den.” (Lindelöw, 2008, s. 18). HR-avdelningen på ett företag bör sträva efter organisationens strategi i syfte att uppnå högre effektivitet och framtida mål (Boglind, Hällstén och Thilander, 2013). Även om det finns en vision om att HR-avdelningen bör inta en strategisk utveckling är det idag inte alltid lika självklart på alla arbetsplatser menar Robinson och Robinson (2006). Utan självklar framgång betonas att en HR-avdelnings största utmaning är att bli en strategisk affärspartner. “Frågan är inte om HR-avdelningen ska bli strategisk. Frågan är när och hur den ska bli det.” (Robinson och Robinson, 2006, s. 265). Uppsatsen syftar till att skapa förståelse för utvecklingsmöjligheter av HR som strategisk partner i företag. Skribenterna har utgått från ett deduktivt synsätt, vilket innebär att arbetet har en teoretisk grund för att sedan mynna ut i en slutsats. Under uppsatsen tog skribenterna kontakt med HR-avdelningar på Linnéuniversitetet, Växjö Kommun, Atea Logistics, Fortnox, Företag X samt Södra Skogsägarna för att hålla semi-strukturerade intervjuer tillsammans med deras HR-representanter. De frågor som skribenterna av uppsatsen ställde under sina inbokade intervjuer på företagen utgår ifrån teori som bygger på företagsstruktur, kärnverksamhet, ledningsgrupp, strategisk HR & affärspartner samt värdeskapande HR. Under intervjuerna tillsammans med företagens HR-representanter undersöktes bland annat hur företagen arbetar idag samt hur de optimalt skulle vilja arbeta i framtiden för att uppnå ett mer strategiskt arbete. Inledningsvis under intervjuerna ombads även representanterna fylla i en HR-positioneringsmodell som syftar till att påvisa hur företagen arbetar idag samt huruvida deras arbete är inriktat mot ett mer traditionellt eller strategiskt HR-arbete. Vidare in i uppsatsen analyserades det insamlade empirimaterialet ställt mot teorin för att finna utveckling och förändringsförslag till hur företag kan arbeta mer med strategiskt partnerskap. För att HR-avdelningen ska få ett större inflytande på ett företag är det viktigt att alla på företaget förändrar sin syn på HR-avdelningen och blir mer mottagliga för att en förändring bör ske. HR-avdelningen bör höja rösten och göra sig hörda bland de övriga avdelningarna på företaget samt även finnas representerade i ledningsgruppen. Genom att i högre grad involvera HR-avdelningen i hela företagets strategiska arbete kan företagets kärnverksamhet få uppstöttning ifrån HR-avdelningen att uppnå sitt strategiska arbete och mål. I vissa fall kan även företag lägga över ansvaret för en del arbetsuppgifter, som inte tillför något värde till kärnverksamheten, men som ändå måste utföras. En del företag väljer att outsourca delar av sin bemanning, löneenhet, rekrytering etcetera, medan andra företag vill göra allt själva.

Abstract:
The field of work and employment is constantly undergoing changes. In order to help organizations to adjust to new conditions, different models for organizing have been developed. Many of these models are spread worldwide, due to the need for organizations to meet demands of flexibility and efficiency. In this study, a small number of models, which contains solutions of how to organize work in Human Resources, have been selected. The author and scientist Dave Ulrich, who has had a large influence on the development of the work in Human Resources, originally founded these models. The aim of this study was to examine how these models were functioning, in reference to the different departments of Human Resources labor within the township of Uppsala. Through interviews with seven HR employees and two HR executives we have examined how the models were implemented, how the models were functioning in a public organization and how this has affected the relationship between the different HR departments. The study shows that the work with HR has been made clearer for the employees since the models have been introduced. The division between strategic and operative tasks has been a central part of the new design, which has contributed to specialization among the HR employees. At the same time, a certain amount of confusion in the division of labor still exists. This partly seems to devolve upon the difficulty in transferring models that originally were constructed for private organizations into public organizations, together with a deficient introduction to the new models. In addition to this, the changes seem to have been lacking in acceptance among the employees when they were carried out.

Abstract:
Business partners have developed from the controller profession in recent times. The role is divided into the use of financial information and guidance and is expected to contribute in strategic decision-making. The study intends to contribute to the research gap, business partners within small companies. The research question of the study was "What parts and to what extent of the strategic decision-making process in small companies can the business partners influence and why?". The purpose of the study is to create understanding, which means answering how- and why questions which is achieved when answering the research question. The representative of the business partner in small companies was the CFO and not the controller as in larger companies. Interviews were conducted with four companies where a decision-maker and a CFO were interviewed. The questions were asked according to a semi-structured questionnaire. The questions were about the pillars of the study, which are the expectations of business partners from both interviewees, the use of financial information, guidance, and recommendations. Finally, questions were asked regarding the companies' strategic decisions and the involvement of business partners in the form of contributing financial information and guidance to discussions and documents. After collecting data, these were compiled and analyzed in themes similar to the questionnaire. The study's contribution provides indications for future researchers and the conclusions of the study showed that business partners in small companies had an influential part in strategic decisions where guidance and financial information are the role's biggest tools. The business partner has personalized roles with added responsibilities in these small businesses. The business partner's involvement is noticeably influenced by the characteristics of small businesses, but not as high as the study's original expectation. The characteristics, on the other hand, showed tendencies for even smaller companies to have a higher demonstrated degree of these characteristics. The proposed analysis model can be considered a representative model, it shows the context and how all parts are connected.
Business partners har utvecklats från controlleryrket på senare tid. Rollen är uppdelad i användning av finansiell information och rådgivning och förväntas bidra till strategiska beslut. Studien avser att bidra till forskningsgapet business partners inom småföretag. Forskningsfrågan studien besvarade var “Vilka delar och i vilken omfattning av den strategiska beslutsprocessen i småföretag kan business partners influera och varför?”. Syftet med studien är att skapa förståelse vilket innebär besvarande av hur- och varför frågor vilket uppnås vid svar av forskningsfråga. Representant för business partnern i småföretag var CFO och inte controller som i större företag. Intervjuer gjordes med fyra företag där en beslutsfattare och en CFO intervjuades. Frågorna ställdes enligt ett semistrukturerade frågeformulär. Frågorna handlade om studiens grundpelare vilket är förväntningarna på business partners från båda intervjuade, användningen av finansiell information, rådgivning och rekommendationer. Slutligen ställdes frågor hur företagens strategiska beslut såg ut samt business partners involvering i form av bidragande av finansiell information och rådgivning till diskussioner och underlag. Efter insamlat underlag sammanställdes och analyserades dessa i teman likt frågeformuläret. Studiens bidrag ger indikationer till framtida forskare och slutsatserna av studien påvisade att business partner i småföretag hade en påverkande del vid strategiska beslut där rådgivning och finansiell information är rollens största verktyg. Business partners arbete och åsikter är högt värderade, de arbetar i skräddarsydda roller med ytterligare ansvarsområden i småföretagen. Business partnerns involvering är märkbart påverkad av småföretagens karaktärsdrag men inte lika hög som studiens ursprungliga förväntan. Karaktärsdragen visade däremot tendenser till att mindre småföretag hade en högre påvisad grad av dessa karaktärsdrag. Den föreslagna analysmodellen kan anses vara en representativ modell, den visar sammanhanget och hur alla delar hänger ihop.

Abstract:
Before conducting this study, we observed how a lot of Swedish companies replaced Swedish job titles with English titles. As HRM-students, we noticed that a lot of companies in Sweden replaced their old personnel departments with new HR-departments. This became the starting-point of our study. We questioned why this change was happening in society and wanted to further investigate how the change could affect the co-workers within the organisation and their professional identity. The purpose of this study was, by using a qualitative method, to study how an HR-transformation in an organisation may lead to a change in the professional identity for the HR-staff.The qualitative study has been conducted with an abductive approach. We have carried out six interviews with HR-employees in two different organisations.Our conclusions are that an HR-transformation do affect the professional identity through various dimensions of identity in work. We also conclude that the HR-transformation results in a higher prestige for the HR-occupation. Overall, the HR-transformation have been a positive experience for the participants in our study.

Kvinnor är idag underrepresenterade i Sveriges ledningsgrupper och det ansvarsområdet som visat sig mest vanligt för kvinnor är professionen HR-chef. HR har under de senaste åren genomgått en förändring mot ett mer strategiskt arbete och börjat representera sitt område i ledningsgrupper. Eftersom HR inte sällan är ett kvinnodominerat yrke innebär det att de ofta träder in i en mansdominerad organisationsmiljö. Vi finner det därför relevant att undersöka hur kvinnliga HR-chefer upplever sin position i ledningsgruppen inom privat sektor med särskilt fokus på ledarskap. Vi ämnar besvara följande frågeställningar: Hur upplever de kvinnliga HR-cheferna sin position i ledningsgruppen inom privat sektor? Hur framställer de kvinnliga HR-cheferna sitt ledarskap? Undersökningen är en kvalitativ studie där valet föll på semistrukturerade intervjuer. Vi har ett urval på sex kvinnliga HR-chefer som arbetar på en mansdominerad arbetsplats och sitter med i ledningsgruppen. De teorier och den tidigare forskning som valts ut har olika utgångspunkter för att kunna bredda vår förståelse av empirin. Slutsatsen av vårt arbete blev att kvinnorna upplever att HR har en självklar roll i ledningsgruppen. Det framkom också att kvinnorna inte ser könsfördelningen i ledningsgruppen som underlig eller att det överhuvudtaget skulle vara skillnad mellan att vara man eller kvinna i deras position. Vi kan dock urskilja outtalade skillnader mellan män och kvinnor.

Det senaste decenniet har HR-arbetet förändrats i och med HR-transformationen som innebar införandet av en ny roll, HR-partner, i syfte att göra arbetet mer effektivt och värdeskapande. Den administrativa generalistrollen skulle bli mer strategisk och en del av organisationens ledning, genom införande av självbetjäningstjänster samt omfördelning av arbetsuppgifter. Detta ledde till en gränsdragningsproblematik och rollen som HR-partner blev otydlig. Vår studie syftar till att undersöka rollen som HR-partner för klargöra vad rollen innebär. Vidare avser studien att bringa kunskap om hur man i rollen kan utvecklas genom att undersöka lärandet inom rollen.   Undersökningen har skett genom en kvalitativ metod med sju semi-strukturerade intervjuer av HR-partners på olika företag i Stockholm och Uppsala. Slutsatser av vår empiri har dragits utifrån vårt teoretiska ramverk: episteme, techne och fronesis, anpassningsinriktat och utvecklingsinriktat lärande, samt arbetsplatslärande. Studiens frågeställningar har besvarats med hjälp av en tematisk analys, som gav resultatet att rollen är komplex men att den av samtliga intervjupersoner upplevs vara en verksamhetsnära stödjande funktion med både operativa och strategiska arbetsuppgifter. Däremot har vi sett tendenser till att rollen på vissa företag inte utvecklats till den strategiska rådgivande funktion som varit avsikten. Orsaken till det tror vi kan bero på tidsbrist och en upplevelse av begränsat handlingsutrymme, vilket i sin tur kan bero på otydligt definierade arbetsuppgifter. Samtliga respondenter hade någon form av lärande forum och har lärt sig både informellt och icke-formellt. Samtliga respondenter uttryckte en önskan om ett ökat samarbete, med främst andra HR-partners inom företaget. En slutsats från vår studie är att ett ökat fokus på samarbete och en tydligare definition av roller från verksamheten skulle kunna leda till en förbättring och utveckling av rollen som HR-partner.
In the past decade, HR work has changed as a result of the HR transformation, which entailed the introduction of a new role, HR partner, in order to make the work more efficient and value-creating. The administrative general role would become more strategic and part of the organization's leadership, through the introduction of self-service services and the redistribution of tasks. Although, a change regarding the tasks made the role “HR partner” become unclear. Our study aims to investigate the role of HR partners to clarify what the role entails. Furthermore, the study intends to bring knowledge about how one can develop in the role by examining learning within the role.   The study was conducted using a qualitative method with seven semi-structured interviews of HR partners at various companies in Stockholm and Uppsala. Conclusions of our study has been drawn from our theoretical framework: episteme, techne and fronesis, adaptive and developmental learning, and workplace learning. The study's questions have been answered with the help of a thematic analysis, which gave the result that the role is complex but that the role by all interviewees was explained to be a business-related support function with both operational and strategic tasks. However, we have seen tendencies that the role in some companies has not evolved into the strategic advisory function that was intended. The reason for this, we believe, may be due to lack of time and an experience of limited scope for action, which in turn may be due to clearly defined tasks. All respondents had some kind of network learning and have learned both informally and non-formally. All respondents expressed a desire for increased cooperation, especially with other HR-partners within the company. One conclusion from our study is that an increased focus on collaboration and a clearer definition of roles from the business could lead to an improvement and development of the role “HR partner”.

South Africa's HIV epidemic has increased rapidly over the last 10 years, and developing effective strategies to curb it is a priority. The presence of other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) facilitates the sexual transmission of HIV, and the control of STIs has been shown to be an effective way of reducing HIV incidence. One component of the process of STI control is partner notification: a process whereby the sexual partners of patients who have been diagnosed with an STI are informed of their exposure to infection and of the importance of obtaining effective treatment. Partner notification is one of the two strategies to reach and treat asymptomatic and unrecognised STIs, which are highly prevalent in South Africa. Unfortunately, current partner notification strategies are not very effective, and there is a need to improve their effectiveness. This thesis investigates strategies to improve partner notification in South Africa. This aim is achieved through three separate studies. The first is a systematic review of published and unpublished randomized controlled trials (RCTs) conducted around the world, comparing the effects various partner notification strategies, in an attempt to uncover evidence of effective strategies. The review uses methods advocated by the Cochrane Collaboration. Eleven RCTs were found, including 8014 participants, only two of which were conducted in developing countries. The review found moderately strong evidence that either provider referral alone, or the choice between patient and provider referral, or contract referral, when compared with patient referral, improved partner notification. This evidence is of limited value in South Africa, where public health services have not been able to implement provider or contract referral due to the prohibitive staffing costs involved. The review also found that verbal, nurse-given health education together with intense patient-centred counselling by lay workers, when compared with standard care results in small increases in the rate of partners treated. The review concludes that there is a need for evaluations of patient education interventions (including audiovisual presentations), of interventions combining provider training and patient education, and for evaluations to be conducted in developing countries. Further, there is a need to measure potential harmful effects, such as domestic violence, to ensure that partner notification does more good than harm.

Abstract:
Aphasia is a linguistic impairment which affects communication and may have an impact on a person’s narrative ability. The purpose of the present study was to analyse the narrative ability in aphasia by narrative interviews with people with aphasia and their partners. The interviews were scrutinised for strategies used in joint narration involving couples where one of the spouses has aphasia. The definition of strategies was methods to cope with communicative difficulties often due to aphasia. Strategies were also studied in an assessment of independent narration. The specific questions were: Which strategies do couples, consisting of one person with aphasia and their partner, use in joint narration? Which strategies does the person with aphasia use in independent narration? Are there any differences in the use of strategies in joint narration compared to independent narration? Five couples were recruited from conversational groups for people with aphasia in the south of Sweden. The couples were asked questions which were meant to encourage joint narration and the interviews were filmed. In addition to the interview, the narrative ability of the individuals with aphasia was assessed with the Swedish aphasia test A-ning. The interviews and the assessments were transcribed according to principles from conversation analysis. The result showed a variation regarding type of strategies occurring in the couples’ narrations and the frequency of these strategies. In joint narration, repetition was the strategy most commonly used by individuals with aphasia, followed by self-initiated self-repair, word search and gestures. The partners also used repetition to a high extent as well as appendor production. The conclusion of this study is that the narrative ability of the persons with aphasia in independent narration to some extent corresponded with their ability in joint narration. However, there were great differences between how the individuals with aphasia and their partners used strategies to cope with difficulties in joint narration.
Afasi medför påverkan på kommunikationen då den språkliga förmågan är nedsatt, vilket i sin tur inverkar på narrationen. Syftet med föreliggande studie var att undersöka den narrativa förmågan hos personer med afasi genom narrativa intervjuer med personer med afasi och deras partners. Med intervjuerna som utgångspunkt studerades vilka strategier, det vill säga metoder att hantera problem som uppstår i kommunikationen oftast till följd av afasin, som används vid gemensamt berättande i par där en av personerna har afasi samt vilka strategier personen med afasi använder vid självständigt berättande i testsituation. Frågeställningarna var: Vilka strategier används vid gemensamt berättande i par där en av personerna har afasi? Vilka strategier använder personen med afasi vid självständigt berättande i testsituation? Finns det skillnader i det gemensamma och enskilda berättandet vad gäller användningen av strategier? Via samtalsgrupper i södra Sverige för personer med afasi rekryterades fem par till studien. Paren filmades i berättande intervjuer där de fick svara på frågor som uppmuntrade till gemensamt berättande. Utöver intervjun utfördes även en formell testning av personen med afasi med narrationsdelen i A-ning. Både intervjuerna och testningarna transkriberades enligt samtalsanalytiska principer. Resultatet visade att det rådde variation gällande typ av strategier och hur ofta de förekom i parens berättande. De vanligast förekommande strategierna hos personerna med afasi vid gemensamt berättande var repetition, egeninitierad självreparation, ordsökning och gester. Även partners till personerna med afasi använde sig mest av repetition, följt av utökad produktion. Slutsatsen är att personernas med afasi narrationsförmåga i det enskilda berättandet till viss del överensstämde med deras narrationsförmåga i det gemensamma berättandet, samt att det fanns stora skillnader mellan hur personerna med afasi och deras partners använde sig av strategier för att hantera de svårigheter som uppstår i berättandet.

United States Security Force Assistance (SFA) provided to partner nations (PN) enjoys varying degrees of success. The conduct of a PN government can have a tremendous impact on the success of SFA efforts and, although it is often ignored, is not beyond the capability of the U.S. to influence. Additional factors within U.S. control, such as the establishment of clear goals and objectives, as well as unity and continuity of effort, often do not receive adequate emphasis in SFA operations. The way U.S. advisors are selected, trained, and employed can also have a significant impact on the success of SFA operations. Although General Purpose Forces (GPF) have assumed a greater advisory role in recent years, the training they currently receive is not adequate to make them effective advisors. This thesis will show that, in order for U.S. SFA missions to be successful, such operations must: be based on clearly stated goals and objectives agreed upon by both the U.S. and the PN government, be contingent upon a PN government adhering to prescribed standards of conduct, and employ advisory personnel and units that have received specialized training in advisory duties.

Vi har intervjuat partier angående deras ideologi och bemötande samt vilka strategier de har antagit för att bemöta nischpartiet Feministiskt Initiativ. Vi har tittat närmare på Position, salience and ownership theory, PSO-teorin, för att se om partier har använt sig utav de strategier som nämns i teorin. Vi har även studerat hur tillkomsten av Feministiskt Initiativ har påverkat de etablerade partiernas prioriteringar och profilering i frågor om jämställdhet och feminism. Vi fokuserar också på tidigare forskning gällande feminismen.Partier ser annorlunda på feminism och på jämställdheten. Efter att ha intervjuat de utvalda partierna så syns det tydliga kopplingar till PSO-teorin. Vi har också studerat om partierna har satt feminism och jämställdhet högre upp på den politiska agendan sedan Feministiskt Initiativs intåg i politiken.
This essay is about how some of the already established parties have responded to the Feminist Initiative and it’s entry into politics and the parties' views on gender equality and feminism.We have used qualitative methods in the form of interviews and data collection. We interviewed the parties regarding their ideology and attitude as well as the strategies they have adopted to address niche party Feminist Initiative. We have looked at Position, salience and ownership, PSO-theory to see if the parties have used out the strategies significantly in theory. We also studied how the advent of the Feminist Initiative has affected the established parties' priorities and profiling the issues of gender equality and feminism. We also focus on earlier research on feminism.Parties look different on feminism and gender equality. After interviewing the desired parties it will show clear links with PSO-theory. We also studied whether the parties have put feminism and gender equality higher up on the political agenda since the Feminist Initiative's entry into politics.The original text is in Swedish.

Interpersonal influence refers to the strategies and tactics relational partners use to establish, reinforce, or alter each other's cognitions, emotions, and behaviors. It is argued that in close relationships, influence is used to attain instrumental goals, manage the relationship, and maintain desired identities. Six strategic categories, involving 36 tactics, were created to assess influence during the videotaped disagreements of fifty couples (N = 100). Correlational results suggest that: (1) relational partners are more persuasive when using strategies of other-support and content-validation and less persuasive when using content-invalidation, (2) greater satisfaction is experienced when one's partner uses other-support strategies and does not use accusations, and (3) relational message interpretations of equality, immediacy, informality, and similarity are associated with content-validation and other-support strategies; while interpretations of dominance, lack of immediacy, and lack of equality are associated with content-invalidation and other-accusations. An exploratory effort is made to determine which nonverbal behaviors are most closely associated with verbal strategies and how they predict outcome and global measures.

This thesis, joint with F. Mezzanotti, provides a lower bound for the extent of strategic voting. Voters are strategic if they switch their vote from their favorite candidate to one of the main contenders in a tossup election. High levels of strategic voting are a concern for the representativity of democracy and the allocation efficiency of government goods and services. Recent work in economics has estimated that up to 80% of voters are strategic. We use a clean quasi experiment to highlight the shortcomings of previous identification strategies, which fail to fully account for the strategic behavior of parties. In an ideal experiment we would like to observe two identical votes with exogenous variation in the party victory probability. Among world parliamentary democracies 104 have a unique Chamber, 78 have two Chambers with different functions, and only one nation has two Chambers with the same identical functions: Italy. This allows us to observe two identical votes and therefore a valid counterfactual. In addition, the majority premia are calculated at the national level for the Congress ballot and at the regional level for the Senate ballot. This provides exogenous variation in the probability of victory. Because the two Chambers have identical functions, a sincere voter should vote for the same coalition in the two ballots. A strategic voter would instead respond to regions' specific victory probabilities. We combine this intuition with a geographical Regression Discontinuity approach, which allows us to compare voters across multiple Regional boundaries. We find much smaller estimates (5%) that we interpret as a lower bound but argue that it is a credible estimate. We also reconcile our result with the literature larger estimates (35% to 80%) showing how previous estimates could have confounded strategic parties and strategic voters due to the use of a non identical vote as counterfactual.

Avec un malaise multilatéral, évident par un nombre significatif des blocages dans certaines négociations internationales, et l'émergence d'influentes coalitions Sud-Sud, les analyses concernant les effets de ces nouvelles voix sont devenues incontournables. Pour explorer les continuités et les transformations de la coopération multilatérale dans un contexte d'absence de leadership et d'une autorité souvent contestée, cette recherche part du cas du Brésil et du partenariat stratégique Brésil-UE. L'objectif est de saisir les réalités de la construction des normes multilatérales à partir de la perspective d'une puissance émergente et ses relations avec une puissance établie qui est très intéressée à la promotion d'un ordre international fondé sur des règles. Pour accomplir cette tâche, la présente thèse analyse la raison d'être de ce partenariat stratégique, ainsi que le comportement diplomatique du Brésil pendant l'ère du président Lula (2003-2010) dans trois domaines spécifiques: le commerce, le développement durable et la sécurité. Cette analyse se développe en perspective avec le point de vue de l'UE sur chacun des thèmes choisis. D'un point de vu empirique, je défends qu'il existe un modèle de comportement diplomatique UE-Brésil dans lequel la promotion du multilatéralisme comme une norme est en effet une réalité. Cependant, après avoir examiné un certain nombre d'études de cas, il est évident que cette convergence et cette préférence sont confrontées à des défis importants. Dans ce sens, la thèse conduit à la conclusion que le Brésil et l'UE sont des partenaires stratégiques sans une stratégie. Une raison centrale en est qu’il est devenu plus difficile pour les puissances traditionnelles de convaincre le Brésil qu'il doit suivre les règles de forme, forgées notamment par l'Union européenne et les États-Unis. A travers l'exemple de la montée en puissance du Brésil, cette recherche a le mérite de favoriser la connaissance des forces motrices d'interactions et d'interdépendances mondiales, à une époque de transition du pouvoir sur la scène internationale
The economic and political empowerment of a select group of countries, notably China, India, and Brazil, stimulated a new agenda of research among International Relations scholars and inspired the notion of "rising powers." With a multilateral malaise, evident through a significant number of deadlocked international negotiations (i.e. trade, climate change), and the emergence of influential South-South coalitions, analyses that could understand the effects of these new voices became pressing. To explore the shifting conditions of multilateral cooperation under a scenario of blurred leadership and contested authority, this research departs from the case of Brazil and the Brazil-EU strategic partnership. The goal is to grasp the realities of multilateral norm building from the perspective of a rising power and through its relations with an established power that is highly interested in the promotion of a rule-based order. To accomplish this task, this thesis analyzes the rationale behind the strategic partnership, as well as Brazil's diplomatic negotiating behavior mostly during the era of President Lula (2003-2010) in three specific policy areas: trade, sustainable development and security. This analysis develops in perspective to the EU's viewpoint on each of the selected issues. From an empirical stance, I claim that there is a pattern in the Brazil-EU diplomatic behavior in which the promotion of multilateralism as a norm is indeed a reality. However, after looking at a number of case studies, it became clear that this convergence and preference has significant shortcomings. The thesis argues that Brazil and the EU are strategic partners without a strategy. One central reason for this is that it became harder and harder for the established powers to convince Brazil that it should follow the rules shaped notably by the EU and the US. This research has the merit to foster knowledge on the driving forces of global interactions and interdependencies in an era of power transition

Syftet med denna kvalitativa studie är att undersöka varför individer väljer att engagera sig ideellt inom idrottsföreningar, vilka strategier de använder sig av inom familjen för att få vardagen att gå ihop samt hur situationen upplevs utav såväl den aktive som dennes partner. Vi har genomfört tolv intervjuer med sex par som är engagerade inom olika föreningar och idrotter. De ideellt engagerade har också olika uppdrag inom föreningarna vilket därigenom påverkar mängden tid och kraft som läggs inom det ideella arbetet. Vi har använt oss av ett bekvämlighetsurval genom att kontakta personer som finns i vår omgivning vilka passar in i de kvalifikationer vi satt, och låtit våra intervjupersoner besvara ett antal frågor utifrån en semistrukturerad intervjuguide. Som en grund till vår studie har vi utgått ifrån teorier om work-life balance, ideellt arbete, motivation, passion och lojalitet. Dessa använde vi sedan för att analysera den empiri som framkommit genom intervjuerna. Resultaten pekar på att de ideellt aktiva drivs av passionen för idrotten samt känslan av att bidra till andra genom en form av samhällsnytta. Ytterligare ett bidrag med vår studie var att vi även studerade partnern till den ideellt aktive. Denne anser i de flesta fall att det ideella arbetet är någonting positivt, även om det tar tid och energi från dem båda på olika sätt. Paren menar att de kan få ihop de olika sfärerna, men att det då krävs strategier i form av planering, prioritering och vilja att lösa det.

The purpose of this study is to examine the strategic choice of mainstream parties in relation to the competition of voters posed by a niche party and their most important issue, in this case radicalist rightwing populists and the migration issue. The study uses a comparative approach to examine the mainstream parties Social Democrats and Moderates reaction to the niche parties New Democracy 1991-1994 and Sweden Democrats 2010-2015. Using Meguid´s PSO-theory and by performing an qualitative analyse of the parties rhetoric and political suggestions in the parliamentary debates as well as in government bills and reservations in committee reports, the study aims to describe mainstream parties position on the issue and if and how they change position and strategy. The results of the study shows that both mainstream parties over all applies an adversarial strategy, aiming to maintain distance to the niche party and its position but with time and due to changes in the political environment, changes in position and strategy takes place and the mainstream parties applies a slightly more accommodative strategy.

The goal of the thesis "Mexico -- strategic partner of the EU in Latin America (situation, problems and future of the relations)" is the analysis of mutual relations of the European Union and the United States of Mexico on the basis of the Agreement on Economic Partnership, Political Coordination and Cooperation (Global Agreement). The first part of the thesis deals with historical development of relations EU -- Mexico in the context of european-latinamerican relations. The term strategic partnership and the motives of both partners for closer cooperation are defined. The Agreement is analysed as well. In the second part, the relations, three pillars of the Agreement are analysed. Text deals with trade, political dialogue format and with a lot of programs and projects of development cooperation. In the third part there is a final synthesis of information received. The current situation of relations is described, as well as successes achieved during eleven years of the Agreement and problems impeding more intensive development of their relations. A particular attention is payed to dialogue with the civil society which is considered insufficient. On the basis of information obtained the author tries to estimate possible future development of the relations EU -- Mexico. The first hypothesis claiming that the Global Agreement hasn't reached its potential was proved. The second hypothesis claiming that in spite of intensive development of the relations EU -- Mexico in the last decade, the United States of America persistently and undoubtedly dominate especially in the external economic relations of Mexico was proved as well. It means, Mexico wasn't able to diversificate these relations to such extent so as to reduce dominant position of the USA in this context.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate and describe how principals in Swedish schools handle the issue concerning the participation of political parties. I want to find out a) What factors are the most  important  accordning  to  principals  when  deciding  if  political  parties  and/or  political  youth associations should be allowed in to schools or not? What are their positions on the issue? b) What does  the  process  look  like  when  schools  decide  to  invite  political  parties  and/or  political  youth associations? Who is responsible for inviting the politicians? c) How do principals view the new addition to the school law? How will it affect their work situation in the future?The study is qualitative and based on semi-structured interviews with seven principals from different schools in and around central Sweden. The main theoretical starting points are Herbert A. Simons theory of human decision making and organisational theory in the form of Michel Lipskys theory of the street-level bureaucrat. I´m also using an operationalized version of three categories highlighted by Sture Långström and Arja Virta to describe how pricipals approach the subject; the avoiders, the diggers and the tactics.My  conclusions  are  that  principals  have  a  positive  or  neutral  attitude  to  political  parties participating in schools. They percieve it as a possible tool to help shape the students into being active democratic citizens. Altough the principals are still keen on remaing in control of the day-to- day operations in the schools. Visits have to be informative for the students and a part of the regular education.  Schools  therefore  invite  more  often  for  debates  then  allow  political  parties  to  set  up tables in the corridors. Not all schools invite on a regular basis, some not at all. If schools invite it´s mostly in or around election time. Much of this can be attributed to the teachers. Principals tend to view teachers of social studies as having a special responsibility to take initiative. Teachers mostly plan invitations around election time. Therefore chances decrease that political parties also will be invited between elections.

Organisations experience increased social, political and economic pressure that is evident in the increased pressure that stakeholders place on organisations. Organisations increasingly realise that stakeholders’ values and objectives need to be incorporated into organisational strategy as well as the day-to-day management of the organisation. Organisational success and survival consequently depends on the organisation’s network of relationships, which provide the organisation with otherwise inaccessible resources and a competitive advantage. Organisational relationships offer the best solution towards illustrating the value of public relations and communication in the organisation. These relationships enable the organisation to attain its long- and short-term goals. Communication is a key influencer of the success of these relationships and communication managers are consequently better adept to manage these relationships. The relationship perspective of communication posits that public relations and communication managers should act in a boundary spanning role by balancing the interests of companies and stakeholders through effective relationship management. A shift has consequently occurred from purely communication management towards building mutually beneficial relationships between an organisation and its key stakeholders. There has also been an increased recognition of the need for strategically managed communication programs that can effectively contribute to organisational success. Strategic communication assists an organisation to adapt to its stakeholder environment by feeding into the organisation’s strategy formulation process intelligence with regards to strategic stakeholders, which, in turn, assists in building mutually beneficial relationships with these stakeholders. Communication managers’ efforts towards the effective management of organisational relationships has been hampered by the lack of current literature on organisational relationships, a lack of knowledge regarding the factors that influence these relationships, as well as the lack of a reliable and quantifiable definition of organisational relationships. Knowledge on these key areas could enable communication managers to manage these relationships effectively through strategic communication that is characterised by open and two-way communication. This study aimed to determine the connection between organisational relationships and organisational success by investigating the relationship between organisational alliances (as a specific form of organisational relationship) and goal attainment. The three-stage model of organisational relationships proposed by Grunig and Huang (2000:34) was applied to organisational alliances in order to determine this relationship, as well as to determine the influence of key constructs like type of industry, type of alliance, duration of the alliance and the size of the organisation. The reliability of using this framework, specifically the relationship outcomes proposed by the three-stage model, was investigated. The relationship outcomes (trust, commitment, relational satisfaction and control mutuality) were positively related to perceptions of goal attainment. This implies that if trust, commitment, relational satisfaction and control mutuality increases in an organisational alliance, the perceptions of goal attainment also increase within that organisational relationship. These findings suggest that effective communication contributes to perceptions of goal attainment within organisational relationships. It offers public relations and communication practitioners a means to demonstrate the contribution of this function to organisational success. High correlations between the relationship outcomes reflected current findings on these outcomes and a factor analysis indicated that only one factor was being measured – the organisational relationship itself. The study proposed an improved measurement instrument for reliably measuring organisational relationships (Cronbach Alpha = 0.93). The type of industry, type of alliance, duration of the alliance as well as the size of the organisation did not have a significant influence on the relationship outcomes or the proposed measure of organisational relationships. This implies that the current proposed measurement instrument can be applied to numerous contexts. A general linear model was applied to goal attainment (as the dependent variable) and the relationship outcomes (as the independent variables) in order to determine the specific contribution of each relationship outcome on perceptions of goal attainment. The regression analysis indicated that control mutuality was the greatest influencer of perceptions of goal attainment within alliances. A noticeably low influence of trust was also measured. These findings were obtained through the use of an e-mail survey that obtained cross-sectional data, where 154 alliances were observed (n=154). The study contributed to present literature on organisational relationships by using Grunig and Huang’s (2000:43) three-stage model to explain the relationship between perceptions of goal attainment and the relationship outcomes in alliances within the South African context. Strategic communication management provides a solution to a key organisational issue – the organisation’s interdependence with the stakeholders in its environment and how these stakeholders can better be managed in order to more effectively contribute towards organisational success. Communication managers can demonstrate their value by effectively managing key organisational relationships like alliances by integrating these relationships into organisational strategy. These successful organisational relationships also contribute towards organisational sustainability by enabling the organisation to attain its long- and short-term goals.

Many family mediators encounter intimate partner violence (IPV) during the course of child-custody and divorce mediation. By interviewing family mediators in Oregon I have established concrete strategies that mediators use when working with parties who may have a history of IPV. These strategies may be structural, such as building design and intake procedures, or they may be verbal interventions employed during the course of mediation. Mediators employed a wide variety of strategies based on their experience, situations, and intuition. Some strategies, like the use of shuttle mediation, were used by all the mediators I contacted. Other strategies, such as naming problematic behavior, were limited to only a few of the mediators. All the participating family mediators were aware of the possibility of IPV and consciously took measures to limit its influence on the mediation process when it existed.

Personer som drabbats av någon typ av afasi upplever ofta att deras kommunikativa förmåga i hög grad begränsats efter insjuknandet, vilket kan leda till stor eller mycket stor social inskränkning. De psykologiska faktorer som påverkas rör kognition och emotion, sociala strukturer och relationer, exempelvis personliga relationer, yrkesliv eller utbildning. Därmed relateras de psykosociala konsekvenserna av afasi till hur tillståndet påverkar vardagslivet och förmågan till att interagera med den sociala omgivningen. Idag sker intervention för personer med afasi individuellt och gruppintervention eller anhöriginkludering ses som sekundära komplement till den individuella behandlingen. I föreliggande studie undersöks en form av intervention där personer med afasi och deras anhöriga gemensamt får ta del av kommunikativa strategier och tilldelas individanpassade råd. Inspiration har hämtats från den befintliga anhöriginkluderande metoden SPPARC. Målet med interventionen var att den vardagliga kommunikationen skulle stärkas och effektiviseras. Interventionen skedde under en fem veckor lång period och utförts i två olika konstellationer; ett par och en mindre grupp. Gruppkonstellationerna har sedan jämförts med varandra. Båda koncepten utvärderades positivt av deltagarna. De förefaller därmed vara tillämpbara båda två, men beroende på deltagarnas förväntningar och psykosociala behov kan något av koncepten föredras på ett individuellt plan. Resultatet av föreliggande studie indikerar att det finns ett psykosocialt behov av att inkludera anhöriga till personer med afasi i intervention. En ökad medvetenhet hos deltagarna noterades gällande flera av de kommunikativa strategier som behandlades under interventionens gång, bland annat gestikulering och prompting. Deltagarnas utvärdering av perioden tyder på att interventionsperioden framför allt fungerat som ett forum för samtal kring afasi och kommunikation och att den har tjänat sitt syfte i psykosocial bemärkelse. Deltagarna uppgav dock under utvärderingen att interventionen är bäst lämpad som en tidig insats efter personen med afasis insjuknande.

One of the core strategies to transform the United States national healthcare system is the implementation of key technologies such as the electronic patient medical record. Such key technologies improve patient care and help the organization gain competitive advantage. With a high demand for strategic and operational change, healthcare providers are turning to their own internal Healthcare Information Technology (HIT) for integrated technology solutions (e.g., clinical systems, robotics, infrastructure) in order to reduce costs, improve patient care, and unlock new value through innovation. Due to the overreliance on advanced technology solutions for revamping the US Healthcare System, the role of internal HIT needs to evolve into that of an effective strategic business change partner. As such, the purpose of this study was to test an a priori conceptual model of five competencies that would enable HIT to be an effective strategic business change partner. An on-line survey instrument was used to collect data from hospitals across the country and the data was analyzed through quantitative methods. Results suggest that the perception of internal healthcare information technology (HIT) organizations as an effective strategic business change partner is determined by its competence as a Healthcare Strategists, Change Driver, Collaborator, Agile Leader, and Technology Service Provider.

ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The global wine market has faced varying challenges in the first decade of the 21st century; over production brought a power shift in favour of buyers which resulted in a decline in profit margins per bottle sold. The main gainer in these uncertain times has been the consumer. As more regions enhance their wine making skills and embrace superior technology, the wine quality has improved and competition intensified. The growing consumers' wine knowledge has altered quality expectations, placing an added pressure on new brands entering the market. The United States of America (USA, but hereafter referred to as US) remains a growing wine market, with a population size of 303 million people and an appetite for luxury goods and services it continues to be a popular export destination for other wine regions. The latter trend persist despite a cost of entry into the US market being regarded high as a result of the country's three tier system, which allows for further three segments of the value chain from the producer to add their mark-ups on an exported bottle of wine before it reaches the end consumer. The pricing system has proven to be insufficient a deterrent, particularly to the New World wine producers. Australia has remained the most successful producer of the New World wines in the export market for the past three decades; the same cannot be said for South Africa wine industry. While market and strategic orientation, industry plan and interorganisational collaboration are identified as key factors in the Australian success, the partnership between government bodies and wine industry bodies are credited for their unified approach to the US market. The South African government have programmes aimed at promoting the county's export of goods and services. The adequacy of such programmes remains in doubt, particularly in the eminent challenges in the global wine market. The study investigates the extent and nature of a partnership between government bodies and the South African wine industry with regard to effective promotion of the country's wines in the US market. A qualitative methodology is employed to ensure credibility and accuracy of the primary data. Five participants are selected for a discussion, including an exporting wine producer, wine cellars association, wine export council and two government agencies. The Vision 2020 strategy by the South African wine industry is reviewed, with the main focus on the US market and the role of the exporting country's government given the changing international trade regime. The study concludes that the US remains a critical market for South African wine producers despite the high cost of entry, global wine surplus and economic recession, and that success for the country's wines is partly dependent on a unified approach by the industry, attainable though partnerships with government agencies. While acknowledging the continuing government support, it makes recommendations on how to strengthen existing partnerships with regard to the US export market for South African wines. The study lacks generaliseability; however since it is meant to assist design effective export promotion programmes for South African wines in the US market, the absence of generaliseability is considered unproblematic.
AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Die globale wynmark het in die eerste dekade van die 21ste eeu voor verskeie uitdagings te staan gekom. Dit sluit in oorproduksie wat tot 'n magskuif ten gunste van kopers gelei het en winsmarges per bottel wyn wat verkoop is laat daal het. Die grootste voordeeltrekker in hierdie onsekere tye is die verbruiker. Soos al meer streke hul wynproduksievaardighede versterk en die beste tegnologie benut, verbeter die gehalte van wyn en word mededinging strawwer. Soos verbruikers se kennis van wyn toeneem, verander hul verwagtinge ten opsigte van gehalte. Dit plaas bykomende druk op nuwe handelsmerke wat tot die mark toetree. Die wynmark in die Vereenigde State van Amerika (VSA) groei steeds. Met 'n bevolkingsgrootte van 303 miljoen mense en 'n aptyt vir luukse goedere en dienste bly die VSA 'n gewilde uitvoerbestemming vir ander wynstreke. Die tendens om wyn na die VSA uit te voer, bly sterk ondanks die hoë koste om tot die VSA-mark toe te tree. Dié hoë koste is die gevolg van die VSA se drie-vlak stelsel wat dit vir produsente moontlik maak om die waardeketting verder te segmenteer en hul prysverhoging by 'n bottel ingevoerde wyn te voeg voordat dit die eindverbruiker bereik. Hierdie prysbepalingstelsel blyk egter onvoldoende te wees as 'n afskrikmiddel, veral vir wynprodusente van die Nuwe Wêreld. Purpose: Nonprofit-Business collaboration (NBC) is widely regarded as a value creation mechanism for society and business. Research, however, has typically overlooked NBC from the perspective of nonprofit organizations (NPOs). The focus of this thesis concerns the means (a guiding framework) to help NPOs engage in NBC. Through being strategically proactive rather than reactive to what businesses might offer, it is argued that NPOs can increase the scale of their cross-sector collaborations and thus enhance their sustainability. This is a timely issue given the fact that NPOs are typically struggling to maintain their viability in the current economic climate. Theory and methodology: The research has been carried out in two phases. The first concerns the conceptualization of a theoretical framework, being underpinned by stakeholder theory, cross-sector collaboration and the nonprofit literature. In the second phase, the framework has been assessed using primary and secondary qualitative data obtained from 26 ‘active in collaboration’ NPOs. In doing so, three data collection techniques have been utilized, namely: semi-structured interviews (n=38), website content analysis of the 26 NPOs, and document reviews. Key contributions: The thesis contributes to the understanding of the NBC phenomenon by developing and initially validating a framework that captures the complexity of considering NBC as a strategy from the viewpoint of NPOs. The framework integrates the factors that are critical in the development of NBC strategy and the interaction between them. Overall, the evidence obtained indicates that the framework is relevant to NPOs, and corroborates the argument that being proactive and strategic are important ways for NPOs to yield successful collaborations with the business sectors.

Abstract:
The importance of search partnerships has grown as a mode to search for innovations. However, in spite of this development, notions of open innovation combined with new propositions to change the search process in favour of sustainability have unravelled a need to take stock of the existing literature of search partnerships and the aims that these partnerships follow. This review addresses this shortcoming and synthesises the literature on search partnerships to analyse the current state of knowledge to deliver future research opportunities. A systematic review process was adopted by means of a set a set of pre-defined stages. These stages included the formulation and positioning of the review question within the larger literature domains, a systematic research process which included the adoption of search strings, relevance and quality appraisal criteria, as well as a stock-taking process of descriptive and thematic features, which followed the logic of prescriptive synthesis. This process led to a representative sample of 73 articles which were analysed subsequently. The tentative findings reveal that the literature is underpinned by a combination of theories linking to evolutionary or transaction-based understandings of search partnerships. Also, six conditions were found to drive search partnerships and when they are likely to form. Moreover five interventions were identified that relate to the use of search methods, boundary spanning activities, and the number, type and involvement levels with the partner. Finally search partnerships have been found to yield five outcomes: partnerships, and various types of innovations, higher social goals, as well as market knowledge. By combining contexts, interventions, and outcomes, research opportunities are identified that should inform future reviews, including the need for more research in sustainability-led search partnership contexts and a better understanding of search strategy configurations in relation interventions used and anticipated search partnership outcomes obtained.

The rise of populism has put a strain on democracies all over the world, all from South and North America to Asia. The Northern European countries are no exception to this situation, and the rise of right-wing populist parties in the Nordic countries have taken its toll on their respective parliamentary institutions. The methods in which to tackle this development has been varied. Some political establishments have been attempting to isolate and ignore the populist party, seeking to set an example for its citizens, and signaling appropriate democratic values. Others have chosen to include and oppose these parties, as if they were any other political party. This study firstly presents a clear view of the differences in which method has been used in the Nordic countries of Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. All four countries have used different methods, from Sweden’s attempt at isolating the Sweden Democrats, to Denmark’s choice to include the Danish Peoples Party as a regular member of the parliamentary system. Additionally, this study presents a set of theories as to why the methods of choice vary between countries, which are otherwise so similar. The theories deal with the importance of individual political characters in the respective country, the specific time period in which the most radical changes occur, the cultural heritage of the country, or whether the method of choice is a politically tactical move.

Intimate partner violence (IPV) against women has been linked to long-term, negative health consequences such as depression, PTSD, and suicidal ideation. There is a growing perception that African American women are the most affected by IPV, but the current literature does not confirm this perception. The purpose of this nonexperimental, correlational study was to examine the predictive relationships between the independent variables (spiritual coping, religious coping, and levels of IPV) and the dependent variable (level of depression). The ecological systems theory provided the framework for the study. The research question addressed how well variables such as religious coping, spiritual coping, and level of IPV predicted levels of depression in African American women. Convenience sampling was used to recruit 63 participants. Data were collected using a survey methodology. Multiple linear regression was used to analyze the data. Results indicated a statistically significant negative correlation between spiritual coping and depression, as well as a statistically significant positive correlation between IPV scores and level of depression. No statistically relationship was found between religious coping and depression. Human services and other professionals could use the results to advocate for the development of educational and counseling programs that inform African American women of the benefits of culturally based coping strategies such as spiritual coping. Findings from the study could contribute to social change by adding information to the literature on coping strategies that can potentially improve negative outcomes such as levels of depression for female survivors of IPV, particularly African American Women.

To date, power exertion strategies in intimate relationships have been studied primarily using R-methodology techniques (e.g., Falbo, 1977; Fablo and Peplau, 1980). These studies have most often produced a two-dimensional model of power exertion strategies. The model used by Falbo and Peplau (1980) is composed of two bidirectional dimensions consisting of a laterality dimension (bilateral to unilateral) and a directness dimension (direct to indirect). The aim of the present study was to determine whether using an alternative methodology developed to measure operant subjectivity, namely Q-methodology, would provide similar results to those found using R-methodology. Nonviolent, heterosexual couples who had been married or living together for at least six months were recruited for the present study. Fifty-four participants (27 couples) completed three computerized Q-sorts based on the perceived usage of 60 power-exertion strategies from the self, partner and ideal-perspectives. In addition, couple members completed self-reports designed to measure intimacy (Miller Social Intimacy Scale - Miller and Lefcourt, 1982), relationship adjustment (Dyadic Adjustment Scale - Short Form - Spanier, 1976 and Hunsley, Pinsent, Lefebvre, James-Tanner, and Vito, 1995), impression management (Balanced Inventory of Desirable Responding Impression Management Subscale - Paulhaus, 1991), psychological reactance (Hong's Psychological Reactance Scale - Hong and Page, 1989), dominance (General Population Dominance Scale - Roy, 1981), machiavellianism (MACH IV - Christie and Geis, 1970), sex-role egalitarianism (Sex-role Egalitarianism Scale - Short Form - King and King, 1994), and perspective-taking (Self-dyadic Perspective Taking Scale and Other-dyadic Perspective Taking Scale - Long and Andrews, 1990). Frameworks derived from the Q-sort data indicate that participants actively use the dimensions of laterality and directness to describe their own and their partners' use of power exertion strategies in their intimate relationships. When asked to describe the "ideal partner", participants used only the dimension of laterality. Overall, participants reported using significantly more bilateral and direct strategies in comparison to unilateral and indirect strategies. When describing their own power exertion strategies, women and those with lower levels of psychological reactance were more likely to exclusively use the bilateral/lateral dimension. In comparison, men and those individuals with higher levels of psychological reactance were more likely to exclusively use the directness dimension. When describing their partners' use of power exertion strategies, those individuals using primarily the bilateral/unilateral dimension were more likely to have higher levels of social desirability, higher levels of perspective-taking, lower levels of psychological reactance, and lower levels of machiavellianism, in comparison to those individuals who primarily used the direct/indirect dimension.

This master thesis is in its five chapters dealing with the issue of cross-border mergers and acquisitions, taking as its main objective to describe a process of acquiring one company by another - from the perspective of a foreign acquirer - with an emphasis on identifying key attributes of his decision and the main criteria for selecting the final acquisition target. The first chapter sets theoretical basis for the work and provides definition, classification and characterization of motives for the implementation of mergers and acquisitions. The second part enriches the thesis with the historical and current development of international acquisition activity. The third chapter chooses a strategic approach to M&A. The fourth part explaines the process side of these transactions. The final, fifth chapter follows up on the development in the CEE region and highlights the Czech Republic as a traditional acquisition target for foreign investors, assessing of areas that increase or decrease its attractiveness at once.

ENGLISH ABSTRACT: South African organisations, just as in other countries, are fighting to gain a competitive advantage over their competitors. In this struggle, human resources have become the focus point of debate and intervention in organisations. The task-related competencies of employees have suddenly become central with regard to the performance of organisations. This new-found importance with which human resources have been labeled, also has a spill-over effect on the importance of the human resources function in organisations, especially the manager and leader thereof. The aim of this study is to shed light on the strategic partnership role that senior human resource managers currently play in South African organisations. Furthermore, a theoretical framework through which the concept of strategic partnership can be understood and explored, is introduced. The data was collected by utilising a survey and consisted of adapted versions of the Human Resources Role-assessment Survey (strategic partner), the Human Resources Competencies Scale as well as scales that measured the dimensions of strategic role motivation and strategic role opportunity. The results of this study showed that on average, the senior human resource (HR) managers in South Africa rated themselves significantly higher on the strategic partnership dimension than senior line managers rated them. Additionally, it seems that senior HR managers reported higher levels of professional competencies than of business-related competencies. A significant positive relationship exists between professional competencies and business-related competencies. There seems to be a significant positive relationship between strategic partnership and strategic role motivation as well as strategic partnership and strategic role opportunities within South African organisations. Conclusions are drawn from the results and recommendations are made for future research.

Die doel met hierdie studie is om die strategiese vennootskapsrol van menslike hulpbronbestuurders in Suid-Afrikaanse organisasies op te klaar. Verder word 'n teoretiese modelook ontwikkel waarmee die konsep van strategiese vennootskap beter verstaan en verder verken kan word. Die data is ingesamel deur gebruik te maak van 'n opname wat die vorm van 'n vraelys aangeneem het. Hierdie vraelys het bestaan uit aangepaste weergawes van die Menslike Hulpbron Rol-assesseringsopname (strategiese vennootskap), die Menslike Hulpbron Bevoegdheidskaal, sowel as vrae oor die dimensies van strategiese rolmotivering en strategiese rolgeleenthede. Die resultate van hierdie studie toon dat senior menslike hulpbronbestuurders in Suid-Afrikaanse organisasies hulself gemiddeld beduidend hoër tellings toeken op die dimensie van strategiese vennootskap as senior lynbestuurders. Dit blyk dat senior menslike hulpbronbestuurders ook oor hoër vlakke van professionele bevoegdhede as besigheidsverwante bevoegdhede beskik. Daar bestaan In beduidende positiewe verband tussen professionele bevoegdhede en besigheidsverwante bevoegdhede. Daar blyk ook In beduidend positiewe verband tussen strategiese vennootskap en strategiese rolmotivering, sowel as strategiese vennootskap en strategiese rolgeleenthede in organisasies te wees. Op grond van hierdie resultate is daar bepaalde gevolgtrekkings gemaak asook aanbevelings vir verdere navorsing.

Abstract:
The dynamic and global economy presents organisations with opportunities to prosper, however, the market has increasingly become more competitive. The challenge for organisations is to remain competitive sustainably manner while delivering value to shareholders and stakeholders. Supply chain function plays a vital role in ensuring that an entity stays competitive and what has become prevalent is for entities to enter into strategic supply chain collaborations to maximise on synergies and expertise to increase competitiveness of both partner organisations. Although many collaborations are formed on a mutual basis, not many have succeeded, and organisational culture has been pointed out as one of the leading actors contributing to the failure of such strategic partnerships. A quantitative and explanatory research was conducted with an objective of identifying and isolating the subsets of organisational culture, which influences the outcome of supply chain collaborations. It was found that the adhocracy culture, based on the competing values framework (CVF), is more influential towards a successful outcome of the collaboration. Furthermore, the chances of supply chain collaboration success increase with the more experienced participants being part of the collaboration to provide a leadership role for aligning expectations, roles and responsibilities; and thus, reducing conflict among collaboration partners.

Background: The Kenyan financial sector has recently been growing at high rate due to the inclusion of individuals who previously were unable access banking services. This has led to a competitive situation where banks and micro finance institutions are searching for ways to manage in this competitive sector. In addition, mobile phone companies are now considered as a competitive threat. Aim: This study will look into how strategic alliances between banks and mobile phone companies can be used to overcome these challenges with a specific focus on the recent alliance between Equity Bank (Kenya), and Safaricom Ltd. The study will also focus on the management of strategic alliances within different industries. Method: The analysis of this study is based on qualitative research including the use of interviews with members of both organizations and secondary data which includes written documentation and analysis of previously recorded discussions about the alliance with different members of both organizations. Results: The authors found strategic alliances can be used as a tool which enables firms to overcome threats from their competitors while gaining additional benefits. In terms of alliance management, the use of separate teams was found to be an effective management tool in cross industry alliances.

The purpose of this study is to highlight the existence ofpersonalization within Swedish political parties along withhow the parties work with this phenomena in order to achievemore voters. The method used is personal interviews with politiciansfrom four different government parties. As a complement, interviews with a political expert was also made.  All parties use personalization in different ways as a strategy tocreate dialogues and relationships with both media and voters. We distinguished two sorts of personalization: individualization and privatization, and discovered that not all parties use both.

Abstract:
Aim – The aim of this study is to explore how Management accountants (MAs) participate in strategic management processes nowadays and to explain reasons for potential differences in involvement of MAs in strategic management processes between different organizations.Method - The study is based on a multi-case study approach conducted among three independent companies in Sweden. The information from semi-structural interviews with MAs and archival data in form of job announcements for Senior MAs positions is used to analyze and cross-check the relationship. The time-horizon is cross-sectional.Findings - The study shows that involvement of MAs in strategic management processes varies a lot within organizations being influenced by the following factors: personal traits, business knowledge, relationship with management and established role. Some major variations on cross-company level are identified between subsidiary and HQ, and between representatives of different capital ownership forms.Conclusions - The study suggests that power imbalance in organizations hinders applying critical thinking and expressing objective opinion by MAs, that makes it difficult to claim a fully explicit business-partner role. Process of MAs’ involvement in the strategic management decision making presents a product of interrelation between two strategies for legitimizing of truth claims proposed by Heizmann and Olsson (2015): executing power of authority and executing power of expertise.
