Abstract:
Eutrophication of environmental waters is a complex process characterised by nutrient enrichment leading to increased production of algae and higher plants. This can result in undesirable effects on the quality, biodiversity and sustainable uses of our waters, in conflict with the objectives of the Agency's Environmental Strategy. Assessment and control of eutrophication in the UK have proceeded in a somewhat piecemeal fashion to date, focusing mainly on certain localised problems, or on the implementation of EC Directives, notably those relating to the control of urban waste water and agricul

AbstractIntranets became the central platform for internal corporate communication, business processes and information technology in the last decade. This huge application scope leads to severe project traps: How can a corporate-wide, interdisciplinary intranet strategy be developed, established and maintained? This article shows the challenges and potential problems for the development of an intranet strategy. It introduces a building block model for intranet strategy. The model includes strategic dimensions as well as cultural aspects and project scope.

Abstract:
Despite their inherent complexity, social entrepreneurs seek to create social innovation to stem society's wicked problems. To do so requires a balanced consideration of varying social expectations, all while trying to lead a sustainable enterprise. Educators look to equip the social entrepreneur with the right skills and mindset; with program failure, sadly, more common than not. This chapter seeks to explore the commonalities of such failures, highlighting the importance of behavioral development and facilitating an effective learning environment. Following an investigation into the notion of social entrepreneurship, authentic leadership is identified as a response some of the shortcomings of contemporary entrepreneurship education. The incorporation of authentic leader behaviors in entrepreneurial education can offer an injection as the social entrepreneur seeks to address the various challenges of social enterprise.

Abstract:
The emergence of the internet has signaled the coming of a new era in the history of cultural transmission. Indeed, a baffling array of industries have adopted and implemented internet technologies in tandem with its prototypical subsets, especially in developed countries. Whilst there has been some surge in the adoption and implementation of internet businesses in developing countries, it appears that these countries are still lagging behind in the delivery of technologically-induced customer services. Despite the bifurcation between the level of internet adoption and implementation, most extant literature related to understanding the dynamics of customer services in technologically induced environments is dominated by scholars and practitioners in developed countries. This dominance has not only provided a truncated view of prevailing trends, but has obscured unique evolving business models from sub-Saharan countries. Drawing on an interpretivist ethnographic methodological approach emerging through an interest in the origins of culture and civilisation, primarily through analysis of (primitive) societies, this chapter provides a background on the sub-Saharan perspective on general technologically induced environments, which is necessary to formulate the basis for a contemporary sub-Saharan e-business model. The aim is to look afresh at problems faced by the banking sector in the delivery of services to customers, and to demonstrate how these users might brace themselves generatively to meet the challenges it poses.

Abstract:
This chapter begins by looking at the changing nature of business strategy as flexible strategies become more important in a changing business environment. It then reviews the phenomenon of strategic information systems that support such flexible strategies, and discusses the problems of developing such systems using existing systems development techniques. Some methods and techniques are described that have recently been put forward as possible solutions to these problems, but the main contention of the chapter is that long-standing frameworks, methods and techniques may offer a solution when used in combination. A range of candidate techniques from the business and IT domains is evaluated using a panel of domain experts, and a three-stage method is suggested that uses the chosen techniques in combination. These techniques are well established and in most cases have been used and proven in other contexts for more than a decade, but their application to the development of flexible strategic information systems is new.

Abstract:
Due to the growing variety and quantity of information available on the Web, there is urgent need for developing Web-based applications capable of adapting their services to the needs of the users. This is the main rationale behind the flourishing area of Web personalization that finds in soft computing (SC) techniques a valid tool to handle uncertainty in Web usage data and develop Web-based applications tailored to user preferences. The main reason for this success seems to be the synergy resulting from SC paradigms, such as fuzzy logic, neural networks, and genetic algorithms. Each of these computing paradigms provides complementary reasoning and searching methods that allow the use of domain knowledge and empirical data to solve complex problems. In this chapter, we emphasize the suitability of hybrid schemes combining different SC techniques for the development of effective Web personalization systems. In particular, we present a neuro-fuzzy approach for Web personalization that combines techniques from the fuzzy and the neural paradigms to derive knowledge from Web usage data and represent the knowledge in the comprehensible form of fuzzy rules. The derived knowledge is ultimately used to dynamically suggest interesting links to the user of a Web site.

Abstract:
The aim of this study was to explore the development of pre-service primary school teachers' STEM skills with Raspberry Pi activities. Data were collected from 16 pre-service teachers through semi-constructed interviews, reports, and a questionnaire. The results of the qualitative analysis showed that the participants developed the STEM skills mentioned in the literature such as confidence, computing, problem-solving, creativity, technological skills, and enhanced the learning potential of robotics. Moreover, the ready-to-use Python codes on Raspberry Pi platform could be an effective strategy for pre-service teachers with lack of programming to provide solutions on real-world problems. In addition, the participants successfully connected the Raspberry Pi, sensor kits, and Python scripts with real-world problems. This equipment motivated them to transpose a real-world problem to school knowledge. According to the results the combination of Raspberry Pi, sensors, and Python helped the participants upskill in computing.

Unfortunately, the standard implicit solvers need more computational time to solve larger size of algebraic set of equations which normally arise if fine grid distributions are used. Tank fires pose a significant hazard to people, buildings, process piping, the environment and other facilities as a result of thermal radiation exposure. It is necessary and meaningful to study the distribution of the thermal radiation of a tank fire for emergency re

Abstract:
In robust design of complex systems, metamodeling techniques are commonly used to replace expensive computer simulations. To improve the sampling efficiency, efforts have been made towards developing objective-oriented sequential sampling methods for deterministic problems. In this paper, an extended objective-oriented sequential sampling method is proposed for robust design, with an emphasis on those problems with uncertainty in design variables. The method involves quantitative assessment of the effects of metamodeling uncertainty on the robust responses, as well as a sequential strategy of

Abstract:
Abstract Gas hydrate formation in natural gas systems and subsea infrastructure can block pipelines and instruments, restrict flow, and lead to safety and environmental hazards in production and/or transportation systems. These problems can lead to substantial economic and HSE risks. Therefore, understanding how, when and where hydrate formation occurs are important factors in developing the hydrate management strategies. This paper addresses the hydrate management strategy in one of the subsea developments in the Gulf of Mexico (GOM). The effects of salinity, water cut, and amount of methanol

This paper presents our continued research efforts towards developing a decomposition-based solution approach for rapid computational redesign to support agile manufacturing of evolutionary products. By analogy to the practices used for physical machines, the proposed approach involves two general steps: diagnosis and repair. This paper focuses on the diagnosis step. for which a two-phase decomposition method is developed. The first phase, called design dependency analysis, systematizes and reorganizes the intrinsic coupling structure of the existing design model by analyzing and reordering th
