Abstract:
Administrative-legal aspects of changes of repeated street names in Wrocław after the Second World WarThe author of the article discusses the problem of changes in streets names in Wrocław introduced as aresult of the territorial growth of the city after the Second World War. On each occasion the expansion of the territory of the city following the incorporation of successive neighbourhoods brought with it the need to solve the problem of two, often three or even four streets or squares with the same name in the city. The author has established the legitimacy and the legal basis of the changes. She presents the names themselves in an analytical manner, verifying each changed street name in terms of its linguistic or substantive correctness. In addition, she discusses the legislative path and the legal procedure applied in the introduction of the changes. She also points to the placement of names in the historical and political context, examines their social background and attempts to assess the validity of this type of changes, comparing them with solutions adopted in other countries of Europe.Verwaltungsrechtliche Aspekte der Änderungen der sich wiederholenden Straßennamen in Breslau nach dem Zweiten WeltkriegIn diesem Artikel wurde die Problematik der Änderungen der Straßennamen in Breslau, die wegen der territorialen Entwicklung der Stadt nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg durchgeführt wurden, besprochen. Es wurde festgestellt, dass die sukzessive Erweiterung des Stadtbereiches infolge der Angliederung weiterer Siedlungen immer wieder die Notwendigkeit hervorrief, mit den zweifach, mehrmals dreifach und vierfach auftretenden gleichen Bezeichnung von Straßen oder Plätzen zurechtzukommen. Es wurden die Legitimation und die rechtlichen Grundlagen der durchgeführten Änderungen festgestellt. Die Namensgebung wurde analytisch vorgestellt, jeder geänderte Straßenname wurde hinsichtlich seiner sprachlichen und sachlichen Richtigkeit verifiziert. Besprochen wurde auch das Gesetzgebungsverfahren und die gesetzgebende Technik der durchgeführten Änderungen. Schließlich wurde der historische, politische und soziale Hintergrund der Änderungen gezeigt sowie die Grundsätzlichkeit derartiger Änderungen bewertet, die in anderen Ländern Europas vorgenommenen Lösungen danebenhaltend.

Die Belege werden in verschiedene Gruppen eingeteilt, die unterschiedliche Funktionen besitzen: Hodonyme mit einer eine Richtung zeigenden Funktion, Hodonyme mit einer Lokalisationsfunktion, possessive Straßennamen, Straßennamen mit charakterisierender Funktion, Erinnerungsfunktion der Hodonyme. Außerdem wird die Aufmerksamkeit des Lesers auf das Phänomen der thematischen Straßennamenfelder gerichtet. On the trends in the motivation of the modern-day urbanonyms in the town Busko-ZdrójThe article presents the results of an analysis of the trends in the names of streets, roundabouts, squares and housing estates. The examples are sorted according to the function of the name: hodonyms which show a direction, hodonyms with the localization function, possessive hodonyms, hodonyms with a descriptive function, the names of streets commemorating important people or events. Moreover, the reader’s attention will be drawn to the phenomenon of the thematic fields of street names.

Abstract:
This text contains a comparative evaluation of street names of the urban periphery. Starting with Erfurt, street names of other Thuringian and German cities of the late Middle Ages and the early modern period are examined. In doing so, different groups of people are contemplated, such as prostitutes, barber surgeons and knackers, whose appellatives finally found their way into street names. The focus is on accumulations of such names in certain areas of a city; differences between large and small cities are illustrated as well. In the end, the conclusion highlights the hitherto underutilised significance of these street names.

Abstract:
This article draws attention to the corpus of digitally stored street names. While it has become common practice to use a suitable telephone CD-ROM for the cartographic presentation and linguistic interpretation of family names, street names, in this respect, have been overlooked so far. Applying his own software the author presents 14 maps of different character to set an example for various possibilities of including street names into onomastic research. First and foremost, this particular class of names is suited to get a rough overview of historical, historico-cultural, lexical, phonological, structural and social or sociological facts. In some special cases, maps showing the distribution of street names can provide information that is not available in a different way. At any rate, the selection of street names to be processed for cartographic presentation and the maps themselves require careful interpretation.

Abstract:
The street names of Bayreuth from the Middle Ages to present days are examined in the context of cultural history. Medieval street names reflect the mentality of the time, the way people viewed the reality of their town. In contrast to modern times, street names were always related to a distinctive feature that proved to be relevant to the people in everyday communication. Street names were not officially given, they were rather „found out', i.e. they emerged from a collective agreement among the users as to what was important for orientation, traffic or trade (Haupt Gaße 'Main Street', Marktgasse 'Market Street', Praytte gaß 'Broad Street', Ochsengasse, after a house owner). A new paradigm that has remained dominant until nowadays appears in the l8th century. Street names are no langer the result of collective perception. They are given by national or local authorities in order to honour distinguished persons (kings and princes, politicians, generals, poets, artists, composers, benefactors) or to remind people of relevant facts (e.g. military victories). Street names, also supported by their fixation in street signs, acquire a new dimension. They are intended to reinforce cultural memory as well as political propaganda. As a reaction to the strong ideologization during the Nazi regime, the street names given in Bayreuth after World War II show, in general, an unpolitical tendency. Numerous street names referring to Richard Wagner, his family and his works clearly reveal the significance of the famous composer for Bayreuth's cultural identity.

Abstract:
Although the handbooks unanimously maintain that -gasse was the second element in compound medieval streetnames in the High German area of Southern and Central Germany, whereas -strate was the predominant second element in streetnames in the Low German area of Northern Germany, a closer look at Regensburg and Vienna documents surprisingly reveals that at least in these important South German cities -straße and not -gasse was the generic in the earliest German streetnames. It was only from the late 15th century onwards that -gasse began to replace -straße in Regensburg and Vienna. Later, in the 19th century, the word Gasse was connected with the idea of a narrow, unimportant street and therefore -gasse again made way for -straße, at least in Regensburg. An overview over the German-speaking area shows that in medieval documents -straße predominated along the river Danube, whereas in South-Western Germany and Switzerland as well as in Central Germany -gasse was favoured. The early appearance of -straße in Cologne and Leipzig is seen as the result of an influence of the more prestigious Low German -strate area.

Abstract:
Jag har i denna uppsats valt ut ett område i Dresdens absoluta centrum och undersökt gatunamn ur ett morfologiskt och etymologiskt perspektiv. När det gäller det morfologiska har jag analyserat de ingående suffixen och fogeelementen (-er,      -itz, -ner, -en- och -s-). Det etymologiska har utgått från olika namngivningsprinciper för gatunamnen: efter personer, utseende, yrken och färger. Namn efter läge och funktion har fått utgå, då de inte rymts inom ramen för denna undersökning. Det har gjort att jag kunnat granska totalt 60 av de 98 ingående gatorna i centrumområdet i Dresden. Jag har dels använt mig av Google kartor och dels några viktigare böcker (Das Namenbuch der Straßen und Plätze im 26er Ring Dresden, Wortbildung der deutschen Gegenwartssprache och Wortbildung des modernen Deutschen - Ein Lehr- und Übungsbuch). Mina resultat i denna uppsats är att de gator som heter något med gränder är de äldsta, att August den Starkes familj fick ett stort antal gator uppkallade efter sig, och att det blev mode att uppkalla gator efter manliga borgerliga personer, att kvinnor fick gator uppkallade efter sig först i början av 1900-talet. Vidare resultat är att namn med fogeelement blev ovanliga under andra delen av 1700-talet, att det finns få slaviska influenser på gatunamnen i Dresden, att alla nazistiska namn ändrades efter andra världskriget, att alla kommunistiska namn ändrades i Dresden efter 1989, men inte nödvändigtvis i andra delar av Tyskland, till exempel Berlin och Leipzig.
