Abstract:
The dynamics of the photoelectric effect in solid-state systems can be investigated via attosecond-time-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy. This article provides a comparison of delay information accessible by the two most important techniques, attosecond streaking spectroscopy and reconstruction of attosecond beating by interference of two-photon transitions (RABBITT) at solid surfaces, respectively. The analysis is based on simulated time-resolved photoemission spectra obtained by solving the time-dependent Schrödinger equation in a single-active-electron approximation. We show a continuous

Thin layer chromatography (TLC) of various dyes is compared in microchannels packed with either bare zirconia (normal phase) or polybutadiene (PBD) modified zirconia (reversed phase). In situ micro-diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (μDRIFTS) of the analyte spots is possible due to the low absorption background of both plain and PBD zirconia. An instrument coupling μDRIFTS with a motorized stage that could profile the microchannel TLC plate is developed. Abstract:
Ultrashort optical pulses can trigger a variety of non-equilibrium processes in magnetic thin films affecting electrons and spins on femtosecond timescales. In order to probe the charge and magnetic degrees of freedom simultaneously, we developed an X-ray streaking technique that has the advantage of providing a jitter-free picture of absorption cross-section changes. In this paper, we present an experiment based on this approach, which we performed using five photon probing energies at the Ni M2,3-edges. This allowed us to retrieve the absorption and magnetic circular dichroism time traces, y

We describe the synthesis and characterization of srilankite (Ti2ZrO6) nanowires. The nanowires are produced via hydrothermal synthesis with a TiO2/ZrO2 mixture under alkaline conditions. The zirconium titanate nanowires have median diameters of 60 nm and median lengths of 800 nm with the 〈022〉 axis along the length of the nanowire. Electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction, and electron diffraction are used to characterize the phases and compare nanowires produced with varying molar ratios of Ti and Zr. The aim of this paper is to show, by systematic studies, the influence of γ-Fe2O3 nanoparticles on the physical parameters of the liquid crystalline matrix, exhibiting a ferroelectric phase in a wide temperature range. The detailed research was carried out by using diffraction (PXRD), microscopic (OM, SEM, FCPM, POM), thermal (DSC), optical (TLI), electric and spectroscopic (FTIR) methods. We show that even the smallest concentration of γ-Fe2O3 nanoparticles largely modifies the parameters of the ferroelectric SmC* phase, such as spontaneous polarization, switching time, tilt angle, rotational

AbstractExtended spectroscopic monitoring programs with high resolution and coverage in wavelength and time have revealed a new picture of the winds and the circumstellar environments of late B- and early A-type supergiants. Dramatic line-profile variations (LPV) of the wind-sensitive Hα line with characteristic cyclical V/R variations indicate the presence of deviations of the envelopes from spherical symmetry. Time-series analysis of these LPVs suggest that the wind variations are caused by rotating surface structures which modulate the lower wind region. Occasionally observed high-velocity

Abstract:
The silicon carbide layers in experimental TRISO coated particles with zirconia kernels were evaluated for their phase composition, their impurity levels and the crystal perfection and twinning of the crystallites in the layers. This evaluation was necessary to compare the different SiC layers and to relate these properties to various quality tests and ultimately to manufacturing parameters in the CVD coater. Identification of the various polytypes was done using electron diffraction methods. This is the only method for the unequivocal identification of the different polytypes. The 3C, and 6H
