This thesis explores the feasibility of creating a street-level air quality map, whereby cyclists gather data through a participatory sensing process as they ride around the city. I explore two primary areas required for the successful creation of such an initiative: the state of the technology for portable air quality monitors, and the likelihood of cyclist participation in gathering data. To test the technology, I conduct experiments in Singapore and Mexico City to determine whether a small, relatively inexpensive monitor can gauge variation in concentrations according to distance from traffic and route choice. I then survey cyclists in Singapore and Mexico, assessing level of interest in participating to gather air quality data, conceptions about local air quality, travel behavior, pollution health symptoms, and acceptable price point for a personal air quality monitor. If such a project were implemented, the data could serve planners and policy-makers in several fields, including transportation, public space, and public health. They could also be used as a powerful advocacy tool, as groups campaign for better cycling infrastructure and healthier cities. Citizens could use this air quality information to minimize their exposure when choosing their travel routes.

This dissertation project aims to deal with all these problems by proposing a platform to support people with reduced mobility. There are systems that deal with the problem of urban accessibility through sets of data provided by certified authorities. Such systems have the limit of not being updated in real time and do not extend the possibility of adding information to all participants. From this comes the idea of creating a new application. The application purpose is to collect information on urban accessibility from all users and guarantee, by applying the concept of crowd-sensing, a high level of data trustworthiness. To be effective in its goal, the application must be easy to use and accessible to everyone at anytime and anywhere. For this reason, the software will be developed around two must-haves that form the main basis for today's communication: Internet and smartphones.

Abstract:
The purpose of the present study is to analyze the data quality of OpenStreetMap geodatabase in a GIS environment; the case of study is a region of Sri Lanka. OpenStreetMap (OSM) is one of the most well-known crowd-sourced products, providing a global map base thanks to the mapping activity carried out by volunteers all around the world. As the quality of collected information remains a significant concern for the geospatial information community and in geospatial data management, a qualitative and quantitative assessment of OSM data is of great importance, due to the large diffusion and adoption of this kind of volunteered geospatial information (VGI). This study concerns the OSM dataset currently available for the Mawanella area in Sri Lanka and has been performed in an open-source Geographic Information System (GIS) environment, QGIS. OSM vector files are the raw materials for the analysis. The evaluation has been realized considering the main quality attributes to be maintained in a mapping product, either based on intrinsic properties and on the relationship with official databases available for the same area. The results of the study suggest that the current quality of OSM maps in the study area is fairly good, but completeness is poor and must be improved.

Abstract:
This master’s thesis describes a sensorial subsystem of a mobile robot. The thesis mentions the structure and a basis of the satellite navigation. There are also described each systems and visualization techniques as e. g. WGS 84, including also other systems for specification of more accurate position on the Earth (EGNOS, WAAS and others). This thesis describes closely also a differential GPS and the corrections. For the purposes of the thesis there has been assembled GPS software for a fundamental and a remote station. There have been chosen and used modules for receiving a GPS signal and wireless modules for their communication. There are also used outcomes from the project of the Open Street Map in the thesis. Results of this project are described in details, decoded, adjusted and converted into RNDF file. At the end of this thesis there has been composed a function of the program for portable camera which works on principle time of flight. This portable camera is dedicated to look for immediate barrier and also for 3D space view in front of the robot. This thesis also including the process how the power source has been built up for this portable scanner.

Abstract:
In this work we present algorithms that are capable of calculating paths to destination for electric vehicles. These paths can be based on the simple metrics such as the distance, time or the paths can be based on more advanced metric such as the minimum energy demanding metric. This metric is parameterizable by the physical construction of the electrical vehicle. We also propose a new algorithm that computes energy optimal paths that are more acceptable by the driver, because it also takes into consideration the time metric while computing the path.

Abstract:
The aim of this study was to examine the view that officials involved in youth unemployment have on the significance of collaboration between organizations working with unemployed youth. The study was based on nine qualitative interviews with officials from PES offices and from municipalities such as job coaches. The results were analyzed based on qualitative content analysis. The analysis led to two different themes: conditions and the individual. In the analysis two different theories were used, new institutionalism and Lipsky's theory about street-level bureaucrats. The analysis led us to the conclusion that these officials find collaboration important both for their work and for the unemployed youth and that they collaborate with the individual’s interests in mind.

In today's competitive world, companies focus on eliminating wastes to increase their profit, growth and ensure customer satisfaction. Among the known wastes, environmental wastes are typically the least considered. Organizations must comply with federal rules and regulations towards environmental friendly manufacturing. Lean Manufacturing provides opportunities for improving the environmental performance along a production line. This thesis discusses previous work performed in analyzing environmental impacts and wastes. Based on this previous work, a method is developed to assess and document the impact of environmental factors in a production line using a value stream map. This new approach to calculate the environmental factors of a manufacturing/assembly line and to incorporate the environmental factors in a value stream map is explained in detail with case studies. The result of the case studies as tested in a production line is discussed and concludes with significant opportunities for improvement if implemented in a large scale.

Abstract:
This report is the result of a thesis work carried out on the Risifrutti production at the company Procordia Food AB. The thesis is at a master level and is the final work for the author to receive a Master of Science in Innovative production at Mälardalen University. The thesis comprises 30 credits and has lasted for 18 weeks. The thesis is mainly a research on whether it is possible to perform an Environmental Value Stream Map (E-VSM) in a food processing industry and an evaluation if the tools E-VSM and Green Performance Map (GPM) are useful in this type of industry. An extra part to this research is to use the results from the E-VSM and give Procordia Food AB information on improvement potentials in the Risifrutti production. The author has found it difficult to collect some of the quantitative data to the E-VSM, mainly regarding energy, but by using the Value Stream Mapping (VSM) tool and other Lean tools the author was able to identify and quantify several wastes in the Risifrutti production. Recommendations for improvements based on these wastes have been given to the company. In the research part of this report the utility of the Value Stream Map, Environmental Value Stream Map and Green Performance Map in a food processing industry have been analyzed. The author has found that the Value Stream Map has been a useful tool since waste and unevenness in the tact of the production has been identified. The Environmental Value Stream Map and the Green Performance Map are also great tools when a company wants to analyze their environmental impact and then invest in environmental improvements. However, no profound energy analyzes has been done in the Risifrutti production because of the lack of energy meters for steam, electricity and compressed air in the production lines.
Denna rapport är resultatet av ett examensarbete utfört på Risifruttiproduktionen hos företaget Procordia Food AB. Examensarbetet är på D-nivå och är det slutgiltiga arbetet för att författaren ska få en Civilingenjörsexamen inom Innovativ produktion vid Mälardalens Högskola. Examensarbetet omfattar 30 högskolepoäng och har pågått i 18 veckor.   Examensarbetet är i huvudsak en forskning av huruvida det är möjligt att utföra en Miljövärdeflödesanalys på en livsmedelsprocessindustri samt en utvärdering av om Miljövärdeflödesanalys och Green Performance Map verktygen är användbara i denna typ av industri. En bidel till denna forskning är att med hjälp av resultaten från Miljövärdeflödesanalysen ge Procordia Food AB information om vad som bör förbättras i Risifruttiproduktionen.   Författaren har haft det svårt att samla in vissa kvantitativa data till Miljövärdeflödesanalysen, främst beträffande energiåtgång i delprocesserna, men har ändå med hjälp av en Värdeflödesanalys och andra Lean verktyg kunnat identifiera och kvantifiera flera slöserier i Risifruttiproduktionen. Rekommendationer till förbättringar baserade på dessa slöserier har givits till företaget.   I forskningsanalysen har verktygen Värdeflödesanalys, Miljövärdeflödesanalys samt Green Performance Map användbarhet i en livsmedelsprocessindustri analyserats. Författaren har funnit att Värdeflödesanalys är ett användbart verktyg då slöserier och ojämnheter i produktionstakt har kunnat identifieras. Miljövärdeflödesanalys och Green Performance Map verktygen är också bra verktyg när ett företag vill analysera sin miljöbelastning för att sedan investera i miljöförbättringar. Dock har inga djupare energianalyser kunnat göras i Risifruttiproduktionen eftersom energimätare för el, ånga och tryckluft saknades i produktionen.

O projeto desenvolvido tem como objetivo principal a melhoria da eficiência na prestação de serviços de reparação de chapa e pintura na Caetano Auto Colisão, através da aplicação de ferramentas associadas à filosofia Lean. Apesar das ferramentas e técnicas lean estarem bem exploradas nas empresas de produção e manufatura, o mesmo não se verifica em relação às empresas da área dos serviços. O Value Stream Mapping é uma ferramenta lean que consiste no mapeamento do fluxo de materiais e informação necessários para a realização das atividades (que acrescentam e não acrescentam valor), desempenhadas pelos colaboradores, fornecedores e distribuidores, desde a obtenção do pedido do cliente até à entrega final do serviço. Através desta ferramenta é possível identificar as atividades que não acrescentam valor para o processo e propor medidas de melhoria que resultem na eliminação ou redução das mesmas. Com base neste conceito, foi realizado o mapeamento do processo de prestação de serviços de chapa e pintura e identificados os focos de ineficiência. A partir desta análise foram sugeridas melhorias que têm como objetivo atingir o estado futuro proposto assim como tornar o processo mais eficiente. Duas destas melhorias passaram pela implementação dos 5S na sala das tintas e pela elaboração de um relatório A3 para o centro de lavagens. O projeto realizado permitiu o estudo de um problema real numa empresa de serviços, bem como a proposta de um conjunto de melhorias que a médio prazo se espera virem a contribuir para a melhoria da eficiência na prestação de serviços de chapa e pintura.
The scope of this project is to improve the efficiency in the body repair and painting services at Caetano Auto Colisão, by applying tools associated with the Lean philosophy. Although the lean tools and techniques are well explored in the production and manufacturing companies, the same is not true for companies in the services area. The Value Stream Mapping is a lean tool that consists of mapping the flow of materials and information needed to carry out the activities (both value added and non-value added activities), performed by employees, suppliers and distributors, from the customer's request to the final delivery service. With this tool we can identify the activities that don’t add value to the process and suggest improvement measures that result in their reduction or elimination. Based on this concept, the mapping of the process of body repair and painting services has been done and its inefficiencies focus identified. From this analysis, improvements were suggested which aim to achieve the proposed future state as well as make the process more efficient. Two of these improvements have gone through the implementation of 5S in the painting shop and for the preparation of an A3 report to improve the process of vehicles valet washing. This project allowed the study of a real problem in a service business, and the proposal of a set of improvements that in the medium term are expected to contribute to a refined efficiency in the body repair and painting process.

Abstract:
Då producerande företag ska göra genomgripande verksamhetsförändringar såsom implementera produktionssystemet lean, kan det vara svårt att på förhand veta förändringarnas effekter.  Lean innebär att ledtider kortas men nya arbetssätt och verktyg bidrar till att kostnaderna initialt ofta ökar i förändringsarbete, vilket kan utmynna i en skepticism mot det nya systemet hos de anställda. Med hjälp av verktyg som mäter effekterna av förändringarna skulle denna skepticism kunna mötas. För att erhålla ett helhetsperspektiv ses produktion helst ur ett flödesperspektiv och idag finns inget bra verktyg som analyserar produktionsflöden ur både ledtids- och kostnadsperspektiv. Därför syftar detta arbete till att ta fram en modell för beräkning av ledtider och kostnader i ett produktionsflöde på ett sätt som möjliggör förståelse från flera olika intressentgrupper. Detta uppnås dels genom att den som använder modellen (1) erhåller en övergripande förståelse för flödets uppbyggnad och allokalisering av dess ledtider och kostnader samt (2) kan använda modellen för att analysera olika framtida scenarier vilka ligger till grund för förändringsarbetet. Arbetet är skrivet på uppdrag av Volvo Lastvagnar i Umeå, VLU eftersom de implementerar Volvos version av lean och saknar denna typ av modell.   Modellen kallad Value Stream Map Cost Calculation-modellen, VSMCC-modellen är gjord ur ett flödesperspektiv vilket innebär att alla aktiviteter som behövs för att producera en artikel kartläggs så att en övergripande syn på flödet kan erhållas istället för att aktiviteterna analyseras och effektiviseras var för sig. Lean, flödesperspektivet och de kostnadsberäkningsmodeller som funnits i litteraturen har bidragit till utformandet av modellen. Dock består modellens innehåll till största del på VLU:s behov, det vill säga studiens syfte. Analyser har gjorts av 5 stycken detaljer på detaljavdelningen på VLU och modellen har byggts utifrån dessa. Modellen samt dess applicering på en av detaljerna kallad A-stolpe, utgör arbetets empiri och resultat. Efter en diskussion kan följande slutsatser dras:   Analysen av ett produktionsflöde visar en mer trovärdig och komplex bild av verkligheten om den både tar hänsyn till analys av ledtid och kostnader än om den bara innehåller ledtid. Flödesbaserade kostnadsberäkningar kan hjälpa Volvo och andra företag att sänka sina kostnader. Modellens funktioner gör att det är enkelt att analysera flödet, se var de ”lågt hängande frukterna” finns och därmed kunna prioritera förbättringsinsatserna. I och med att kostnaderna i modellen beräknas per artikel, utgör modellen ett utmärkt underlag för avvägning mellan batchstorlek och transportfrekvens.   Bland rekommendationerna som ges till användaren av modellen återfinns att välja ut och analysera huvudflöden hellre än mindre flöden, att förändringsgruppen är tvärfunktionell samt att man säkrar ordentligt mandat för förbättringsarbetet om det inte redan finns.

Malmö högskola: Hälsa och Samhälle, utbildningsområde socialt arbete, 2006. Bakgrund: Flertalet av de män som köper sexuella tjänster är gifta eller sammanboende och har barn. De flesta män som köper sex har en livssituation som skiljer sig betydande från de prostituerade kvinnornas bakgrund, inkomst och social status. Mannen som köper sexuella tjänster kommer från alla samhällsklasser och yrkeskategorier och representerar ett tvärsnitt av den manliga vuxna befolkningen. Köparnas motiv varierar men tycks röra sig om känslomässig flykt, avstressning och ansvarsfrihet.Syfte: Vi vill uppmärksamma komplexiteten i fråga om svenska heterosexuella mäns köp av sexuella tjänster och även undersöka varför den ensidiga bilden dominerar. Vi hoppas alltså kunna bidra till en slags avdemonisering av mannen som köper tjänsten – han kanske inte alls är perverterad utan en vanlig man. Metod: En semistrukturerad djupintervju med två socionomer samt litteraturstudier på utvald litteratur. Resultat och slutsats: Efter genomgång av intervjumaterialet och litteraturen kom vi fram till att männen som är köpare av sexuella tjänster inte bör betraktas som perverterade avvikare. Vi menar att dessa mäns handlingar bör förstås och behandlas utifrån en tanke om bakomliggande strukturella möjliggörare. Vi ser att fokus på genusperspektivet har stor betydelse i sammanhanget.

In today's highly competitive business environment every company is heading to increase its overall production and profit by decreasing its consumed manufacturing cost. Reduction in manufacturing cost can be effectively achieved by means of reducing the non-value added costs and activities involved in the production process. Breakdown maintenance effectiveness plays a vital role in machines availability for production. Assessing breakdown maintenance activities helps an organization to organize and effectively streamline the maintenance actions carried out in order to reduce the consumption of input resources. In this research work, a method is proposed for assessing the breakdown maintenance factors using a value stream maintenance map (VSMM) enabling the assessment of measurable maintenance factors. To attain the proposed method, initially, various breakdown maintenance factors are identified and grouped. Then a breakdown maintenance performance measures hierarchy and a framework are developed in this thesis. Next a method which incorporates the calculation of key breakdown maintenance metrics and a VSMM along with the key breakdown maintenance metrics and their respective trends is detailed. En el presente trabajo de investigación, se analiza la Supply Chain del proceso de reparación de componentes de una empresa de servicio especializada en el tren de fuerza de maquinaria pesada, con el propósito de mejorar su Lead Time, dado que el resultado actual, impacta negativamente en los plazos de entrega del servicio comprometido y consecuentemente la insatisfacción de los clientes. El indicador de lealtad de los clientes NLS (Net Loyalty Score), en continuo decremento, implica un riesgo para la sostenibilidad y el crecimiento de la empresa, por lo que había que tomar acciones. El estudio levanta información desde la recepción, hasta la salida de los motores y transmisiones; recoge data de los tiempos de entrega e información de Focus Group con el personal de taller; se utiliza herramientas Lean como el diagrama de Ishikawa y Pareto, los cuales permiten discriminar las causas principales. Asimismo, el Value Stream Map (VSM) del proceso actual, permitió identificar una oportunidad de mejora relevante para llevar el Lead Time de la reparación de motores de 37.5 a 30.5, colocando un Supermarket del componente crítico – Short Block (Kanban). Por otra parte, la implementación de ciertos activos de taller (SMED) ayudó a mejorar el Lead Time en el VSM futuro.
In this research work, the Supply Chain of the component repair process of a service company specialized in the power train of heavy machinery is analyzed, with the purpose of improving its Lead Time, given that the current result impacts negatively in terms of delivery of the committed service and consequently customer dissatisfaction. The continually decreasing NLS (Net Loyalty Score) customer loyalty indicator implies a risk to the sustainability and growth of the company, so actions had to be taken. The study gathers information from the reception to the exit of the engines and transmissions; collects data on the delivery times and information of Focus Group with the workshop staff; Lean tools such as the Ishikawa and Pareto diagram are used, which allow discriminating the main causes. Likewise, the Value Stream Map (VSM) of the current process, identified a relevant improvement opportunity to bring the Lead Time of engine repair from 37.5 to 30.5, placing a Supermarket of the critical component – Short Block (Kanban). On the other hand, the implementation of certain taller assets (SMED) helped improve Lead Time in the future VSM.

L’obiettivo della presente tesi di laurea è quello di applicare alcune delle tecniche della Lean Manufacturing presso lo stabilimento produttivo di Zhermack S.p.A. sito a Badia Polesine (Ro). Il progetto di tesi ha seguito lo sviluppo di una Value Stream Map per l’individuazione dei colli di bottiglia nel flusso produttivo di due tipologie di prodotto: siliconi ed alginati. In seguito, sono stati applicati i metodi di Visual Management, SMED, 5S e Yamazumi chart. Le attività svolte hanno seguito la filosofia giapponese del miglioramento continuo, kaizen, puntando alla riduzione delle principali cause di spreco. Durante questo studio si è presentata la possibilità di affrontare un argomento che è stato raramente esplorato dalla letteratura scientifica: un modello analitico e pratico per la creazione di un target per un KPI. Il KPI preso in considerazione è stato l’OEE, Overall Equipment Effectivness. Rilevanti sono stati i contributi nella riduzione delle perdite di produzione in termini di tempo e il miglioramento della qualità del lavoro degli operatori.

Increasing global competition, high stumpage and energy prices, and the slowing housing market have challenged the U.S. hardwood lumber industry during the past several years. Many wood product manufactures are trying to remain in business by implementing continuous improvement programs like lean manufacturing. However, the lumber drying process where lumber is kiln-dried in large batches, can significantly increase manufacturing and inventory lead-time; and is a process that tends to limit how lean the remaining process can become. Vacuum drying has the potential to reduce drying times, reduce batch sizes and achieve product quality comparable or superior to conventional drying. The overall goal of this research was to evaluate how vacuum-drying technology could support further lean implementation in manufacturing of hardwood products. Specifically, to estimate conventional and vacuum drying times, quality, and costs for drying 4/4 red oak lumber; to determine by the use of feasibility analysis (cash flow, net present value, and internal rate of return) differences between conventional and vacuum drying for 4/4 red oak lumber; and to determine if the high capital cost of vacuum drying equipment can be justified with the reduction of WIP and cycle time, while meeting desired throughput. The study includes a cost analysis of vacuum and conventional drying, and a determination of the potential financial gains associated with the reduced drying times via vacuum drying. It was determined that vacuum drying quality was equal or better than conventional drying with less checking, end splits, drying stress and shrinkage. Compared to conventional drying, vacuum drying times with air drying and without air drying were 67% less and 70% less, respectively. Conventional and vacuum with no air drying scenarios were determined to be financially feasible when compared using Net Present Value and Internal Rate of Return analysis. However, vacuum drying with no air drying had better NPV and IRR values than conventional drying. The scenario of vacuum with air drying was not feasible. Two case studies, each employing the three drying scenarios (conventional drying, vacuum with air drying, and vacuum without air drying), were used to determine the impact of cycle times and work in process. It was determined that the cycle times for vacuum drying were 87% and 95% less than conventional drying for the first case study and 51% and 90% less than conventional drying for the second. WIP was 48% and 84% less in the first case study and 43% and 92% less than conventional drying for the second. Cycle time was reduced by 87% and 51% for Plant C and D, respectively. Finally it was determined that the reduction of WIP represented a cost saving of 73% and 76% for the two case studies. The reduction in costs, faster drying rates, and equal quality, and reduced cycle times make vacuum drying a potential technology available for improvement of the competitiveness for flooring manufacturers.

The present dissertation deals with George Gissing?s novel New Grub Street, written in England in 1891. It is a novel about the hardships of the literary industry and how much writers are connected or disconnected with the economical culture they live in. The Victorian age was the age of transition, the age of Charles Darwin and Herbert Spencer and of the inevitable social changes which came with the innovations brought up by science, social studies and the revolutions that followed. Despite some initial reserve, Victorian people were eager for innovation, even though newness also caused uneasiness. The wish to understand the world that surrounded them, how they got there and what the future reserved formed the basis for modern studies which are relevant until today. The main focus of the text is how Gissing?s fictional characters deal with this world of changes, the competitive market, poverty and social alienation. Each of them reflects partly the author?s own professional and personal choices and opinions in many different shades that come from resignation to utter revolt against the modern pressure for fast, cheap and easy literature. It is puzzling though to notice how pessimistic and even aggressive Gissing is towards his profession inside his imaginative world.

Este artículo presenta una propuesta de aplicación de conceptos de manufactura esbelta a una línea de producción de costura de una típica empresa de confecciones de tejido de punto para exportación, con el objetivo de reducir lead time, demoras e inventario en proceso. Mediante la utilización de mapas de cadena de valor y el enfoque de los siete desperdicios, presenta y analiza la configuración actual de una línea típica de costura, identificando los desperdicios más importantes a lo largo del proceso. Como propuesta, plantea un Sistema de producción esbelta conformado por cinco elementos, orientados a reducir los principales factores de desperdicio del sistema convencional: a) reducción del tamaño de la línea; b) implementación de un sistema de producción unitaria; c) implementación de un sistema de ingreso controlado por la línea de costura (sistema de jalar); d) aplicación de incentivos grupales; y e) incremento en la frecuencia del despacho al proceso de acabado. Como resultado, el modelo propuesto logra reducir lead time, tiempo de ciclo, inventario en proceso y movimientos innecesarios.

O setor da construção civil é conhecido pela grande incidência de perdas em seus processos, o que tem levado ao crescente uso de práticas baseadas nos sistemas de produção enxuta. Este trabalho apresenta a avaliação da estabilidade e capacidade dos processos, bem como o uso de práticas enxutas em uma obra de pavimentação viária. Inicialmente, a avaliação da estabilidade e capacidade foi realizada por meio do mapeamento do fluxo de valor do estado atual e do desenvolvimento e coleta de indicadores associados aos 4M (Material, Mão-deobra, Máquina e Método). Os resultados indicaram que todos os cinco indicadores avaliados foram estáveis, porém apenas um indicador demonstrou capacidade de atender os parâmetros do cliente. Com base nessa avaliação, foram adotadas ações para redução de perdas e melhora da estabilidade e capacidade dos processos, por meio do uso de práticas enxutas, aplicadas em uma segunda obra com características similares à anterior. As práticas usadas foram: i) Mudança e melhoria de alguns processos construtivos; ii) implantação de ferramenta 5S no canteiro de obras; iii) criação e implantação de dispositivos poka-yokes, iv) aplicação de dispositivo visual de comunicação do tipo andon; v) planejamento de entrega de materiais just-in-time. Nessa segunda obra, os indicadores se mantiveram estáveis, mas foi percebida uma melhora quanto à capacidade destes indicadores em atender os parâmetros exigidos. Apenas o indicador de mão-de-obra turn over não foi capaz de atender a meta definida pela empresa.
The Building Sector is known for high incidence of wastes in its process. This characteristic has been motivating the operators to use some practices based on Lean Production Systems. This paper presents an evaluation of the stability and capacity of Lean Construction concepts in a road construction work. The evaluation of the stability and capacity was realized mapping the current state value stream and the collection of indicators associated with the 4M (Material Hand labor, Machine and Method) The results indicated that all seven indicators measured were stable, but only an indicator of the seven evaluated was considered capable. Based on this evaluation, actions were taken to improve the stability and capacity through the use of lean practices, applied in a second work with similar characteristics to the previous. The practices used were: i) improving / changing some construction processes, ii) 5S tool deployment on construction of works iii) creation and implementation of poka-yokes devices, iv) application of visual tool of andon type communication, v) delivery planning materials within the just-in-time concept. In this second work the indicators remained stable, but a great improvement was perceived, related to the ability of the indicators to meet the required parameters. Only the hand labor turnover indicator was not able to meet the target set by the company.

[ES] En la actualidad, uno de los principales desafíos a los que se enfrentan las grandes áreas metropolitanas es la congestión provocada por el tráfico, la cual se ha convertido en un problema importante al que se enfrentan las autoridades de cada ciudad. Para abordar este problema es necesario implementar una solución eficiente para controlar el tráfico que genere beneficios para los ciudadanos, como reducir los tiempos de viaje de los vehículos y, en consecuencia, el consumo de combustible, el ruido, y la contaminación ambiental. De hecho, al analizar adecuadamente la demanda de tráfico, es posible predecir las condiciones futuras del tráfico, y utilizar esa información para la optimización de las rutas tomadas por los vehículos. Este enfoque puede ser especialmente efectivo si se aplica en el contexto de los vehículos autónomos, que tienen un comportamiento más predecible, lo cual permite a los administradores de la ciudad mitigar los efectos de la congestión, como es la contaminación, al mejorar el flujo de tráfico de manera totalmente centralizada. La validación de este enfoque generalmente requiere el uso de simulaciones que deberían ser lo más realistas posible. Sin embargo, lograr altos grados de realismo puede ser complejo cuando los patrones de tráfico reales, definidos a través de una matriz de Origen/Destino (O-D) para los vehículos en una ciudad, son desconocidos, como ocurre la mayoría de las veces. Por lo tanto, la primera contribución de esta tesis es desarrollar una heurística iterativa para mejorar el modelado de la congestión de tráfico; a partir de las mediciones de bucle de inducción reales hechas por el Ayuntamiento de Valencia (España), pudimos generar una matriz O-D para la simulación de tráfico que se asemeja a la distribución de tráfico real. Si fuera posible caracterizar el estado del tráfico prediciendo las condiciones futuras del tráfico para optimizar la ruta de los vehículos automatizados, y si se pudieran tomar estas medidas para mitigar de manera preventiva los efectos de la congestión con sus problemas relacionados, se podría mejorar el flujo de tráfico en general. Por lo tanto, la segunda contribución de esta tesis es desarrollar una Ecuación de Predicción de Tráfico para caracterizar el comportamiento en las diferentes calles de la ciudad en términos de tiempo de viaje con respecto al volumen de tráfico, y aplicar una regresión logística a esos datos para predecir las condiciones futuras del tráfico. La tercera y última contribución de esta tesis apunta directamente al nuevo paradigma de gestión de tráfico previsto, tratándose de un servidor de rutas capaz de manejar todo el tráfico en una ciudad, y equilibrar los flujos de tráfico teniendo en cuenta las condiciones de congestión del tráfico presentes y futuras. Por lo tanto, realizamos un estudio de simulación con datos reales de congestión de tráfico en la ciudad de Valencia (España), para demostrar cómo se puede mejorar el flujo de tráfico en un día típico mediante la solución propuesta. Los resultados experimentales muestran que nuestra solución, combinada con una actualización frecuente de las condiciones del tráfico en el servidor de rutas, es capaz de lograr mejoras sustanciales en términos de velocidad promedio y tiempo de trayecto, ambos indicadores de un menor grado de congestión y de una mejor fluidez del tráfico.

Si fóra possible caracteritzar l'estat del trànsit predient les condicions futures del trànsit per a optimitzar la ruta dels vehicles automatitzats, i si es pogueren prendre aquestes mesures per a mitigar de manera preventiva els efectes de la congestió amb els seus problemes relacionats, es podria millorar el flux de trànsit en general. Per tant, la segona contribució d'aquesta tesi és desenvolupar una Equació de Predicció de Trànsit per a caracteritzar el comportament en els diferents carrers de la ciutat en termes de temps de viatge respecte al volum de trànsit, i aplicar una regressió logística a aqueixes dades per a predir les condicions futures del trànsit. La tercera i última contribució d'aquesta tesi apunta directament al nou paradigma de gestió de trànsit previst. Es tracta d'un servidor de rutes capaç de manejar tot el trànsit en una ciutat, i equilibrar els fluxos de trànsit tenint en compte les condicions de congestió del trànsit presents i futures. Per tant, realitzem un estudi de simulació amb dades reals de congestió de trànsit a la ciutat de València (Espanya), per a demostrar com es pot millorar el flux de trànsit en un dia típic mitjançant la solució proposada. Els resultats experimentals mostren que la nostra solució, combinada amb una actualització freqüent de les condicions del trànsit en el servidor de rutes, és capaç d'aconseguir millores substancials en termes de velocitat faig una mitjana i de temps de trajecte, tots dos indicadors d'un grau menor de congestió i d'una fluïdesa millor del trànsit.
[EN] Currently, one of the main challenges that large metropolitan areas have to face is traffic congestion, which has become an important problem faced by city authorities. To address this problem, it becomes necessary to implement an efficient solution to control traffic that generates benefits for citizens, such as reducing vehicle journey times and, consequently, use of fuel, noise and environmental pollution. In fact, by properly analyzing traffic demand, it becomes possible to predict future traffic conditions, and to use that information for the optimization of the routes taken by vehicles. Such an approach becomes especially effective if applied in the context of autonomous vehicles, which have a more predictable behavior, thus enabling city management entities to mitigate the effects of traffic congestion and pollution by improving the traffic flow in a city in a fully centralized manner. Validating this approach typically requires the use of simulations, which should be as realistic as possible. However, achieving high degrees of realism can be complex when the actual traffic patterns, defined through an Origin/Destination (O-D) matrix for the vehicles in a city, are unknown, as occurs most of the times. Thus, the first contribution of this thesis is to develop an iterative heuristic for improving traffic congestion modeling; starting from real induction loop measurements made available by the City Hall of Valencia, Spain, we were able to generate an O-D matrix for traffic simulation that resembles the real traffic distribution. If it were possible to characterize the state of traffic by predicting future traffic conditions for optimizing the route of automated vehicles, and if these measures could be taken to preventively mitigate the effects of congestion with its related problems, the overall traffic flow could be improved. Thereby, the second contribution of this thesis was to develop a Traffic Prediction Equation to characterize the different streets of a city in terms of travel time with respect to the vehicle load, and applying logistic regression to those data to predict future traffic conditions. The third and last contribution of this thesis towards our envisioned traffic management paradigm was a route server capable of handling all the traffic in a city, and balancing traffic flows by accounting for present and future traffic congestion conditions. Thus, we perform a simulation study using real data of traffic congestion in the city of Valencia, Spain, to demonstrate how the traffic flow in a typical day can be improved using our proposed solution. Experimental results show that our proposed solution, combined with frequent updating of traffic conditions on the route server, is able to achieve substantial improvements in terms of average travel speeds and travel times, both indicators of lower degrees of congestion and improved traffic fluidity.

Dagens parallella ökning av konsumtion och hållbarhetstänk ställer höga krav på företag. Digitaliseringen och den tekniska progressionen utmanar företag än mer att arbeta mot ständig förbättring för att bibehålla sin konkurrenskraft och är en aspekt som studien lyfter. En av de väsentligaste aktiviteterna att reformera för en transportdistributör inom tillväxtfasen är dess planering och i denna studie läggs vikten således på rutteffektivisering utifrån både kostnads-och miljöaspekter. För att utforma en gynnsam ruttplanering är en av de viktigaste aspekterna informationsflödet. Det finns en tydlig koppling att företag som har ett ineffektivt informationsflöde har svårigheter med att ta fram en ruttplanering som är effektiv. Studien har sitt fokus på mindre företag som befinner sig i tillväxtfasen och hur dessa fördelaktigt kan effektivisera sin ruttplanering och informationsflöde för att bibehålla sin konkurrenskraftighet. Utifrån det teoretiska ramverket, intervjuer och tilldelad data identifieras brister inom informationsflödet och ruttplaneringen. Teorier om omvänd logistik, ruttplanering, värdeflödesanalys och informationssystem med fokus på kommunikation kommer appliceras och användas. Det ska dessutom påvisas varför en bra och välutvecklad ruttplanering är mer gynnsam för ett företag. Via en kartläggning har dessa brister undersökts och reformeringsförslag på informationsflödet har framställts. Dessutom har, via en jämförelse av ruttplanering mellan ett stort mer erfaret företag och ett litet företag med mindre erfarenhet, fördelar och tankesätt kring utförandet av en ruttplanering framtagits. Det visar sig att ett noggrant och grundligt genomtänkt ruttplanering och information och kommunikations-system anpassat efter organisationens behov och prioriteringar skapar konkurrenskraftighet, till skillnad från att använda penna och papper metoden. Vetenskapligt framtagna manuella ruttplaneringsmetoder så som fasta slingor och svepmetoden appliceras fördelaktigt på ett företag i tillväxtfasen. Det genererar samtidigt i en hög kundtillfredsställelse och lönsamhet samtidigt som det ökar miljömedvetenheten hos små företag i tillväxtfasen. Utöver detta skapas en trygghet för den anställde och kontroll över företagets resurser och kapaciteter fås. Problem som är förekommande inom informationsflödet är bland annat ej standardiserad information i körscheman men med hjälp av rutiner, standarder och ett nuläge att utgå ifrån kan ett förbättringsarbete påbörjas och styras i rätt riktning. Studien påvisar att detta är av stor vikt även inom ruttplanering.
Today's parallel increase in consumption and sustainability thinking places high demands on companies. Digitization and technological progression challenge companies even more to work towards continuous improvement in order to maintain their competitiveness and is an aspect that the study highlights. One of the most important activities to reform for a transport distributor within the growth phase is its planning, and in this study the emphasis is thus on route efficiency based on both cost and environmental aspects. In order to design a profitable route planning, one of the most important aspects is the information flow. There is a clear link that companies that have an inefficient information flow have difficulties in developing a route planning that is efficient. The study focuses on smaller companies that are in the growth phase and how these can advantageously streamline their route planning and information flow to maintain their competitiveness. Based on the theoretical framework, interviews and assigned data, shortcomings in the information flow and route planning are identified. Theories of reverse logistics, route planning, value stream map analysis and information systems with a focus on communication will be applied and used. It also demonstrates why a good and well-developed route planning is more favorable for a company. Through a survey, these shortcomings have been investigated and reform proposals for the information flow have been made. In addition, through a comparison of route planning between a large, more experienced company, and a small company with less experience, advantages, and ways of thinking about the execution of a route planning have been developed. It turns out that a carefully and thoroughly thought-out route planning and information and communication system adapted to the organization's needs and priorities creates competitiveness, as opposed to using the pen and paper method. Scientifically developed manual route planning methods such as fixed loops and the sweep method are advantageously applied to a company in the growth phase. At the same time, it generates a high level of customer satisfaction and profitability while increasing the environmental awareness of small companies in the growth phase. In addition to this, security is created for the employee and control over the company's resources and capacities is gained. Problems that occur in the information flow include non-standardized information in driving schedules, but with the help of routines, standards, and a current situation to compare with, improvement work can be started and steered in the right direction. The study shows that it is also of great importance when it comes to route planning.

Abstract:
The mechanisms underlying stretch-induced signalling in the human myometrium are poorly understood. Previous work in the group has demonstrated that in vitro stretch of human myometrial cells leads to increased expression of the pro-labour factors COX-2 and IL-8 via activation of the ERK-1/2 MAPK cascade, however the identities of components upstream in this pathway have yet to be elucidated. I over expressed constitutively active Ras in human myometrial cells, leading to increased ERK-1/2 phosphorylation and elevated COX-2 and IL-8 mRNA expression. I then inhibited Ras using both the chemical inhibitor manumycin A and transfection with dominant-negative mutant Ras. Each resulted in decreased ERK-1/2 phosphorylation and COX-2 expression in response to stretch. I performed immunoprecipitations to investigate which factors associated with Ras and found that stretch increased its association with SOS-1 and Grb-2. I then confirmed that Grb-2 was essential for the propagation of the stretch signal to ERK-1/2 by using siRNA to silence Grb- 2 and found that this resulted in decreased phosphorylation of ERK-1/2 and COX-2 and IL-8 protein synthesis. Silencing of SOS-1 decreased COX-2 protein expression but had little effect on ERK-1/2 phosphorylation. I then investigated the role of FAK, a constituent of stretch sensing focal adhesions, in the transduction of the stretch signal. First I used the inhibitors Y-27632 and PF-573,228, however neither inhibited the stretch-induced increase in ERK-1/2 phosphorylation or COX-2 and IL-8 mRNA expression In contrast, using siRNA to silence FAK expression reduced both the stretch-induced increase in ERK-1/2 phosphorylation and COX-2 and IL-8 protein synthesis. Moreover, transfection with dominant-negative FRNK reduced ERK-1 phosphorylation and COX-2 protein synthesis. Cells were also treated with the Src family kinase inhibitor PP-2 resulting in a decrease in stretch-induced ERK-1/2 phosphorylation and COX-2 protein synthesis. These data suggest that Ras, Grb-2 and FAK all act upstream of ERK-1/2 to mediate stretchinduced up-regulation of COX-2 and IL-8 in human myometrial cells, the role of SOS-1 is less clear, but also appears to be involved in stretch-induced expression of COX-2.

This research aims to propose and simulate various scenarios based on the principles of Lean Construction aiming to run a reticulated structure of reinforced concrete residential building with multiple floors within the stipulated time in its planning, taking as within seven days (takt time) to completion. The research strategies adopted included a literature review, identification of application opportunities of the principles of Lean Construction, the development of computational model that represented the studied structure, as well as the various scenarios and their simulation. The opportunities of application of the Lean Construction principles were identified through evaluation of Value Stream Mapping (VSM) and Line of Balance (LB). Five scenarios were prepared, the first being the reference, from which were simulated improvements with the use of simulation software ProModel® in 2014. Each version simulation carried out with consideration of an improvement based on the principles of Lean Construction, resulted in the reduction of lead time, converging in the simulation of the latter scenario, for a little higher than the takt time. As a partial indicator of simulation scenarios were evaluated the average cycle times, drive, hold and conversion data they extracted the software used. A comparison of time between the first scenario, depicted as representing the simple observation of the site plus the inherent variability and the latter scenario, characterized by cumulative application of the principles of lean construction, showed that the cycle time returned a reduction in the order of 29% handling increased by 105%, the expected reduced by 54% and the conversion time reduced by 26%. The main result achieved in the fifth scenario was a Lead Time 66.2 hours production. It can be seen that the use of the VSM and simulation provides a clear and concise communication on lean approaches and thus allows the understanding and continuing evolution of Lean concepts.
Este trabalho tem por objetivo propor e simular vários cenários com base nos princípios da Construção Enxuta objetivando executar uma estrutura reticulada de concreto armado de uma edificação residencial de múltiplos pavimentos dentro do prazo estipulado no seu planejamento, tendo-se como prazo de sete dias (takt time) para sua finalização. As estratégias de pesquisa adotadas incluíram a revisão bibliográfica, a identificação das oportunidades de aplicação dos princípios da Construção Enxuta, a elaboração do modelo computacional que representou a estrutura estudada, assim como os vários cenários e sua simulação. As oportunidades da aplicação dos princípios da Construção Enxuta foram identificadas por meio da avaliação do Mapeamento do Fluxo de Valor (MFV) e Linha de Balanço (LB). Foram elaborados 5 cenários, sendo o primeiro o de referência, a partir do qual foram simuladas as melhorias com uso do software de simulação ProModel® na versão 2014. Cada simulação realizada, com a consideração de uma melhoria com base nos princípios da Construção Enxuta, resultou na redução do lead time, convergindo, na simulação do último cenário, para um valor pouco superior ao takt time. Como indicador parcial dos cenários da simulação, foram avaliados o valor médio dos tempos de ciclo, movimentação, espera e conversão, dados estes extraídos do software utilizado. A comparação dos tempos entre o primeiro cenário, caracterizado como a representação da simples observação do canteiro acrescido sua variabilidade inerente, e o último cenário, caracterizado pela aplicação cumulativa dos princípios da construção enxuta, mostrou que o tempo de ciclo retornou uma redução na ordem de 29%, a movimentação aumentou em 105%, a espera reduziu em 54% e o tempo de conversão reduziu em 26%. O principal resultado alcançado no quinto cenário, foi um Lead Time de produção de 66,2 horas. Pode-se observar que o uso do MFV e da simulação fornece uma comunicação clara e concisa sobre abordagens enxutas e, desta forma, permite a compreensão e a evolução contínua dos conceitos Lean.

The Stephens Creek Watershed in southwest Portland, Oregon was chosen by the city as a pilot project for urban stream restoration efforts, and the infiltration of stormwater was identified as a potential restoration strategy. The Stephens Creek Watershed has historically been known to be unstable during high precipitation events (Burns, 1996), and the need to address the response of slope stability to anthropogenically-driven changing groundwater conditions is the focus of this study. Airborne light detection and ranging (LiDAR) and geotechnical data from the City of Portland were employed to create a high resolution (0.84 m2) physics-based probabilistic slope stability model for this watershed, using the map-based probabilistic infinite slope analysis program PISA-m (Haneberg, 2007). Best and worst case models were run using fully dry and fully saturated soil conditions, respectively. Model results indicate that 96.3% of the watershed area had a probability [less than or equal to] 0.25 that the slope factor of safety (FOS) was [less than or equal to] 1 for fully dry conditions, compared to 76.4% for fully saturated conditions. Areas that had a probability [greater than or equal to] 0.25 that the slope factor of safety (FOS) was [less than or equal to] 1 were found to occur mainly along cut/fill slopes as well as within the deeply incised canyons of Stephens Creek and its tributaries. An infiltration avoidance map was derived to define areas that appear to be unsuitable for infiltration. Based on these results, it is recommended that stormwater continues to be directed to existing sewer infrastructure and that the "storm water disconnect" restoration approach not be used by the city.

La trattazione di questo elaborato ha come tema il miglioramento del flusso logistico in ingresso dell’azienda Focchi S.p.A. attraverso l’approccio del “Lean Thinking”. In particolare è stato sviluppato uno studio di fattibilità sull’attuazione di action plan migliorativi ai processi coinvolti con l’obiettivo di quantificare i potenziali benefici in termini di tempo e di costo. A supporto dello studio, sono stati integrati nell’analisi i benefici che apporteranno due pacchetti software di successiva implementazione in azienda. Essi permetteranno di aumentare l’integrazione logistica e il coordinamento tra reparti attraverso l’automazione del flusso informativo. Inizialmente sono presentati i concetti chiave che sono alla base del “pensiero snello”. Successivamente sono stati mappati i processi coinvolti all’interno del flusso logistico inbound attraverso la Value Stream Map (VSM) e analizzati in dettaglio attraverso un’analisi Tempi & Metodi (T&M). Si prosegue con l’ideazione degli action plan migliorativi per ogni processo in modo da minimizzare le attività non a valore aggiunto e si è quantificato il beneficio conseguente. Infine è stata confrontata la VSM dello stato AS-IS con la VSM dello stato TO-BE per valutare, attraverso KPI selezionati, l’esito dello studio di fattibilità svolto in termini di convenienza di applicazione dell’approccio “lean” all’interno del contesto aziendale.

Lean is a method used mainly in assembly manufacturing to streamline production by eliminating various types of waste. The use of Lean in the process industry is currently limited. Some critics say, the use of the tools in Lean is very limited, while others argue that the approach of the method needs to be adapted to the conditions that exist in the process industry. Since Lean aims to eliminate waste, there is a tool called value stream map that is used to map material and information flow to identify waste in the manufacturing industry. The thesis was conducted as a case study at BillerudKorsnäs Karlsborg's paper production, where the purpose was to investigate how value stream mapping can be applied in the paper industry, with the aim of identifying and eliminating non-value-creating activities. While performing the value stream map, several problem areas were identified within the information and material flow. The most important were considered maintenance of the production equipment as well as product and material handling. This led, among other things, to recommendations for expanding finished goods inventory and introducing better documentation, to create inventory management strategies to reduce inventory levels in material inventories. Following a value stream map, it was also concluded that the applicability of the tool was considered good since activities and problem areas could be identified synoptically.
Lean är en metod som främst används inom stycktillverkning för att kunna effektivisera produktionen genom eliminering av olika typer av slöserier. Användningen av Lean inom processindustrin är i dagsläget begränsad, somliga kritiker menar på att användandet av de verktyg som Lean erbjuder är väldigt begränsade medan andra hävdar att metodernas angreppssätt behöver anpassas efter de förutsättningar som finns inom processindustrin. Då Lean syftar till att eliminera slöserier finns det ett verktyg som heter värdeflödesanalys som används för att kartlägga material- och informationsflöde för att kunna identifiera slöserier inom tillverkningsindustrin. Examensarbetet utfördes som en fallstudie på BillerudKorsnäs papperstillverkning i Karlsborg där syftet var att undersöka hur värdeflödesanalys kan tillämpas inom pappersindustrin med målsättningen att identifiera och eliminera icke värdeskapande aktiviteter. Vid utförandet av värdeflödesanalysen identifierades en mängd problemområden inom information- och materialflödet. De mest väsentliga ansågs vara underhåll av produktionsutrustningen samt produkt- och materialhantering. Detta ledde bland annat till rekommendationer att utöka färdigvarulager samt införa bättre dokumentation, för att skapa lagerhanteringsstrategier med syfte att minska lagernivåer i materialager. Efter genomförd värdeflödesanalys kunde även slutsatserna dras att tillämpbarheten av verktyget ansågs vara god då aktiviteter och problemområden kunde identifieras på ett överskådligt sätt.

I denna studie undersöker vi hur socialsekreterare resonerar kring LVU med fokus på handlingsutrymme, makt samt överväganden och osäkerheter i LVUhandläggning i syfte att undersöka socialsekreterarnas egna tankar och upplevelser vilket är ett perspektiv som i nuvarande forskningsfält är svagt behandlat. Med utgångspunkt i Lipskys teori om gräsrotsbyråkrati har vi utfört semistruktureradeintervjuer med åtta socialsekreterare vid fyra barnenheter och två ungdomsenheter. Vi fann att socialsekreterarna i vår studie beskrev en komplex bild av deras arbete. Stundom upplever de att de har makt och handlingsutrymme, och stundom inte. Detta kunde bero på LVU-handläggningens utformande, samt hur mycket ansvar den enskilde socialsekreteraren fick från sin organisation. Deras arbete genomsyras även av flera genomgående osäkerheter som uppstår i svåra överväganden i LVUhandläggning. Vi såg även att makt hade en stor roll i socialsekreterarnas arbete,framför allt när det kommer till samarbete med familj och hur mötet med barn och unga struktureras. Samtidigt beskrev socialsekreterarna hur LVU-handläggning ibland följs av en känsla av maktlöshet när det inte går som planerat.

Este trabalho consiste na análise da fragilidade ambiental da Bacia Hidrográfica do Arroio Pelotas (BHAP), RS, partindo de uma metodologia que integra o estudo dos aspectos físicos e sócio econômicos da área de estudo. A BHAP possui uma área de aproximadamente 910 km², abrangendo parte do território dos municípios de Pelotas, Canguçu, Arroio do Padre e Morro Redondo. O resultado final do trabalho consiste na carta de fragilidade ambiental da bacia hidrográfica em estudo, o qual foi possível a partir dos estudos e mapeamentos básicos da geologia, geomorfologia, solos e uso do solo. A unidade de estudo localiza-se sobre duas importantes unidades morfoesculturais do estado do Rio Grande do Sul, na porção norte da bacia hidrográfica situa-se o Planalto Uruguaio Sul-rio-grandense, que apresenta em sua morfoestrutura rochas ígneas plutônicas, metamórficas e sedimentares, datadas do período Précambriano. Na porção sul, em direção a sua foz, no Canal São Gonçalo, situase a unidade denominada Planície Costeira que possui como morfoestrutura a Bacia Sedimentar de Pelotas, do período Cenozóico. As altitudes na área de estudo variam do nível do mar, na Planície Costeira a aproximadamente 500 metros no Planalto Uruguaio Sul-rio-grandense. Com relação às declividades, a área de estudo apresenta 52% da área total com declividades de 0 a 6%, declividades Muito Fracas, sendo que toda a porção da Planície Costeira se inclui nesta classe. A soma das declividades Médias, Fortes e Muito Fortes, constituem 27% do total da Bacia Hidrográfica do Arroio Pelotas, estas classes são encontradas no Planalto Uruguaio Sul-rio-grandense. Quanto aos tipos de solos, predominam na BHAP os Argissolos Bruno-acinzentados e os Argissolos Vermelho-amarelo na porção norte e os Planossolos na porção sul. O principal tipo de uso do solo identificado na área de estudo é a agricultura (uso misto), representando 55% da área. A carta de fragilidade possibilitou a análise da fragilidade dos ambientes, com relação aos processos erosivos e processos de inundações. Na BHAP foram identificadas áreas com fragilidade Muito Fraca (3%), Fraca (26%), Média (52%), Forte (16%) e Muito Forte (3%).
The present study examines the environmental fragility of the Hydrographic Basin of the Arroio Pelotas (HBAP), RS, with the use of a methodology that integrates the study of its physical and socioeconomic aspects. The HBAP has an area of approximately 910 km², covering part of the territory of the municipalities of Pelotas, Canguçu, Arroio do Padre and Morro Redondo. The final result is the letter of environmental fragility of the watershed under study, which was based on the thematic studies and mapping of geology, geomorphology, soils and land use. The study unit is located on two important morphosculptural provinces of the state of Rio Grande do Sul; in the northern portion of the watershed lies the Uruguayan Plateau South-rio-grandese, which presents plutonic igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks, dating from Precambrian period, in its morphostructure. In the southern portion, toward the mouth of Pelotas stream, is located the unit called the Rio Grande do Sul Coastal Plain, which has the Sedimentary Basin of Pelotas, from the Cenozoic period, for its morphostructure. The altitudes in the study area vary from sea level in the Coastal Plain to about 500 meters in the Uruguayan Plateau Southrio- grandese. Concerning the slopes, they rate as very low at 52% of the total area of the HBAP, and low at 21% of the area, including the entire Coastal Plain and some areas on the Plateau. The sum of average, strong and very strong slopes constitute 27% of the whole watershed of the Pelotas stream; these classes are located entirely in the Uruguayan Plateau South-rio-grandense. As for the types of soils, bruno-gray and red-yellow Argisols predominate in the northern basin, while Planosols predominate in the southern portion. The main land use found in the study area is agriculture (mixed use), representing 55% of the study area. The letter of fragility allowed the analysis of the fragility of the environments, relating to erosion and flood risk. In the HBAP were identified areas with Very Low (3%), Low (26%), Average (52%), Strong (16%) and Very Strong (3%) environmental fragility.

Abstract:
Creating physical simulations between virtual and real objects in Augmented Reality (AR) is essential for the user experience. Otherwise the user might lose sense of depth, distance and size. One of these simulations is occlusion, meaning that virtual content should be partially or fully occluded if real world objects is in the line-of-sight between the user and the content. The challenge for simulating occlusion is to construct the geometric model of the current AR environment. Earlier studies within the field have all tried to create realistic pixel-perfect occlusion and most of them have either required depth-sensing hardware or a static predefined environment. This study proposes and evaluates an alternative model-based approach to the problem. It uses geospatial data to construct the geometric model of all the buildings in the current environment, making virtual content occluded by all real buildings in the current environment. This approach made the developed function compatible with non depth-sensing devices and in a dynamic outdoor urban environment. To evaluate the solution it was implemented in a sensor-based AR application visualizing a future building in Stockholm. The effect of the developed function was that the future virtual building was occluded as expected. However, it was not pixel-perfect, meaning that the simulated occlusion was not realistic, but results from the conducted user study said that it fulfilled its goal. A majority of the participants thought that their AR experience got better with the solution activated and that their depth perception improved. However, any definite conclusions could not be drawn due to issues with the sensor-based tracking. The result from this study is interesting for the mobile AR field since the great majority of smartphones are not equipped with depth sensors. Using geospatial data for simulating occlusions, or other physical interactions between virtual and real objects, could then be an efficient enough solution until depth-sensing AR devices are more widely used.
För att uppnå en god användarupplevelse i Augmented Reality (AR) så är det viktigt att simulera fysiska interaktioner mellan de virtuella och reella objekten. Om man inte gör det kan användare uppfatta saker som djup, avstånd och storlek felaktigt. En av dessa simulationer är ocklusion som innebär att det virtuella innehållet ska vara delvis eller helt ockluderat om ett reellt objekt finns i siktlinjen mellan användaren och innehållet. För att simulera detta är utmaningen att rekonstruera den geometriska modellen av den nuvarande miljön.Tidigare studier inom fältet har försökt att uppnå en perfekt simulation av ocklusion, men majoriteten av dem har då krävt antingen djupavkännande hårdvara eller en statisk fördefinierad miljö. Denna studie föreslår och utvärderar en alternativ modellbaserad lösning på problemet. Lösningen använder geospatial data för att rekonstruera den geometriska modellen av alla byggnader i den nuvarande omgivningen, vilket resulterar i att det virtuella innehållet blir ockluderat av alla reella byggnader i den nuvarande miljön. Den utvecklade funktionen blev i och med det kompatibel på icke djupavkännande enheter och fungerande i en dynamisk urban miljö. För attutvärdera denna funktion så var den implementerad i en sensorbaserad AR applikation som visualiserade en framtida byggnad i Stockholm. Resultatet visade att den utvecklade funktionen ockluderade den virtuella byggnaden som förväntat. Dock gjorde den ej det helt realistiskt, men resultatet från den utförda användarstudien visade att den uppnådde sitt mål. Majoriteten av deltagarna ansåg att deras AR upplevelse blev bättre med den utvecklade funktionen aktiverad och ett deras uppfattning av djup förbättrades. Dock kan inga definitiva slutsatser dras eftersom AR applikationen hade problem med den sensorbaserade spårningen. Resultaten är intressant för det mobila AR fältet eftersom majoriteten av alla smartphones ej har stöd för djupavkänning. Att använda geospatial data för att simulera ocklusion, eller någon annan fysisk interaktion mellan virtuella och reella objekt, kan då vara en tillräckligt effektiv lösning tills djupavkännande AR enheter används mer.

En este trabajo se analiza el modelo de producción de una planta de extracción y procesamiento de materiales para la construcción del radio urbano de la ciudad de Lima, buscando identificar aquellos factores que afectan a su productividad. Mediante un análisis basado en el mapeo del flujo de valor de los procesos (value stream mapping) tomando en consideración tiempos, secuencia y flujos, se identificaron las restricciones del sistema, sus cuellos de botella y los trabajos no “contributorios”. Utilizando esa información, se individualizaron los procesos constitutivos y se identificaron sus problemas. Aplicando los métodos de la filosofía Lean, se evaluó que es posible modificar los factores de éxito como alcance, tiempo, costo y calidad. Esto permitiría lograr a corto plazo una mejora en la productividad de la empresa. Además, la incorporación de premisas guías de gestión de la calidad y gestión del mantenimiento pueden resultar en otras oportunidades de mejora. La propuesta desarrollada proporcionaría los siguientes beneficios para la empresa: identificación de las principales causas de las paralizaciones en la producción, mejora del registro, control y evaluación de los procesos, incremento en la vida útil de los equipos y maquinaria, y reducción de los tiempos en los procesos operativos. Una conclusión importante es que será el monitoreo periódico el que permitirá que la mejora en la productividad sea una constante en la empresa.
This work is devoted to the analysis of the production model of a construction materials extraction and processing plant of Lima City, identifying those factors that affect its productivity. By applying a value stream mapping analysis considering operation times, sequencies and streams, the main system restrictions were identified along with bottlenecks and non-contributing activities. This information allowed to identify each individual process and associated problems. By applying the Lean Method, it would be possible to modify the success factors such as reach, times, costs and quality, which would allow to improve the plant productivity in the short term. In addition, the inclusion of guidelines of quality control management and maintenance control management could represent novel opportunities for quality improvement. The proposal developed here would result in the following benefits for the company: identification of the main causes of stoppages in production, improvement of the record keeping, control and evaluation of processes, enhanced lifetime of equipment and machinery, and reduction in operational times. An important conclusion is that only by periodically monitoring the system a long-lasting company productivity improvement could be achieved.

La presente investigación tiene por objetivo presentar una propuesta de mejora para optimizar el proceso de producción en una empresa Panificadora aplicando la herramienta del Lean Manufacturing, lo cual permite mejorar el desempeño del proceso productivo y de los procesos. Para ello se realizará un análisis de la problemática y las posibles causas para tomar como base de la mejora continua que se propondrá incrementando productividad y rentabilidad. Luego del proceso de análisis se han identificado los siguientes problemas: ausencia de una adecuada asignación del personal, ausencia de un adecuado programa de mantenimiento, ausencia de una adecuada distribución de planta, ausencia de personal calificado y ausencia de un adecuado control e insumos, lo cual impide el cumplimiento del programa de producción. La presente tesis está conformada por tres capítulos los que en su conjunto permiten definir claramente la problemática, la propuesta de solución, la evaluación económica de la propuesta de solución y las conclusiones y recomendaciones. Finalmente, la presente tesis puede utilizarse como base para futuras investigaciones en la mejora del proceso de gestión de la producción, sin embargo, se debe evaluar las variables independientes en cada caso, en particular, ya que la presente tesis se limita al análisis del proceso productivo de la empresa Panificadora.
The objective of this research is to present an improvement proposal to optimize the production process in a bakery company by applying the Lean Manufacturing tool, which allows improving the performance of the production process and processes. For this, an analysis of the problem and possible causes will be carried out to take as a basis for continuous improvement that will be proposed by increasing productivity and profitability. After the analysis process, the following problems have been identified: absence of an adequate personnel assignment, absence of an adequate maintenance program, absence of an adequate plant distribution, absence of qualified personnel, and absence of adequate control and supplies, which which prevents the fulfillment of the production program. This thesis is made up of three chapters, which together allow a clear definition of the problem, the solution proposal, the economic evaluation of the solution proposal and the conclusions and recommendations. Finally, this thesis can be used as a basis for future research in the improvement of the production management process, however, the independent variables must be evaluated in each case, in particular, since this thesis is limited to the analysis of the process production of the bakery company.
