Abstract:
This paper describes a distinct clinical approach to the treatment of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). It is theoretically guided by recent cognitive models of PTSD and explicitly combines cognitive therapy techniques within exposure/reliving procedures. A clinically pertinent distinction is made between the cognitions and emotions experienced at the time of the trauma and, subsequently, in flashback experiences, and secondary negative appraisals. The term peritraumatic emotional “hotspot” is used to describe moments of peak distress during trauma. It is argued that a focus on cognitively

Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is unique in its longitudinal focus. To better understand how PTSD develops, we used network analysis in a longitudinal sample of survivors of the 2007 Virginia Tech campus shootings. Participants were 212 women who completed surveys at both 2 and 12 months after the shooting. Using within-group permutation tests, we found that overall network strength significantly increased and overall network structure significantly changed. Several symptoms saw marked alterations in their network centrality and relations to other symptoms. Psychological reactivity at re

In this study, 10×200×1000mm DH 36 steel plates were welded and then treated by VSR for about 1 hour. After the treatment, the residual stress was decreased by 29-72% at the welded toe, where the highest residual stress occurs. The metallographic microstructure of the joint was not changed by VSR. This study examines the psychological impact of childbirth on first-time mothers, focusing on post-traumatic stress and depressive symptoms using the Impact of Event Scale (IES) and the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS). Many participants experienced intrusive thoughts, avoidance behaviors, and depressive symptoms within the first year postpartum. A strong correlation was found between mothers’ sense of safety and presence during childbirth and lower stress and EPDS scores. Additionally, the duration of Baby Blues was associated with higher IES and EPDS scores, suggesting that early

Reliving is an integral part of trauma-focused CBT, a recommended treatment for PTSD with a convincing evidence base supporting its use. However, the literature suggests that clinicians are reluctant to use reliving in therapy. Very few studies have explored clients' experiences of undergoing CBT for PTSD, and it seems none have specifically at reliving. The aim of this study was to explore participants' experiences of undergoing reliving as part of CBT for PTSD and help clinicians understand how clients experience this central element of treatment.

Abstract More than half of all Americans are exposed to a life-threatening traumatic event at least once, and one-quarter of Americans more than once (Kessler, Sonnega, Bromet, Hughes, & Nelson, 1995). Although there are many possible psychological and biological responses to traumatic events, almost half of those exposed to such events may develop the particular avoidance and hyperarousal symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) (Kessler et al., 1995). Many of the symptoms of PTSD overlap with those of depressive and anxiety disorders. What distinguishes PTSD is a biphasic pattern

Trauma is an intense form of stress characterized by overwhelming experiences accompanied by a lack of safety, agency and helplessness when exposed to a significant perilous event or series of events (either real or perceived). Unhealed traumas may result in re-traumatisation, triggering memories of the past trauma and reliving trauma all over again in the present moment as if it is happening now. Further, the potential risk for re-traumatisation increases with trauma survivors’ exposure to high-stress environments. Globally, individuals, communities and societies' exposure to traumatic stress

Abstract A certain, fairly widespread, pair of assumptions are, perhaps, implicit in the project which the present volume represents. It is assumed, first, that the notion of consciousness’ should have a fundamental place in our attempts to understand the phenomenon of human memory; and, secondly, that that understanding will be enhanced by an attempt at dialogue between philosophy and psychology. Now it is perhaps worth saying at the start that this chapter is, in part, an attempt to raise certain worries about these assumptions. I say this at the start partly in order to stress that, perhaps

Abstract The Revolution of 1830 fundamentally altered the relationship between the government and people of France. The rigid distinction between the pays légal (the small elite of notables which alone had the right and the opportunity to participate in politics) and the pays réel, which had formed the heart of the Charter of 1814 and the basis of political life under the Restoration, broke down on the streets of Paris on 27, 28, and 29 July. In the euphoria which followed, the people of Paris believed that they were reliving the glorious days of 1789; the July Revolution revivified the concep
