Möbius strips are prototypical examples of ribbon-like structures. Inspecting their shapes and features provides useful insights into the rich mechanics of elastic ribbons. Despite their ubiquity and ease of construction, quantitative experimental measurements of the three-dimensional shapes of Möbius strips are surprisingly non-existent in the literature. We propose two novel stereo vision-based techniques to this end—a marker-based technique that determines a Lagrangian description for the construction of a Möbius strip, and a structured light illumination technique that furnishes an Euleria

Considering the popularity of CMOS image sensors in smartphones and their powerful processing functions, this work developed a smartphone-based FICA strip reader. ✓ Temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) is the most common type of surgically treatable epilepsy, with a considerable number of patients needing invasive electroencephalography monitoring. The authors describe a surgical technique used in the placement of subdural strip electrodes for coverage of the temporal lobe. The electrodes are inserted through an enlarged temporooccipital bur hole using fluoroscopic guidance. With this technique, subdural electrode strips can be safely placed to cover the mesial, inferior, and lateral temporal surfaces, and the seizure focus can be lateralized and localized with

SummaryAn extra-articular fascial strip technique, for stabilization of the cranial cruciate deficient stifle, is described and evaluated in a series of seven dogs suffering from rupture of the cranial cruciate ligament. The technique was easily performed and resulted in normal stifle joint bio-mechanics, as determined by evaluation of the instantaneous centre of motion. Cranial drawer motion was eliminated immediately after the operation and, after a partial loss of stability at four weeks, six stifles had normal or possessed less than 3.0 mm of cranial drawer motion in either flexion or exte

This paper presents design data relating to sealing strips for tubular heat exchangers. Sealing strip shapes, locations, and gap widths (the distance between the sealing strip and the nearest tube) are evaluated as to the pressure drop they create and, more importantly, as to their heat transfer characteristics. Velocity data were collected using a laser-Doppler anemometry system for which the fluid within the test model flow loop was refractive index matched with the pyrex rods that made up the tube bundle. Lower eyelid entropion is malposition of the lower eyelid, potentially leading to loss of vision. The most common causes of entropion are involutional changes, less often cicatricial or paralysis factors. In order to treat involutional entropion there are multiple surgical techniques, referred to its cause, which may be vertical laxity, horizontal laxity or migration of orbicularis oculi muscle. Preoperative examination is the key to choosing proper technique. The most common surgical technique is Lateral Tarsal Strip, which refers to horizontal laxity, the main factor of involutional entropio

This paper proposes a near-nature ecological technique, which can consist of a wide range of materials, to protect against pier scouring. The proposed technique can involve the use of many long strips that behave like water weeds. This paper studied a protection method against pier scour by using long strips in a submerged overfall, particularly for a pier located at the maximum depth area of overfall scour. The length and size of the strips were chosen as factors to study their protective effect. Our results showed that this approach slowed the flow velocity between the installed strips and b

AbstractThe evolutionary process of modern hair transplantation began with the plug era and, transitioning through a period of minigrafting and micrografting, finally led to follicular unit transplantation (FUT). Apart from the expansion of donor:recipient ratio, this technique produces an excellent esthetic result, indistinguishable from the natural hair. The merit of strip harvest lies in the maximum amount of follicular unit harvest, minimizing the amount of hair follicle transection, and producing a single scar, irrespective of number of sessions. An innovative technique is described that utilizes the removal of a median horizontal strip of lower lateral cartilage to enhance projection, while maintaining a natural highlight and tip support without the use of grafts.
