We currently observe such curvature in, e.g., the Marianas, Chile and Aleutian trenches. Abstract:
The magnetic field due to an azimuthally symmetric distribution of subsurface electric current, which may be associated with vertical hydrocarbon seepage, vanishes above the ground surface. However, geologic conditions in general do not provide perfect isotropic conditions, and, in theory, some magnetic fields can be generated by the magnetoelectric effect. Sedimentary rock sections are relatively isotropic, particularly in the stratigraphic plane. Thus, hydrocarbon seepage‐induced magnetic fields above the ground surface may never be significant, even if strong electric currents are associate

Abstract During inflammatory joint diseases, chondrocytes are exposed to cytokines such as IL-1 that induce the synthesis of nitric oxide (NO). Chondrocytes from different zones of the articular cartilage are known to have different metabolic properties. In the present study, we have demonstrated that chondrocytes recovered from the superficial zone of normal, human, articular cartilage synthesize approximately 2 to 3 times as much NO in response to IL-1 as chondrocytes recovered from the deep zone of the same cartilage. Production of NO by normal cartilage in response to IL-1 was also found t

The Tornquist Fan is a northwestward widening splay of late Carboniferous–early Permian fault zones in the region of Denmark emanating from the Teisseyre-Tornquist Zone in northern Poland. The crust–mantle boundary shows an undulating topography which correlates with the main tectonic features of the area. Zones of high average velocity through the consolidated crust coincide with pronounced positive Bouguer gravity anomalies in the deep basins and in the border zone of the shield. Less pronounced, similar correlation to gravity is found for the thickness of the lower crust, whereas the thickn

In addition, seven zones are hosted in a restricted volume of ~1 km3, which is called the Eastern Gold Zone. Bedrock mineral breakdown in mountainous landscapes sustains long-term atmospheric CO₂ drawdown and releases solutes that sustain ecosystems and set the chemistry of upland stream water. In the unsaturated Bedrock Vadose Zone (BVZ) of hillslopes, minerals, water, reactive gases, and deep roots interact to produce a hotspot of these weathering reactions. New evidence suggests that, in the BVZ, rock moisture sustains evapotranspiration, while deep roots drive deep CO₂ production.
