The paper presents structural and functional-semantic classifications of Koryak polypredicative constructions with the clause linkage marker tite ‘when’. These are syntactic units prototypically comprising two clauses linked by the word tite and encoding the relation between the events expressed by these predicative units. Given the endangered status of the Koryak language, it seems imperative to document its grammar. Furthermore, the Koryak syntax is particularly intriguing from a typological perspective due to its polysynthetic nature and extensive use of non-finite verb forms with nominal c

Abstract:
AbstractA systematic analysis of larvae of 11 Nearctic species of Hygrotus Stephens was undertaken. The larvae are described and characterized; a key for their discrimination and illustrations of structural features of representatives of first- and third-instar larvae are provided. Many structural features, especially detailed variations in the chaetotaxy of cephalic capsule, head appendages, legs, last abdominal segment, and urogomphi, were found to be useful for systematic and phylogenetic comparisons. Based on 21 larval characters, a cladistic analysis of the species studied was developed.

Abstract:
We consider the adaptive finite element discretization of parameter estimation problems for nonlinear elliptic partial differential equations. The idea is to use a gradient method on the finite-dimensional parameter space for the minimization of the least-squares residual. Since the gradient involves solution of partial differential equations, it is not accesable, and is replaced by an approximation obtained by finite elements. This results into a perturbed gradient method. We use an (a posteriori) error estimator to control the accuracy of the gradient approximation and propose an algorithm,

In this work the methodology applied is based on Bayesian statistical methods inspired by Markov chain Monte Carlo sampling schemes, which simplifies the estimation and prediction process of the Markov switching model. The general objective of this study is to determine simultaneously: non-linearity, structural changes, asymmetries and outliers that are characteristics present in many financial series. The methodology is empirically illustrated using series that measure the annual growth rate of industrial production in the MERCOSUR countries. The sampling algorithm [1] is implemented to estim

AbstractThe onset of two-dimensional instabilities in the flow past two side-by-side circular cylinders is numerically investigated in the ranges $0.1\leq g\leq 3$ and $\mathit{Re}<100$, with $g$ being the non-dimensional gap spacing between the surfaces of the two cylinders and $\mathit{Re}$ the Reynolds number. A comprehensive, global stability analysis of the symmetric base flow is carried out, indicating that three harmonic modes and one steady antisymmetric mode become unstable at different values of $g$ and $\mathit{Re}$. These modes are known to promote distinct flow regimes at incre

The article deals with the problem of reducing the volume of tests of complex systems by using a priori data on the reliability of their elements. At the preliminary stage, the a priori distribution of the probability of failure of the system as a whole is determined. To do this, the results of element tests are processed and the parameters of the a posteriori probability distribution of element failure are determined based on the Bayesian procedure. The type of distribution law (beta distribution) is chosen from the conjugacy condition. Statistical modeling of the system failure probability o

Following the relative success of mixed models in the Large Eddy Simulation of complex turbulent flow configurations, an alternative formulation is suggested here which incorporates the concept of a local subgrid activity sensor. The general idea of mixed models is to combine the advantages of structural models (superior alignment properties), usually of the scale similarity type, and functional models (superior stability), usually of the eddy viscosity type, while avoiding their disadvantages. However, the key question is the mathematical realization of this combination, and the formulation i

Estimation of structure predictability for a particular protein is difficult. Many methods estimate it in an a posteriori system evaluating the final, native protein structure. Intelligent transportation systems can play a significant role in transportation security in addition to their traditional roles in transportation operations and management. A multidetector semiautomated vehicle surveillance framework is presented. When a vehicle of interest is wanted, this framework can be applied to reduce surveillance data sets and thus reduce time and labor. This system estimates the a posteriori probabilities that indic

A series of engineering accidents in recent years have caused people to worry about the safety of engineering structures. As buildings continue to age, engineering accidents are increasing, and it is necessary to monitor their health. Bayesian updating can determine the probability of damage to a structure by collecting a posteriori information, and can more accurately estimate the location and extent of damage, thereby predicting the risk of structural damage and repairing the damage in time, significantly improving engineering efficiency.
