Larbi, Besma. "Modélisation de structures antennaires VLF/LF." Nice, 2006. http://www.theses.fr/2006NICE4087.
Full textThe background of this study is the modeling of VLF/LF (Very Low frequency / Low Frequency) antenna structures. These antennas exhib the difficulty encountered by most of existing softwares when simulating large size systems (several hundreds of metres) with radiant cables have a radius not exceeding the dozen centimeters. A state of the art emphasizing the main methods used for the conception of VLF antennas and main tools of simulation confirms at first the choice of the Transmission Line Matrix (TLM) as the method of calculation. The second part presents the development of two thin-wires models to achieve the study of these antennas. The first model takes into account only the thin-wires directed according to the Cartesian axes whereas the second, more general, is spread to the case of thin-wires arbitrarily oriented in a cell. These models are validated by comparison with measurements and with results supplied by the Finite Difference in Time Domain method (FDTD). Some antennas VLF/LF among the most used are then modeled by studying the input impedance. The modeling of a T antenna allows us to validate our model. The simulation of an umbrella antenna allows to study the influence of oriented arms on the behavior of the input impedance. Finally, the influence of the ground is taken into account in the case of simple whip antenna

Full textThis thesis contains three different topics, all related to electronic structure problems. These three topics are presented in three independent parts. This thesis begins with a general introduction presenting the problematics and main results. The first part is concerned with Density Functional Theory (DFT), for spin-polarized models. This part is divided in two chapters. In the first of these chapters, the notion of N-representability is introduced and the characterizations of the N-representable sets of spin-density 2X2 matrices are given. In the second chapter, we show how to mathematically treat the Zeeman term in spin-polarized DFT models. The existence of minimizers that was proved in (Anantharaman, Cancès 2009) for spin-unpolarized Kohn-Sham models within the local density approximation is extended to spin-polarized models. The second part of this thesis focuses on the GW approximation. We first give a mathematical definition of the one-body Green's function, and explain why methods based on Green's functions can be used to calculate electronic-excited energies of molecules. One way to compute an approximation of the Green's function is through the self-consistent GW equations. The well-posedness of these equations is discussed, and proved in the GW0 case in a perturbative regime. This is joint work with Eric Cancès and Gabriel Stoltz. In the third and final part, numerical methods to compute band-diagrams of crystalline structure are analyzed. This part is divided in two chapters. In the first one, we consider a perfect crystal in the reduced Hartree-Fock approximation (see (Cances, Deleurence, Lewin 2008)). We prove that, if the crystal is an insulator or a semi-conductor, then supercell calculations converge to the exact solution with an exponential rate of convergence with respect to the size of the supercell. This is joint work with Salma Lahbabi. In the last chapter, we provide a new numerical method to calculate the band diagram of a crystal (which can be either an insulator or a conductor). This method, based on reduced basis techniques, speeds up traditional calculations. This is joint work with Eric Cancès, Virginie Ehrlacher, and Damiano Lombardi

Full text(The NaxCoO2 Cobalt oxides are compounds with many interesting properties. In this work we were particularly interested in two compounds of the family: firstly, the Na0. 3CoO2-1. 3H2O which presents a superconducting phase, secondly the x=0. 5 system which presents an insulator to metal phase transition at 52 K and a rich phase diagram as a function of temperature and magnetic field. Using ab initio calculations molecular spectroscopy methods applied on fragments embedded in an appropriate bath, we presented the determination of simple models as well as the evaluation of the effective interactions for these two interesting compounds. We also studied the cobalt 3d-shell splitting under the trigonal distortion observed in these compounds. This analysis led to reasons for which some results, like the ones issued of ligands field theory and some issued of density functional calculations, yield an orbital splitting in disagreement with experimental results

Full textThe Frequency range of Very Low Frequency/Low Frequency (VLF/LF, 3-300 kHz), is devoted to long distance transmissions. It is mainly used for military communications with Sub-Surface Ballistic Nuclear. The VLF/LF antennas in operation today has been designed several decades ago on the basis of empirical studies. Thus, in order to improve the performance of such antennas and to design new radiating structures, more accurate analysis using electromagnetic simulation tools are being investigated. The, the objective of this work is to develop a software simulation tool based on the TLM (Transmission Line Matrix) method to simulate realistic VLF/LF antennas in their environment (ground plane, surrounding infrastructure, isolators…). First, the huge multi-scale problem posed by VLF/LF antennas (wire’s diameter very small compared to the wavelength) is solved by an arbitrary oriented thin wire model incorporated in the Cartesian TLM mesh. In addition, to take into account soils with frequency dependent characteristics, it was necessary to develop a TLM numerical scheme for dispersive media. Finally, in order to simulate unbounded soils, it was necessary to extend the modelling of dispersive media in the absorbing boundaries conditions limiting the computational domain. Several simulations involving “umbrella” antennas with radial ground plane buried in different soils validate the proposed technique
