The number and the costs of business trips grow. The first fairs specialized in this subject have been established in Dusseldorf and Berlin. The last fair, the second Business Travel Show in Dusseldorf, was visited by 110 exhibitors and twice as big as the fair one year ago. Focus of the fair was the important aspect of possibilities of cost reductions. It is understandable that especially companies of intense traveling amounts want to save money, as the German market of business trips reaches an enormously high level of turnover mentioned earlier of private holiday trips. Carsharing and taxi are both shared or public car services in urban transportation systems, which means they have a lot in common. In particular, the narrow price gap between carsharing and taxi or public transit in China makes them similar. Trip characteristics analysis and market segmentation are needed, to investigate why and when travelers choose carsharing rather than taxi. In this study, vehicle GPS data and operation order data of a round-trip carsharing system in Hangzhou, China, is used to obtain information on 13,338 valid trips. The three essays that comprise this dissertation offer contributions to this area of research. The first essay explores the connection between the product market and the firm's financial decisions. I hypothesize that market power acts as a buffer against strategic action on the part of a competitor and the existence of market power allows the firm to hold more debt in its capital structure.
