Structured packings are widely used in distillation columns to separate various types of mixtures. These packings have an ordered structure, which ensures more uniform conditions for interaction of counter-current flows of liquid and vapor than in the random packings and have a small hydraulic resistance. Nevertheless, in columns with a diameter of more than 0.5 m, formation of large-scale non-uniformity in distribution of liquid and vapor flow parameters over the packing cross-section is observed. Abstract:
To assess the influence of line packing on the long term structural integrity of defected pipelines requires the availability of material property data that characterize the rate at which a flaw will extend under cyclic pressure conditions and the critical conditions at fracture, and a computational tool to perform the calculations needed to predict service lifetimes. The objective of the present work was to make both of these requirements available to gas industry engineers so that they could quickly and efficiently assess different line packing procedures in terms of their effects on the lif

Abstract:
Silylbenzoxazine derivatives with different bulky group on benzene ring are synthesized employing aminosilane as a primary amine. The silylbenzoxazine derivatives with more bulky group exhibit low ion extraction percentage due to the difficulty of molecular assembly formation as a result of the bulky group repulsion combining with the long alkyl chain of silane. Silica surface modified benzoxazines are successfully achieved via silylbenzoxazine derivatives and show the ion extraction property for various alkali and alkaline earth metal ions. When silane is coupled onto silica, the benzoxazine

Abstract:
Bio-based as well as biodegradable polymers are increasingly finding their way into applications such as food packaging. Here, certain biopolymers with a high degree of crystallinity may be of interest due to their superior barrier properties. Conversely, forming processes including high deformations often require an almost amorphous material state to avoid the brittle behavior associated with crystal structures. For some of those biopolymers, the narrow window in which they can be processed has delayed their potential use for packaging applications. In rigid packaging, two-step processes are

Abstract:
Thermoplastic starches (TPS) are important bio-based, biodegradable polymers used in flexible packaging. However, their mechanical properties, processability, and high hydrophilicity limit their applications. This study examines the effects of chemical modifications and mechanical reinforcements on TPS matrices. Combinations of native and acetylated TPS, reinforced with native (CNF) and acetylated cellulose nanofibers (CNFA) at 1%, 2%, 3%, and 10%, were analyzed. TPS films were prepared with CNF using compression molding, followed by structural, morphological, mechanical, and hygroscopic analy

Abstract:
Postharvest treatment of garden strawberries and the development of effective storage methods are crucial to increase the shelf life and preserve its quality until consumption. Although some reviews on certain treatment technologies have been published, we have not found studies that considered and compared common and advanced methods of storing garden strawberries. Therefore, the goal of this study is to review modern postharvest methods of strawberry storage (Fragaria × ananassa Duch). The review includes reports published in English and Russian in 2014—2024. Abstract:
Construction and concrete production are time-sensitive and fast-paced; as such, it is crucial to monitor the in-place strength development of concrete structures in real-time. Existing concrete strength testing methods, such as the traditional hydraulic compression method specified by ASTM C 39 and the maturity method specified by ASTM C 1074, are labor-intensive, time consuming, and difficult to implement in the field. INDOT’s previous research (SPR-4210) on the electromechanical impedance (EMI) technique has established its feasibility for monitoring in-situ concrete strength to determine t
