We present a tractable stochastic phase model of the temperature sensitivity of a mammalian cold receptor. Using simple linear dependencies of the amplitude, frequency, and bias on temperature, the model reproduces the experimentally observed transitions between bursting, beating, and stochastically phase-locked firing patterns. We analyze the model in the deterministic limit and predict, using a Strutt map, the number of spikes per burst for a given temperature. The inclusion of noise produces a variable number of spikes per burst and also extends the dynamic range of the neuron, both of whic

The strut-and-tie method (STM) is a simple and conservative method for designing concrete structures, especially deep beams. This method expresses complicated stress patterns as a simple truss or kinematic model made up of compression elements (struts), tension elements (ties), and the joints between elements (nodes). STM is based on lowerbound plasticity theorem, so using it properly will lead to a conservative design. Although the concepts of STM have been around in concrete design since the late 19th century, STM was first introduced in AASHTO LRFD in 1994 and ACI 318-02 in 2002. ACI 318 de

Abstract:
The southeast Ramparts River map area (NTS 106-G/SE) covers part of the northern Mackenzie Mountains and Peel Plateau, Northwest Territories. Bedrock exposures in the area include carbonate and siliciclastic strata ranging from Neoproterozoic (Tonian) to Cretaceous age. These strata were deformed in Cretaceous to Eocene time by folding and contractional faulting associated with Cordilleran deformation. Major structures include the Deadend fault, Tawu anticline, Stony anticline, and Shattered Range anticline. A set of minor pre-Cordilleran extensional faults is preserved within Neoproterozoic s

Abstract:
This Evidence Snapshot aims to summarise the current and emerging evidence regarding early detection of breast cancer in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and its impact on cancer stage at diagnosis and mortality. Gaps were found in the evidence regarding impact, but evidence was found regarding incidence, participation, and mortality. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women over 60 were found to have higher incidence of breast cancer than non-indigenous women, and overall Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women were found to have lower screening participation rates. Abstract:
The Inter-American Development Bank sponsored a workshop in Terezopolis, Brazil, in August 1995 to review current thinking among analysts and activists involved with programs for youth in Brazil. The Workshop brought together IDB staff working in the areas of Early Child Care and Development (ECCD), street-children, and other youth at risk, with over two dozen people knowledgeable about street-children. Based largely on what they learned in Terezopolis, this paper draws on lessons and proposals for IDB involvement with street-children in Brazil. The key lesson from the Terezopolis meeting and
