Abstract:
Student engagement during the development of a three-dimensional visual aid or teaching model can vary for a number of reasons. Some students report that they are not “creative” or “good at art,” often as an excuse to justify less professional outcomes. Student engagement can be low when using traditional methods to produce a model, but 3D printing gives both the teacher and the student new ways of experiencing classroom activities. The simple (and free) software offers students valuable skills, “professional” modeling results, a stronger understanding of the topic at hand, and new confidence.

Modern advances in neuroscience suggest learning occurs through three basic cognition patterns. Higher-level multimodal learning occurs when learning activities contain multiple cognition patterns. This case study details an application of these concepts where fine art, journaling, practicum experiences, and in-class processing were fused to create an active and participatory method of engaging social work students in critical thinking as related to differential impacts of clinical decision-making. The learning activities are described and multimodal learning is explained, along with the findings of a focus group used to assess student feedback. Student experiences and the potential adaptations of this approach are also addressed. The tentative findings of this case study indicate positive learning experiences and suggest a need for further research to explore the opportunities associated with the use of multimodal and art-infused learning techniques in social work courses.

Abstract:
The article substantiates the pedagogical conditions determined by the essence and content of musical performance activity of the future teachers of musical art. The effective pedagogical condition is the creation of art-creative environment, which integrates competence and personality oriented scientific approaches and is based on the principle of art-pedagogical dialogue. The scientific analysis of the investigated problem allowed determining the pedagogical conditions, which are determined by the essence and content of professional training, peculiarities of art education and allow effectively building the process of formation of musical and performing competence of future teachers of musical art. Such pedagogical condition is determined by the creation of art-creative environment on the basis of competence, personality-oriented and developing learning as pedagogically organized environment, which is conditioned by the specificity of professional activity of a future music art teacher characterized by the systemic interconnection of its objects, integrity, art and aesthetic functionality, provides the use of a set of pedagogical influences, which in turn contribute to the development of professionally significant personal qualities, the formation of artistic and communicative skills, the ability to communicate in a dialogue, creative activity, and to create opportunities for creative self-expression and self-realisation. Dialogue in music pedagogy is the essential basis of music education process, its methodological principle, as the music itself is an act of interpersonal communication. The art-pedagogical dialogue presupposes subject-subject interaction of all the participants of the art communication process, provides its spiritual and emotional richness, contributes to the formation of interpreting skills, development of creative activity of every student. Creating an artistic and creative environment is an effective pedagogical condition based on interdependent scientific approaches to learning, in particular, competence and personality-oriented. Dialogue principles of interaction between teacher and student involve the creation of a new type of communication – artistic and pedagogical dialogue, based on mutual understanding, exchange of views and judgments, evaluative approaches to artistic creativity. The result of such joint activities is the organization of independent creative and exploratory activities of students, knowledge, assimilation and acquisition of creative and executive experience, ability to independent creative activity, self-regulation, self-development, self-expression and self-realization in further professional and life activities.

Abstract:
The Makecourse-Art is a makerspace designed to promote undergraduate students’ aesthetic design skills as well as functional design skills using an interdisciplinary team approach at the University of South Florida. To overcome the unique challenges of the Makecourse (earlier version) and to maximize students’ design efforts working on an engineering project in the classroom, the Makecourse-Art incorporated a flipped classroom model utilizing two instructional methods with corresponding activities. First, the explicit form of instruction is delivered through asynchronous video lectures/tutorials, including topics such as Arduino programming, CAD modeling with the Autodesk Maya, Mudbox, and coding skills. Second, interactive team-based classroom activities are offered to students based on student-centered learning theories such as peer-assisted collaborative learning and problem-based learning. In this paper, we present the design case of the Makecourse-Art with detailed descriptions of the components, and explain the key design decisions, obstacles during the design process, and how the challenges were resolved. In addition, we provide step-by-step examples of students’ engineering design experiences with visual images.

Introduction: Gadgets are media that is inseparable from the lives of individuals today, including underage children. General gadgets are used as a means of entertainment and education. However, excessive use of gadgets has a psychological and mental impact that is bad for health, social interaction, and child development. Parents and teachers should be able to provide alternative activities that can make children switch focus from gadgets, one of which is through art therapy. Aims: to reduce the level of gadget dependency of primary school students in two schools, namely the SD Inpres Kampus Unhas and SD Inpres Kampus Unhas I, Makassar. Method used in this program includes Decoupage art training for teachers and students in two target schools; and a survey of student perceptions of Decoupage activities. The evaluation was carried out in two ways, namely by looking at the enthusiasm of the students when the training took place & asking participants to fill out the perception survey after attending the Decoupage training. Results: The activity was attended by 17 teachers as facilitators and 79 elementary students consisting of students in grades 4 - 6. Each Decoupage training session lasted for 2 hours. More than 80% of participants said this activity was fun and enjoyable and they would practice it again at home. Although the initial goal of this activity is to reduce student dependence on gadgets not yet seen in the majority of student answers, there are some students who have shown a tendency to put Decoupage as fun as playing gadget activities.

Abstract:
The aim of the article is to analyse the ways of using creative music-based activities in the educational process. The authors emphasize the marginal role that art plays in contemporary school, including music. At the same time, they emphasize the need to change this state of affairs, convincing about the huge, unused potential of using music-based activities to build relationships, improve mood, develop creativity and emotional and social competence. The use of musical activities on educational grounds may go beyond the typical activities known from music lessons. Building space for experiencing creative forms of contact with art, expression, spontaneous singing or improvisation, enabling multi-sensory art experience, can result in measurable benefits for both students and the teacher, being the answer to the challenges of modern education. An additional benefit of conducting such classes is the opportunity to observe the functioning of students, ways of coping with social situations, and assumed roles in the group. The article presents practical examples of the implementation of musical activities under the “ZA PROGIEM – wyprawy odkrywców project. The reactions of children participating in these activities testify to their great commitment, they also show that properly selected musical activities can have a positive impact on the child's behaviour in a very short time. Conclusions from the implementation of the activities under the project indicate that music-based – or more broadly art-based – activities, present so far, in the presented form, in pedagogy to a very limited extent, may prove to be an effective tool to support teachers’ work and student development.

Most recent work in suicidal ideation detection doesn't leverage contextual psychological cues. In this work, we hypothesize that the contextual information embedded in the form of historical activities of users and homophily networks formed between like-minded individuals in Twitter can substantially improve existing techniques for automated identification of suicidal tweets. This premise is extensively tested to yield state of the art results as compared to linguistic only models, and the state-of-the-art model.

Abstract:
Summary After the proclamation of the Republic of Latvia in 1918, Latvia experienced a rapid influx of youth into its capital city of Riga, looking to obtain education in universities. Students began to build their academic lives and student societies. In 1923, students of the Art Academy of Latvia founded the “Dzintarzeme” (“Amberland”) fraternity. The aim of “Dzintarzeme” was to unite nationally minded students of the Art Academy of Latvia and to promote the development of national art and self-education. Most “Dzintarzeme” members were faithful to the old masters and Latvian art. This phenomenon is significant, because “Dzintarzeme” members grew up with Latvian painting traditions, which are a remarkable heritage of interwar Latvia. In 1940, when Latvia was occupied by the Soviet Union, “Dzintarzeme” was banned. A part of “Dzintarzeme” members were deported, killed in war, went missing, or stayed in the Latvian SSR; the remaining chose exile. Although scattered throughout the United States of America, Canada, and Australia, some members were able to rebuild and sustain the fraternity’s life, gathering its members, organising trips and anniversary art exhibitions. The aim of this research is to reflect on “Dzintarzeme’s” activities in exile (1958–1987), focusing on the main factors of Latvian national art conservation policy: first, the ability of “Dzintarzeme’s” ideology to preserve the values of Latvian national art in an international environment, and second, the problem of generational change and the enrollment of young Latvian artists who continued to maintain “Dzintarzeme” values in exile.

Abstract:
Although numbers of older people are increasing, nursing students have negative attitudes towards older people and do not plan to care for them following graduation. Multiple strategies have been implemented to reverse students' attitudes with mixed results. The purpose of this pilot quasi-experimental study was to test a Creative-Bonding Intervention (CBI) with students implementing art activities with older people to promote students' willingness to take care of them. Using a self-transcendence conceptual framework, control () and experimental () student groups were pre- and post-tested on attitudes toward older people, self-transcendence, and willingness to serve. The CBI improved attitudes towards older people with negative attitudes significantly changed () but with no significant differences on self-transcendence and willingness to serve. However, willingness to serve results approached significance (). The willingness measure (one question) should be expanded. Curricula changes that incorporate creative activities such as the CBI with larger and equal numbers in student groups and longitudinal follow up to determine long-term results after graduation are suggested.

Abstract:
The paper describes an innovative form of organization of educational art-creative activity of students - art workshop. The author refers to the justification of the concept art workshop in the context of current ideas of the theory and practice art education. The contradiction between the content of student creativity in the XXI century and common in the practice of traditional forms of introducing them to the art may be withdrawn by the structuring activities in accordance with the phases of the creative process. Article submissions are a contribution to solving a larger problem of early diagnosis of giftedness, since supposedly this quality of the individual manifests itself more and more noticeable in terms of artistic and creative process. A definition of art workshop is given, its features are highlighted: polyart nature of childrens activities, productive and aimed at understanding the meanings of reality through creative experience; engaging of elements of expression from the arsenal of modern composers, artists and poets. The implication is that the teacher is able to perceive the environment with immediate disciples, directing, but without limiting the collective creativity. This work makes it possible to orient teachers of music, fine arts teachers and teachers of additional education, as well as students of a pedagogical high school to making children be creative in accordance with their interests, abilities and their outlook.

Abstract:
This paper explores the potential of Project-Based Learning (PBL) approach in a multidisciplinary art classroom involving STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) education. The PBL approach involves a dynamic classroom approach, which emphasises on long-term learning, interdisciplinary and student-centred art activities. This implementation would benefit the teaching strategies in art projects; helping students understand lessons, improving communication and soft skills, as well as enhancing leadership skills and creativity. However, there are some concerns related to the PBL approach: i) difficulties in finding appropriate teaching strategies, ii) choosing suitable projects, iii) selecting relevant measurement tools or assessing rubrics, and iv) developing learning content to suit the objective and the main purpose of the art curriculum. In identifying this approach’s potential, a study was carried out involving two art teachers in their respective classrooms. Data was collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis of their teaching strategies, which included three main phases of PBL implementation in creating art projects. The findings suggest that the PBL pedagogical design has the ability to improve teaching strategies and with potential to replace a traditional, teacher-led art classroom. The approach is effective in guiding teachers to manoeuvre an authentic art lesson while benefiting the students through emphasis on the artistic process of creating a STEAM project, while focusing on culminating the necessary art content through active collaboration, exploration of real-world challenges and curricular activities’ problem-solving. However, a number of challenges were identified, such as curriculum demand, learning content, teachers’ and students’ attitude, and access to instruments. Hence, a number of suggestions and recommendations are proposed to help resolve the challenges. The implications of the study on arts curriculum, school systems and other higher institutions are also discussed. Keywords: Project-Based Learning, Art Education, STEAM

Abstract:
In an ongoing search for new models to streamline college training and mentoring, a different training model was developed called the "Big Sister Model". This model was experienced for five years in the kindergarten-training program at the Kay College of education in Israel. Within this model, two female students are trained in each kindergarten: one in the third college year and the other in the second. Together with kindergarten staff, the two students plan the class curriculum and activities. A third-year student, who possess additional one year experience in practicing (veteran), has the opportunity to mentor a 2nd year student who also has the opportunity to observe the training of the third year and get more experience. This process provides a good staff relationship and develops interpersonal relations based on social and psychological elements, which points to a huge positive change in behavior, interpersonal relations and its motivations. In peer mentoring, the mentor accompanies, analyzes, supports, instructs, empowers and provides necessary knowledge in the mentoring process. It undergoes a process of empowerment, leadership, and success (Power et Al, 2011). This study is a continuous action research that aims at examining the effectiveness of the “Big sister” training model. When a third-year student mentors a second-year student, her personality will be accordingly empowered. Moreover, she is exposed to another year of the second year training program, once when she receives guidance in the second year and once more as a 3rd year student mentor. The second-year student enjoys continuous training throughout the day with a close colleague in addition to the training teacher and pedagogical mentor. In addition, she reveals the contents and skills of the third year allowing her ongoing internalization over time all third-year program. In the effectiveness of the training, we also sought to deeply examine the areas that this model promotes and strengthens as well as, how much the students perceive it as a training benefactor compared to the regular model in a control group.

Abstract:
Arguing for the positive disruptive nature of interruption, this paper concentrates on my current performative and pedagogic usage of interruption within my teaching as the means to achieve three aims: 1) develop aspects of practice discussed in my doctoral thesis ‘Tactics of Interruption: Provoking Participation in Performance Art’ (Campbell 2016) related to the focused usage of interruptive processes in contemporary art practice (Arlander 2009: 2) provide students with direct experience of how interruption may command immediate reaction and force collaborative means of working, i.e. collective survival tactics to deal with interruption; and 3) theorise, articulate and demonstrate how interruption relates to critical reflection (on the part of both student and teacher), extending the ideas of Maggi Savin-Baden (2007) to propose interruption as reflection. To achieve these aims, the paper discusses how I have implemented interruption into learning activity design and evidences how I have created activities that aim to help students understand collaborative learning in cross-disciplinary projects through an effective use of realia (interruption is part of real life). I discuss one first year teaching seminar at Loughborough University in March 2015 (and subsequent related iterations) combining performance, fine art and collaboration methodologies where students directly engaged in a range of activities not displaced from their own life experiences; there was heavy student engagement in digital technologies, and interruption. The main outcomes of the teaching session support and go beyond the aims by relating to: a) experiential learning related to the interplay between ‘collaboration’ and ‘interruption’; b) performative pedagogy and inclusion; c) the interplay between teaching, liveness and interruption; and d) performative pedagogy and the exchange of power relation.

Abstract:
Research into student experience in Higher Education has largely focused on students' role as learners. However, the student experience encompasses a much wider range of behaviours and beliefs than can be captured through a focus on teaching and learning alone. I report the findings of a research project which explored student experience in the music department of a British red-brick university. Music presents a particularly interesting case study given the presence of extra-curricular musical activities, the opportunity for social interaction between staff and students outside the formal context of the lecture or seminar room, and perceptions of Western art music as a form of ‘middle-class’ culture. Analysis of survey and interview data reveals the centrality of musical performance activities, and in particular the development of a performer identity, to students' experience of belonging and achievement. The influence of students' socio-economic background is also considered: social class was largely invisible to respondents within the departmental context, possibly because it is an invisible norm, within larger contemporary discourses in which social class is equated with financial difference rather than cultural difference. However, the research revealed an association between socio-economic background, term-time employment and academic achievement. The implications of these findings for teaching and learning in music in Higher Education are considered.

Abstract:
This article presents a case study for transitioning library-led open-educational resources (OER) initiatives away from labor-intensive activities to a model where library personnel focus on project management responsibilities. This shift from labour-intensive activities, such as workshops and training sessions, led to more collaborative partnerships with faculty and students to produce OER projects. In particular, we focus on labour implications for the various stakeholders involved and the sustainability of these initiatives. We describe several initiatives undertaken by the Ohio University Libraries to encourage open educational resource adoptions and projects, including a grant-funded initiative to provide support services for faculty creating OER. That funding, which was awarded to enhance undergraduate education, has been used to support the development of five OER projects that have directly involved students in the creation of those materials. We provide an overview of the various ways in which students have become involved in OER creation in partnership with faculty and librarians and discuss the impact these partnerships have had on student-faculty-librarian relationships and student engagement. Among these projects are an Hispanic linguistics open textbook created using only student-authored texts, student-generated test banks to accompany existing OER materials for a large-enrollment art history course, and several other projects in which hired student assistants are helping faculty to develop content for open textbooks. This article helps to address a gap in the literature by providing transparency regarding the personnel, costs, and workflow for Ohio University Libraries’ OER initiatives and addressing potential areas of concern surrounding student labour.

Abstract:
Teaching and Facilitation (PdPc) is a comprehensive approach of communication and receiving knowledge involving closely related teachers and students. In Malaysia, the Ministry of Education introduced the Kelas Kemahiran al-Quran (Quranic Art Class) in secondary schools with aim to produce knowledgeable students who understand and practice Quranic culture in daily life activities. However, if the elements of kemahiran insaniah (soft skills) are ignored in its approach, achieving this goal i.e. producing knowledgeable student can be difficult. One of the national goals is producing a balanced and holistic Muslim student who can accomplish his responsibilities as a human resource or human capital. The students are not only well-versed in the Quranic studies, but also possesses the characteristics of an ideal Muslim. Hence this paper aims to examine the application of the elements of soft skills in the Quranic Art Class (KKQ) course which has been introduced by the ministry to the National Religious Secondary School (SMKA) and Aliran Agama (Religious Stream) curriculum based on the CIPP assessment concept. In collecting data, this qualitative study employs document analysis, semi-structured but in-depth interviews, target group interviews as well as observational method. The preliminary findings show that only two elements of soft skills, professional ethics and moral values, are applied in the PdPc of Quranic Art Class in the secondary school.

Abstract:
Learning is important for the development of children with special needs. Slow learners, which are included in the special-needs category suffer from extreme timidity thus making them unable to actively involved in learning sessions. It is important for them to actively involve in the learning activities as it affects their academic achievement. This study involves two phases of activities which are; Phase 1, identification specification through literature review and expert interview, and Phase 2, model development. From the specification identification phase, suitable elements and components are identified, gathered, analysed and organised to prepare a comprehensive model. Therefore, a robotic-based model for slow learners’ learning is proposed. The model consists of the elements and the components that emphasize interactive student-centred learning. The model is derived from Care-Receiving Robot, Social Development Theory and Triple-D Model which consists of the teacher (More Knowledgable Other), the student, the robot (Care-Receiving Robot), learning by teaching to invoke student-centred learning, and evaluation (Triple-D Model).

Abstract:
The article substantiates the relevance of the introduction into the professional training of students of musicians on the principle of integration. The philosophical and pedagogical definition of such concepts as “spirituality”, “spiritual values” of a student-musician is given. The purpose of the article is to introduce the principle of integration into professional training, the impact of integration processes on the development of the spirituality of students-musicians. The goal and advantages of integration training as the basis for the spiritual development of a student-musician are determined. The humanistic paradigm of education (V. P. Andrushchenko, I. A. Zyazyun, A. M. Stepashko) is the methodological basis for solving the problems of the article. A synergetic approach to the processes of development and self-development of spirituality, the thinking of the student, his creative “Self” (V. G. Budanov, V. V. Vasilkov). One of the areas of development of the conceptual foundations of the moral development of student-musician is the introduction into the educational process of the principle of integration of knowledge about the spiritual sphere of man, spiritual values, as the foundations of human culture. It is impossible to give education on the principles of a particular science, regardless of other sciences. This integration is an organic combination of the information of other educational disciplines around the topic of music, musical interpretation, is one of the most promising innovations that imposes new conditions for the activities of teachers and students, has a great influence on the effectiveness of the perception of young musicians learning material. Integration processes in the professional training of young musicians have become more and more important in recent years as they are aimed at implementing new educational ideals — the formation of a holistic knowledge system about musical art and performing skills, the development of students’ creative musical abilities and spirituality. The essence of the principle of integration is based on scientifically grounded, organic interpenetration of different areas of knowledge: in the form of a set of associations, symbols, categories, etc., taking into account the psychological and pedagogical features of the personality of student-musician in order to optimize and increase the effectiveness of forming a coherent picture of the world, value orientations and phenomena of art within the same subject. Thus, the use of the principle of integration in educational activities (in reliance on the widespread use of subject relations) contributes to developing, humanistic learning, in turn, stimulating the spiritual development of a student-musician.

Abstract:
The value of incorporating arts-based approaches into health promotion programs has long been recognized as useful in affecting change. Such approaches have been used in many schools across Australia and have been found to promote general well-being and mental health. Despite these positive findings, few programs have used or evaluated an integrated arts-based approach to achieve health and well-being goals. This article presents the findings of an evaluation of an integrated arts-based program focused on creativity and improving well-being in students. The findings of this evaluation suggest that students who took part in the program were more interested in art and music at the end of the program and had gained an overall increase in awareness and mindfulness and a positivity toward leisure activities. This evaluation provides some evidence to suggest that this type of program is a promising way to promote well-being in schools.
