Abstract:
Uppsalahem AB is a municipally owned real estate concern that owns and administrates housing for nearly 30 000 people. The company puts a lot of effort into reducing the energy use of their housing stock. This project is a master’s thesis in the energy systems programme at Uppsala University, carried out in collaboration with Uppsalahem. The aim of this thesis is to provide energy saving measures for fourteen student housing buildings in Uppsala, Sweden. The buildings contain 467 flats with an area of 10499 m2. The buildings have been modelled using the computer software VIP-Energy and the results have been validated by comparison with the actual energy use. Different measures on the building envelope and ventilation system have been evaluated. Measures include refurbishment and/or exchange of the current windows, insulation of the buildings facades and cellar walls and upgrading the ventilation systems to recover heat. Alternatives for solar electricity and heat generation have also been presented. Results show that both solar heat and electricity can be economically viable. The viability of the solar electricity alternatives are dependent on governmental subsidies, the system being grid connected and the possibility to sell surplus energy. Furthermore the simulations of building envelope and ventilation measures show a technical possibility to reduce the total amount of purchased energy for the 14 buildings by 50 %. Window refurbishment also shows potential for economic viability, however; further studies will need to be carried out on maintenance costs and current window status.

I denna uppsats undersöktes ifall studenternas upplevda problem kring studentboende i Karlstad var ett samverkansproblem eller inte. Problemformulering lämnades öppen till en början för att sedan avgränsas till studentboendefrågan i och med diskussionerna under fokusgrupperna. Med denna avgränsning kunde samtliga aktörer identifieras lättare och valet av tillvägagångssätt föll på en kvalitativ metod med bland annat intervjuer med representanter hos respektive aktör.   Den referensram som har använts behandlar främst teoretiska resonemang och argument för samverkan. Detta på grund av utgångspunkten att de problematiska momenten i studenternas liv, vid sidan av själva studierna inte behandlas hos en enskild organisation utan involverar flera parter, och att det då är viktigt att det finns ett fungerande system för att dessa tjänster tillgodoser studenterna på bästa sätt. De involverade aktörerna vad gäller studentbostadsfrågan var Karlstad universitet, Karlstad Bostads AB, Studentkåren och Centrala studiestödsnämnden.   Den insamlade informationen från vår kvalitativa undersökning har analyserats utifrån den presenterade teorin för att komma till en slutsats. Denna slutsats blev att problemet ifråga inte beror på bristande samverkan mellan de olika aktörerna. Det finns en arena där den problematik som upplevs skulle kunna åtgärdas, men det fanns avgörande brister inom respektive organisation.

It is a basis of change that hopefully will open up Gavlegårdarnas eyes and minds for changes.</p><p>In this paper we come up with solutions for Gavlegårdarna to create a more satisfying student-housing situation, for the students on Högskolan i Gävle who are situated in Gavlegårdarnas student apartments.</p>

Arbetet avser att utforma ett förslag i form av ett mer miljömedvetet studentboende samtidigt som det ska vara attraktivt. För att alla lägenheterna ska vara tillgängliga för personer med funktionsförhinder har normal tillgänglighetsnivå använts.

Abstract:
<p>”Halmstads Fastighets AB” is a local real estate company investing in sustainable development. One problem though is that the domestic waste, particularly the source separation, at the three resident blocks for students’ isn´t working very well. This creates inconveniences for people and environment as well as decreasing the impression on the estates.</p><p>This project has had the ambition to improve the domestic waste and increase the amount of source separation at HFAB´s student hostels. This study is based upon earlier researches, observations, quantitative studies, inquiries made among the students living in those three areas taking part in the project and qualitative studies as well by interviewing some of those who took part in the quantitative studies. Finally a camera surveillance of the environmental disposal station at Gamletull has been installed as an attempt to improve the conditions in the area.</p><p>From a general point of view we have found out that most of the inhabitants at these three areas know how to handle their waste but few of them take their responsibility. Source separation serves as a good example, most respondents think it´s of importance to source separate and have got the knowledge how to separate the different groups of waste at the environmental disposal station. But the respondents are just good at sorting out material as glass, wrapping paper and newspapers while less than half of them sort out bulbs, energy saving bulbs, fluorescent tubes, metal packing and hard plastic packings.</p><p>This project aims at taking measures which will create a positive solution concerning waste disposal for the estate company. The information and communication between HFAB and the residents must be improved: </p><p>• Clear and distinct rules and directions.</p><p>• Each entrance and staircase is to have a host.</p><p>• New tenants get a personal reception and introduce them to the area.</p><p>• Information about how HFAB uses the rent revenues.</p><p>• The information should be given in English as well.</p><p>Among measures to be mentioned are camera surveillance to prevent permanently damage, maintenance work and to create an internet portal for student areas. </p><p>We are satisfied with the result this project has come to hand and look forward to contributing to some progress of this problematic issue.</p>

Abstract:
This work has emerged as a result of the lack of student housing in Uppsala. To saturate the housing market, other cities have resorted to temporary building permits and modular houses to establish housing in a fast and safe way. The aim of the work is to collect data in order to be able to draw a conclusion as to whether it is possible to use temporary building permits to establish housing for students in Uppsala. The conditions that were analyzed were: • Land, to investigate whether there are areas that the municipality can lease out for the temporary building permits. • Product, to see if there are any projects from other cities that can be applied to thesituation in Uppsala. • Demand, to see if there is a housing shortage and an interest in new housing. The purpose of this study is to investigate how temporary building permits can contribute to the housing market by enabling temporary housing solutions. The prerequisites required for this are that land is available for rent and that the product and demand exist. The work has led to a clear picture of the possibility of temporary building permits in Uppsala. The study shows examples from other cities of how temporary building permits can benefit the housing market and then compares with Uppsala's land use and target group. From the students’ side, there is an interest as there is a housing shortage and a desire for more central housing. There are also companies that have worked on similar projects in other cities. From the municipality's side, they do not work with temporary building permits for this matter, which complicates the possibility to establish temporary housing for students in Uppsala.

Abstract:
The aim with this thesis work is to examine a supplement building that fulfils the requirement forthe Boverket subsidy stöd för hyresbostäder och bostäder för studerande (2020). A proposal ofthe design of the supplement building on top of the already existing building in Flogsta, Uppsalais created and a profitability analysis for Uppsalahem is made.The three issues examined in the project are: How should this supplement building optimally be designed to meet the demands fromUppsalahem, the subsidy and Swedish building regulations? Is it estimated profitable to fulfil the increased energy requirement in the subsidy? Is it assessed profitable for Uppsalahem to go through with the project? The Supplement building is designed after the recommendations from Swedish Buildingregulations and Suitable International Standards, the ultimate floor plan resulted in 27apartments for students with 18 studio apartments, 1 two-room apartment and 8 three-roomapartments. The energy use calculations proved that the increased energy requirements could not bereached for the project and an increased subsidy could not be obtained. The profitability analysis resulted in an approved profit margin for the project. The subsidywithout the energy bonus resulted in a total subsidy of 11,2 million kr and a profit of 4,8 %.

Abstract:
Automobilpalatset i Jönköping, ritat av byggnadsingenjör Birger Lindström, uppfördes under åren 1929-1930 och var ett av de första parkeringshusen i Sverige. Förutom parkering fanns det utställningshallar och bilförsäljning, service och bensinstation-långt före bilismen var en del av folks vardag. Efter rivningshot byggnadsminnesmärktes huset år 2001.   Idag finns andra affärsverksamheter i gatuplan, resterande våningar står relativt tomma och mycket nedgånga. Automobilpalatset ägs av kommunen och det finns för närvarande ingen plan för förändring.   Jag vill i mitt förslag addera människan till Automobilpalatset. Stadsbilden och synen på bilen har förändrats sedan 1930. Det är inte rimligt i dagens samhälle att frånta en stadskärna den potential som Automobilpalatset besitter genom att förvanska byggnaden och låta den stå mestadels tom. Det känns inte heller längre modernt att parkera bilar i ett så kallat palats. Den unika arkitektur och kontext som man hittar i byggnaden borde istället till större del  öppnas upp för allmänheten. Att få ta del av dessa fantastiska rum skulle vara en upplevelse för besökaren och möjliggöra en mer levande attraktiv stadsbild.   Gatubilden under kvällen skulle förändras av att de stora fönstren äntligen fick lysa upp av de boende vilket skulle trygga platsen såväl som synliggöra huset på ett nytt sätt. Byggnadens komplexa uppbyggnad med split-level-plan skapar speciella situationer. Flexibilitet och robusthet liksom tydliga industrifunkisvärden i struktur, rymd och materialitet präglar huset. Utmaningen ligger bland annat i den djupa huskroppens stora mörka ytor och i det att väga mellan nytt och gammalt.<br>“Automobilpalatset” in Jönköping , designed by engineer Birger Lindstrom and built 1929-1930, was one of the first car parks in Sweden . In addition to parkingspace , there were showrooms and car sales , service and a petrol station - long before the car was a part of people's everyday lives. After threats of demolition the building was named a heritage, to be protected, in 2001.   Today, there is other business related spaces at street level , while the remaining floors are relatively empty and in very bad shape . Automobilpalatset is owned by the municipality and there is currently no plan for changes.   In my proposal I wan’t to add people to this place. Cityscape and the opinion of cars has changed since 1930. It is not reasonable in today's society to deprive a city center the potential that this buildning possesses by distorting the building and leaving it empty . It's no longer fashionable to park cars in a so-called palace. The unique architecture and context that one finds in the building ought instead to be opened up and public. To take part of this amazing place would be an experience for the visitor and allow for a more vibrant attractive cityscape. The large windows, finally lit up by residents, would change how the building is looked up-on. The building complex structures with a split-level-plan creates special situations. Flexibility and robustness as well as the industrustrial modernist values ​​in structure , space and materiality characterizes the house. The challenge in restoring it lies in the deep volume and large dark surfaces, and in balancing between new and old.
