Abstract:
This paper is a rhetorical study of a single verse of the Qur’an. Which is the verse of debts. It is the longest verse of the Qura'n. It contains many splendid rules and great values. that this verse is one of the most Comprehensive verses of the Qur’an. It makes the life of people more organised and ensures a good destiny in the hereafter. Allah exalted has emphasised good treatment which is the main aspect of Islam and its pillar. He overstated the recommendation to maintain halal money and the methods which need to be taken to keep it safe from being destroyed. Therefore, it includes forms of assertions. The paper shows that this verse contains more than twenty rhetorical methods as follows:

 1. In intents and purposes for which the predicate is delivered, one example is included.
 2. In how the speaker delivers the predicate to the addressee it included six examples.
 3. In construction and its divisions it has more than ten examples.
 4. It includes six examples of Commemoration.
 5. It Includes nine examples of deletion.
 6. It Includes one example of fronting.
 7. It includes one example of masquerade
 8. It Includes one example of restriction.
 9. It Includes few examples of changing the topic.
 10. It Includes one example of replacing the implicit with the explicit.
 11. It Includes five examples of brevity.
 12. It Includes few examples of redundancy.
 13. It Includes one example of simile.
 14. It Includes two examples of allegory.
 15. It Includes one example of metaphor.
 16. It Includes one example of Metonymy.
 17. It Includes two examples of antithesis.
 18. It Includes one example of combining two things onwards in one thing.
 19. It Includes one example of good conclusion.
 20. It Includes one example of rhymed proses.
 21. It Includes six examples of paronomasia.

All these rhetorical aspects indicate the inimitability of the Quran and it is from Allah which no other speeches can be equal to it due to its altitude, perfection and beauty.

Abstract:
AbstractDesign fixation is a factor that negatively influences the generation of novel design concepts (Jansson & Smith, 1991). When designers fixate, they tend to reproduce example features or features from their initial ideas. In order to mitigate design fixation, it is crucial to identify the factors that influence the extent of design fixation. This paper investigates two such factors: the modality of examples and the familiarity of designers with the example features. To investigate this, an experiment is conducted with mechanical engineering students who were asked to generate ideas to solve a peanut sheller design problem. The students generated ideas in five different experimental conditions: control, where no example was given; the first example given in a sketch form; the first example given as a nonfunctional prototype; a second example in sketch form; and the second example in a working prototype form. The first example was a nonfeasible solution, but it contained several features familiar to the participants. The second example was a feasible solution, but it contained less familiar features. In order to understand the extent of fixation triggered by the examples, three metrics were utilized to compare across the experimental conditions: the quantity of nonredundant ideas generated by the participants, the presence of example features in their solutions, and their fixation to the example's energy source. The results showed that in the case of the familiar example, the example modality did play an important role in the extent of design fixation. Across the examples, it was found that the first example containing several familiar features caused more fixation than the second one. Overall, this paper shows that the modality in which the example was communicated and the presence of familiar features in an example influenced the fixation caused by those examples.

Margulieux, Lauren Elizabeth. "Subgoal labeled instructional text and worked examples in STEM education." Thesis, Georgia Institute of Technology, 2014. http://hdl.handle.net/1853/51782.

Abstract:
In science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education, problem solving tends to be highly procedural, and these procedures are typically taught with general instructional text and specific worked examples. Instructional text broadly defines procedures for problem solving, and worked examples demonstrate how to apply procedures to problems. Subgoal labels have been used to help students understand the structure of worked examples, and this feature has increased problem solving performance. The present study explored using subgoal labels in instructional text to further improve learners’ problem solving performance. A factorial design examined the efficacy of subgoal labeled instructional text and worked examples for programming education. The results of the present study suggest that subgoal labels in instructional text can help learners in a different way than subgoal labels in worked examples. Subgoal labels in text helped the learner articulate the general procedure better, and subgoal labels in the example helped the learner apply those procedures better. When solving novel problems, learners who received subgoal labels in both the text and example performed better than those who received subgoal labels in only the example. Learners who received subgoal labels in only the example performed better than those who received subgoal labels in only the text and those who did not receive subgoal labels at all. The present study indicates that subgoal labeled instructional text can improve novices’ problem solving performance in programming, but subgoal labels must appear in both the text and example.

Abstract:
The aim of the thesis is to gain knowledge concerning what pupils aged 8 and 9 need to learn to become familiar with negative numbers. The framework used in this research, variation theory, impliesthat students' problems in learning what was intended may have to do with the fact that some critical aspects of the studied object have not yet been discerned by the student. To get the pupils to understand the idea behind each critical aspect, carefully constructed examples were used. According to variation theory it is necessary to experience differences before you experience similarities. To answer the research question data was collected by using the learning study model. It is characterized by an iterative design where I as a researcher collaborate with teachers to try to find and orchestrate the critical aspects. The method is interventionist, which means that interventions are done in teaching. In the learning study I have cooperated with two primary school teachers and 64 pupils in four different classes. The data consists of video-recordings of lessons, pre- and posttests, interviews with pupils and notes from the meetings of the learning study group. When planning lessons as well as analyzing data, concepts relating to the theory of variation have been used as analytical tools. This thesis contributes to research by investigating in detail what aspects students need to differentiate in order to become familiar with negative numbers. The results show that the pupils needed not only to discern, but also to differentiate three different critical aspects: To differentiate the values of two negative numbers. To differentiate the function of the minuend versus the function of the subtrahend in a subtraction. To differentiate the minus sign for negative numbers versus the minus sign for subtraction.

Moore, John M. "Using human examples to teach Mendelian genetic concepts : assessing acquisition and retention." Virtual Press, 1989. http://liblink.bsu.edu/uhtbin/catkey/558371.

Full text
Abstract:
This study was designed to investigate whether or not Mendelian genetics instruction using human examples, in contrast to traditional genetic examples, would facilitate the acquisition and retention of four genetic concepts: (1) complete dominance, (2) incomplete dominance, (3) law of segregation, and (4) law of independent assortment. A pre/post/delayed-posttest was designed to assess the acquisition and retention of the concepts and the formation of misconceptions of genetic concepts. A written Piagetian Task Instrument (PTI) was employed to detect cognitive growth toward the formal operational level of thought.Eighty ninth-grade biology students from Marion High School, Marion, Indiana were used in the study. The students were assigned randomly to two control and two treatment groups. Students in the control groups. were instructed in Mendelian genetics using traditional genetic examples to explain the concepts. Students in the treatment groups were instructed in Mendelian genetics using only human examples to explain the concepts.Students who were instructed in Mendelian genetics using human examples acquired and retained those concepts better and acquired fewer misconceptions than students who were instructed using traditional examples.Students who were instructed in Mendelian genetics using human examples did not differ from those instructed via traditional examples with respect to their movement from concrete operational toward formal operational thought.<br>Department of Biology

Bowdery, Francis T. "Music for player piano : a study of seventeen selected examples." Thesis, Loughborough University, 1995. https://dspace.lboro.ac.uk/2134/6989.

Full text
Abstract:
From virtually the beginning of the twentieth century, musicians were sufficiently intrigued by the possibilities of the player piano to compose and specially arrange music for it. The aesthetic of 'automatic music' reaches back at least as far as JS Bach and forward to Conlon Nancarrow and Georgy Ligeti, as well as in developments in electronic popular and art music. This thesis makes a case study of seventeen compositions, arrangements and fragments from the period of the instrument's greatest commercial success, 1900-1927, including music by Bax, Busoni, Casella, Hans Haass, Hindemith and Stravinsky, and seeks to relate them to the broader range both of player piano compositions and music for other automatic musical instruments, as well as the stylistic developments of the time. A number of items are in score for the first time, and an attempt at a complete listing of the repertory for player piano is included.

Russell, Diane. "The effects of prototypic examples and video replay on adolescent girls' acquisition of basic field hockey skills." Thesis, University of British Columbia, 1991. http://hdl.handle.net/2429/30156.

Full text
Abstract:
This study examined and compared the effect of two feedback methodologies (visual and traditional) on the degree of skill acquisition for the two field hockey skills, Indian dribble and moving drive. Forty-seven female physical education students, ages 12 to 14 years, practised two basic field hockey skills for four consecutive classes. The experimental group was presented with a prototypic example, video feedback (VF), and checklist analysis while the control group was taught by traditional feedback methods which included teacher and student demonstrations in conjunction with verbal feedback. Performance evaluations were made by comparing scores on the Russell (1989) Field Hockey Checklist of Critical Behaviours. Motivational and attitudinal aspects were compared by the use of a Learning Perceptions Questionnaire. An ANCOVA of the Indian dribble performances did not reveal a significant difference between the methodologies. Analysis of the degrees of improvement was made using two comparisons (a) percentage improvement calculations revealed a mean of 27% for the control group and 31% for the experimental group, (b) the Hale and Hale (1972) procedure indicated means of 7.42 and 7.24 for the control and experimental groups, respectively. The ANCOVA of the moving drive indicated a significant difference (F=5.75, p<.05) between the methodologies in favor of the experimental group. The improvement comparisons revealed (a) mean scores of 10% for the control group and 32% for the experimental group, (b) the Hale and Hale procedure results revealed mean scores of 5 and 13 for the control and experimental groups, respectively. The analysis of the Learning Perceptions Questionnaire revealed that the subjects in the experimental group perceived that the checklists helped them to focus on the correct and incorrect behaviours and that watching the prototypic example in conjunction with personal performances helped to improve their skill level, thus providing a motivational element.<br>Education, Faculty of<br>Curriculum and Pedagogy (EDCP), Department of<br>Graduate

Abstract:
<p>This thesis will give an introduction to the concepts of cellular automata and higher order cellular automata, and go through several examples of both. Cellular automata are discrete systems of cells in an n-dimensional grid. The cells interact with each other through the use of a rule depending only on local characteristics, which lead to some global behaviour. Higher order cellular automata are hierarchical structures of cellular automata with added possibilities for dynamic local interaction. We first give an introduction for non-mathematicians. A mathematical definition of cellular automata follows, and we illustrate the many possibilities with a few examples. Higher order cellular automata are introduced and defined, and we look at the consequences higher order cellular automata has on optimization of computer implementations. Finally we apply higher order structures to some of the examples, and study the effects.</p>

Kelly, Edward Joseph. "Transformation in meaning-making : selected examples from Warren Buffett's life, a mixed methods study." Thesis, Lancaster University, 2011. http://ethos.bl.uk/OrderDetails.do?uin=uk.bl.ethos.553713.

Full text
Abstract:
The primary research question addressed in this study is: has Warren Buffett's 'meaning-making-in-action' changed over his life, as predicted by developmental theory? Meaning-making is defined within Constructive-developmental theory (Cook- Greuter, 1999,2005; Kegan, 1980,1994; Loevinger, 1976; McCauley et at., 2006; Torbert & Ass., 2004; Wilber, 2000) to mean the internal organising system individuals use to make sense of their experience. The question highlights the importance of vertical development which for Jean Piaget (1954) "was not the gradual accumulation of new knowledge or experience but a process of moving through qualitatively distinct stages of growth, a process that transforms knowledge itself" (McCauley et al., 2006, p. 635). Applying a constructive-developmental framework this study tracks the transformation in Buffett's meaning-making-inaction across thirty-two representative examples from his life that are then compared to one or more of seven developmental action-logics in developmental theory (Cook-Greuter, 2005; Fisher, Rooke & Torbert, 2003; Torbert & Ass., 2004). The study concludes that Buffett's meaning-making-in-action has transformed over his life and in a sequence predicted by the action-logics in developmental theory. This is reflected in a Spearman correlation coefficient of p. 93 which indicates a strong relationship between the predicted order of development and the actual order. While the principle contribution from this study is a methodological one within the field of developmental theory, the research also makes an original contribution to our understanding of the importance of Buffett's development to his effectiveness as 2 a leader. By implication developmental theory has important things to say about how others may develop their leadership as well. Next steps in this research include simplifying the application of the method.

Abstract:
Temporal plan preferences are natural and important in a variety of applications. Yet users often find it difficult to formalize their preferences. Here we explore the possibility to learn preferences from example plans. Focusing on one preference at a time, the user is asked to annotate examples as good/bad. We leverage prior work on LTL formula learning to extract a preference from these examples. We conduct an empirical study of this approach in an oversubscription planning context, using hidden target formulas to emulate the user preferences. We explore four different methods for generating example plans, and evaluate performance as a function of domain and formula size. Overall, we find that reasonable-size target formulas can often be learned effectively.

Abstract:
The use of examples in engineering curricula is a commonly used means to teach engineering students new concepts and ideas; these examples play an important role in teaching engineering students how to become technically competent engineers and designers. Being able to learn from examples and avoid fixation to those examples is an important task in that process. Design fixation is a major constraint in design thinking as it limits the solution space where designers search for their ideas. The experiments described in this paper aims to investigate how students fixate to different types of representations. A pilot study comparing sketched and physical representations of examples shows that students are less likely to fixate to the design specifications of examples provided in the form of physical model, this suggests that they are able to better understand the design limitations of examples presented in the form of a physical model. Based on the preliminary results from this pilot experiment, the framework for a follow-up experiment is developed. This second experiment will explore the trend observed in the pilot study further and will compare how students fixate on and derive information between sketched and computer-aided design representations.

Reisner, Jodie. Adaptation Workbook Case Study: Kettner Farm, Mulshoe, TX. Climate Hub, 2019. http://dx.doi.org/10.32747/2019.6875755.ch.

Full text
Abstract:
The Adaptation Resources for Agriculture Workbook was jointly developed by USDA Climate Hubs and NRCS to support producers, service providers, and educators to manage climate change. The workbook helps producers consider both short-term adaptive management actions (&lt;5 yrs) and long-range strategic plans (5 to 20 yrs, subject to farm type). This workbook pro-motes adaptation through multiple resources including a “menu” of adaptation strategies/approaches and example tactics for cropping and forages, confined livestock, grazing, orchards and small fruit and vegetable production systems. Recent efforts by USDA Climate Hub NRCS Liaisons work to increase the number of examples, and have been documented as Case Studies. These Case Studies are of producers utilizing the 5-step process in the workbook to document their management choices to ameliorate climate change impacts to their operations.

Dempsey, Terri L. Handling the Qualitative Side of Mixed Methods Research: A Multisite, Team-Based High School Education Evaluation Study. RTI Press, 2018. http://dx.doi.org/10.3768/rtipress.2018.mr.0039.1809.

Full text
Abstract:
Attention to mixed methods studies research has increased in recent years, particularly among funding agencies that increasingly require a mixed methods approach for program evaluation. At the same time, researchers operating within large-scale, rapid-turnaround research projects are faced with the reality that collection and analysis of large amounts of qualitative data typically require an intense amount of project resources and time. However, practical examples of efficiently collecting and handling high-quality qualitative data within these studies are limited. More examples are also needed of procedures for integrating the qualitative and quantitative strands of a study from design to interpretation in ways that can facilitate efficiencies. This paper provides a detailed description of the strategies used to collect and analyze qualitative data in what the research team believed to be an efficient, high-quality way within a team-based mixed methods evaluation study of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) high-school education. The research team employed an iterative approach to qualitative data analysis that combined matrix analyses with Microsoft Excel and the qualitative data analysis software program ATLAS.ti. This approach yielded a number of practical benefits. Selected preliminary results illustrate how this approach can simplify analysis and facilitate data integration.

Raei, Lami. KHF Entrepreneurship Support and the Impact of COVID-19 on Jordanian Entrepreneurs. Oxfam IBIS, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.21201/2021.7895.

Full text
Abstract:
The King Hussein Foundation (KHF) partners with Oxfam in the Youth Participation and Employment programme (YPE) to promote entrepreneurship through supporting youth to engage in business start-ups and scale-ups. KHF projects support community-based organizations (CBOs) in establishing revolving funds, training CBOs in microfinance management and building the capacity of potential entrepreneurs. Apprenticeships and shadowing are two examples of popular approaches to facilitating entrepreneurship and self-employment. During the COVID-19 crisis, KHF has continued the implementation of activities virtually. This case study presents examples of young people utilizing financial support, reaching out to new clients using ICT, and eventually exploring ways to mitigate the impacts of COVID-19.

Full text
Abstract:
This issue of Frontiers of CLTS shares and builds on the learning from a desk study that explores examples of men’s and boys’ behaviours and gender roles in sanitation and hygiene (S&amp;H). Of particular interest is the extent to which the engagement of men and boys in S&amp;H processes is leading to sustainable and transformative change in households and communities and reducing gendered inequality. The review focuses on men and boys: how to engage them (or not), how to mobilise them as allies in the transformation of S&amp;H outcomes and the problems they contribute to and experience.
