Abstract:
A long calibration procedure limits the use in practice for a motor imagery (MI)-based brain-computer interface (BCI) system. To tackle this problem, we consider supervised and semisupervised transfer learning. However, it is a challenge for them to cope with high intersession/subject variability in the MI electroencephalographic (EEG) signals. Based on the framework of unsupervised manifold embedded knowledge transfer (MEKT), we propose a supervised MEKT algorithm (sMEKT) and a semisupervised MEKT algorithm (ssMEKT), respectively. sMEKT only has limited labelled samples from a target subject

Abstract:
The desire to avoid unnecessary costs inherent in the traditional methodology of creating relational databases, not only at the stages of conceptual and logical design, but also at the stage of physical design, has actualized the task of developing a database schema that is invariant to subject domains. The main developed and distinguishing elements of this scheme are as follows: composition, structure of the basic relations; implementation of integrity constraints; means ensuring the database security.

Abstract:
This study examined what kinds of groups can be identified according to students’ task-values across four subject domains (languages, math and science, social sciences, practical subjects) and the related gender differences using a person-centered approach. Latent class analysis was applied to classify 638 students (mean age = 15) into four task-value groups, namely, all-subjects (55%), practical-subjects (5.7%), high-math-and-science (20.2%) and low-math-and-science (19.1%) groups. Significant gender differences were found: boys dominated the high-math-and-science group (boys = 98%), while gi

Monoclinic ferroelectric phases are prevalent in various functional materials, most notably mixed-ion perovskite oxides. These phases can manifest as regularly ordered long-range crystallographic structures or as macroscopic averages of the self-assembled tetragonal/rhombohedral nanodomains. The structural and physical properties of monoclinic ferroelectric phases play a pivotal role when exploring the interplay between ferroelectricity, ferroelasticity, giant piezoelectricity and multiferroicity in crystals, ceramics and epitaxial thin films. Background: Domain adaptation (DA) techniques have emerged as a pivotal strategy in addressing the challenges of cross-subject classification. However, traditional DA methods are inherently limited by the assumption of a homogeneous space, requiring that the source and target domains share identical feature dimensions and label sets, which is often impractical in real-world applications. Therefore, effectively addressing the challenge of EEG classification under heterogeneous spaces has emerged as a crucial research topic. In the present paper we provide an account of VSO in Greek and its (relative) absence in Italian, despite the fact that both languages allow for postverbal subjects. We argue that this parametric difference reduces to different lexicalisation options regarding the D-system of the two grammars. We assume that the clause structure divides into three basic domains (V, T, and C), and that nominal (clitic) positions are available in each of these domains, which, as we argue, can be lexicalised not only by clitics but also by full DPs. On this basis, we argue that the subject and object DP in Greek

Brain–computer interfaces (BCI) are an effective tool for recognizing motor imagery and have been widely applied in the motor control and assistive operation domains. However, traditional intention-recognition methods face several challenges, such as prolonged training times and limited cross-subject adaptability, which restrict their practical application. This paper proposes an innovative method that combines a lightweight convolutional neural network (CNN) with domain adaptation. This paper explores seemingly puzzling subject-verb agreement patterns with Finnish numeral noun constructions (NNCs, e.g. three birds) in subject position, which can occur with singular or plural verbs. This alternation is not predicted by current theories. Building on properties of Finnish independent of NNCs, I argue that the Finnish data can be reconciled with prior analyses if we analyze verb number marking as dependent on referential properties of the NNC. I suggest that NNCs with singular verbs do not involve agreement, but rather a default verb form that surfaces in contexts involving

The present paper discusses how scholarly areas are subject to different kinds of external pressure resulting in both concept and term changes. When representing domains in knowledge bases, a central purpose will be to capture the conceptual structures of the domains together with the terminology denoting the concepts. This pursuit is fundamentally challenged by the fact that domains are dynamic and develop over time. In the paper, this challenge is discussed in view of examples from three different domains, i.e., Organisational Behaviour, Financial Accounting and Crisis, Restructuring and Gro

One of the objectives of this paper is to establish the exact controllability for wave-type evolution equations on non-convex and/or cracked domains with non-concurrent support crack lines. Admittedly, we know that according to the work of Grisvard P., in domains with corners or cracks, the formulas of integrations by parts are subject to geometric conditions: the lines of cracks or their supports must be concurrent. In this paper, we have established the exact controllability for the wave equation in a domain with cracks without these additional geometric conditions.

Functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) is a non-intrusive way to measure cortical hemodynamic activity. Predicting cognitive workload from fNIRS data has taken on a diffuse set of methods. To be applicable in real-world settings, models are needed, which can perform well across different sessions as well as different subjects. However, most existing works assume that training and testing data come from the same subjects and/or cannot generalize well across never-before-seen subjects. Additional challenges imposed by fNIRS data include not only the high variations in inter-subject fNIRS
