Abstract:
The potential for psychological transformation is fundamental to psychoanalytic theory and therapy and to Jewish belief and practice. While Freud's rejection of religious experience as a manifestation of personal and cultural pathology had a long-reaching effect in the history of psychoanalysis, the theoretical extensions and advances of some of his followers have made it possible to view religious experience through a different lens. The author explores the convergence of Jewish ideas about the process of repentance (teshuvah) and the integration of psychic polarities conceptualized in the ps

Taking Faulkner’s short story “A Rose for Emily” as an example, this paper aims to explore the grotesque in American Southern Gothic Fiction in general, Faulkner's works in particular. Compared with British and the 19th-century American [northern] Gothic literature, the southern Gothic by Faulkner and others reflects more reality and digs deeper into the humanity in the specific social environment. The grotesque in “A Rose for Emily” is fully illustrated from various aspects such as the arrangements of the setting atmosphere, characterization, the sublimation of the theme of death, the wording

Abstract Perhaps the key term in musar writing is yir’ah. In early modern musar texts, usually incorporating kabbalistic discourse, this term is rendered as ‘fear.’ A striking exception is R. Moshe Ḥayyim Luzzatto’s Mesillat Yesharim, arguably one of the canonical texts of Jewish modernity. A close reading of the chapters devoted to yir’ah reveals that Luzzatto frames this term as ‘awe,’ moving away from the discourse on punishment and hell typical of early modern musar. An examination of the psychology behind this move shows that Luzzatto associates fear with the lower instinct of self-preser

I would however, redefine the concept of feminine sublimation as a theoretical trope to articulate the possible emergence of female subjectivity within specific power relations.
