Previous research suggests that the temporal pattern of dissimilar sounds may be a basis for confusion. To extend this research, the present study used complex sounds formed by simultaneously playing components drawn from four sound categories. Four temporal patterns, determined by sound duration and duty cycle were also used, producing a total of 16 basic components. The density (i.e., number of components played simultaneously) ranged from one to four. Subjects heard a sequence of two complex sounds and judged whether they were same of different. Historic buildings that have survived to the present day have been subject to maintenance, repair, and overhaul. Repair work is being carried out so that it can be enjoyed by future generations. However, there have been changes in the construction technology: some construction products have been discontinued and replaced with others of different quality parameters, lower prices, etc. It is necessary to use substitute products during construction work—that is, replacement products that are shaped after the original. Therefore, there is a problem of selecting the best possible substitute materia

AbstractThe squiral inflation rule is equivalent to a bijective block substitution rule and leads to an interesting lattice dynamical system under the action of${ \mathbb{Z} }^{2} $. In particular, its balanced version has purely singular continuous diffraction. The dynamical spectrum is of mixed type, with pure point and singular continuous components. We present a constructive proof that admits a generalization to bijective block substitutions of trivial height on${ \mathbb{Z} }^{d} $.

This chapter examines the phonological rule of nasal substitution in Tagalog, specifically its rate of application in different constructions. Nasal substitution can occur whenever a prefix that ends in /ŋ/ attaches to a stem beginning with an obstruent, as in /maŋ + bigáj/ → [mamigáj] ‘to distribute’. Different prefixes trigger nasal substitution at different rates. This is similar to cases in which word-internal syntactic structure determines how and whether a phonological rule applies (e.g. Newell and Piggott 2014), but different because none of these words’ syntactic structure absolutely p

It is shown that distortion of a flowing fluid can be split into elongational distortion and angular distortion or shear strain. For a Newtonian fluid, the normal and shear stres

AbstractWe propose a new account of linguistic content that reconciles content-pluralism with compositionality. This is achieved by integrating truth-conditional content and attitude report content into a single notion of content. A parametrized version of this notion (with parameters for agents, times, and information states) serves as input to the compositional semantic machinery. By supplying different parameter-values to the parametrized contents of their complements, different verbs select for different components of the complement’s integrated content. The resulting account explains the different substitution properties of extensional and attitude constructions and captures the role of agents’ epistemicperspective in the determination of attitude content. The account improves upon other accounts of truth-conditional and attitude content (esp. two-dimensional semantics) by interpreting different occurrences of an expression—in extensional and in attitude embeddings—as objects of the same semantic type, and by explaining the substitution-resistance of attitudinal embeddings of extensional constructions.

Abstract:
The physical properties of surfactant were identified in the early 1950s from research on warfare chemicals by Pattle in Britain and by Radford and Clements in the US. The causal relationship between respiratory distress syndrome and surfactant deficiency was established in Boston by Avery and Mead in 1959. The Australian obstetrician Liggins induced lung maturity with glucocorticoids in 1972, but his discovery was not fully accepted for another 20 years. When the major surfactant compound was identified as dipalmitoyl-phosphatidylcholine, this substance was nebulized with little effect and it became clear that there were other components of natural surfactant required besides phospholipids. A century of basic research was rewarded when Fujiwara introduced bovine surfactant substitution in Japan in 1980 to treat and prevent respiratory distress syndrome in preterm infants. Surfactant substitution greatly alleviated respiratory distress syndrome and increased the preterm infant’s chance of survival. In addition, it has set high scientific standards for the introduction of new therapies for neonates and made the randomized multicentre trial the favoured tool for clinical innovations.

Abstract:
It has been found that the corrosion resistance of Fe-based amorphous-metal alloys can be improved dramatically through additions of chromium, molybdenum, and tungsten. The addition of yttrium lowers the critical cooling rate of these materials, but complicates the gas atomization process. High concentrations of boron enable these alloys to serve as effective neutron absorbers for criticality control applications. Since these alloys are Fe-based, any substitution of these for Ni-based alloys in the storage of spent nuclear fuel (SNF) applications could result in significant cost savings. Large

Abstract:
Genetically abnormal, dysfunctional fibrinogen variants may be used as unique models for studies of structure-function relationships both in vitro and in vivo. Out of the over kO so far structurally elucidated abnormal fibrinogens only 4 have an amino acid substitution in the Bg-chain. These variants are named Fibrinogen Pontoise, Nev York I, Christchurch II and Seattle I.Fibrinogens Seattle I and Christchurch II are slow-clotting fibrinogens which on thrombin-treatment release only half the normal amount of fibrinopeptide B and therefore were expected to contain an amino acid substitution clo
