The aim of this work was to develop improved control strategies for powdery scab based on a better understanding of the biology of the causal organism, the fungus Spongospora subterranea. A muddy-sand site in the North Sea was studied to identify the role of the benthic macrofauna in the resuspension of sediment. The macrobenthic community contained species capable of significant bioturbation. In particular, the presence and the temporal occurrence of the brittle star Amphiura filiformis was correlated with seasonal geotechnical and geophysical properties of the seabed. Five experiments were conducted to investigate the effect of drought and high temperature stress on the growth and development of bambara groundnut (Vigna subterranea (L.) Verdc). Three glasshouse experiments were conducted at the University of Nottingham, Sutton Bonington Campus, UK, and two field experiments were conducted at the Botswana College of Agriculture, Gaborone, Botswana. A referida abordagem estocástica se caracteriza pela representação da variabilidade espacial e das incertezas associadas à condutividade hidráulica do meio poroso. A metodologia proposta é ilustrada através de um estudo de caso. Em função da metodologia utilizada, a avaliação de risco fornece, como resultado, uma informação adicional ao tomador de decisão, uma vez que são estimados o risco e a sua chance de ocorrência.

Experiment l compared sheep production from 3-year-old cocksfoot based pastures grown in combination with white, Caucasian, subterranean or balansa clover with a ryegrass-white clover pasture and a pure lucerne forage. Sheep liveweight gain per head from each pasture treatment and the pure lucerne stand was recorded in the 2006/07 and 2007/08 seasons.
