Abstract:
We know of several Greek translators of works originally written in Latin. Of non-Christian, purely literary material, we know of six. First, there is Claudius' powerful freedman, Polybius, who turned Homer into Latin prose and Vergil into Greek prose (SenecaConsol. ad Polyb. 8.2, 11.5). Then, under Hadrian we have Zenobius ‘the sophist’, who translates Sallust'sHistoriesand “so-called Wars’ (Suda Z 73). The translation into Greek of Hyginus' Fabulae can be dated precisely, for its unknown author tells us that he copied it up on 11th September 207 (CGILiii 56.3off.). Similarly, the extant translation of Eutropius'Breviariumby Paianios, probably a pupil of Libanius, can be dated securely to about 380. The translation of the same by Capito (SudaK 342), which survives in excerpts, is placed with some confidence at the beginning of the sixth century. The date and identity of the last of our translators, ‘Arrian the epic poet’, who rendered theGeorgicsof Vergil (SudaA 3867), is unclear.

Abstract:
Laconic songs, describing with the picturesque expressiveness and aphorismic clearness the sadness of parting with the motherland, became really wide-spread in the émigré folklore of Crimean Tatars. Compositional sophistication, emotional expressiveness are characteristic for these songs. They are notable for the touching lyricism, connected with the fact that exactly these songs are mainly about the parting with the loved ones: parents, friends, beloved girl. Fixed in several variants, Sudak tyurkyusi (Sudak Song) belongs to such folklore compositions. This song deals with the complicated dramatic relationships of two lovers who have to part. We can only guess what makes their relationships so complicated, but it is rather definitely mentioned that nobody could help the fatal influence of external factors. As well as difficult relationships of the lovers, bitterness and harm of adverse circumstances are clearly accented. The analyzed song has a certain lightness characteristic of the folklore style manner, even some playfulness, which effectively contrasts with the deep dramatic quality. The transfer of subtle, barely perceptible psychological nuances, emotional saturation are connected with the sophisticated oriental ornamentality, intensified by the eloquent, albeit unobtrusive, poetic parallelisms, as well as rhythmic and euphonic peculiarities of poetic description.

Abstract:
Abstract The first assessment of abundance of a local population of bottlenose dolphins in the Black Sea (near the Sudak coast) in 2011–2012 has been conducted: the results of a mark-recapture study of photo identified animals were complemented by a vessel line transect survey. The overall abundance of a population was estimated at between 621 ± 198 and 715 ± 267 animals (Chapman and Petersen estimates), and the majority of members of the population were recorded in the surveyed area. The summer range covered the area of a few hundred square kilometers, similar to migrating coastal stocks in other world regions. The greatest density of distribution was observed in August in sea 45–60 m deep; in addition, frequent approaches to the coastline are usual for dolphins of this stock. These trends in distribution may be partly explained by distribution of prey. Interaction with sprat trawling fisheries can be a factor shaping the local population structure. Coastal waters of Sudak and adjoining sea areas are an important habitat for bottlenose dolphins in the northern Black Sea, significant for their conservation.

Abstract:
The expansion of Oenanthe isabellina in Ukraine began at the end of 1950s - early 1960s. The Isabelline Wheatear settled along the coast of the Sea of Azov from east to west and appeared on the Crimean Peninsula later than in the regions located to the west of it. Since the late 1960s, this species has been nesting near the mouth of the Dnipro River which located in the west of the Crimean Peninsula. The nesting of Oenanthe isabellina was found in the northern part of the Crimean Peninsula in 1973. In the mid-1980s, the Isabelline Wheatear inhabited the northwestern coast of Crimea and appeared far in the east - on the Kerch Peninsula. In the southeastern part of the peninsula the range of the Wheatear reached the Black Sea coast by the end of the 1980s, when the species nesting was found near Feodosia. In the southeastern part of Crimea, the Isabelline Wheatear continued to settle along the Black Sea coast in a westerly direction in the 1990s: its nesting was found near Sudak. In the central Crimea, the species range reached the northern foothills of the Crimean Mountains at this time. The species expansion to the south slowed down by the beginning of the 2000s. In the western Crimea, the southernmost settlement of the Isabelline Wheatear was found near Evpatoria. In the northern foothills of the Crimean Mountains (Central Crimea), the range border has not changed. There were no significant changes in the southeastern Crimea during this period - in the 2000s, O. isabellina nested near Sudak as in the 1990s. The species expansion almost stopped in Crimea in the 2010s. The settling of the Isabelline Wheatear in the steppe regions of the southwestern Crimea did not occur, possibly due to the absence of little ground squirrel settlements, whose burrows birds usually use for nesting. The border of the O. isabellina range has moved southward on about 100 km for three decades - from the beginning of the 1970s to the beginning of the 2000s -, i.e. the settlement speed of the species in Crimea was about 3 km per year.

Abstract:
This work is devoted to research of the Sudak – Novy Svet (Crimea) local population of Black Sea Bottlenose dolphins. Observations and acoustic records were carried out all the year round in 2014 and 2015. Along with visual identification of individuals, for the first time in our country the method of «acoustic identification» was applied (according to the made catalog of «signature whistles»). «Signature whistles» are defined as tonal signals having a frequency contour, unique for each animal, and dominating in its repertoire. In such aspect «signature whistle» can be considered as a peculiar «acoustic marker» of this individual. In the analysis of all volume of the registered whistles of dolphins (about 30 thousands of signals) 206 dominating types (i.e. «signature whistles») have been defined. On the basis of comparison of visual and acoustic data the structure of groups, making the studied population, has been described; the seasonal picture of visit of the water area by various groups has been presented as well as «transit» and «resident» groups have been allocated.

Abstract:
The content and composition of organic acids, playing an important role in the formation of wine taste and aroma, largely depend on the yeast strain. It allows us to consider microorganisms as a resource of biomodulation of wine acidity. The purpose of this research was to study the complex of nonvolatile organic acids of white table dry wines made of ‘Aligote’, ‘Kokur Belyi’ and ‘Muscat Blanc’ grape varieties obtained using six strains of the Saccharomyces yeast species. The analysis of the complex of organic acid of wines was carried out using HPLC. It was shown that, despite the predominating role of grape varieties in the formation of organic acids complex, titratable and active acidity of wine, the yeast strain was also effecting its formation. The features of the complex of organic acids of wines obtained with different strains were revealed: high proportion of malic (33%) and lactic (16%) acids in wines obtained respectively with strains ‘Muscat Vengerskiy’ and ‘Sudak’; high concentration of succinic acid in wines obtained with strains ‘Leningradskaya’ and ‘Muscat Vengerskiy” - 1.38 and 1.18 g/dm, respectively, and low 0.83 g/dm with the strain ‘Sudak’. The results obtained will serve as a basis for research of biomodulation of the composition of organic acids by using different yeast strains as one of the factors of reducing the dosage of sulfur dioxide in the aspect of organic wine production.

Abstract:
Despite political and military upheaval in Byzantium in the 13th century, the most important of which were the conquest of Constantinople and the central territories of the empire by the Latins in 1204, and then the restoration of the state and the return of the capital by Michael VIII Palaeologus in 1261, the manufacture of marketable glazed tableware on its historical territory had not stopped. Moreover, delivery of this ceramic into the territory of the Crimea also continued. This was largely due to the new owners of the maritime market — Italian merchants, first Venetians, and then Genoese, who were active participants of the political and military conflicts in the Eastern Mediterranean and Byzantium. At the same time, the composition of the imported ceramic was not stable. Finds from well-dated archaeological deposits known from the excavations of archaeological sites in the Crimea, as well as the surrounding area, provide the information as for the volume of the Byzantine import and changes in the imported pottery assemblage during the 13th century. First of all, these are the cultural remains with the layers of fire and destruction on the territory of the medieval towns in southern and south-western Crimea with the coins of 1250—1260s; shipwreck near the Novy Svet village south-west to Sudak, which wrecked not earlier than 1260—1270s; two pits in the harbor part of Soldaia / Sudak with coins of the 1266 and 1270s, which, according to stratigraphy, were filled after the mentioned catastrophe; sites in south-eastern Crimea with coins of the last quarter of the 13th — early 14th century, so on. Correlation of data from these contexts leads to the following conclusions. 1. Quantity of Byzantine ceramics imported into Crimea during the 13th century was quite significant. It accounts for up to 70 % and more of the ceramics assemblages. 2. The range of glazed ware remained approximately the same from the beginning until the middle — third quarter of the 13th century. The MBP (mainly «Incised Sgraffito Ware», less often «Champlevй» and others); GWW with monochrome green glaze as well as green and brown painted variants; «Zeuxippus Ware» (class IА&II) prevailed. 3. Since the last third of the 13th century less elegant and cheaper vessels («Sgraffito with Concentric Circles», jugs with stripes of white engobe) from different workshops, which in large quantities arise on the Byzantine and surrounding lands, start to come to the Crimea and Northern Black Sea Region. Their activities were stimulated by the intensification of maritime trade and the growing demand for cheap glazed pottery. 4. Cessation of some groups of import, especially MBP from Chalcis, may be due to the ousting of the Venetians from the Crimean market and their temporary difficulties with novation in the Black Sea after 1261. At the same time, the sales crisis could lead to the decline of some large pottery centers and to the emergence of new focused on more promising trading intermediaries, which the Genoese became.

This paper will discuss the perspectives of the marine medicine in the Crimean region, outlining key achievements from the collaboration between the Medical Academy Named after S. I. Georgievsky (Simferopol) and Sanatorium Sudak. As a result integral diagnostic approach of navy military personnel was provided by the research team ensuring that early most physical and psychic functional changes are revealed in time. Given approach with the main focus on most efficient measures is aimed to provide person-oriented rehabilitation techniques in terms of health resort accounting for the specific professional activity. Current research consists of a series of examinations made in accordance with the standardized methods for the functional state examination followed by the medical and psychological rehabilitation recommended by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation as well as own approaches were applied for the assessment of adaptive responses. At this stage examination of the submarines’ crew members that was carried out during the entire health resort rehabilitation period suggests that for differentiation approach to be successful the assessments should consider the condition of the autonomic nervous system and highly sensitive parameters of the electroencephalographic recordings. As comparison of current standards and recommendations of medical and psychological rehabilitation with the efficiency of electroencephalography and heart rate variability recordings along with the psychological tests suggests that the latter provide better insights into the efficiency of rehabilitation and they should be included into the examination protocols. Assessment and further appropriate correction of microelement status should be also implemented as it ensures better functional and adaptive capacity.

Abstract:
Aim. To study the species composition, form diversity, bioecological features of summer‐ flowering trees and shrubs in green spaces of the south‐eastern coast of the Crimea and suggest ways to expand the range. Materials and Methods. The green spaces of Feodosia, Sudak and the localities of Semidvorye, Solnechnogorskoye, Malorechenskoye, Rybachye, Morskoye, Novy Svet, Solnechnaya Dolina, Shchebetovka, Kurortnoye, Koktebel and Primorskiy were investigated. Bioecological and phenological studies of ornamental trees and shrubs were undertaken according to generally accepted methods. Results. The species composition and shape diversity of summer‐flowering trees and shrubs in green plantings of Crimea’s south‐eastern coast were identified. It was found that summer‐ flowering plants make up almost half of the species composition (48.6%) used in landscaping. However, only 23 species are widespread throughout the region, such as Ailanthus altissima (Mill.) Swingle, Albizia julibrissin Durazz., Buddleja davidii Franch., Campsis radicans (L.) Seem., Elaeagnus angustifolia L. etc. The greatest number of species and forms of arboreal plants bloom in early summer, their number decreasing significantly from the second decade of June. Conclusion. An assortment is proposed for increasing the number of trees and shrubs which flower during the summer, taking into account both their decorative visual appeal and their environmental requirements, especially drought and frost resistance. Of great interest are species that bloom from June onwards, especially those which are highly decorative and have a long flowering period, such as Albizia julibrissin, Buddleja davidi and forms, Hydrangea arborescens L., Campsis radicans, Kerria japonica f. plena C.K. Abstract:
Th e history of research of the Black-eared Wheatear Oenanthe hispanica (L.) in Ukraine in XIX–XXI centuries is presented. Th e Black-eared Wheatear is now a rare breeding bird in the coastal area of the Crimean peninsula, and a very rare vagrant species on the other territory of Ukraine. Four breeding regions of the Black-eared Wheatear are found in the Crimean peninsula: seacoast between Sudak and Th eodosia cities; neighbourhood of Sevastopol City; Tarkhankut peninsula; Kerch peninsula. Th e fi rst two breeding regions have been known since the middle of XIX century. In the breeding regions, the breeding areas of the Black-eared Wheatear are not constant: the birds almost never nest in a place for a number of years. Oenanthe hispanica breeds in Crimea in the same biotopes as its sibling species, the Pied Wheatear, Oenanthe pleschanka, which is essentially more abundant there. Th e breeding of single Black-eared Wheatears with the numerous Pied Wheatears increases their interspecies hybridization, which is rather common on the Crimean peninsula. Th ree out of fi ve individuals of Oenanthe hispanica collected in Crimea and stored in various museums turned out to be hybrids with Oenanthe pleschanka. Th e Black-eared and Pied Wheatears have hybridized in the Crimean peninsula for a long time: the hybrids have been recorded in XX and in XXI centuries. Th e hybrids do not occur in a specifi c breeding region, and can be found in any of those.

Abstract:
The research objective is to study the epidemiological situation on tuberculosis (TB) in the Republic of Crimea (RC) on the basis of territorial differentiation of TB morbidity and mortality trend during 2004-2015 with the use of multidimensional statistics method. We applied k-means clustering. The official statistics of TB morbidity and mortality for the period of 2004-2015 were provided by the "Crimean Republican Clinical Center of Phthisiology and Pulmonology". The grouping of Crimean territories on the TB morbidity and mortality rate trend into 4 clusters was optimal. In the analysis of the research finding the steady decline of the TB morbidity and mortality in all clusters was generally found. The most favourable situation and trend of rates studied occurred in Alushta, Armyansk and Sudak cities, Sovetsky and Chernomorsky districts (the 3rd cluster) where TB morbidity and mortality rate were below the regional mean values. The highest rates above Crimean mean values and unstable trend were identified in the Dzhankoy, Krasnogvardeysky and Krasnoperekopsky districts integrated into 4th cluster. In general for the studied period the trend of TB morbidity decline in cluster 1 (Kerch, Yalta, Yevpatoria and Feodosia cities, Belogorsky and Saky districts) was revealed. TB mortality trend corresponded to average Crimean one with low exceedance. In general the TB morbidity and mortality trend corresponded to the all-Crimean trend in lower values in cluster 2 (Simferopol city, Bakhchisarai, Kirovsky, Leninsky, Nizhnegorsky, Pervomaysky, Razdolnensky and Simferopol districts). The negative trend of TB morbidity and mortality in a number of RC territories can testify to problems in the work of Phthisiology service that required further analysis for correction management decisions.

Abstract:
Introduction. The focus of this study is on the material culture of one of the major cities of south-eastern Taurika Sugdeja in the 12th and early 13th centuries, as well as archaeological sources that allow to highlight stratified archaeological complexes and horizons of that time. Special attention is paid to the justification of chronological indicators presented by household objects, decorations, objects of Christian cult and imported red clay glazed ceramics. The latter, based on modern chronological developments and the archaeological situation, is the most important indicator. It is common to combine this pottery into a group of Middle Byzantine Production (MBP). Methods. The standard methods, which are usually involved for the study of archaeological materials, are used in the work: stratigraphic, typological, and comparative. Analysis. The materials from decades of excavation in Sudak, which are stored in archives and museum repositories now, have been studied again. As a result, 5 sites with layers of the 12th – early / first half of the 13th centuries have been located in the different part of the medieval site, including the port area, as well as more than two dozen finds of the MBP were attributed. Results. The newly obtained data allowed us to conclude that Sugdeja occupied a rather large area during the studied period and the city continued to maintain contacts with the Central Byzantine lands during all this time. Moreover, the findings of different stylistic and chronological types of ceramics indicate the presence of such contacts both during the reign of the Komnenoi and Angeloi, and after the conquest of Constantinople by the Latins in 1204.

Abstract:
One of the promising areas of scientific research today is branding of territories. This issue is widely covered in the context of territorial marketing. Brand influence on recipient’s behavior is a significant brand management goal. That is why branding is actively used today in economy, in particular, when creating a territorial image. The development of urban space is predetermined by the need to form strategic guidelines that are adaptive to the existing competitive potential of the territory, dynamically changing environmental conditions, and toughening competition in the investment, information, labor, event, tourist and other markets. In this regard, the issues of territory’s promotion in the domestic and intercountry spaces by means of creating a recognizable urban brand which is associated with the most significant competitive advantages of the territory become more and more crucial. The importance of understanding the category of territory branding in the economic context is determined, in our opinion, by the formation of a territory brand, which helps to significantly strengthen the regional identity aimed at the elimination of various contradictions of religious, national character, as well as solution of problematic issues connected with the coexistence of various social groups within the same region. In order to determine the influence of brand identifiers on the economic development of the region, the authors have conducted a marketing study among the population of the Republic of Crimea, in which 242 respondents from various social and age groups took part. The survey reveals: respondents’ awareness of regional symbols depending on their age; respondents’ emotional perception of the logo of the city of Yalta; associative perception of the logo of the city of Saki; visual perception of the logo of the city of Kerch; knowledge of the logo of the city of Sudak; associative perception of the logo of the city of Feodosia; attitude of the population of the Republic of Crimea to the logos of cities in the region.

Abstract:
Status thymico-lymphaticus had ever been explained as a cause of sudden death usually in children, but few cases were reported in adults. We sought to determine the relationship between thymic hypertrophy and sudden unexpected death in adult (SUDA), and associated macroscopic and microscopic findings. Adult post mortems from 1984 to 2014 were reviewed and 23 thymic hypertrophy patients without SUDA, 33 thymic hypertrophy patients with SUDA and 172 SUDAs without thymic hypertrophy entered. The data of thymus, lymph nodes, spleen, heart, aorta, and adrenal glands were collected for macroscopic and histological analysis. Ten antibodies were used and applied to 3 children and 46 adult thymus specimens. We found, as an independent factor, thymic hypertrophy increased significantly the risk of SUDA (6.9 folds) in both male and female. What’s more, SUDAs associated with thymic hypertrophy were quite younger (22.5 years) than those without it. A majority of patients with hypertrophic thymus had a variable number of accompanied anomalies described as the typical characteristics of status thymico-lymphaticus, but no macroscopic and microscopic findings related to SUDA in patients with thymic hypertrophy. Cytokeratins (CKs) showed distinctly different immunohistochemical expression patterns in individuals who had different death causes and disease background. Instead of a disease entity “status thymico-lymphaticus” is a systematic abnormality with thymic hypertrophy as a feature involving mainly immune and/or cardiovascular system, probably caused by gene mutations.

Abstract:
Different questions related to the manufacturing of glazed pottery in Taurica during the Jochid state and the Genoese colonization are in the sphere of scientists’ interests for more than a century. Significant increase of the archeological collections in the last decades of the 20th and beginning of the 21st century, together with the more progressive approaches to the analysis of large volumes of ceramics, and the using of archeometrical methods, allow to reach a new level of study in this field. Now on the territory of the Crimea are known at least 10 pottery workshops, which have appeared at different times in the period from the last quarter of the 13th (not earlier than the end of the 1260s) to the first quarter of the 15th century and 6 site with single evidence of such manufacturing. 9 workshops were located in five medieval town of the peninsula: 2 — in Kaffa (Theodosia), 2 — in Soldaya (Sudak), at least 2 — in Solhat (Staryi Krym), one in Lusta (Alushta) and in Chambalo (Balaklava). Two more workshops (the earliest ones among known) were found at the settlement of the potters Bokatash II in Solkhat vicinity. Visual, and in some cases archeometrical characteristics of their products were determined. So it became possible to estimate the volumes of the glazed pottery manufacturing of various regions of the peninsula (South-Eastern and South-Western Crimea), as well as the individual workshops, in particular in Alushta, Balaklava and Bokatash. In addition, it allowed to determine the geography, volume and dynamics of the trade by glazed pottery from Crimea. The last one began to form an appreciable part of the ceramic assemblages outside the peninsula from around the 1320s. At the beginning of the glazed ceramics production in Taurica the distinction in cultural traditions among the workshops were well visible. Some of them presumably may indicate the origin of the craftsmen from the territory of Anatolia, Transcaucasia, the Eastern Mediterranean, the Balkans, and possibly Central Asia, and may be even Italy. Subsequently, around the last third of the 14th century, this individuality is gradually replaced by standardization of production. The leader in this craft became the Genoese trading posts, headed by Caffa.

Abstract:
Introduction. The toponym Gothia in written sources from the 8th century was used to designate the territory of the Mountain Crimea inhabited by the Alans and the Goths between Inkerman and the north-eastern suburb of Alushta. The same region was called the Klimata of Cherson and the Klimata of Gothia. Methods. Fragmentary information about Gothia is contained in the “Synopsis of St. Eugenios” compiled by John Lazaropoulos until 1364 and in the “Alanian Epistle” by the bishop Theodore. These works describe the same period in the history of the Gothic Klimata, 1223–1227 and 1223, respectively. Analysis. The considered evidence confirms the entry of Cherson and its subordinate Klimata of Gothia into the empire of Trebizond, at least in the first half of the 13th century. It is methodically incorrect to judge the situation in the Klimata in the first half of the 13th century from the descriptions contained in later sources of what happened in the 14th–15th centuries. The “Epistle” says about the flight of bishop Theodore to an Alanian village neighboring to Cherson. Supporters of identifying the village with the Qırq-Yer fortress remote from the city on the Chufut-Kale plateau ignore geographical and historical realities. Results. There is no evidence of the existence of single-ethnic Gothic and Alanian regions in the mountains and on the southern coast in written sources. In Sudak, Guillaume de Rubrouck was talked about speakers of Teutonic and other languages in the mountains of Crimea. Historian’s allegations about the division of Gothia into two principalities are disproved by the results of archaeological excavations in the territory of Klimata of Gothia. The toponym Klimata is not mentioned in the descriptions of events that occurred after the middle 13th century. However, archaeological excavations of cities on the Inner Ridge revealed the preservation of active and diverse life activities of the population of the region until the end of the 13th century. Probably, the history of the administrative formation of the Klimata of Gothia was interrupted in 1298/99, when Nogai’s troops destroyed Cherson, cities on the Eski-Kermen plateau, Bakla and others.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Objective: Immersion in water during labor and delivery has been studied as an alternative form of obstetric care. The aim of this study was to evaluate obstetrics and neonatal outcomes of women intending to use immersion in water for labor and delivery. Methods: This was a retrospective observational study conducted at a single center in Italy from January 2004 to January 2016. The clinical records of pregnant women intending to use immersion in water for labor and delivery were collected in a dedicated database and included in the study. Only the women who underwent immersion in water starting from the first stage of labor were included in the study. Inclusion criteria were women with uncomplicated singleton gestations and cephalic presentation at or later than 37 weeks of gestation, and with spontaneous onset of labor. The primary outcome of the study was the percentage of women who had both labor and delivery in water. Results: 389 women met the inclusion criteria and were included in the study. 256 (66%) were nulliparous, and 133 (34%) were multiparous. Out of the 389 women intending to use immersion in water for labor and delivery, 278 (71.5%) had labor and delivery in the water, 31 (8.0%) labor in water and delivery on land, and 80 (20.5%) had the first stage of labor in water, and the second stage and delivery on land. The incidence of perineal lacerations was 61.4%. Conclusion: The vast majority of the women who set out to labor and delivery in water achieve their aim.
