Full textSalinization is a process of soil degradation that has been aggravating and expanding along the coast of Peru in the past decades. This process has a negative impact on the inhabitants of the districts of San Antonio and Mala, in the region of Lima, because it does not allow them to perform their traditional agriculture activities throughout the year. It is precisely for this reason that the current thesis aims to understand the process and the current degree of salinization in these districts. With this objective, the rate of expansion of salinization between the years 1976 and 2016 is determined, as well as the causes of its evolution and growth. The methodology followed consisted in three stages. The first one is field stage, where soil samples were collected from the study area. The second one is laboratory stage, where the samples were analyzed in a laboratory to measure parameters of texture, pH, electrical conductivity, color and organic matter. And the third and final one is the cabinet stage, where the entire laboratory data was processed, merged with satellite images from 1976 and 2016 of the cultivated areas in the surface and presented as comparative maps. The results showed that the salinization has expanded from 1976 and 2016, causing the loss of 1 690,47 hectares of arable land. Also, in the majority of the sampling points, the salinity has worsened. This is caused by natural factors, such as proximity to the sea, and anthropic factors, such as low-quality irrigation water that comes from wastewater discharge and polluted irrigation canals. Finally, the study concludes with strategies proposed to control salinization in the research area.

Full text--- We investigated the presence of microorganisms in soils representative Myxococcales Order of the Department of Lima as a contribution to the limited work done in reference to this microbial group in order to provide the basis for future work in biotechnology. To this purpose, we examined soils from 6 different places in Lima: Forests of Zárate, Gardens of Lima, Lomas de Lachay Lunahuaná-Cañete, Chillon River Valley and the Villa Wetlands, collecting a total of 114 samples. Were used media Krzeminieska and Krzeminieska (K & K), the Singh medium (MSg) and agar pellet (AP) for the isolation and purification of strains bacteriolytic; the Stanier medium modified (SDM) and the agar Stanier starch (ASTA) for isolation and purification of cellulolytic strains, CT media, agar yeast (AL) and the IM-1 medium were used to observe vegetative and fruiting forms of the isolates. The identification was made based on morphological classification reported in Bergey's Manual (Holt et al., 1994). We confirmed the presence of Myxococales in soils of Lima, with bacteriolytic strains of the genus Myxococcus the most predominant. We also identified strains of the genera Angiococcus, Archangium, Cystobacter, Sorangium and Stigmatella. Identification based on morphological characteristics was the most useful for identification of Myxococcales, even when additional tests aided in identifying the species.

Full textLima City is situated on alluvial fan deposits of rivers flowing through geological formations that contain different levels of uranium. In this paper, a study is made on the average spatial and temporal behavior of radon gas in soils of Lima City. Radon concentration was determined using the LR-115 type 2 track detector during 36 periods, of 14 days each, in twenty holes distributed in the fifteen districts of Lima City. Radon concentration in soil pores ranged from 0.1 to 64.3 kBq/m3 with an average value of 5.6 kBq/m3. The average radon concentration in soil gas was about two times lower in winter than in the other seasons. High radon values during October/November 2017 were related to the earthquakes perceived in Lima City in that period. The highest radon concentrations were found in areas of alluvial deposits whose parental material has been removed from the Quilmaná and Huarangal volcanics by the Chillón and Huaycoloro Rivers. Soil gas radon concentrations were even higher in areas closer to volcanic and less distant from rivers. During the period of maximum flooding of the Chillón, Rímac and Lurín rivers, due to the natural phenomenon “El Niño Costero”, anomalous high soil radon concentrations were observed in most of the measurement sites located near rivers. These high radon values were associated with ground vibrations caused by rock and debris avalanches in rivers and creeks.

Full textIn 1964, studies of the phenomenon of liquefaction took great importance because of Niigata events. Also, soils such as Pisco, Villa El Salvador and Chorrillos are susceptible to the phenomenon, where the first of these suffered such effects in 2007. In the case of Chorrillos, La Encantada is probably a potentially liquefiable soil. La Encantada in Chorrillos has the necessary characteristics to liquefy. Therefore, is necessary to take measures to improve the soil and then, when the soil has better conditions, formulate an appropriate foundation. Similarly, the presence of a shopping center in a residential area revalues this and would be benefial from those who live nearby. To solve this problem the methodology of the "Japanese Society of Mechanics and Foundation Engineering" which proposes an evaluation of 3 degrees was used. As a result of research potential liquefaction gives a value of 0.856, indicating that the ground is potentially liquefiable and must be improved or replaced. The best choice was a soil replacement by burdensome material with a friction angle of 36 ° and 62.8% of gravels. Then, once the requirements have been met about the gravel material the choice of the shallow foundation depends on the economic aspect. As well, the width of the footing that was formulated is 2.40 meters and depth is 0.80 meters. Also, a series with different widths for different depths that works too was listed.

Full text-- Lead is a metal distributed in the environment. The environment pollution comes from mainly of tetraethyl lead from gasoline and of the diverse emissions of industrial processes where to take part compounds of lead. In this present job of investigation it was determinates the polluted concentration of lead in soils of 21 houses from the Human Settlement Cultura y Progreso in the district of Ñaña - Chaclacayo during the month of February of 2006. The sampling method used was the recommended by EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) and the methodology for the analysis of the samples was the Spectrophotometry of Atomic Absorption of graphite Furnace. It exists a direct relation between the lead concentration in soil and roof of the houses and distance with the nearby factories; samples were taken in 3 blocks near to some factories, the block more nearly to the factories presented a higher vakue of lead concentration and the block farthest presented a lower value of lead concentration respect to the others 2. The results obtained indicate that 90.24% of the samples analyzed exceed the limit value established for the W.H.O. which is 25 mg/Kg in soil. For this reason is recommended to do periodical monitoring of lead contamination in soils for controlling its emption and toxicity in the environment.
