Abstract:
The exam was performed at Oslo Kommune - Bymiljøetaten- Digital utvikling. The agency is responsible for the city's environment and make sure that parks and streets in Oslo stay clean for example. The department in focus is the IT-department of Bymiljøetaten. The department works according to agile working methods and has recently been working based Kanban where they use tools according to the method. However, it is perceived that implementation of this way of work has taken place too fast and that subprocesses has not been in focus at the same level. The problem is based on the lack of communication between and within the working groups and between leadership. This has resulted in a reduction in efficiency, as employees produce unnecessary code, roles become unclear, routines are not documented, the product is not adapted to the customer, etc. Through the different types of methods to gather data has showed the problems to be perceived as many they all lead back to their lack of communication. Furthermore, communication tools exist but are not used which is a direct result of the lack of process around them. The solution suggested is something that will reduce these problems and make it easier to communicate issues via a software that is implemented in a large process. The solution will be to contribute to increased communication within the agency through a program called FIT IssueTrack that can store and manage routines, but also opens up so employees can customize the work to streamline it. The fact that employees can come up with improvement suggestions also makes it easier to implement further improvements, as work methods are adapted accordingly. In addition to this, a meeting will also be held regularly to discuss the various proposals presented.<br>Examensarbetet som presenteras utfördes hos Oslo kommune – Bymiljøetaten – Digital utvikling som ansvarar för datasystemen som används för att bevara stadens miljö.

Abstract:
The Antillean manatee, Trichechus manatus manatus, is a mammal with an herbivorous diet and costal distribution in rivers, estuaries and inshore waters of the Brazilian Tropical Zone. In Cearà State, the species may found in the outermost ends of its western and eastern sectors. In the eastern sector there are no Marine Conservation Units to ward off impacts to the environment and the manatee population, such as urban development, tourism and occupation of beaches and mangrove forests. Manatees have been classified by the International Union for Nature Conservation as a âvulnerable speciesâ and included on the Official List of Endangered Species of the Brazilian Fauna. According to the Brazilian Institute for the Environment, it runs an extremely high risk of extinction in the near future. The objectives of this Thesis have been to determine the spatial distribution and patterns of usage of the living area, choice of the most appropriate methodology for population monitoring and mapping of feeding grounds and freshwater sources likely to used by the animals. The database was obtained by means of aerial surveys from June, 2003 to October, 2004, making up a 24-hour monitoring effort during 11 overhead flights, as well as nautical surveys performed from August, 2003 to November, 2004, making up a 157-hour monitoring effort during 10 voyages. Of the two prospecting techniques, the aerial one was less practical because of water turbidity, which made it difficult to identify and count manatee specimens, whereas the nautical one, because of its nearness to the targets, proved to the most efficient. The status of the Antillean manatee population was evaluated through the following parameters: (a) habitat conservation, with emphasis on territory maintenance; (b) access to freshwater sources and areas suitable for feeding and reproduction; (c) yielding of optimum environmental conditions for parental care. The threatened extinction in the studied area is related to factors such as decreasing of food and freshwater sources, silting-up of the Jaguaribe River, by-catch by trawl and gillnet fishing. The worrying outcome of such a scenario is likely to result in a reduction of the habitat size; increase in the straying of newborns plus an increase in adult mortality rates. The Picos region, specially the Cajuais sandbank, was defined as a High Density Zone, which displays a highly aggregate distribution because of seaweed abundance and smaller deployment of fishing boats. Among the suggestions for lowering the extinction risks of the Antillean manatee in Eastern Cearà State, the following ones stand out; (a) development of education campaigns which deal with the main aspects of environment preservation; (b) reintroduction of specimens in zones where population decline is evident; (c) installation of Marine Conservation Units and enforcement of the pertinent management measures and (d) constant monitoring of the population in the known habitat to determine environmental patterns which influence manatees in Icapuà county, eastern Cearà State.

Abstract:

Abstract:
This compact chapter addresses patient selection and general principles of mindfulness-based interventions, specifically mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR). It describes mindfulness-oriented recovery enhancement (MORE) as a combination of mindfulness intervention and cognitive behavioral therapy, suggesting its effectiveness in reducing the perception of pain in more than half of the participants who complete training. While focusing principally on the patient, the chapter argues for the utility of mindfulness-based interventions in preserving the serenity and enhancing the effectiveness of the therapist. It also notes that while the therapeutic outcome may be modest, there is generally little cost and very little risk to initiation of mindfulness meditation and similar interventions. Abstract:
This article appears in theOxford Handbook of New Audiovisual Aestheticsedited by John Richardson, Claudia Gorbman, and Carol Vernallis. This chapter focuses on the main title sequences of recent television serials commissioned by the North American premium cable channel Home Box Office. At around 90 seconds’ duration, these sequences buck the trend much in evidence elsewhere on television of minimizing such elements drastically and placing such identifiers later in the show. An exploration of the functions and characteristics of television title sequences is followed by an introduction to commercial television marketing and approaches to the audiovisual. The chapter then provides detailed analyses of the title sequences forThe Sopranos(1997-2007), with music by Alabama3/A3 (“Woke Up This Morning”) andSix Feet Under(2001-05), with music by Thomas Newman. The relationship between the aesthetic character of the sequences and the institutional context of the serials in question is explored, suggesting that such sequences function as signifiers of the commissioning channel's brand identity.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract Ungulates are present worldwide with 257 recorded species, including livestock. They cover different functional gradients, be it feeding regime, digestive strategy, body size, body mass, fur characteristics or sociality. All these specificities may intervene at different stages of animal-mediated plant dispersal. Ungulates move diaspores from both native and non-native plants, through endo- and epizoochory. Initially introduced by humans, non-native plants bearing specific traits can be carried over long distances and to new environments by ungulates. These vectors can further free local resources necessary for the germination and the subsequent growth of the released diaspores. We first looked at trait-based plant community changes at different timescales in the presence of different native ungulates. We then reviewed the literature on endozoochory, regurgitation and fur-epizoochory assisted by ungulates, focusing on the dispersal of non-native plants. We made an overall assessment of ungulate-mediated non-native plant dispersal by biogeographical zone and dispersal mode, and then provided additional information on plant growth form and taxonomy, vectors and associated modes of dispersal. Results are presented for four main ungulate families: Cervidae, Bovidae, Suidae and Equidae. For each family, we highlight our findings either by ungulate if sufficiently represented (e.g. Odocoileus virginianus, Bison bison, Bos taurus) or by group of species. According to their feeding regime, grazers dispersed solely forbs and graminoids whereas omnivores also dispersed plants from other growth forms (i.e. cactus, vine, shrub and tree). Numerous non-native plants are dispersed by ungulates around the world, but this is probably the visible part of the iceberg, as only 32 ungulates (i.e. 12%) have been studied as vectors so far, suggesting their overall contribution is certainly underrated.

Abstract:
In one of the earliest films to depict the budding field of psychoanalysis, Alfred Hitchcock dealt with oversight from David O. Selznick’s personal psychiatrist as well as the Production Code. Both the psychiatrist and the censors found an abundance of erotic symbolism in the dream sequence created by Salvador Dal’, which was cut significantly in the final film. The Production Code office was also concerned about the suggestion of an illicit affair between psychiatrist Ingrid Bergman and her patient Gregory Peck, the new head of the asylum where much of the story takes place. The film did well at the box office, but its simplistic view of psychoanalysis has caused it to age poorly.

Abstract:
This final entry draws together some larger conclusions from the previous seven chapters, specifically addressing the complexity of the relationship between the various performance platforms and locales discussed in the book. As well, it poses some suggestions for future historical work regarding the relationship between television and the musical and looks ahead at the ever-rising level of convergence and audience participation possible in an increasingly networked world. It nods to an emergent trend in showing recordings of Broadway shows in movie theatres, the launch of Broadway HD, and the role the Internet plays in distributing licensed, bootlegged, and fan-created musical texts. It notes that the book is in no way comprehensive but seeks to illuminate the string of moving parts involved in the musical’s forays into television and ultimately looks forward at what might still be coming down the pike.

Abstract:
Modern work patterns like continuous integration (CI) have an implicit need for testing automation. In current CI solutions, white-box testing is left to the work methodology, typically addressed after code reviews. Code security inspection is often done in specific code reviews focusing on security. SonarQube is a tool that, to a certain extent, can automate white-box design and testing and serve as a guide for formal code reviews. Moreover, this tool can help audit the code for potential security issues. Most web programming today uses components readily available and transparently managed by package managers, like npm for Node.js or Composer for PHP. This use must also be audited at least for potential security problems; yet traditional white-box test design would require a good understanding of the vendor code, which can be difficult/impractical to achieve. This chapter will address SonarQube as a valuable tool to automate white-box and security testing and also provide suggestions on how to manage your vendor branches when there is a need to audit/change the vendor source code.

The remake of Hitchcock’s 1934 film retained the title and certain key elements of the original, in which the child of a vacationing couple is kidnapped, including the climactic assassination attempt in Albert Hall. But the details of the story changed a great deal. The vacationing couple is American, not English, the kidnapped child is a boy, not a girl, and the wife, played by Doris Day, is a retired musical star rather than an expert marksman. The Production Code office, which had excised five minutes of a climactic gun battle from the original, had relatively few objections to the remake. Censors objected to the kidnapping of a young child, the suggestion that the child’s life might be in danger, and wanted to make it clear that the villain was only ‘posing’ as a minister, not actually a man of the cloth. Hitchcock easily accommodated these suggestions by raising the age of the child to eight and adjusting a few bits of dialogue, reflecting both the gradual weakening of the Code and the director’s increasing skill in dealing with censorship.

Abstract:
In this paper, I explore the nature of the ideal human life, by asking what we will do in Utopia. I take issue with Suits’s suggestion in The Grasshopper that all we will do is play games. I argue, instead, that there will also be a place for understanding fundamental truths and admiring beauty. Nor must it be the case that our “productive” behavior is limited to playing games: there will still be room for acts of creativity and for engaging in meaningful relationships with others.

Abstract:
This chapter deals with the application of experimental design in slope stability analysis. In particular, focus of the present chapter is on the application of Box-Behnken statistical design for assessment of stability of slopes in homogeneous soil (general case), for estimation of slope stability in clay-marl deposits at the edge of Neogene basins (case study) and for the extension of grid search method for locating the critical rupture surface. Extensive statistical analysis, internal and external validation imply high estimation accuracy and reliability of developed mathematical expressions for slope safety factor and for parameters of location of critical rupture surface. Main advantages and limitations of the proposed approach are thoroughly discussed with suggestions for main directions of further research.

Abstract:
In this paper the 3D model of the three stage helical gearbox was establish using UNIGEAPHICS (UG) firstly, and then the structure static analysis was realized by ANSYS. Accordingly the gear-box’ stress distribution, deformation can be obtained, so the strength and stiffness of the gear-box can be calculated based on the stress and the deformation results, which helps us to evaluate whether the design demand can be satisfied or not. The structure static analysis provides suggestions for the improvement of model design, and the finite element simulation to the large, heavy-duty gear-box reducer can provide technical assurance for the dependability of the production.

Abstract:
Many systems are difficult to control by conventional means because of the complexity of the very fabric of their being. Some systems perform very well under some conditions and then burst into wild, maybe even chaotic, oscillations for no apparent reason. Such systems exist in bioreactors, electro-plating and other application domains. In these cases a model may not exist that can be trusted to accurately replicate the dynamics of the real-world system. BOXES is a well known methodology that learns to perform control maneuvers for dynamic systems with only cursory a priori knowledge of the mathematics of the system model. A limiting factor in the BOXES algorithm has always been the assignment of appropriate boundaries to subdivide each state variable into regions. In addition to suggesting a method of alleviating this weakness, the paper shows that the accumulated statistical data in near neighboring states may be a powerful agent in accelerating learning, and may eventually provide a possible evolution to self-organization.

Abstract:
Carefully crafted, often imperceptible, adversarial perturbations have been shown to cause state-of-the-art models to yield extremely inaccurate outputs, rendering them unsuitable for safety-critical application domains. In addition, recent work has shown that constraining the attack space to a low frequency regime is particularly effective. Yet, it remains unclear whether this is due to generally constraining the attack search space or specifically removing high frequency components from consideration. By systematically controlling the frequency components of the perturbation, evaluating against the top-placing defense submissions in the NeurIPS 2017 competition, we empirically show that performance improvements in both the white-box and black-box transfer settings are yielded only when low frequency components are preserved. In fact, the defended models based on adversarial training are roughly as vulnerable to low frequency perturbations as undefended models, suggesting that the purported robustness of state-of-the-art ImageNet defenses is reliant upon adversarial perturbations being high frequency in nature. We do find that under L-inf-norm constraint 16/255, the competition distortion bound, low frequency perturbations are indeed perceptible. This questions the use of the L-inf-norm, in particular, as a distortion metric, and, in turn, suggests that explicitly considering the frequency space is promising for learning robust models which better align with human perception.

Abstract:
The purpose of this research is to develop a system for evaluating product shape, from the viewpoint of aesthetics and packaging. In the previous work, we developed a robust design method to generate a product image based on customers’ feelings, and we quantitatively evaluated the shape based on the principles of the Taguchi method. The underlying idea is that an attractive product with an aesthetically pleasing shape should enable efficient packaging. In this paper, we analyze the packaging efficiency of three different cross-section shapes (circle, square and rectangle) of an aesthetic PET bottle. The packaging efficiency is evaluated based on comparing the space required to contain bottles with the space available in the packaging box. The paper uses the assumption that the space required to contain bottles depends on the space to contain one bottle, and the space to contain one bottle depends on the largest cross-section of the bottle body. The system can give designers suggestions about the packaging efficiency of the designed model.

Abstract:
The problem of wave-in-deck loading on offshore structures involves complex physical mechanisms which require close study. In this paper, the wave-in-deck forces generated on the bottom plate of a rigidly mounted, box-shaped structure subjected to unidirectional regular waves are quantified by means of two approaches. The first is an analytical momentum approach recommended by classification societies and the second is a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) approach based on the volume of fluid (VOF) method implemented in the commercial code FLUENT. The change in force due to very small variations in wave steepness and air gap is investigated and discussed. Several numerical trials are conducted to optimise the computational domain and model discretisation suggestions are made. The numerical results are compared with physical model tests recently carried out at the Australian Maritime College (AMC). The results of the successive wave impacts are analysed using a discrete wavelet tool to ensure that the temporal information of slamming events is not lost in signal analysis and filtering. By comparing the theoretical and experimental results it was found that in many cases the momentum method underestimates the magnitude of the horizontal and upward directed wave-in-deck forces. Although the three-dimensional CFD cases tested are noticeably time-consuming, these simulations were found to be in good agreement with the experimental measurements.

Abstract:
In modern automotive manufacturing the data associated with the products and the assembly processes required to build a car are not intelligently linked. This becomes problematic when trying to efficiently create best practice templates for assembly processes because the procedure for linking these best practice assembly processes with vehicle components becomes a daunting task. This research is aimed at the development of a decision support system and cyber infrastructure for efficiently linking product information and process information. Specifically, tools are developed to link product and process information in the automotive industry. The goal of this research is to develop and encode rules to guide the linking of product and process information. These rules are formed from historical data and provide suggestions to process planners as to which variants of parts can be assigned to the same standardized set of assembly instructions which exist as process sheet templates. The part data used consists of a standard text description of the part, the bounding box coordinates for all possible installation locations of the part, a unique identifier for the part, and a logic string which defines valid vehicle configurations such as platforms, models, and options for which the part is valid. A portion of this data is analyzed and used as the basis for development of the part grouping rules. Each rule will compare two parts with respect to the relevant part data and determine whether the two parts are capable of being assigned to the same process sheet. The development of the rules is discussed along with examples, followed with a discussion regarding the implementation of the rules into a prototype system. The rules are tested against part data not used in the development process, and a discussion of the results is presented. The paper concludes with conclusions drawn from testing of the rules and a discussion of future work.
