Abstract:
Background: Habit cough is one of the causes of chronic cough in children. Many cases do not reach the psychiatrists due to lack of specific clinical features and diagnostic tests. We present a case of 13 year old boy with habit cough who was successfully treated by suggestion therapy and lignocaine based mouth gargle as a distracter. This case highlights that suggestion therapy can be an important treatment option to this fairly common condition.

Abstract:
This study examined the effects of verbal suggestion and music listening on mood changes of college students. The 135 volunteers were randomly assigned to one of three conditions (Condition 1/somber depiction with music, Condition 2/pleasant depiction with music, or Condition 3/music only). The Profile of Mood States was administered before and after each condition. Significant differences (p<.05) were found between pre and posttest scores within the groups; however, no significant differences were found among the groups for these same measures. A music questionnaire was administered following the posttest which examined the subjects' preference for the music played, the frequency of experiencing images while listening to music, and their opinion concerning whether the depiction complemented the music. Implications of the results are discussed, and suggestions for future research are given.

Abstract:
Two key questions underpin the research presented here. Firstly, how does altered higher order awareness contribute to hypnotic experience? Secondly, how do meditation and hypnosis differ in terms of the role of higher order awareness? These questions are addressed here in the form of four papers. In the first paper I review the literatures of hypnosis and meditation in order to consider the similarities and differences between meditation and hypnosis in terms of the role of attentional skill and the neural underpinnings of each. I then draw conclusions regarding the contrasting role of higher order awareness and metacognition in meditation and hypnosis. Paper two explores higher order awareness in hypnosis by comparing the effects of alcohol, compared to placebo, on hypnotisability and associated frontal lobe executive functioning. Paper three compares meditation and hypnosis by investigating differences in higher order thoughts, mindfulness, absorption and perceptual encoding style as revealed by self-report measures. The final paper takes a broader look at higher order awareness and its relation to the experience of agency and involuntariness in hypnotic suggestion using a Libet type paradigm.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Based on my experience and research, I believe more educational resources are needed for teaching students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). I have combined interviews of participants --two certified and currently practicing art teachers working in the public school setting, two adaptive art specialists, and two art therapists-- with relevant information from my Review of Literature to compile an initial set of practices and adaptive techniques specifically for art teachers to use in constructing a successful learning environment in the art classroom for students with ASD. According to my review of literature, three factors necessary for creating a successful learning environment for students with ASD are preparation, collaboration, and instruction. To examine these factors, I focused my interviews on these topics. Results were aligned with the initial research as those interviewed described a need for more complete and applicable training, more opportunities for collaboration, and information about possible strategies to use with students with ASD in the art classroom. Agopian, Sean. "The development of therapy suggestions for addressing issues of creativity in individuals diagnosed with bipolar disorder." Thesis, Pepperdine University, 2017. http://pqdtopen.proquest.com/#viewpdf?dispub=10256907.

Full text
Abstract:

The aim of the present study was to generate a set of therapy suggestions specifically for use in the treatment of creative individuals diagnosed with bipolar disorder. In order to achieve this end, the author collected information from bodies of literature that focused on three general research areas: (a) the relationship between bipolar illness and creativity, (b) the treatment of bipolar individuals, and (c) psychotherapy treatment of creative individuals. The information gleaned from these three areas was synthesized and used to inform the general treatment suggestions. This study examined several of the existing approaches to the treatment of bipolar disorder and provided suggestions for ways in which those treatments could be tailored for use with creative clients who are diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Effective psychiatric and psychological (i.e., psychotherapeutic) interventions have been developed for the treatment of individuals diagnosed with bipolar disorder, though additional research can be conducted to better understand how these interventions can be adapted to improve outcomes with certain clinical subgroups. Creative individuals with bipolar disorder reflect one such subgroup, and it is hoped that the suggestions for therapeutic adaptations contained within this dissertation begin to draw more attention to an under-researched group.

Abstract:
This study shows that stress is one of the important issues which may have a negative impactboth in physical and mental effects on a nurse's working life. Poor ergonomics of the hospitaland a poor behavior approach of nurses can cause stress. To reduce these stress factors, thisstudy suggests solutions based on gamification that imply activities to create a good workingenvironment and to reduce the stress to ensure the good health and well-being of the nurseswho work different shifts especially in night shifts. To achieve the purpose, qualitative researchis used as a method. For this study, nurses who work in hospitals were interviewed in differentshifts especially in night shifts with some open-ended questions related to stress andgamification. Based on their answers, trying to evaluate and analyze the problem and findings.Based on the findings, a gamification concept was developed to provide recommendations tohandle the stress and to be motivated and engaged to develop the well-being of life.
Thiessen, Walter James. "Praying in a new reality: a social constructionist perspective on inner healing prayer." Thesis, 2003. http://hdl.handle.net/10500/837.

Full text
Abstract:
Inner healing prayer (IHP) warrants greater practical theological attention. The practice of IHP, most significantly developed by Agnes Sanford, has been described by many of those individuals and ministries that have seen God transform lives through it. This study focuses especially on the models developed by John and Paula Sandford, Leanne Payne, and Ed Smith as representative of IHP. Social constructionism, particularly as it has drawn attention to the significance of narrative, provides a fresh perspective with which to interpret what is taking place in IHP. A theology centred on Jesus' proclamation and demonstration of the in-breaking reign of God combines with social constructionism to suggest that a personal Creator God, who has a privileged perspective on reality, actively joins in the social processes by which we construct our understandings of reality. Interpreting IHP from this social constructionist perspective, this study proposes that IHP can be described as a practice in which God is invited and expected to experientially enter into the social processes by which people construct their reality. Traumatic or hurtful events have often created apparent realities that persons are unable to integrate into the central stories that identify their lives. IHP facilitates an encounter in which God•s loving, forgiving presence is experienced in the midst of such hurtful events allowing a new, more integrated and hopeful, construction of reality. The faith, hope and love of those leading in IHP and the symbolic, metaphorical language contribute to the ability of IHP to affect change at an emotional level, but the central role of the imagination, especially in visualising Jesus' presence, is the most unique and characteristic aspect. This interpretation provides a viewpoint to critique the practice of IHP and suggests some ways that an understanding of God's kingdom might further enhance its practice. A small~scale qualitative interview project offers the opportunity to assess whether this social constructionist interpretation corresponds to the way in which participants in IHP make sense of their experience. It is hoped that the constructionist perspective offered here provides a language that can broaden an understanding of IHP, enhancing dialogue and further research.
Practical Theology
D.Th. Abstract:
Context: Dizziness or vertigo is a very common clinical manifestation, usually of labyrinthic origin. However, an accurated neurological clinical examination is crucial for the diagnosis of central origin. Case report: D.F.A, 40 years old, female, white, Brazilian. She has been reportining of intense dizziness for a few months and relevant postural instability. She reports two previous hospitalizations, without a closed diagnosis, and is then referred to the specialist. On clinical examination, she had bilateral internuclear ophthalmoparesis and bidirectional nystagmus in her right eye. Requested magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the skull suggestive of demyelinating lesions in the wall of the fourth ventricle, pons and, especially, in transition between medulla oblongata and spinal cord, compatible with Neuromyelitis Optica (NMO) with manifestations of trunk syndrome. After pulse therapy, she obtained a good clinical evolution, with the maintenance of sensory deficits as a result of the injury, but with significant improvement in bilateral ophthalmoparesis and balance. Some studies already report brainstem involvement in patients with NMO, describing the presence of brainstem´s signals. Conclusion: In the case in question, therefore, the patient remained for almost two months without an accurate diagnosis, being the neurological examination the crucial factor for the suggestion of a disease of central origin, reporting a case of onset NMO with of brainstem´s signals.

Abstract:
Redox absorbance changes in living cells (monolayer of HeLa) under laser irradiation at 633, 670, and 820 nm have been studied by the method of multichannel registration in spectral range 530–890 nm. It has been found that the irradiation causes changes in the absorption spectrum of the cells in two regions, near 754–795 nm (maxima at 757, 775, and 795 nm) and near 812-873 nm (maxima at 819, 837, 858, and 873 nm). Changes occur in band parameters (peak positions, width, and integral intensity). Virtually no changes occur in the red spectral region and a few changes are recorded in the green region near 556–565 nm. The results obtained evidence that cytochrome c oxidase becomes more oxidized (which means that the oxidative metabolism is increased) due to irradiation at all wavelengths used. The results of present experiment support the suggestion (Karu, Lasers Life Sci., 2:53, 1988) that the mechanism of low-power laser therapy on cellular level is based on the electronic excitation of chromophores in cytochrome c oxidase which modulates redox status of the molecule and enhances its functional activity.

Full text
Abstract:
Human-AI collaborative decision-making has become a prevalent interaction paradigm, but the lack of transparency in AI algorithms presents challenges for humans to understand the decision-making process. Such lack of comprehension can lead to issues of over-reliance or under-reliance on AI recommendations. In this study, we focused on a human-AI collaborative income predicting task and investigated the influence of AI transparency and reliability on task performance. The results revealed that when AI reliability was high (75% and 90%), transparency had no significant effects on human decision-making. However, at a lower level of reliability (60%), higher transparency levels led to increased compliance with AI suggestions, thereby demonstrating a persuasive effect. Further analysis indicated that compliance rates only improved when AI made correct decisions, rather than when AI made incorrect ones. However, transparency did not significantly impact humans' ability to correctly reject erroneous recommendations from AI, suggesting that increasing transparency alone did not enhance humans’ error detecting ability. In conclusion, when the reliability of AI is low, heightening transparency can promote appropriate dependence on AI without elevating the risk of over-reliance. Nevertheless, further research is necessary to explore effective strategies that can assist humans in identifying AI errors effectively.

Abstract:
Introduction: Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects social communication1 .Music is great for individuals with ASD, because it interacts with the brain, contributing with cognitive and psychosocial benefits2,3. Furthermore, music is emotional and promotes movement synchronization, being a non-pharmacological option for the treatment of ASD3 . Objective: To investigate the positive impacts of using music therapy for cognition in patients with ASD. Methodology: Controlled and randomized clinical trials, in English, performed on humans, in the last 5 years, indexed on PubMed, were selected from the descriptors “autism spectrum disorder” and “music therapy”. This review was registered on PROSPERO by protocol 254495 and the PRISMA recommendation was used to improve its organization. Results: Music therapy was efficient in improving the symptoms of children with ASD, because of the better sensitivity of individuals to music than words4 . In addition, music is able to restore brain connectivity, which is altered in TEA5 . Musical and emotional attunement allows synchronization, integrating the senses and affective regulation, improving self-awareness6. During therapy, there was a reduction in the diagnostic scale of ASD, indicating an improvement in communicative and social skills. Furthermore, it was noted that children became more socially responsive, but there were differences, suggesting the need to balance individual and methodological treatment7 . Finally, music therapy contributes to children’s well-being and health8,9. Conclusion: Evidence suggests that patients with ASD can benefit from music therapy, as it explores and expands the physical and mental limits of the autistic person, stimulating agility, communication and motor control.

Abstract:
Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a group of chronic, progressive and fatal diseases, characterized by the dysfunction of the small arteries and microvasculature in the pulmonary circulation. Due to high blood pressure and high resistance in the pulmonary arteries, PAH causes detrimental damage on the lung and right heart ventricle. If left untreated, PAH quickly becomes life threatening. Although the exact pathophysiology remains unknown, there is increasing evidence suggesting that inflammation likely plays an important role in inducing and perpetuating the PAH progress. Although anti-inflammatory therapy has been shown effective in certain connective-tissue-disease-associated PAH, this approach has not been tested in other PAH conditions. The potential benefit of anti-inflammatory therapy to treat various PAH conditions could be of importance and require further study on the possible pathological mechanisms underlying the therapeutic effects.

Abstract:
Introduction: Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP) is an autoimmune disease with many possible etiologies. There are only a few reports of CIDP secondary to the use of immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy. The aim is to describe a case of CIDP secondary to the treatment of metastatic melanoma with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ipilimumab and nivolumab). Case report: A 52-year-old male patient, with arterial hypertension and hypothyroidism, presented with paresthesia and pain in the hands and forearms in November/22, that progressively spread and affected the feet in a one-month period. He then presented proximal and distal tetraparesis in January/23, leading him to depend on a wheelchair. At the time, he was being treated with immunotherapy for metastases in the pectoral muscles due to a melanoma. Symptoms’ onset and progression coincided with the therapy infusions. On examination, there were a grade 4 strength in flexion, extension, abduction and adduction of the thighs and grade 5 in other movements, with global areflexia and tactile hypoesthesia in the feet. Cerebrospinal fluid examination (CSF) showed 11 cells, predominantly with lymphocytes, and 283 mg/dL of proteins. Electromyographic studies revealed focal demyelinating neuropathy of the medians at the wrist level, with moderate to severe intensity on the right and moderate on the left, suggestive of pure motor-variant CIDP. Methylprednisolone 1g/day was given for five days with significant improvement of the condition. Results: The 2021 EFNS/PSN criteria provide diagnostic guidelines for CIDP based on clinical, electromyographic and CSF studies. Conclusion: CIDP secondary to the use of immune checkpoint inhibitors has distinct characteristics such as lymphocytic pleocytosis with slightly increased CSF cellularity and severe neuropathic pain as an initial symptom.

Abstract:
The initial wetting of a reservoir sets a limit for the EOR potential during water-based recovery operations and “Smart Water” injection. For this reason, an improved understanding of the factors influencing the wetting can help to control and better forecast oil production during water-based floods. To preserve and reproduce the original reservoir wettability is a challenging task and wrong cleaning and core restoration procedures can lead to incorrect wettability estimations and thus induce serious errors when evaluating the initial wettability of a reservoir system or its EOR potential by water-based methods. Thereby, there is a need to improve the chemical knowledge on interactions among the rock, brine and fluids present in reservoir systems. This will help to understanding the influence of the parameters affecting wettability during cleaning and core restoration processes. Understanding which are the main parameters influencing oil recovery processes is of great relevance. The objective of this document is to provide suggestions for added-value experiments, complementing and challenging the standard RCA and SCAL procedures, prior to performing experimental research in which wettability and wettability alteration processes are important. Lessons learned will be highlighted and new ideas to optimize core restoration protocols to preserve and closely reproduce wettability are put forward. These recommended practices target core restoration procedures after the core material has been received in the laboratory. The target audience for this document is engineers and scientists with an interest in core preparation for wettability studies.
