Benoit, Laelia. "Du refus scolaire au suivi psychiatrique. Trajectoires d’adolescents déscolarisés." Thesis, Université Paris-Saclay (ComUE), 2018. http://www.theses.fr/2018SACLS506.
Full textSchool refusal is an increasingly common motive for consultation in child psychiatry. According to the psychiatrists, situations leading to school refusal are extremely diverse, from anxiety feelings in the classroom to truancy, and may lead children to miss school occasionally or to give up their studies. This sociological study, uses the grounded theory to describe the career of teenagers who receive psychiatric care in France because they refuse to go to school. More than 100 in-depth interviews with teenagers, parents and school professionals allow to describe their careers from the school to the psychiatric care. First, we provide a socio-history of the medicalization of school absenteeism through the construction of medical categories (school phobia, school refusal, school attendance problems), based on a review of the international psychiatric literature from 1941 to 2018. Second, teachers discourse on school refusal, their daily management of student who refuse school and their involvement in the medicalization of the absenteeism of some pupils is analyzed. Four styles of management are described among school professionals. Third, the narratives of teenagers and of their parents are analyzed. If school refusal appears as an immediate shift, it answers to a process of long duration. For some students, struggling to attend school from day to day required a consuming work: the presentation of self in public places and emotional work towards peers. After refusing school, students ‘illness’ narratives describe their career in deconstructing and reconstructing their socialization and self

Full textThis thesis is a process of "action-research" in the sense that this research resulted in the establishment of an action for assistance to demobilized “college” secondary schools pupils, their parents and their teachers, called "Time for Thinking about School Exclusion, in partnership with several medical and social structures and “colleges”. Belonging to an interactionist perspective (Wallon, 1959), we question the part played by parents on the adolescent identity construction considered as an actor of his own development and on the meanings and behaviors he will assign to his school world. We have adopted the concept of parental involvement in reference to Deslandes et al. (2000) dimensional approach, allowing us to describe the parental educational styles and the different types of parental involvement in the schooling (Cloutier, Fortin et al, 2005). Moreover, Charlot, Bautier and Rochex (1992) studies on the relationship to knowledge have enabled us to define the concept of school mobilization. Considering self-esteem as a socio-emotional personal identity dimension (Oubrayrie et al., 1994), we operationalize it in our research as a dimension of explanatory and mediating influence of the representation of the educational parental involvement on the school mobilization of adolescents. We hypothesize that the representation of educational parental involvement by adolescents in “colleges” secondary schools, directs their self-esteem which plays a part on their school mobilization. A first exploratory study was carried out using semi-structured interviews to construct a scale of school mobilization leading to qualitative analysis (ALCESTE and N'VIVO). An extensive study has allowed us then to operationalize the dimensions of the study: parental involvement, self-esteem and school mobilization among a sample of 405 adolescents from 11 to 15 years old enrolled in “colleges” in general education. A second step validated all the scales from our sample (school mobilization, self-esteem and parental involvement), using exploratory factor analysis and the confirmatory structural equation model (LISREL). Linear regression analysis and ANOVA finally enabled us to test the direction of our hypotheses. The results support our hypothesis that self-esteem has mediating effects on the relationship between parental involvement and school mobilization. Thus, socio-emotional and school self-esteem specifically mediate the relationship between parental educational involvement (including communication father-teacher) and school mobilization. Clinical vignettes illustrate our results with two case reports of adolescents treated in psychotherapy whose issues of identity, family and school are mixed
Mario, Romain. "Conversion et influence des assujettissements au milieu scolaire dans l'étude autonome des mathématiques : comment les très bons élèves de lycée étudient les mathématiques après la classe : observation anthropologique et suivi biographique de quelques cas exemplaires." Thesis, Aix-Marseille, 2012. http://www.theses.fr/2012AIXM3001/document.
Full textIn this thesis, we were interested in the very good students and their way studying mathematics taking account of the fact that what there is to study mathematically is not always indicated by the professor in the courses of the various school grades. Based on the hypothesis that their way of studying enables them to succeed better in mathematics, we followed very good students from five different schools for two school years. Thus, using anthropological and ethnological field study methods, we observed the students after classroom hour, in their individual workplace settings (office, room or an especially arranged corner) doing exercises, investigations, mathematical research studies, each one in different way, with different didactic supports. This particular kind of observation, that we are calling the biographic episode method, enabled us to constitute episodes of their cognitive biography in mathematics, in other words moments of independent study where one can observe that they are faced with a news question, they learn something new by seeking the answer to a given problem, and they identify what they learned by questioning it in what they knew already. Thus we show how last year secondary school science students manufacture or build a directory of effective knowledge: the epistemological and heuristic directory. To build this directory, they need to seek learning away from the classroom, physically or temporally (using many textbooks or not, old textbooks, the Internet, or with the help of a family member or friend). It is this need for investigation which we call didactic transhumance

Full textThis doctoral research examine, from the case of the cancer, the tensions between serious chronic disease and schooling at the level of the high school. It is based on the study of 60 secondary pupils' school trajectories with cancer and three years old of ethnographical observation in schools and departments of cancer care. This thesis questions the temporality of the schooling in the face of the test of the disease at the level of trajectories and the school experiences of the high school students. On the long term, the management socially differentiated the disease, and it in interaction with a plurality of actors and actresses, lets in a part only of these pupils to invalidating school trajectories, which fall over to the field of the handicap. In the accompaniment of the social management of the disease, the parents, in particular the mothers, play a major role. These trajectories and experiences are marked by the sustainability of relationships of power which persist in the test of the serious illness. The square occupied by the schooling, the school and its representatives in hospital is also studied. The everyday life of the teaching in departments of care is modelled by the standards of the hospital and moved in a work of support compound of a wide beam of tasks surrounding the transmission of knowledge. Finally, this thesis comes to j underline what mean for the French school institution to welcome pupils with cancer. This one builts itself on the basis of undifferentiated pupils with no needs for specific adaptations. So, inclusion comes to push aside this building, a fortiori at the high school. Studying cancer highlights some logics: the part of the intrinsic care in teaching everyday life. A whole set of interstitial tasks as well as in a personalization of the educational relation is required in the context of serious illness
Laville, Matthieu. "L’enseignant référent : une fonction à la croisée des mondes sociaux du handicap." Caen, 2016. http://www.theses.fr/2016CAEN1001.
Full textThe “enseignant référent” : A function at the crossroads between the social worlds of handicap The legislation dating back to February 11th 2005 tends to be in favour of the principle of inclusion, based on the fact that all pupils have to go to a school which is the nearest possible to their mainstream school, and even more those with a disability. It encourages the development of new collective adjustments, between educational, medical, social and health aspects. It is in this changing context that the legislator has specified a function of “enseignant référent” (ER), who is in charge of “making sure that the permanent relations between the pupil and his parents are maintained throughout his period of education”. This research project deals with the professionalization process of this function. It is carried out under the joint headings of the social history of professions and the activity analysis. The first one deals with the inscription of this function in the field of childhood disability. The second one concentrates on the sociology of professional groups and points towards the clarification of the ER work organization tools. An exploring ethnography presents the organization of the activity of one of them. It is then used as a source in the creation of a questionnaire which is transmitted to all of the French ER. The results present a topography of the professional territories and are further completed by 21 interviews which gives further information on the way these professionals carry out their functions on a daily basis. Based on the flow of data, I have then decided to appreciate the interpretations, crystallized on a departmental basis of the legislative framework, which defines the ER function. This analysis finally leads to linking the structural dimensions of the evolutions of children’s schooling and the manners one interprets in its context the pivotal role of the ER function

Full textAdherence to controller treatment is suboptimal for a high proportion of asthmatic children despite the fact that adherence to this treatment contributes to effective long-term control of the disease and its symptoms in some studies. This study aimed to assess the extent of nonadherence to the controller treatment of asthma among asthmatic children of the Casablanca-Settat region (Morocco) and to identify associated factors. This study was conducted among caregivers who were family members of asthmatic children aged 2 to 12 years old. We assessed self-reported adherence using the Medication Adherence Scale Rating for Asthma (MARS-A). Low adherence was defined as having a MARS-A score < 45/50. Factors potentially associated with low adherence were also measured by questionnaire (personal characteristics, beliefs and behaviors, schooling and knowledge about asthma and its treatment, characteristics of the treatment and of healthcare services, economic and social environment) and were identified using univariate and multivariate log-binomial regressions. In total, 103 caregivers answered the questionnaire about the child they were caring for. Among these children, 49 (48 %) reported a low adherence level to the controller treatment (< 45). Among all the variables included in the multivariate analysis, only a low level of knowledge about asthma (PR=2.93; 95 % CI: 1.14-7.52) was associated with nonadherence. In conclusion, the level of knowledge of the caregivers appears to be an important factor of adherence to the controller treatment in this population. These results could be used to guide the design of interventions aiming to encourage adherence.

Full textIn the spite of the complexity of the search for ground on the works concerning the resiliency and particularly resiliency in school context, we were interested in the modalities and in the demonstrations of this one in establishments of the secondary sector in France, in the sensitive said building’s high schools. Seat of educational and social tensions, the relations between the actors are printed mistrust and translate social and psychosocial difficulties complicating the answer to the missions of teaching and educational, and tarnishing the image of the teenagers and the diplomas. Although the origin and the factors of dysfunction of the teenagers take root initially in problems exceeding the school, their coverage and their mediation are a matter of the education, to prepare the school’s exit and the entrance alive active and social. The appeal to the diagnosis and the solutions are registered within today institutionalized hours the objectives of which concern the development of the pupil. But when the contact got rid for years of previous academic failure, when the not sense settled down in spite of the orientation, when the behavior challenges the authority and when the early school leaving displays as a constant in progress in these establishments, how to think of an educational practice which can revive the bases of the reliable interactions between teenagers and teacher, while guaranteeing a frame of good volume in the unsettled affects by creating interactions which allow the pupil to work and to mediatize the past, to register it in a meaningful present by throwing it in the future in a harmonious way? If this educational practice allows the teacher and the educator to define his share, it’s also an educational contingency registered in the theories of the resiliency which is the faculty to bounce further to a trauma. In this optics to thwart the academic failure, to allow the creation of positive fates, off-camera of the reproduction of the failure, by being supported on the theories of the resiliency at the school, it’s possible to envisage an educational practice of coverage of the group classy of teenagers which implements these interactions between pupils and teacher according to a praxis of resiliency. And if this resiliency joins a cultural collective practice, leaning on the works of a culture and passed on by this one, it’s named cultural resiliency. Except field of therapeutics or of the psychology of group, the cultural resiliency answers the cognitive imperative to join a dialogical practice reassuring and demanding for pupils prevented from thinking, to fill the gaps and the defects of inner and previous languages. The practices of discussion with philosophic aim demonstrate that’s possible to create these spaces of mediation around the rigorous thought to develop various capacities to think guaranteeing the performance of a speech exempt from ease and from excuses. If this discussion is supported by a cultural supports of the literature, as the tales or the myths, then, a double mediation at the pupil is possible, since the isolated and silent mediation in connection with the theories of the tae towards the orals mediations which will follow the reading according to logic of philosophic questionings. If the choice of the support is ad hoc according to the recommendations of Lipman and what the tales speaks about resiliency then, it’s possible to lead discussions with philosophic aim in a praxis of driving process of cultural resiliency, which will be realized through the evolutions of the speeches of the high school students. This search for comprehensive type leans on the analysis of the speeches and the interactions in a pragmatic prospect which allows the highlit of contents registered within the framework of the cultural resiliency through factors of implementation of the process which are the link, the sense and the law. The experiment of signing of eighteen sessions of discussions [...]

Full textThis research describes and analyses the links between social inequalities in skills and the organization of the education system. Investigating data from PISA 2000 to 2009 of more than twenty European countries, I study how institutional characteristics of education systems affect the magnitude and the structure of social inequalities at the end of compulsory schooling. The variety of institutional configurations in Europe as well as an important reform of the Polish education system allows to analyse how the organization of the educational system shapes the effects of student’s social origin and school social composition on student’s skills. Multilevel analyses tend to show that educational policies that foster school differentiation are associated with higher social inequalities in skills, mainly because of a greater school composition effect. The rise in skills inequalities across the 2000 decade in France is analyzed with regards to changes in the composition of the student population and in their schooling conditions. Results of the quantile decomposition suggest that the increasing share of low-achieving students stems less from changes in the student intake than to an impaired functioning of the education system and a lower learning engagement among students

Full textRecent studies show a link between behavioural and physical indications; that is that, if behaviour shows complex and psychological conflict, then so will speech. This is why this study will examine the narratives of six-year-old children with behavioural problems (which will be followed up by RASED) in comparison with the speech of ordinary children. This study will confirm that the narrative is the fundamental process of the working psyche and its content, poor or good, must be connected to the nature of behaviour. Thus the theories of attachment and of object relations were examined. Certain aspects were looked at such as: the capacity to visualise, consistency of narratives, self-perception, representation of others including the representation of significant people (be it reassuring or not), as well as dominant interpersonal concerns. Projective studies, such as ASCT and TAT, were used and the results showed that each group possessed their own psychological function and that the existing links between these intra-psychological processes are inter-dependent. This study shows that an integrative approach to attachment theory and the theory of psychoanalytical connection with objects is both possible and useful. This is mainly to understand children brought up in socially poor surroundings. To sum up, the results of this study highlight how important it is to use narratives in order to pin point how to take charge of primary school children who exhibit behavioural problems

Full textThere can be many consequences when students have difficulties in adapting to the academic environment. They can lead to higher school dropout rates and to the adoption of delinquent behaviour. In the presence of adaptation difficulties, accompanying and monitoring the students is crucial. A monitoring program was offered to five Honoré-Mercier students presenting adaptation difficulties. The intervention program has two objectives. The first one is to decrease the number of classroom exclusions of those students. Another objective is to offer a place where they have the freedom to express their feelings openly. The results of the program are based on the number of classroom exclusion during the intervention. They are also measured on the results of an Achenbach test (Achenbach, 1991) and on the opinions of the students on their own progress. The results illustrate that the students did not significantly lower their number of classroom exclusion. They also show that some problems detected in the Achenbach test were amplified whereas types of problems decreased. Finally, the results show that students appreciated their follow-up because it allowed them to experience intrinsic changes. Based on these results, we can emit several hypotheses on the need to change the duration of the intervention or the problems experienced by the students. The potential contribution of a criminologist in an academic environment is also analyzed. Keywords: adaptation, difficulty, school, follow-up, secondary, teenager

Full textWith a view to developing and refining the tools needed to better solve the problem of school drop-out rates, this research interests itself in the accompaniment of the student and the resulting success in the school. It is addressed to the 16 to 24 year old students that are attending Québec’s FGA Education Centres. The general objective is describing what practices are used to accompany the student toward success while also identifying and describing the characteristics and objectives of said practices. In order to achieve this goal, three research questions have been studied, namely: 1) what are the accompaniment methods used in FGA; 2) what are the objectives sought with the use of these methods, and; 3) what are the characteristics of these methods? This research leans on the approach of sociology of education developed by François Dubet (1994), and proposes to examine three dimensions (pedagogical, personal, and social) as well as seven methods of student accompaniment: tutoring, counselling, pair work, assistance between peers, mentoring, cyber-mentoring, and teacher pedagogical methods. The undertaking is aimed at establishing a group of accompaniment practices for the student in his environment. All of these practices, prior to our research, had never been tabulated. The results obtained permit us to observe an important deployment of several accompaniment methods in use in FGA, including the teachers’ own pedagogical methods. In fact, tutoring and counselling are two methods that score high marks. In addition, this research has helped make it possible to document in a rather complete manner the teachers’ pedagogical methods in said student accompaniment, and to understand the dynamics of these methods in student successes at school. Upon the completion of this research, two sources of knowledge stand out. The first one emanates from the components of the theoretical model presently being studied, while the second relates to the specificity of the teachers’ pedagogical methods. In both cases the results, as well as the analyses, reveal the importance of the pedagogical dimension with respect to accompanying the FGA student, which in turn leads us back to the important contribution made by the teacher in student accompaniment in FGA, as in fact the teacher includes student accompaniment in the actual practice of teaching.
