Full textThe objective was to develop new accesses to original sulfur heterocycles involving metal-mediated processes.The first study allowed the development of new palladium-mediated syntheses of original sulfur heterocycles involving a 5 or 6-exo-dif cyclocarbopalladation reaction followed by a C-C crosscoupling. Starting from pre-organized sulfur substrates containing a C-C triple bond, we have synthesized original benzene-fused sulfur rings bearing an exocyclic, stereodefined, all-substituted double bond. In a second study, we have developed a new synthesis of aryl thiocyanates starting from thiols or disulfides using for the first time CuCn as S-cyanation agent. Then, this method taking place through a copper-mediated oxidative coupling, under mild conditions, was integrated in a three-component domino reaction involving a 2-aminobenzene disulfide, copper cyanide and an electrophile allowing the synthesis of polyfunctionalized 2-aminobenzothiazoles in good yields

Full textThe metal-free activation of the greenhouse gas SF6 using electron-rich N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) furnished 2,2-difluoroimidazolines or 2,2-difluoroimidazolidines and 2- thio derivatives of the NHC precursors. The NHCs can reduce SF4 as well to give same products. A complete degradation of an another greenhouse gas SF5CF3 also gave 2,2- difluoro- and 2-thio- derivatives along with the 2-fluoro-2-trifluoromethyl- derivative of the NHC precursors. The 1,3-dimesityl-2,2-difluoroimidazolidine [SIMes(F)2] was taken as an exemplary substrate to be applied in deoxyfluorination reactions and acyl fluorination of aldehydes via aldehydic C(sp2)–H bond activation. Additionally, the activation of SF6 and the fluorination of 1-octanol into 1-fluorooctane can be coupled in a one-pot process. Furthermore, trifluoromethylation of Me3SiCl and arenes was observed with the 1,3-dimesityl-2-fluoro-2- trifluoromethylimidazolidine [SIMes(F)(CF3)]. SIMes(F)2 was also used for the fluorination of complex [(SIMes)AlMe3] to synthesize the NHC stabilized Al(III) fluoride [(SIMes)Al(F)(Me)2]. Various alternative reaction routes have been developed to synthesize the NHC stabilized Al(III) fluorides [(SIMes)Al(F)(Me)2] and [(SIMes)Al(F)3] through the fluorination of [(SIMes)AlMe3] with SF4, SF6 and Me3SnF. The complex [(SIMes)Al(F)3] was successfully employed for a F/Cl exchange reaction by treating it with Me3SiCl to yield [(SIMes)Al(Cl)3] and Me3SiF.

Full textOxetanes are four-membered ring compounds which incorporate one oxygen atom in the ring. Oxetane rings are present in natural products and in a large panel of synthetic compounds used in drug discovery. Thietanes are four-membered ring compounds which incorporate one sulphur atom in the ring. They are less widespread in bioactive molecules and are less well studied. Both oxetanes and thietanes are high-value intermediates in organic synthesis due to their inherent ring strain. Among the different approaches known for the synthesis of these four-membered ring heterocycles, photochemical [2+2] cycloaddition strategies are among the most important in term of efficiency and functional group compatibility.In this thesis, we first focused on a photochemical approach for the synthesis of a β-amino acid containing an oxetane ring. The (2R,3S) stereoisomer of this structure is a natural product called oxetin. Our objective was to establish an efficient and expedient synthesis of the all four stereoisomers of oxetin on gram scale. The oxetane ring was built very efficiently via a photochemical [2+2] cycloaddition Paternò-Büchi reaction between commercially available N-vinyl formamide and readily available n-butyl glyoxylate.Following strategic functional group transformations, functionalized derivatives of oxetin and its diastereoisomer, epi-oxetin, were separated. Each of these racemates was resolved using a chiral oxazolidinone to provide access to all four target stereoisomers in enantiomerically pure form. In parallel, a chiral HPLC separation protocol was established on Paternò-Büchi cycloaddition products to establish an alternative access to the target compounds in large scale.We investigated the Paternò-Büchi reaction in continuous flow conditions. After optimization of the experimental procedure on a model reaction, the key step for the synthesis of oxetin was studied in detail. The efficiency of these Paternò-Büchi reactions was similar to processes conducted in batch, while the time of the reactions was reduced.In the second part of the thesis, the initial objective was to develop a thia-Paternò-Büchi photochemical synthesis of the sulphur analogue of oxetin, called thia-oxetin. However, the insuperable difficulties encountered in preparing and using thia-glyoxylates redirected our focus to related photochemical reactions between alkenes and diaryl thioketones. Very interestingly, in the model reaction of acrylonitrile with thiobenzophenone, we discovered that, in addition to the anticipated diphenyl thietane, an unexpected tetraphenyl thiolane was also formed. Conditions were established to allow the selective formation of either the thietane or the thiolane photoproduct. This unprecedented photochemical reaction between acrylonitrile and a selection of other diaryl ketones allowed us to prepare a panel of tetraarylated thiolanes.We established that the initially-formed diaryl thietane was an intermediate in the formation of the tetraaryl thiolane. The photochemical reaction between a diaryl thietane and a diaryl thioketone was therefore employed to prepare a small library of non-symmetrical tetraaryl thiolanes in a fully regioselective manner and in high yields.Mechanistic investigations were carried out in an effort to better understand this previously unknown photochemical formation of the thiolanes, and possible mechanisms for the tetraaryl thiolanes formation are discussed

Full textThe interaction of alifatic heterocyclic amines piperidine, piperazine and pyrrolidine, with sulfur dioxide yields a variety of products of different stoichiometry. The investigation of the formed species were carried out mainly by vibrational spectroscopic techniques, infrared and Raman, and electronic spectroscopy, mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance spectra were used as auxiliary techniques. The obtained results indicate that the studied species are charge transfer molecular complexes due to the frequency shifts of the symmetric stretching and angular deformation modes of sulfur dioxide in the Raman spectra. The data are in agreement with an S-O antibonding and a O-O bonding character of the LUMO of SO2. Hydrogen bonds play an important role in the complex stabilization.
