Metal ion production by minerals alone and in pairs was studied by solution analysis, extraction with ethylene diamine tetraacetate (EDTA) and laser ion mass spectroscopy (LIMS) for combinations of pyrite, pyrrhotite, galena, and sphalerite. The effect of grinding, pH, and the presence of xanthate was studied. Metal ion transfer between sulphide minerals was determined.<br>Metal ion production with minerals in pairs was different from that for single minerals. Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) are an integral part of consumer electronic devices and electric vehicles. There is a growing need for LIBs with higher capacity, rate performance and cycling stability. At the anode electrode these challenges are being addressed for instance by utilising materials with higher theoretical capacity compared to graphite (372 mAh/g) or by optimising the morphology of materials through nanostructuring of the electrode. In this thesis the former is investigated by synthesising a reduced graphene oxide (rGO) tin sulphide (SnS2) hybrid, and the latter by self-assembly of

In all cases the RE doping suppresses the intrinsic emission and results in intense luminescence characteristic of the RE dopant. Examples of this were discussed for CaS04:Ce,Mn; YAG:Nd,Tb,Cr,Mn; BaF2:Ho,Ce and BaF2:Tm,Ce. The data are discussed in terms of an energy transfer model between different parts of exten

Although optimisation of the organic (polymer) phase has received substantial attention, research into the morphology of the inorganic phase (semiconducting nanocrystals) remains limited. Most metal ions have negative impacts on pulp mill operations. The concentrations of metal ions on pulp fibers and in washwaters rise significantly with increased wastewater recycling. The development of technology to remove these metal ions requires an understanding of how metal ions are bound to pulp components. Sulphur is an important nutrient to plants, and reports of its deficiency have been increasing worldwide. Sulphur starvation causes losses in both yield and quality, and it reduces nitrogen use efficiency of plants. As the timing for fertilisation can be decisive for avoiding deleterious effects, improvements in the description of the sulphur balance in fields are a valuable contribution for assisting fertiliser management. Sulphate is the most important inorganic form of sulphur in soils. Being the mobile form, sulphate is readily available for plants, and also prone to be leached. Therefore
