Diário do Xingu, by Berta Gleiser Ribeiro, published in 1979, is a fundamental reference for readers of the past and present. The book records a variety of aspects related to indigenous life in the Xingu Park, including the “art of weaving by various tribes” (material culture) that is not disconnected from the history of cultures. To understand the complexity of the work and its transdisciplinary nature, it is worth remembering the preface written by the author who coordinated volume I of Ethnobiology (Suma Etnológica).
