Abstract:
I develop an empirical model of housing demand which is based as closely as possible on a theoretical intertemporal model of consumer demand. In the empirical model, intertemporal behavior by households is incorporated in two ways. First, a household's expected length of occupancy in a dwelling is a parameter in the model; thus, households are able to choose when to move. Second, a household's decision to move and its choice of dwelling are based on the same intertemporal utility function. The parameters of the utility function are estimated using a switching regresion model in which the deci

The thesis is concerned with one of the building blocks of the classical theory of international trade, known as the Heckscher-Ohlin (H-O) model. It consists of two parts -- in the first one, the model is briefly introduced and related theorems - theoretical extensions of the model - are presented. This introduction is then followed by a discussion on the empirical performance of the model. In the second part, the factor price equalization theorem, closely related to the original H-O model, is both theoretically and empirically analysed.

Abstract:
This thesis proposes a model reduction technique for nonlinear dynamical systems based upon combining Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD) and a new method, called the Discrete Empirical Interpolation Method (DEIM). The popular method of Galerkin projection with POD basis reduces dimension in the sense that far fewer variables are present, but the complexity of evaluating the nonlinear term generally remains that of the original problem. DEIM, a discrete variant of the approach from [11], is introduced and shown to effectively overcome this complexity issue. State space error estimates for PO

A majority of papers focused on Monetary Model but failed to make a consistent conclusion. In this article, we suggest that the failure of monetary model might be coming from the basic assumption of taking different countries’ assets as “perfect substitutes”. Under such circumstances, we introduce another model named as “Portfolio Balance Model” where assets of different countries are no longer be taken as “perfect substitutes” , implying that UIP( Uncoverd Interest
