The international roughness index (IRI) and the half-car roughness index (HRI) are the two commonly used roughness indices for pavement management, decision making, prioritization, budgeting, and planning. This work presents a new statistic, termed the full-car roughness index (FRI), for calculation of roughness from longitudinal pavement profiles. FRI is calculated from a single, equivalent profile that is a composite of four corner profiles based on both civil and mechanical engineering principles. More specifically, the full-car (four-wheel) model combines the rear and front suspension syst

Venous leg ulcers (VLUs) are a significant complication amongst persons with chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) that frequently follow a cycle of healing and recurrence. Current clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) recommend applying below knee compression to improve VLU healing. Compression could be applied if the Ankle Brachial Pressure Index (ABPI) rules out significant arterial disease, as sufficient peripheral arterial circulation is necessary to ensure safe compression use. We conducted a content analysis of 13 global CPGs on the accuracy of recommendations related to ABPI and compression

The analysis of the historical evolution of «competence» clarifies its origin and meanings. The epistemological analysis identifies the principle of efficiency as the basis of competence and also of programming and organization of educational process, based on this approach. The result of this double analysis highlights the intrinsic limits of the educational approach by competencies putting it in question.<br>El objetivo del artículo es mostrar la nec

Abstract:
AbstractGreen roofs are components of the building envelope that have become increasingly popular in urban contexts because other than providing numerous environmental benefits they are also capable of reducing building energy consumption, especially in summer. However, despite all these advantages, green roofs are still affected by some limitations. Specifically, there are some gaps affecting the energy modelling consisting in the absence of a proper database, information (growth stage, leaf area index, and coverage ratio) relative to the different green roof plant species, which technicians could use in case of lack of actual field data to perform energy analysis of buildings equipped with green roofs. These gaps concern also environmental and economic assessments of such technology. In fact, the currently available green roof LCA and LCC studies seem to underestimate the role of the substrate on the overall environmental impact and the role of the disposal phase on the life cycle cost of the green roof. In this chapter, all these aspects are addressed, and contributions to their solution, which arose from both experimental and modelling research, carried out by the authors are presented.

The purpose of this study is to propose a modified method for quantifying arterial elasticity index accounting for the effects of dynamic constraints.
