Abstract:
The present dissertation deals with the establishment of Campus Sundsvall, MidSweden University, and discusses how the architecture visualizes visions and ideas of the participants involved, the city of Sundsvall, the university and the proprietor, Akademiska Hus. The purpose is to investigate the process where the symbolic values are formulated and materialized – the interaction between architecture, language and visual material. The first chapter discusses the American tradition of campus planning and how the idea has been transformed in Sweden to represent an area, often located in the city, gathering one or more buildings used by a university. The second chapter deals with the architectural competition of Campus Sundsvall and analyzes the program, the solutions presented by the participants and eventually how Campus Sundsvall turned out in the late 1990s. The third chapter investigates the sources of the concepts of the architecture and the planning model and discusses why the city of Sundsvall was attracted by these ideas. The planning history of Sundsvall and especially Stenstaden, the city centre of Sundsvall, are central in interpreting the question of identity as a symbolic value. In the last chapter, discussing the campus as a creative space, the present increase of IT supported distance courses questions the importance of the university campus.

Problemformulering och syfte Strategisk kommunikation och platsmarknadsföring har blivit allt viktigare för städer och platser att etablera ett gott rykte och vara konkurrenskraftiga i den globala marknaden som finns idag. Det finns platsmarknadsförare som tror att deras varumärke är kontrollerbart, däremot kan det finnas breda variationer av åsikter och uppfattningar om en stad. I och med detta påstående och konflikten i det växer en problematik och frågan fram hur städer egentligen arbetar med sitt varumärke. Syftet med uppsatsen är att undersöka den strategiska kommunikationen hos en stad samt undersöka stadens image, för att se hur kommunens målsättningar och befolkningens uppfattningar förhåller sig till varandra. Metod och material Studien grundas på en intervju från kommunikationsdirektören på Sundsvalls kommun, en kvalitativ textanalys av Sundsvalls kommuns strategidokument samt diskussioner med fyra fokusgrupper bestående av medborgare i Sundsvall.
Huvudresultat Det finns flera likheter mellan Sundsvalls kommuns kommunikationsstrategier och vad teorierna beskriver om strategisk kommunikation, samt en stads varumärkesbyggande. Människor har olika uppfattningar och upplevelser och ser världen på olika sätt, på grund av detta har en plats eller en stad inte en imagebild, utan är mångsidig.

Abstract:
I syfte att sänka energianvändningen på Sundsvalls sjukhus riktas nu fokus mot ventilationssystemet och möjligheterna att där sänka luftflöden. Denna uppsats undersöker detta energibesparingsinitiativ genom att studera vad som händer med luftrörelser och temperaturer i ett rum på sjukhuset vid varierande ventilationsflöden. Metoden är rökförsök med observation och analys av mätdata som jämförs med krav på inomhusklimat och beräkningar av temperatureffektiviteten, ett kvantitativt mått på hur väl tillförd värme kommer rummets vistelsezon tillgodo. Resultaten indikerar bland annat att det kan vara till nackdel för luftkvalitén med alltför drastiska ventilationsflödessänkningar i det observerade rummet, detta fastän mängden tillförd luft är mer än tillräcklig enligt gällande krav. Bäst temperatureffektivitet uppnås då frånluft går via både frånluftsdon och frånluftsfönster vilket pekar mot att bäst förutsättningar för att sänka ventilationsflöden eller tilluftstemperatur finns med denna frånluftsinställning.
With the purpose of lowering energy consumption at Sundsvall Hospital, focus is now being directed towards the ventilation system and the possibility to reduce air flow. The thesis examines this energy-saving initiative by studying what happens to air movements and temperatures in one room at the hospital when ventilation air flow is varied. Air movements were made visible with smoke and observed and temperatures were logged. Observations and data were then analyzed with regard to indoor climate requirements and temperature efficiency, a quantitative measure of how well supplied heat will benefit a room’s occupied zone. The results indicate, among other things, that a too great reduction in air flow rates can have a negative impact on the air quality in the observed room, even though the amount of air supplied is more than sufficient according to current requirements. Best temperature efficiency is achieved when exhaust air passes through both the exhaust air device and the ventilated windows, indicating that this is the most favorable exhaust air setting for lowering ventilation air flow rates or room supply air temperature.

Syfte: Syftet med studien är att undersöka hur Sundsvalls Tidning framställt Länssjukhuset Sundsvall Härnösand vid rapporteringen om nedskärningarna, samt hur denna framställning påverkat organisationens kommunikatörers arbete. Teori: Teorier som används i studien handlar om hur händelser blir nyheter, nyhetsvärdering, media reputation samt mediernas gestaltningsmakt, med tyngdpunkt på framing. Vi tar även upp teorier om internkommunikation under förändringar och nedskärningar samt kommunikatörens roll. Metod: Kvantitativ innehållsanalys och kvalitativa samtalsintervjuer. Material: Nyhetsartiklar som berör nedskärningarna vid Länssjukhuset Sundsvall Härnösand i Sundsvalls Tidning under tidsperioden 1-28 februari 2010 samt intervjuunderlag med kommunikatörer vid Länssjukhuset Sundsvall Härnösand. Huvudsakligt resultat: Vårt resultat visade att Länssjukhuset främst framställdes genom skandalgestaltning, samt att en negativ vinkel dominerade rapporteringen. En del av denna framställning utgjordes av sjukhusledningen som lyftes fram genom personifiering samt framställdes som inkompetenta. I många fall kritiserades både sjukhusledning och landstingsledning. Medarbetarna framställdes däremot som offer i processen. Vi jämförde våra resultat från artiklarna med intervjuer med två kommunikatörer. Genom intervjuerna framkom det att den direkta påverkan på kommunikatörerna var ganska liten. De ser dock att det finns saker de skulle behöva förändra inför framtiden. De ansåg även att den stora mediala uppmärksamheten kommit som en överraskning.

Abstract:
There are different views on the cause of the onset of homelessness. For example, it is sometimes suggested that the reason lies with the individual, while others stand by the idea that the cause would be found in the country's lack of housing. The purpose of this thesis is to examine the issue of how the social workers works with the housing aid in Sundsvall at the Social Services handle applications and assess eligibility for the housing aid. The purpose is also to investigate how the social workers approach and assess the background problems of those applying for the housing aid, and how the they based on this construct clients. The theory of the present study is that presented by Michael Lipsky in "Street-level bureaucracy" - the dilemmas of the individual in public service (1980). It describes how the street-level bureaucrats, that is, those in direct contact with the public, carry out or enforce actions undertaken by the legislator and by decisions taken in the public sector. In order to be able to perform and execute decisions on the needs of the individual applicant, street-level bureaucrats have a large individual self-determination, also called discretion. It is both a prerequisite for individualized decisions, while opening up unwanted influences in decision making. To answer the purpose and the questions asked, three different methods has been used, consisting of: a document study based on assessments on the social housing aid, a vignette study with three hypothetical cases and individual follow-up interviews. The results have shown that the street-level bureaucracy/social workers uses their discretion while assessing the eligibility of the social housing aid, whilst also relying on legislative regimes. Different factors of the background problem relative to different other aspects are shown to be part of how the social workers construct clients and make their decisions regarding the housing aid.
Det finns divergerande uppfattningar om orsaken till uppkomsten av hemlöshet. Det anförs exempelvis ibland en ide om att orsaken ligger hos individen, samtidigt som andra förfäktar iden om att orsaken skulle stå att finna i att den större delen av landet har brist på bostäder. Syftet är att undersöka hur socialsekreterarna vid enheten för bostadssocialt bistånd på socialtjänsten i Sundsvalls kommun arbetar med biståndsbedömningar, men även att undersöka hur de förhåller sig till den bakgrundproblematik som de som ansöker om bostadssocialt bistånds har och hur socialsekreterarna utifrån detta konstruerar klienter. Teorin för den föreliggande studien är den som presenteras av Michael Lipsky i ”Street-level bureaucracy”- dilemmas of the individual in public service. Den beskriver hur gräsrotsbyråkraten, det vill säga den som är i direkt kontakt med allmänheten, utför eller verkställer åtgärder som föranstaltas av lagstiftaren och genom beslut tagna i den offentliga sektorn. För att kunna utföra och verkställa beslut om behov för den enskilde hjälpsökande har gräsrotsbyråkraten ett stort individuellt självbestämmande, även kallat diskretion. Den är både en förutsättning för individanpassade beslut, samtidigt som den öppnar upp för oönskade influenser i beslutstagandet. För att besvara syftet och de ställda frågorna har tre metoder använts, de består av: en dokumentstudie, en vinjettstudie, samt intervjuer. Resultatet har bland annat visat på att gräsrotsbyråkraterna/socialsekreterarna använder diskretion vid bedömningen kring bostadssocialt bistånd, samtidigt som de förlitar sig på lagstiftningar och riktlinjer. Olika faktorer i individernas bakgrundproblematik i förhållande till andra aspekter som exempelvis socialsekreterarnas erfarenhet och ålder, kulturella och ideologiska föreställningar och ekonomiska ansvar visar sig vara en del i hur socialsekreterarna konstruerar klienter.

Abstract:
Världen står inför stora utmaningar för att klara av den globala uppvärmningen och klimathotet. Som ett steg i att begränsa temperaturökningen på två grader beslutades på FN:s klimatmöte i Paris 2015 ett bindande klimatavtal som ska börja gälla 2020. För att uppnå Sundsvalls kommuns energimål med att minska energianvändningen med 20 % genomförs ett antal projekt med stor energibesparing i kommunägda fastigheter. Detta gjorde att WSP Systems anlitades år 2014 för att utföra en energikartläggning av Hedbergska skolan för att identifiera åtgärder som minskar energianvändningen, vilket resulterade i rapporten ”Förstudie energieffektivisering”. Resultatet av energikartläggningen utmynnade i energibesparingsprojektet ”Hedbergska energispar” som inkluderar olika typer av åtgärder och renoveringar.   Syftet med det här arbetet är att följa upp och utvärdera den tidigare förstudien för att se hur utfallet blev med energianvändningen och kostnader. Målet är att komma med förslag till andra eller förbättrade tillvägagångssätt vid arbeten som Förstudie energieffektivisering. Hedbergska skolans energianvändning var år 2013 2250 MWh fördelat på 1600 MWh fjärrvärme och 650 MWh el vilket motsvarar en specifik energianvändning på 241 kWh/m2, år. Rekommenderade åtgärder som presenterades i Förstudie energieffektivisering beräknas minska den totala energianvändningen med 35,5 %, till 157 kWh/m2, år, med åtgärder som inkluderar bland annat byte av fönster, nytt ventilationssystem och ny belysning. När Hedbergska energispar är avslutat beräknas energianvändningen att ha minskat med 41,3 %, till 143 kWh/m2, år, detta utan att byta fönster. Kostnaderna har dock blivit höga i Hedbergska energispar. Det är svårt att dra några slutsatser från arbetet med uppföljningen eftersom att det genomförda projektet skiljer sig på flera områden från vad som rekommenderades i förstudien. Detta resulterar i att de beräkningar som presenterades i förstudien påverkas och därför inte längre är aktuella. Rekommendationer utifrån arbetet är att tydligt klargöra vad förstudien kommer att användas till och hur stora kostnader för åtgärder beställaren kan acceptera. Beräkningsmässigt bör fokus ligga på att göra djupare beräkningar för åtgärder inom belysning och ventilation med senaste klimatdata.
The world faces major challenges to cope with global warming and climate change. As a step in limiting temperature rise by two degrees, the UN Climate Change Conference in Paris 2015 decided on a binding climate agreement to begin in 2020. In order to achieve the energy goals of the municipality of Sundsvall in reducing energy consumption by 20%, a number of projects with high energy savings in municipal property are being implemented. WSP Systems was contacted in 2014 and preformed an energy survey in the school “Hedbergska skolan” to identify measures for reducing energy usage, resulting in the pre-study report "Förstudie energieffektivisering". The result of the energy audit resulted in the energy saving project "Hedbergska Energispar" which includes various types of measures and renovations. The purpose of this work is to evaluate the potential of energy savings and the cost-effectiveness in the measures recommended in the report Förstudie energieffektivisering. In order to improve future energy projects, this work will present different kind of suggestions of improvements in the approach of energy surveys. In 2013 the energy use of Hedbergska skolan was 2250 MWh of which 1600 MWh where district heating and 650 MWh where electricity. The energy performance of the school was 241 kWh/m2/year in 2013. The recommended energy measures in Förstudie energieffektivisering where calculated to decrease energy consumption by 35,5% and to result in an energy performance of 157 kWh/m2/year. These energy savings where obtained by actions including; changing windows, new ventilation system and new indoor lightning system. The project, Hedbergska energispar will have a decrease of energy usage by 41,3% and an energy performance of 143 kWh/m2/year when finished, without changing the windows. However, this comes with high costs. There are some difficulties in comparing the result of the energy savings project to the energy audit report since the project differs in some ways from the pre-study. Therefore, it is difficult to draw conclusions from this. As a consequence, the calculation presented in the pre-study energy audit are affected by this and can no longer be used as a basis for actions. Recommendations based on the work with the evaluation are to clarify what the purpose of the energy audit is and what costs for actions are acceptable for the client. Energy calculations should be focused on more extensive calculations for indoor lightning and ventilation using the latest climate data.

Abstract:
Energy efficiency is important both to reduce costs and to reduce greenhouse gas in the atmosphere. In Sweden 40 percent of the energy consumption is related to the buildings sector. Hospitals are complex buildings with different activities in the same building, which requires flexible technical systems for ventilation, heating and lightning. A quarter of the total energy consumption in Swedish hospitals is related to user activities in the hospitals. Therefore it is not only important to work with operational optimization but also to change user activities, to reduce energy consumption. The objective of this thesis was to examine the user-related energy efficiency work at two care units, at the central hospital in Sundsvall within Västernorrlands County. The potential of user-related energy efficiency work at the two care units was examined through three questions:  How much energy does a care unit use and for what? What is the potential to reduce user-related energy consumption in the two specific care units and what barriers are there? How can the potential increase and the barriers be reduced? The results of this study identify lighting as the user-related field that uses most energy. The results show that the potential to reduce user-related energy consumption at the two care units are in the health workers positive attitudes towards energy efficiency and in installation of energy efficient lighting with user friendly light control systems. The barriers to reduce energy consumption are lack of time, lack of specific information about energy efficiency work at the care units, lack of incentive for the health workers and the high installation cost for new lightning systems. The recommendations for the county are to give feedback on the energy efficiency work at the care units and to work with incentive and action programs such as “Gröna avtal”.

I Medelpad så kommer man under hösten eller vintern att arbeta med en för polismyndigheten ny metod som kallas för ”Tio i topp”. Den går ut på att man har en lista över cirka 10 personer som är yrkeskriminella och som begår väldigt många till antalet vardagsbrott. Denna stora mängd vardagsbrott klaras sällan upp men kostar betydande summor för samhället. Listan skall innehålla information om de mesta aktiva brottslingarna och den skall uppdateras ständigt. De poliser som ser eller träffar på en kriminell som finns på listan skall lägga in på listan vart den kriminelle var, var på väg och vilka han umgicks med eller annan information som kan vara till nytta, nästan som en punktmarkering. Meningen är att man skall kunna knyta brottslingen till brotten som begås och att brottslingen alltid skall känna sig påpassad av polisen och därmed avstå från att begå brotten. Detta arbetssätt har stöd i både beslutsteorin och rutinaktivitetsteorin.

Resurssnål produktion är en teori om hur produktionsplanering i ett företag kan förbättras, vilket syftar till att öka effektiviteten och skapa en bättre arbetssituation för medarbetarna i företaget. Examensarbetets övergripande syfte har varit att med stöd i denna teori ta fram ett optimerat och verklighetstroget truckkörschema för dagens interna transporter vid Emhart Glass i Sundsvall. Målsättningen har varit att jämföra de interna transporterna med de behov som finns i företaget, att identifiera hur ofta transporter av tomma lastpallar sker samt att klar-göra om en dubbelpallshantering innebär tidsmässigt vinst. En kart-läggning av de interna transporterna och arbetsställenas behov av lastpallar har genomförts. Informationen från kartläggningen har implementerats i programmet Matlab, där en algoritm för beräkning av ett körschema har skapats som tar hänsyn till dagens tidshantering av lastpallar och sannolikheten att truckförarna lastar av och på lastpallar vid olika arbetsställen. Jämförelsen av arbetsställenas behov och truck-körningarna visar att behoven vid arbetsställena och dagens truckkör-ning stämmer ganska bra överens. Med stöd av kartläggningen har ett truckschema kunnat konstrueras för enkelpallshantering samt för dubbelpallshantering. Körschemana visar att det finns möjligheter till optimering av de interna transporterna. Den viktigaste slutsatsen har varit att kunna visa att truckförarnas trucktransporter kan både fören-klas och effektiviseras genom ett körschema, och det i sin tur kan leda till att arbetssituationen blir mer effektiv och mindre stressig.

Abstract:
This chapter presents several multicultural education experiences in Higher Education devoted to computing education and developed under IP and other international specific sessions where students’ teamwork is analyzed while developing a case study and was supported by the use of technology. This enables a reasonable management of workshop data to allow auto-evaluation as well as a joint discussion of the benefits of the work. The collaborative and e-learning environments also covered the support of work before attendance during the intensive weeks. The chapter presents results of the analysis of behavior of students showing the influence of gender and cultural background in individual and group performance. In general, data and information from 6 editions (Amsterdam, 2005; Sundsval, 2006; Copenhagen, 2007; Spain, 2008; Michigan, 2009; Espoo, 2010) are included and show how these experiences have positive effects on students’ perception of teamwork and collaboration in multicultural environments.
