The Physician Payments Sunshine Act (“Sunshine Act”), enacted to address financial conflicts in health care, is the first comprehensive federal legislation mandating public reporting of payments between drug companies, device manufacturers, and medicine. This article analyzes the Sunshine Act's uneven record, exploring how the law serves as an intriguing example of the uncertain case for transparency regulation in health care. The Sunshine Act's bumpy rollout demonstrates that commanding transparency through legislation can be arduous because of considerable implementation challenges. Capturin

Background: Industry involvement in neurosurgical research is common, creating financial conflicts of interest (COIs). Most journals require voluntary disclosure of financial COIs. In 2013, the Sunshine Act (SA) was passed in the US, mandating industry disclosure of all payments to physicians. The accuracy of voluntary disclosure can now be determined by comparing voluntary author disclosure with industry data. Methods: We reviewed disclosure statements and calculated rates of voluntary disclosure in major neurosurgical journals before (2011) and after (2013) the Sunshine Act to determine if v

It grows in tropical areas, and does best with a rainfall of 2000 mm or more per year, no marked dry or wet seasons, and considerable sunshine. Recently its area has expanded rapidly, and by the year 2000 its main product, palm oil, which is used primarily for making margarine and other edible fats, is expected to have almost quadrupled its present output.
