Abstract. the article deals with the speech manipulation as a means of expression of persuasiveness in discourse. Manipulation is treated as a peculiar communicative-speech strategy to influence the addressee in the political discourse, which is implemented through a set of tactics. The selection of tactics is greatly affected by the conceptual style of the author of political discourse. The article deals with the analysis of the tactics, through which the strategy of negative presentation of “others” is realized, namely, the tactics of “Super-Generality” and

Abstract:
Sparse representation has recently attracted enormous interests in the field of image super-resolution. The sparsity-based methods usually train a pair of global dictionaries. However, only a pair of global dictionaries cannot best sparsely represent different kinds of image patches, as it neglects two most important image features: edge and direction. In this paper, we propose to train two novel pairs of Direction and Edge dictionaries for super-resolution. For single-image super-resolution, the training image patches are, respectively, divided into two clusters by two new templates represent

It is observed that the "ghost" (originally discovered by Landau in quantum electro-dynamics) and its counterparts in other theories are indeed ubiquitous as they occur in a one-loop approximation to any conventional (unbroken) gauge theory. The mechanism is first exposed in its generality via the Dyson equation and a simple but explicit example in condensed matter is provided through the static Clausius–Mossotti equation and its dynamic counterpart, the Lorenz–Lorentz equation. The physical phase transition phenomenon associated with it is found to be super-radiance. We verify quantitatively

Abstract:
In this paper, we study practical generalized synchronization of uncertain chaotic system with a given manifold Y = H(X). We construct a class of the bi-directionally coupled chaotic systems with impulsive control, and demonstrate theoretically that the bi-coupled systems could realize practical generalized synchronization on the basis of stability theory of impulsive differential equations. Numerical simulations with super-chaotic system are provided to further demonstrate the effectiveness and generality of our approach.

Although deep learning-based approaches for video processing have been extensively investigated, the lack of generality in network construction makes it challenging for practical applications, particularly in video restoration. As a result, this paper presents a universal video restoration model that can simultaneously tackle video inpainting and super-resolution tasks. The network, called Video-Restoration-Net (VRN), consists of four components: (1) an encoder to extract features from each frame, (2) a non-local network that recombines features from adjacent frames or different locations of a

Compressed sensing (CS) is a popular data compression theory for many computer vision tasks, but the high reconstruction complexity for images prevents it from being used in many real-world applications. Existing end-to-end learning methods achieved real time sensing but lack theory guarantee for robust reconstruction results. This paper proposes a neural network called RootsNet, which integrates the CS mechanism into the network to prevent error propagation. So, RootsNet knows what will happen if some modules in the network go wrong. It also implements real-time and successfully reconstructed

Abstract Oncostatin M (OM) transforms the lymph node (LN) into a “super lymphoid organ” with 2 striking features: massive thymus-independent T-cell development and major expansion of the memory T-cell pool. We report that T-cell development in the LckOM LN is regulated by a cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2)–dependent neoangiogenesis involving high endothelial venules (HEVs). That LN HEVs are particularlyrich in OM-receptor β-chain provides aplausible explanation for the fact that extrathymic T-cell development in LckOM mice is limited to the LN. Moreover, we found that increased production of the CCL20

Abstract:
2D irregular shape packing is a necessary step to arrange UV patches of a 3D model within a texture atlas for memory-efficient appearance rendering in computer graphics. Being a joint, combinatorial decision-making problem involving all patch positions and orientations, this problem has well-known NP-hard complexity. Prior solutions either assume a heuristic packing order or modify the upstream mesh cut and UV mapping to simplify the problem, which either limits the packing ratio or incurs robustness or generality issues. Instead, we introduce a learning-assisted 2D irregular shape packing met

The Escherichia coli GABA (γ-aminobutyric acid) permease GabP is a prototypical APC (amine/polyamine/choline) super-family transporter that has a CAR (consensus amphipathic region) containing multiple specificity determinants, ostensibly organized on two helical surfaces, one hydrophobic [SHS (sensitive hydrophobic surface)] and the other hydrophilic [SPS (sensitive polar surface)]. To gauge the functional effects of placing alanine insertions at close intervals across the entire GabP CAR, 64 insertion variants were constructed. For the most popular method of scan formation in Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) based on plane-parallel scanning of the illuminating beam, we present a compact but rigorous K-space description in which the spectral representation is used to describe both the axial and lateral structure of the illuminating/received OCT signals. Along with the majority of descriptions of OCT-image formation, the discussed approach relies on the basic principle of OCT operation, in which ballistic backscattering of the illuminating light is assumed. This single-scattering assumption is the main limitation, wh

Abstract:
The notion of a universe of types was introduced into constructive type theory by Martin-Löf (1975). According to the propositions-as-types principle inherent in type theory, the notion plays two roles. The first is as a collection of sets or types closed under certain type constructions. The second is as a set of constructively given infinitary formulas. In this paper we discuss the notion of universe in type theory and suggest and study some useful extensions. We assume familiarity with type theory as presented in, for example, Martin-Löf (1984). Universes have been effective in expanding th
