Abstract:
The article aims at the analysis of the concept of superbia and its derivatives (superbus, superb) in Cicero’s works on the basis of the quantitative method and the method of content-analysis. The concept and its derivatives are used by Cicero for more than 90 times. The political and juridical usages of the concept prevail over the philosophical and ethical ones. In the political context, the mentioned concept is more often met in Cicero’s invectives, being an accusatory instrument against the politicians who abuse their power. For the same, accusatory, reasons serves the image of Tarquinius

Creeping bentgrass (Agrostis stolonifera L.) is an important cool-season turfgrass species widely used for golf course putting greens; however, it experiences a summer stress-induced quality decline in the U.S. transition zone and other regions with similar climates.

Three intergeneric hybrids among colchicaceous ornamentals, Gloriosa superba ‘Lutea’ (2n = 2x = 22), Littonia modesta (2n = 2x = 22), and Sandersonia aurantiaca (2n = 2x = 24), were subjected to morphological characterization and chromosome observation. Hybrid plants produced flowers 2 to 3 years after transplantation of ovule culture-derived plantlets to the greenhouse. All the hybrid plants, L. modesta × S. aurantiaca, L. modesta × G. superba ‘Lutea’, and S. aurantiaca × G. superba ‘Lutea’, showed a climbing habit like those of L. modesta and G. superba ‘Lutea’. The main objective of this study was to reveal the molecular mechanism of the albinism in Schima superba and to identify the related functional genes to provide theoretical support for the optimization of S. superba seedling nursery technology. Combining third-generation SMRT sequencing with second-generation high-throughput sequencing technology, the transcriptomes of normal seedlings and albinism seedlings of S. superba were analyzed and the sequencing data were functionally annotated and deeply resolved. The results showed that 270 differentially expressed transcripts were screened by analy

The article analyses Dante’s explanatory paraphrase and exegesis of the Lord’s Prayer, which opens the eleventh canto (v. 1–24) of Purgatory. The author reminds us that the prayer is the only one fully recited in the entire Comedy and this devotional practice is in line with the Franciscan prescription to recite it in the sixth hour of the Divine Office when Christ died on the cross. The prayer is reported by the poet on the first terrace of Purgatory, where the proud and vainglorious must learn the virtue of humility, and therefore it symbolizes the perfect reciprocity between man and Godhead

Abstract Euphausia superba is an abundant element in the marine plankton on the planet. Despite substantial research on this species, there is no comprehensive understanding of the population genetics of E. superba yet. In this study, the ND6 gene was used to assess the genetic variation in E. superba. In the South Shetland Islands, the population of E. superba shows abundant genetic variation, but we found a lack of genetic structure. An analysis of the demographic history suggested that a sudden expansion has been responsible for its high biomass. Our study could not only broaden our compreh

Terminalia superba (Combretaceae) is a plant which is used in Cameroon for the treatment of many diseases including arterial hypertension. The vasorelaxant effect of the aqueous stem bark extract of T. superba was evaluated on the isolated aorta rings of the rat constricted with KCl (60 mM) or norepinephrine (10-5 M). Cumulative concentrations (20-100 µg/mL) of T. superba provoked a dose-dependent relaxation of the thoracic aorta precontracted by norepinephrine or KCl. The maximum vasorelaxant activity of T. superba was 107.24 ± 7.01% on the intact aorta and 102.48 ± 19.09% on the denuded aort

Abstract:
Cerebral malaria is one of the most severe complications of malaria, primarily caused by Plasmodium falciparum. The search for alternative or complementary treatments to classical antimalarial therapies is crucial in light of the emergence of drug resistance. Terminalia superba, a tropical medicinal plant, has traditionally been used to treat various diseases, including those with parasitic etiology. This study aims to evaluate the potential of Terminalia superba in managing cerebral malaria. Ethanolic extracts of T. superba were obtained by maceration of the bark of the plant in 70% alcohol.
