Abstract:
This article deals with issues that arise when analyzing Romance languages. Firstly, the author investigates the problem of determining the number of Romance languages and their classification. In modern linguistics, these issues remain unresolved. The classification of Romance languages changed depending on what grounds were proposed to be taken as its basis. Moreover, the status of some Romance languages remains controversial, so different authors list a different number of Romance languages. Secondly, the article describes the process of Romance languages formation: an attempt is made to ex

Besides ordinary branes such as D-branes, string theory is known to contain exotic branes which are related to ordinary branes by U-duality. Exotic branes are codimension-two objects and have non-trivial U-duality monodromies around them. This means that they are intrinsically non-geometric. Even if one starts with a system only with ordinary branes, exotic branes can be spontaneously generated by the supertube effect. We argue that, if one puts together more than two mutually supersymmetric branes, then, by a multi-stage supertube effect, the system will polarize into an exotic brane extendin

On the basis of data drawn from the TMA system of Haitian creole, as compared with those of its source languages — French, the superstratum language, and Fongbe, one of the substratum languages — this paper argues that creolization does not involve a break in transmission of grammar. The properties of the Haitian creole TMA system are shown to reflect in a systematic way those of its contributing languages. Contact varieties of English provide strong evidence for synchronically active constraints, as it is substrate or L1 constraints that are regularly transferred to the contact variety, not rules.
