Abstract:
Selected reducing agents were applied to cotton knitting dyeing with C.I. sulfur black 1, and followed by acid cellulase treatment. The K/S value, fuzz removal rate, sulphurs content of fabric and COD value of the residues was measured to evaluate the cellulase performance. The results show that minimum sulphur content detected when glucose was used as reducing agent, which exhibited maximum fuzz removal, whereas maximum sulphur content detected when sodium sulfide was used as reducing agent, which gave minimum fuzz removal. It is concludes that ecological sulfur black dyeing with sulphur-free reducing agent could decline the suphur content in the fabric and promote cellulase performance.

Abstract:
A huge variety of nano-objects, allowing specific reactions at well-defined positions can be generated using oxo-molybdenum compounds based building blocks and fragments. On the other side, the use of suphur-based interfaces as metal-based organic materials is a new area with many potential applications in medicine, particularly as implants. In that respect, as precursors for building new materials with pronounced characteristics five new dioxomolybdenum(VI) complexes of the general formula [MoO2(Rdtc)2] have been used in the present work. Their predicted geometries optimized by the MO calculations are in excellent agreement with the reported crystal structure data, and therefore can be used as models for docking study between complexes and biomolecules. In silico screening for complex-protein interaction will be able to predict behavior of such materials implanted in living systems.

A series of thiourea ligand , N-N'- diphenyl thiourea [I] [DPTH], N-phenyl-N'-[2-phenoyl] thiourea [II] [PPTH], N-phenyl-N'-[2-chlorophenyl] thiourea III [PCPTH], N-phenyl-N'- [5-chloro-2-methyl phenyl] thiourea IV [PCMPTH] and N- phenyl -N'-(5-chloro-2-methoxy phenyl) thiourea V (PCMTPTH) and their transition metal complexes of the type ML2 and ML2 Cl2 have been synthesized by reacting phenyl isothiocyanate with substituted aniline and transition metal salts. These newly synthesized ligands and their complexes were characterized by elemental and spectral studies. Based upon these studies it was revealed that in all the cases metal is coordinated through suphur group of thioamide of ligands. In case of nickel complexes, the nickel is coordinated to both oxygen and sulphur. In all the complexes metal is tetra coordinated forming a square planer geometry.

Abstract:
New series of 2-mecapto benzoxazole derivatives (1-20) incorporated into fused to different nitrogen and suphur containing heterocyclic were prepared from 2-meracpto benzoxazole, when treated with hydrazine hydrate to afford 2-hydrazino benzoxazol (1). Compound (1) converted to a variety of pyridazinone andphthalazinone derivatives (2-4) by reaction with different carboxylic anhydride. Also, reaction of (1) with phenyl isothiocyanate and ethyl chloro acetate afforded 3-phenyl-1,3-thiazolidin-2,4-dione-2-(benzoxazole-2-yl-hydrazone) (6). Azomethines (7-10) were prepared through reaction of (1) with aromatic aldehyde, then (7, 8) converted to thaizolidinone derivatives (11, 12). Treatment of (1) with active methylene compounds afforded derivative (13). Reaction of (1) with CS2 and NaOH gave 1,2,4-triazole derivative (14). Treatment of (1) with p-bromophenancyl bromide afforded another 1,2,4-triazole (15). The reaction of 2-mercapto benzoxazole with chloro acetic acid gave (16) followed by refluxing (16) with ortho-amino aniline giving benzimidazol (17). Moreover, the reaction of 2-mercapto benzoxazole with ethyl chloroacetate afforded (18), and then reaction of (18) with thiosemicarbazide and 4% NaOH leads to ring closure giving 1,2,4-triazole derivative (20). All compounds were confirmed by their melting point, FT-IR, UV-Vis spectra and 1H-NMR spectra for some of them.

Abstract:
In a subalpine balsam fir forest in Quebec, Canada, mass losses, respiration rates, and nitrogen and sulphur dynamics were measured on fir needles, birch leaves, lichens (mixed species), and small twigs decomposing under deep (> 1.5 m) winter snow for 6 months. Mass losses ranged from <6% (twigs) to 70% (lichens) and relative decomposition rates of needles and leaves were reversed from those expected at higher temperatures. Isolation of fir needles from direct contact with the snow did not affect decay rate, nor was decay accelerated by spring snowmelt. In situ respiration rates increased from about 1 mg CO2/(g∙day)) in February to 3–5 mg CO2/(g∙day)) in May, mostly because of rising temperatures. Summer respiration rates were much higher (> 6 mg CO2/(g∙day)). Nitrogen and suphur concentrations increased in all nonwoody litter over winter, but only birch leaves and some fir needles appeared to assimilate nutrients from the environment. Melting snow could easily have provided all of the nitrogen and sulphur taken up by decomposing litter. Decomposing lichens released 40 and 60%, respectively, of their initial nitrogen and sulphur contents. A literature review indicates mass losses from leaf litter decomposing under deep snow vary according to the proportion of labile material in the litter and usually constitute 40–60% of total first-year mass losses. Key words: decomposition, winter, balsam fir, snow.

Abstract:
Mineralization of carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus and suphur was studied by incubating soil samples for 90 days at 30°C temperature with four different organic materials viz. Press mud, sugarcane trash, paper mill bagasse and pine needle. The results showed that the carbon mineralization in soil was significantly higher from sugarcane trash followed by press mud as compared to control. The cumulative percent of carbon mineralization increased with incubation period and maximum mineralization was recorded at 90 DOI (days after incubation). The maximum cumulative percent N-mineralization (16.88%) in soil was shown by paper mill bagasse followed by sugarcane trash and pine needle. The percent N-mineralization from all added organic amendments increased incubation period up to 45days of incubation DOI (days after incubation) after then it gradually declined, while the pine needles showed maximum cumulative P-mineralization in soil followed by sugarcane trash while minimum was recorded from press mud. The paper mill bagasse showed highest cumulative S-mineralization in soil followed by sugarcane trash. Irrespective of organic wastes, cumulative S-mineralization significantly increased after 15 days of incubation up to 45 days later on it showed declined trend. Among the organic wastes, sugarcane trash showed maximum Cmineralization in soil exhibited fast decomposition in comparison to other wastes. So, it can be used for composting. The paper mill bagasse showed more N and S mineralization while maximum mineralization of P was found in pine needle. The press mud and sugarcane trash showed potential for short duration enriched compost.

Supper-deep diaphragm wall construction of a Tianjin traffic hub project penetrated through many soil layers and two layers of confined water, geological and hydraulic conditions were complicated. Some special technologies including grooving methods,anti-collapse measures, verticality controlling measures, joint treatment measures and steel reinforcement cage hoisting measures were adopted for the construction. The project was finished with short time, low cost and good quality. Engineering practice shows that these technologies were appropriate for constructing supper-deep diaphragm wall under complicated geological and hydraulic conditions. These experiences can give some references to the similar super-deep diaphragm wall construction of Tianjin and other regions in future.

Full text
Abstract:
Waste-fired boilers suffer severely from corrosion of critical components such as superheater tubes. In this work the high temperature corrosion of candidate superheater alloys have been investigated by detailed laboratory studies and controlled field exposures in full-scale boilers. In a laboratory study the detrimental effect of gaseous hydrochloric acid (HCl) on three  different ground surface and preoxidised austenitic stainless steels was investigated. Exposures were conducted in an environment comprising N2-10O2-5H2O-0.05HCl at both 400 °C and 700 °C. A positive effect of preoxidation is evident when the alloys are exposed at 400 °C. Oxide layers formed during preoxidation effectively suppress chlorine ingress and lower the corrosion rate for all three materials while accelerated corrosion and chlorine accumulation at the metal/oxide interface is detected for ground surface specimens. The positive effect of preoxidation is lost at 700 °C and corrosion resistance is dependent on alloying level. At 700 °C metal chloride evaporation contributes significantly to the material degradation. Based on the results, high temperature corrosion in the presence of gaseous HCl is discussed in general terms.  In two different waste-fired boilers measures for counteracting superheater corrosion were investigated. In a grate-boiler the deposit formation and high temperature corrosion of some candidate superheater materials were studied. Metal loss measurements showed unacceptably high corrosion rates for the lower alloyed ferritic steels 13CrMo44 (Fe-1Cr-0.5Mo) and HCM12A (Fe-11Cr-2W), as well as for the austenitic Super 304 (Fe-18Cr-9Ni-3Cu). The corrosion attack for these alloys was manifested by the formation of mixed metal chloride/metal oxide scales. A different type of behaviour was seen for the higher alloyed austenitic steels and nickel-base alloys, which were able to form a chromium-enriched oxide next to the metal. However, the alloys suffered from localised pitting attack. Since analyses of the deposit revealed appreciable amounts of low melting salt mixtures such as ZnCl2-KCl, PbCl2-KCl, FeCl2-KCl and NaCl-NiCl2, oxide dissolution in these molten salts is the probable reason for pitting attack. In a waste-fired boiler ammonium sulphate solution was added to the flue gas and the effect on flue gas and deposit composition was evaluated. It was evident that the sulphur-rich additive reduced the amount of alkali chlorides in both the flue gas and the deposit. Results also indicated that the initial corrosion rates were lowered with the use of ammonium sulphate. It was concluded that using the additive could be a possible strategy for changing the flue gas chemistry so that superheater corrosion is mitigated.

Abstract:
The transition metal carbonyls [Re2(CO)10], [Mn2(CO)10] and [Ru(CO)3(PPh3)2], and elemental iodine have been reacted with Xe(OSeF5)2. The products have been fully characterised by a combination of mass spectrometry, infrared spectroscopy 19F, 13C and 31P{1H} (where appropriate) NMR spectroscopies. Further characterisation of the novel compounds Xe(OSeF5)2, [Re(CO)5(OSeF5)] and [Mn(CO)5(OSeF5)] by EXAFS spectroscopy is reported. An extensive review of the halogen oxide fluorides has been carried out and attempts were made to synthesise a range of fluorides and oxide fluorides of bromine. The bromine fluorides [BrF2][AsF6], [BrF4][Sb2F11], K[BrF4] and Cs[BrF6] were successfully characterised using EXAFS spectroscopy. The compound Cs[BrOF4] has been synthesised and the application of EXAFS spectroscopy has yielded internal bond parameters. The area of fluorosulphate chemistry has been reviewed and reactions have been carried out between the superacid HSO3F and a range of transition metal carbonyl complexes and Ti, Hf and Zr derivatives. The complexes produced were characterised using mass spectrometry, infrared spectroscopy and 1H, 13C, 13C{1H} and 19F NMR spectroscopies. The protonation of the carbonyl clusters [Ir4(CO)12], [Os3(CO)12] and [Ru3(CO)12] by HSO3F was investigated. The systems are found to be the same as those previously observed for the superacid AHF.

Abstract:
This chapter looks at Alfred Hitchcock's last finished film, Family Plot (1976). Family Plot is an amusing light-hearted mystery which saw the Master return to sunnier climes (Northern California). But the notion that Hitchcock was mellowing is a false one. The last film he worked on, abandoned due to his failing health, was to be The Short Night. Based on the story of the escaped spy George Blake, starring Sean Connery, Clint Eastwood, or Walter Matthau playing opposite Liv Ullmann or Catherine Deneuve and set in London and Finland, the script was to be written by Ernest Lehman, the screenwriter of North by Northwest (1959). However, Lehman left the project over Hitchcock's desire to include a graphic rape scene. This is history repeating itself, as a similar row about sexual violence had led The Birds (1963) screenwriter Evan Hunter to walk out on Marnie (1964).
