Abstract:
Switch power supply is a power supply of maintaining the stable output voltage by the use of modern electronic technology, controlling the time ratio (duty cycle) of on and off of switching transistors . Push-pull switch power supply is a form of switching power supply family, which is divided into an independent-excited push-pull switch power supply and self-excited push-pull switch power supply. This paper will put forward an design scheme of the independent-excited push-pull switch power supply based on the design requirements, and the driving integrated circuit selection according to the design scheme of the push-pull switch power, at the same time, the switching transistors and rectifier diode selection through the calculation. The number of turns on a switch transformer is calculated according to the input and output voltage. Considering the skin effect and the proximity effect, switch transformer winding method is selected and the power supply meets the requirements of design according to the saber2007 simulation and implementation.

Abstract:
The successful implementation of push-pull supply chain management strategy has an important role in improving the competitiveness of an organization. The objective of a push-pull strategy is to minimize the holding of inventory level in finished form and rather produce finished goods from semi-finished inventory only upon receiving final order. One of the vital building blocks of push-pull supply chain strategy is postponement. The main objective of this review paper is to discuss the concept of postponement and its sub-categories such as product postponement and process postponement and their benefits. Then it is investigated how two prominent fast fashion retailers who are also categorized as original brand manufacturers in the apparel value chain apply the two variants of process postponement e.g. process standardization and process re-sequencing in their manufacturing operations to activate push pull supply chain strategy. The push-pull supply chain strategy in turn helps to reduce their order-to-delivery lead time to stores, reduce inventory holding level and minimize both physical costs and market mediation costs. The paper ends with concluding remarks. A framework is developed to illustrate the push-pull supply mechanism. This paper is a useful resource for practitioners in apparel supply chain willing to remove inefficiencies, costs and risks in their operations.

Abstract:
The article focuses on the procurement need specification of goods to support the operations of organisations, and how product supply chain processes are organised to fulfil customers’ procurement needs. Ten methods of procurement need specification for business purposes are dealt with. Product supply chain processes are executed as either ‘push’ or ‘pull’, or ‘push-pull’ oriented. Each of the approaches is discussed. Summaries of (a) the characteristics of the push and pull portions of supply chains; and (b) the spectrum of supply chain responses to customer demands are supplied

Abstract:
Purpose Previous researchers have studied push and pull contracts in the single product scenario, although in practice, supply chains often produce and sell multiple products. In a multiproduct scenario, the sales of a product will be influenced by its complements or substitutes, which requires consideration when the supply chain members negotiate contracts. This paper aims to fill this gap by studying push and pull contracts in a supply chain which distributes two products to a market and discusses how the degree of complementarity/substitutability between the two products affects the supplier’s decisions and supply chain efficiency. Design/methodology/approach The paper uses the model of a single-supplier, single-retailer supply chain which sells a product with a long lead time and another product with a short lead time simultaneously in a market. This research compares the production quantity and supply chain efficiency under a push contract with those under a pull contract. Findings First, when the two products are complements, the equilibrium production quantity of Product 2 is higher under a pull contract than that under a push contract. Second, a pull contract is found to be optimal for both the supplier’s profit and supply chain efficiency when the two products are complements, while if they are substitutes, then a push contract is the better choice in some situations. Originality/value The existing literature discusses push and pull contracts in the single product scenario. The current paper pays attention to the two-product scenario and investigates how the complementarity/substitutability degree between the two products affects the supplier’s decisions and supply chain efficiency.

Abstract:
The reuse of iron and steel scrap has high economic value as well as ecological benefits. By analyzing existing process of iron and steel scrap recycling, this paper studied the internal and external conflicts that blocked the smooth going of iron and steel scrap recycling process from the perspective of supply chain. To coordinate these conflicts, a push-pull iron and steel scrap supply chain was built to recover iron and steel scrap resources as more as possible in purpose of environmental protection by push strategy and match market demand by pull strategy. The results indicate that push-pull supply chain is an effective mode that well fit into economic demand as well as environmental demand in iron and steel scrap recycling process.

Bazin, Nor Erne Nazira. "An analysis of the performance of push, pull and hybrid production systems in manufacturing supply chains." Thesis, University of Salford, 2010. http://usir.salford.ac.uk/26571/.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis presents the analysis of dynamic behaviour arising from different production planning systems in manufacturing supply chains. Models of push, pull and hybrid production planning systems are developed using the system dynamics methodology, so allowing valid comparisons across the models. Although these production planning methods are well discussed in the literature in the light of their performance in different manufacturing systems, this research has a different approach. The models allow experimentation using a variety of hypothetical demand patterns as input, so as to reflect the current increasing uncertainty in customer demand. Results from the simulation runs are analysed on a comparative basis. Aspects such as the stock levels, back-order levels and cumulative costs are considered as performance metrics. In supply chains today, demand amplification (commonly called the bullwhip effect) remains one of the most difficult issues to resolve. The volatility of this wave can be observed from downstream customers placing orders, through retailers, distributors and finally the end member of the supply chain: manufacturers. This is the point where the research can offer some help. Findings from the analysis will provide insight as to how this wave transmits through manufacturers' operations under distinct production planning methods, together with the costs incurred by such instability. In addition, dynamic optimization of parameter values in the models (to minimise cumulative costs) is shown to be a useful methodological tool for managers in making decisions concerning stock and backlog policies.

Abstract:
In vehicle industry, it has been trends towards focusing on pull-basedsystems and elimination of waste (Lean), which decrease the tied-up capitallevel in the focal factory. Research by Holweg & Miemczyk (2002)showed that the relevant supply chain has low inventory level in the focalfactory, but at upstream and especially downstream; the tied-up capitallevel is dramatically higher in comparison to the focal factory.By conducting research and extensive literature reviews, this volatilityof tied-up capital level has been studied and analysed with regard topush and pull systems. As the three main causes of this unevenness; bullwhipeffect, CODP position in supply chain and intensity level of supplierrelationship have been identified and explained. As a practical solution for decreasing the tied-up capital level of finishedvehicles, implementation of centralised warehouse structure hasbeen suggested and discussed. Moreover, as an application of game theory in logistics, iterated prisoners’dilemma has been discussed as the base for a progressive relationshipwith suppliers (upgrading to win-win game) which is requisite for the successof pull-based supply chains.

Purpose – The purpose of this study is to investigate what kind of problems a public organization has with their information flow and suggest a solution to the identified problems. To achieve the purpose, will the report answer the following questions: What problems do a public organization have with the information flow? How can a specification contribute to efficiency the flow of information within a public organization? Method – In order to achieve the objectives of the study and answer the research questions, a qualitative study is conducted in a public organization. First, semi-structured interviews have been conducted, and then a literature search is performed to provide a knowledge base in this field. From this emerges a specification that forms the basis for a more efficient flow of information within a public organization. The empirical data, which is collected in the manner described, is then analysed and compared with the collected theory. This is to compare the real working life with the theory. Even literature studies have been carried out because it is important to have a stable background current methods, theories and tools. With its basis in the specification, the proposed solutions was developed after an election has made the kind of solution that is fit for purpose. This was done in consultation with the organization concerned. The requirement specification has been analysed by the empirical data and theories, and occurred in consulting with the organization concerned. A demonstration of the final solution and follow-up interviews were also conducted, to get feedback about the solution improvement of the information flow within the public organization. Findings – The study results are based on the collected empirical data and the conducted literature review. The result shows that development of an artefact in the form of guidelines for a set of requirements that form the basis, for further development solution improvement of the information flow has resulted in an improvement of the information flow within a public organization. The requirements that have been identified; with semi-structured interview have been used to create the specification demands. This is done to get a good result that solves the organizations requirements and needs, in terms of information flow in a public organization. Implications – Blomkvist and Hallin (2015) argues that some thesis provides a methodological contribution to research this, a new way to solve an organization's practical problems. This is this study knowledge contribution. Knowledge contribution in terms of research in informatics, it contributes to an improvement in the distribution of information. This is through the development and use guidelines for a set of requirements that underpin it. The study provides support by producing a guidance on a specification in the form of an artefact that is the basis for development. Further studies may be seen as desirable as this study has only focused on the organization and for research to be optimal and needs further studies in the field carried out. Limitations – The study was conducted in a public organization and therefore the results of the study are specifically relevant for this kind of organizations.

Abstract:
This chapter focuses specifically on drinking water supply, which is divided into national, state, rural, and urban areas given the multiplicity of relevant instruments. The first section focuses on rural drinking supply. It reproduces the main national-level policy instrument in this area, the National Rural Drinking Water Programme Guidelines, 2013, select state-level legislation (panchayat acts) and instruments highlighting the push for reforms and privatisation in the sector. The second section focuses on urban drinking water supply. It reproduces extracts of a national statute and select state-level legal instruments. It also reproduces legal instruments seeking to foster reforms in urban water provisioning. The third section looks at drinking water supply in specific contexts and highlights select legal instruments concerning schools, post-disaster management, and work places. The last section highlights the issue of drinking water quality and quantity standards, a crucial dimension that has not been given yet the place it deserves in legislation.

Abstract:
In a globalized world, the competition to attract high-skilled people from all over the world has become intense. In this context, medical doctors are one of the most targeted occupations because the need for healthcare is continuously growing. This chapter assesses the determinants of international immigration of medical doctors by focusing on the major OECD receiving countries yearly from 1991 to 2004. We use a traditional push–pull model to analyse the attractiveness of the healthcare market of receiving countries by disentangling the demand and the supply side. Our results conclude that the inflows of foreign-trained doctors is higher in OECD countries with low density of doctors (supply) and with high social expenditures in health (demand). These results suggest that the mobility of medical doctors responds to the strategy of OECD countries to fill the gap between their supply of health services and their population’s healthcare needs.

Abstract:
There are three factors that persuade a migrant to cross borders: demand-pull in destination areas, supply-push in origin areas, and network factors that connect them. On the basis of this demand-pull, supply-push, and network framework, a distinction can be made between economic migrants who are encouraged to migrate because of a demand for their labor abroad and noneconomic migrants who cross national borders to seek refuge or to join family members living abroad. Many economists argue that trade and migration have similar effects on sending and receiving countries. However, there is no solid evidence showing that more migration accelerates economic development in migrant-sending countries. The effects of international migration on development are often grouped in the 3-R channels of recruitment, remittances, and returns, each of which can operate in ways that speed up or slow down economic development. Recruitment refers to who goes abroad, remittances are the amount of the money earned by migrants abroad that is sent home, and returns focus on what migrants do after a period of employment abroad. Majority of industrial countries have national laws that require all workers to receive minimum wages and migrants to receive the same wages and benefits as local workers. From the point of view of some developing countries, minimum and equal wages are a form of protectionism aimed at limiting the number of migrant service providers. A major challenge of the twenty-first century is how to resolve this trade-off between migrant numbers and migrant rights.

Abstract:
Activists have exposed startling forms of labor exploitation and environmental degradation in global industries, leading many large retailers and brands to adopt standards for fairness and sustainability. This book is about the idea that transnational corporations can push these rules through their global supply chains, and in effect, pull factories, forests, and farms out of their local contexts and up to global best practices. For many scholars and practitioners, this kind of private regulation and global standard-setting can provide an alternative to regulation by territorially bound, gridlocked, or incapacitated nation states, potentially improving environments and working conditions around the world and protecting the rights of exploited workers, impoverished farmers, and marginalized communities. But can private, voluntary rules actually create meaningful forms of regulation? Are forests and factories around the world being made into sustainable ecosystems and decent workplaces? Can global norms remake local orders? This book provides striking new answers by comparing the private regulation of land and labor in democratic and authoritarian settings. Case studies of sustainable forestry and fair labor standards in Indonesia and China show not only how transnational standards are implemented “on the ground” but also how they are constrained and reconfigured by domestic governance. Combining rich multi-method analyses, a powerful comparative approach, and a new theory of private regulation, this book reveals the contours and contradictions of transnational governance.

Abstract:
The Federal Reserve, created more than a century ago, is the most powerful central bank in the world. The Fed’s power to alter the money supply, move interest rates, and to intervene to save Wall Street and large corporations helps many Americans, but not equally. Specific industries in finance and large businesses reap lopsided and often concealed benefits while homeowners, workers, and Americans of color slip further behind. The substantial expansion of the Fed’s power circumvents America’s constitutional checks and contributes to economic inequality and racial disparities. The second edition of Lawrence R. Jacobs and Desmond King’s Fed Power extends their decisive account of the Fed’s favoritism toward Wall Street and big business during the 2008–2009 financial crisis to the Fed’s unprecedented responses to the economic collapse sparked by the coronavirus pandemic in 2020. In five chapters, Jacobs and King discuss the origins of the Federal Reserve System, its maneuvering to advance its capacity and autonomy to act independent of Congress and the presidency, and unprecedented support for Wall Street and big business during in the crises in 2008–2009 and 2020. Fed Power analyses how the scale of the Fed’s economic interventions since 2008 is provoking public unease, organized protests and advocacy, and congressional pressure for reform. The deadly coronavirus and the Movement for Black Lives are intensifying the push for democratic accountability, stringent regulation of banks, and new policies to reduce economic inequality and Black-White disparities. Fed Power is a corrective to both the Bank’s self-serving claims of serving the public even as it favors the best-off, and the reluctance of researchers to recognize the Fed’s role in America’s racial and economic inequalities.

Abstract:
This chapter discusses the relevance, dimensions, and types of supply chain strategies. It puts forward the key aspect, that is, the supply chain strategy needs to be in line with the firms' business strategy or else the relevance is lost. This chapter relates the supply chain strategy with business strategy as whether a supply chain needs to be cost-efficient or responsive or how to optimize both cost and response time in view of its business strategy, whether to make or buy a product, how to relate supply chain with product and supplier life cycle, and whether the firm needs to pursue push or pull or a dual strategy.

Abstract:
This chapter provides an understanding of basic essence of supply chain management. It introduces a multi-dimensional facet of supply chain management. A typical supply chain has at least three entities, that is, the supplier, the firm, and its customer. The inter-link between these three entities comprises three primary components of a supply chain, namely, the inbound or upstream supply chain, internal supply chain, and outbound or downstream supply chain. However, in a real-life scenario, many firms (especially in case of large and complex firms), the suppliers, and production centres are more than one. This increases the complexity of the supply chain structure. This concept has been introduced in this chapter. The drivers of supply chain have been categorized under strategic and operational drivers. This aspect has been explained, with examples. The chapter discusses the enablers and inhibitors of a supply chain of a firm. It proceeds to explain the issues in assessing and integrating the drivers, enablers, and inhibitors in the supply chain planning process. Bull whip and snow ball effects are two important outcomes of an inefficient supply chain. These concepts have been introduced here. Finally, the chapter concludes by laying down the objectives and the strategies of supply chain management. It prioritizes the focus of supply chain management, stating that customers come first followed by cost optimization. The chapter discusses on the ways to make supply chain agile and flexible. Supply chains are always prone to disruptions; hence, this chapter talks about a resilient supply chain. Next to customer, cost is an important element that enables a firm to keep its price competitive and be profitable. Here the concept of a lean supply chain has been discussed, a way to minimize waste and hence reduce cost. Supply chain management varies with firms' business strategy. The firm may choose to follow either a cost-leadership strategy or a differentiation or a focus strategy and thus would accordingly adopt push or pull or push-pull (supply chain) strategy. In case of cost-leadership strategy, the firm is expected to follow “make-to-stock” (operations) strategy; in case of differentiation strategy it would adopt “make-to-order” strategy; and for focus strategy the firm embraces “engineer-to-order” strategy. This chapter discusses these aspects to correlate the different dimensions of business and its supply chain management. Firms now are focussing on global operation to leverage on opening up of economy, enabling them to lower the cost of operations and achieve the desired quality. Besides, globalisation has also led to widening of market coverage. A brief introduction to global logistics management has been made in this chapter to emphasise on operationalization of a firms' global supply chain.

Abstract:
This chapter analyses the effects of increased transparency in supply netchains. The term netchain refers to both chain and network aspects. Three levels of transparency are distinguished: history transparency (e.g., tracking and tracing), operations transparency (e.g., collaborative logistics planning), and strategy transparency (e.g., joint innovation). Using an example in the Dutch egg sector, the chapter shows how the role of the individual company changes in a netchain and discusses the implications. Though technology push makes transparency feasible and economically attractive, social-psychological barriers exist that should be taken seriously. A brief review of cases from several continents shows that these barriers vary across cultures, depending on prevailing attitudes towards relationships and authority. Transparency may run counter to tradition, to trust, and to entrepreneurial freedom in the netchain, but it also offers opportunities for creating netchains that are profitable to all participants. To grasp these requires vision on behalf of those involved.

Abstract:
For more than a year, the Caribbean economics team at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has focused on the potential implications of the COVID-19 pandemic for lives and livelihoods across the region. The pandemic is still with us, but there is hope that the cycles of lockdowns and containment measures will eventually come to an end as vaccination programs progress, even if unevenly, across the region. However, the availability of vaccine supply remains a concern, and the pandemic continues to pose a constraint for the recovery of key sectors such as tourism and local services sectors. This edition of the Caribbean Quarterly Bulletin focuses on two topics: (1) forecasts of key macroeconomic variables, based on the April 2021 WEO, and (2) financial sector risks. In general, regional economies are embarking on a fragile path to recovery. Continued progress with vaccination programs, credible medium-term fiscal programs, and continued attention to financial vulnerabilities will be needed to push that path to recovery forward.
