Abstract:
In this thesis an overarching analysis is made of four articles published in refereed international journals. The articles are describing the development and implementation of learning support systems/learning support applications. The text which summarizes and retrospectively analyzes the projects described in the articles has been condensed into yet another article, which has been placed at the end of the thesis. This makes a total of five articles. In the analysis that is made of learning support applications the following questions are in focus: What results have the projects achieved and how have the experiences gained been utilized? What factors in the described projects have facilitated or hindered the idea, vision, design and implementation of the learning support systems? How have university intentions of supporting entrepreneurship and the commercialization of ideas and products benefited the projects? The results show that there are a great many similarities in the ideas and visions that have initiated and affected the learning support work. Improved communication and availability are expected from all the applications, as well as coordination, creating order and an overarching view. In spite of a large number of positive users, it has been difficult for the applications described to become integrated into the organizations. One possible reason for this is the bad anchoring of the projects in the management organization. Further, there was a lack of funding in the final phases of the projects, which considerably reduced the chances of establishing and continuing operating them. In the gap arising between the end of the implementation phase and the possible application for and granting of new funding, the project dies out of itself. One way of reversing this trend is to grant means for continued work and to get the organization and administration to upgrade the value of a learning application that has become established in the organization.

Abstract:
Undocumented students in the United States continue to face unique barriers to postsecondary success. One way that community colleges and 4-year institutions are providing support for undocumented students is establishing undocumented student resource centers (USRCs). These emerging identity-based centers are dedicated spaces of support and provide customized, comprehensive resources for undocumented college students. A multipronged theoretical framework that included undocu-competence, the institutionalization process, and critical theory, was used as a lens to examine how USRC professionals and affiliates understand the development, role, and function of a USRC on a California community college campus. Qualitative single case study methods, including in-depth semistructured interviews, observations, and document analysis, were utilized to meet the purpose of the study. The findings revealed three primary themes. First, the institutionalization process of the USRC at the center of this study was complex, imperfect, and ongoing. Second, there are strengths and limitations respective to the USRC's capacity to operationalize support and safety. Finally, the compounded impact of the current socio-political moment cannot be evaded with respect to the USRC's function. Subsequently, three primary points of discussion are explored, including critiquing the process of USRC institutionalization, complicating the notion of safe spaces on campuses, and calling for inside-outside strategies of support in order to best serve undocumented students.

Abstract:
Syftet med studien är att studera hur lärare introducerar och arbetar med likhetstecknet för att inkludera alla elever och ge dem förutsättningar i sin undervisning. Studiens urval är fyra verksamma lärare som genom semistrukturerade kvalitativa intervjuer belyser sina tankar, erfarenheter och åsikter om hur de arbetar och introducerar likhetstecknet, samt vilka svårigheter som kan uppstå. Resultatet visar att lärarna i studien har ett entydigt arbetssätt men att det finns faktorer som skiljer sig åt. Att det finns faktorer som skiljer sig åt tydliggörs genom att lärarna introducerar likhetstecknet med bland annat konkret material medan introduktionen av likhetstecknet kan se olika ut, lärarna använder olika arbetsmetoder där en lärare väljer att introducera addition och talkamrater innan likhetstecknet, medan en annan lärare uttrycker att likhetstecknet bör introduceras först. Studiens problem är att forskning och myndigheter visar på att elever missuppfattar likhetstecknets betydelse. Den slutsats vi kan dra utifrån syfte, problem och resultat är att lärare behöver anpassa undervisningen för att ge eleverna goda kunskaper för att kunna bemästra matematiken.
The purpose of the study is to observe how teachers introduce and work with an equal sign in order to include all students. This is to give them the prerequisites in their teaching. The study sample involves four active teachers who, through semi-structured qualitative interviews, shed light on their thoughts, experiences, and opinions on how teachers work and introduce the sign of equality as well as what difficulties may arise. The results show that the teachers involved in the study have an unambiguous way of working, however, there are factors that differ. This is shown by the teachers introducing the equals sign with, among other things, concrete material while the introduction of the equals sign can look different. The teachers use different working methods where one teacher chooses to introduce additions and speech mates before the equal sign, while another teacher expresses that the equal sign should be introduced first. The problem with the study is that the research and authorities show that students misunderstand the meaning of the equal sign. The conclusion we can draw based on purpose, problems, and results is that teachers need to adapt the teaching to give students sufficient knowledge to be able to master mathematics.

Many companies today have to deal with business processes optimization, ongoing removal of system obstacles and identifying any bottlenecks laying on the way which are preventing us to reach our goals. I would like to show how we have dealt with similar problems in our case applied in the department of web application maintenance. In the first chapter I will introduce the basic information about the history, environment the company operate in and maintenance activities which are part of the process. Following with description all of the system obstacles and bottlenecks identified in the process and possible solutions or improvements for their elimination. In the last chapter I will present the achieved results after my executing of the proposed improvements and if the expectations have been met or not and what positive or negative influence it has brought.

Abstract:
"The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) plans to send a human exploration team to Mars within the next 25 years. In support of this effort Hamilton Standard Space Systems International (HSSSI), current manufacturers of the Space Shuttle spacesuit, began exploring alternative solutions for supporting an astronaut during a Martian surface exploration. A design concept was developed by HSSSI to integrate a minimally equipped Martian spacesuit with a robotic support cart capable of providing life support assistance, communications, and independent navigational functions. To promote NASA's visionary efforts and increase university relations, HSSSI partnered with Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) to develop a proof-of-concept robotic support cart system, FIDOE - Fully Independent Delivery of Expendables. As a proof-of-concept system, the primary goal of this project was to demonstrate the feasibility of current technologies utilized by FIDOE's communication and controls system for future Martian surface explorations. The primary objective of this project was to procure selected commercial-off-the-shelf components and configure these components into a functional robotic support cart. The design constraints for this project, in addition to the constraints imposed by the Martian environment and HSSSI's Martian spacesuit, were a one-year time frame and a $20,000 budget for component procurement. This project was also constrained by the protocols defined by the NASA demonstration test environment. The final design configuration comprised of 37 major commercial off-the-shelf components and three individual software packages that integrated together to provide FIDOE's communications and control capabilities. Power distribution was internally handled through a combination of a main power source and dedicated power supplies. FIDOE also provided a stowage area for handling assisted life support systems and geological equipment. The proof-of-concept FIDOE system proved that the current technologies represented by the selected components are feasible applications for a Mars effort. Specifically, the FIDOE system demonstrated that the chosen technologies can be integrated to perform assisted life support and independent functions. While some technologies represented by the proof-of-concept system may not adequately address the robustness issues pertaining to the Mars effort, e.g., voice recognition and power management, technology trends indicate that these forms of technology will soon become viable solutions to assisting an astronaut on a Martian surface exploration."

A qualitative study of the experiences and observations of 4 art therapists and 2 program directors who facilitated Camp Suzanne, a week-long art-based therapeutic program for incarcerated mothers and their children in a federal prison in California. Research on psychotherapy, art therapy, and family therapy in prison environments, with a focus on parent-child dyads, Attachment Theory, and various techniques for creating sustainable therapy with separated family units, including tele-mental health and evidence-based military protocols, informed the interviews. The research participants were interviewed individually and created art regarding the subjects of Attachment Theory with incarcerated-mother-child dyads and longevity considerations for the program. Emergent themes in the data included the impact of art-making on attachment and a variety of observable attachment styles, as well as obstacles to both attachment and longevity of Camp Suzanne. Some of the obstacles addressed include systemic challenges, continuity of care, location concerns, external support (for facilitators and for incarcerated-mother-child dyads), as well as preparatory support (psychoeducation). Various implications of these obstacles are discussed.

21st century tourism is one of the key commercial industries in the world, which is why many countries have targeted tourism projects. New opportunities have been opened, with the "Offshore Islands Development Act". Its gaming terms provide that, if coupled with government oversight, the proposed sightseeing casino review shows feasibility to establish the SAR's gaming future in Taiwan. The Hengchun Township of Pingtung County, has been quite a famous tourist area, with many local hotel resorts it proves suitable for transformation into a casino, attraction This study explores Hengchun residents support of tourist casinos and the obstacles which surround this issue. The study used stratified random sampling method, in the town of Hengchun, South Wanli, Kenting and Eluanbi, totallling four regions, conducting 382 questionnaires, receiving 306 valid questionnaires, with an effective rate of 80%. The statistical analysis ( SPSS 12 statistical software )major findings are: (A) On average, Hengchun Township residents hardly support the construction of tourist casinos, different genders of Hengchun residents show significant differences in the range of social aspects, such as individual circumstances Hengchun Township residents of different marital status and economic status, the social status, individual circumstances etc. are of significant individual differences, Hengchun Township residents don't live in a single area, but are affected by aspects of both individual circumstances and social status reaching significant individual survey outcomes. Hengchun Township residents of different occupations also reached significant differences; As well as residents in different educational institutions. The significant differences were different aspects of (1)the average monthly income (2)social and (3)personal differences. (B)Hengchun Township residents which hinder high tourist casinos factors, have different genders, and individual circumstances. Interpersonal relationships are of significant diversity with differences in marital status, residents living on the ground surface and different occupations Hengchun Township residents face factors which constitute a significant range. There are different qualifications in Hengchun Township and individual circumstances , owing to interpersonal differences of average monthly income of Hengchun Township residents and interpersonal dimensions of social diversity. (C) Hengchun residents support of the construction and obstacles of casinos results showed a highly negative figure, which means that residents of Hengchun, don't support the construction of casinos. Due to many reasons, which if the majority supposed it would be swiftly removed. These results suggested that the relevant government authorities and the consortium many have a chance to build a casino in the tourist town of Hengchun. Although there should be more communication with local residents, and focus on building a healthy entertainment image.

Esta pesquisa disserta o tema sobre as políticas de apoio às PME em Angola. O tópico é abordado sob a ótica de como o Governo Angolano apoia as PME no contexto atual. Esta pesquisa foi realizada na província de Luanda. A investigação tem como Objetivo analisar conhecer as possibilidades de financiamento das PME; identificar os principais obstáculos que limitam o desenvolvimento das PME; perceber que tipo de apoio o Governo tem dado às PME em Angola. Neste estudo optou-se pela metodologia descritiva (qualitativa), das políticas de apoio as PME e de algumas variáveis chaves no que diz respeito a análise teórica conceptual, unindo a um estudo empírico através de entrevistas realizadas. O resultado da análise de todos os dados revelou que os pequenos e médios empresários e os vendedores carecem de apoios, principalmente financeiros, institucionais, isto é, redução dos processos burocráticos, espaço físico para o desenvolvimento do negócio, por um lado. Por outro, as principais dificuldades encontradas aos empresários de PME e aos vendedores informais tem a ver com a falta de recursos qualificados, demasiada burocracia nas instituições governamentais e com falta de conhecimento das práticas moderna de gestão por parte dos empresários das PME e aos vendedores informais. Concluiu-se que muitos destes problemas têm a ver com o facto de existir atividades pouco produtivas motivadas pela sua própria sobrevivência de vida do praticante. Neste caso, propôs-se que a solução deve consistir no aumento do desenvolvimento da indústria microfinanceira nacional e obrigar os bancos a redefinirem novas estratégias
This research dissertation on the theme policies to support PMEs in Angola. The topic is approached from the perspective of how the Angolan Government supports SMEs in the current context. It should be noted that this research took place in the Province of Luanda (Angola). Our research aims, analyze and explore the various possibilities of financing to the SMEs, which identify the main obstacles that limit the development of these companies; even realize what kind of support the Government has given to them in Angola. In this study, we opted for descriptive methodology (qualitative) policies to support SMEs and some key variables with regard to the conceptual theoretical analysis, uniting through an empirical study interviews. The result of the analysis of all issues revealed that small and medium sellers and need support, especially financial, institutional character, that is, reducing bureaucratic processes, purchase of a physical space for the realization of commercial activity on the one hand and on the other, the main difficulties for entrepreneurs from SMEs and informal traders has to do with the lack of skilled human resources, too much bureaucracy in public institutions and the lack of knowledge of modern business management practices by of the practitioners of this service. In short, many of these problems have to do with the fact that there are little productive activities, motivated by livelihood of the entrepreneur. In this case, it proposes that the solution should be to increase the development of national microfinance industry and requires the banking entity to redefine policies access to different kinds of credit or microcredits.

O mercado imobiliário tem sido alvo de variadíssimas alterações que, fomentadas pela atual conjuntura económica, resultam em oscilações de tendências e na quebra da compra de imóveis em detrimento do arrendamento. A este facto associa-se a crescente quebra no poder de compra da população, inerente à escassez de liquidez e ao peso que o crédito concedido para a aquisição dos imóveis tem vindo a representar. No entanto, apesar desta conjuntura, os investidores imobiliários desempenham um papel fundamental no crescimento do mercado imobiliário de arrendamento habitacional. Nesta perspetiva, o principal objetivo da presente investigação passa pela criação de um modelo conceptual, através de técnicas de mapeamento cognitivo difuso (i.e. fuzzy cognitive mapping), que visa a identificação e compreensão de relações de causalidade entre os fatores que representam entraves ao investimento imobiliário para fins de arrendamento habitacional. Os resultados alcançados revelam que os mapas cognitivos detêm grande utilidade na estruturação de problemas complexos, minimizando o número de critérios descorados no processo de tomada de decisão. Em particular, foi possível apurar que os comportamentos de risco, a localização e os custos associados (para o proprietário) apresentam-se como os fatores/entraves de maior representatividade na análise do investimento imobiliário para fins de arrendamento habitacional. As implicações práticas do modelo concebido, bem como as respetivas vantagens e limitações, são também objeto de análise e discussão.
The real estate market has suffered changes caused by the current economic climate. These changes have resulted in price volatility and a shift from buying to renting. In addition, there has been a reduction in the purchasing power of the population, due to low liquidity and the weight of credit used to buy houses. However, real estate investors still have a crucial role in the growth of the rental market. With this in mind, the main focus of this study is to create a conceptual model, through fuzzy cognitive mapping, with the goal of identifying and understanding the cause-and-effect relationships between the factors that represent obstacles to this type of investment. The results show that cognitive maps have great utility in the structuring of complex problems, minimizing the number of factors left out of the decision making process. In particular, we were able to point out that risk behavior, location and costs (for the owner) represent the main obstacles to real estate investment for rental proposes. The practical implications of the processes followed, as well as their advantages and limitations, are also discussed and analyzed.

While the modern female workers have already prepared to develop their career, they face with the problem of glass ceiling which hinders them from promoting to the top. Therefore, this study aims to find out the obstacles female workers face with when they are trying to get promotion, and the supports they acquired to help them to conquer the obstacles. This study adopts case study, interviews with eight female leaders, and analyzes their career experiences. Result shows that factors from four levels affect promotions of these female leaders, and the four levels are individual level, interpersonal level, organizational level, and cultural level. The supports from individual level are human capital, job involvement, and family support while the obstacle from this level is domestic responsibility; the supports from interpersonal level are mentor and sponsor relationships however the obstacles from this level are stereotype and the break of colleague relationships; the supports from organizational level are femininity industry and high opportunity structure; the factor from cultural level is masculinity.

Abstract:
Little is known about the unique experiences of Indigenous people in their work life journeys. In particular, there has been very little research with young males on this topic. In this qualitative study, eight young Indigenous men shared their stories regarding their search for and engagement in work, and completed an exploration of their Possible Selves. The research question was "what are the supports, challenges, and obstacles experienced as you search for and maintain work?" Thematic analysis identified four meta-themes related to their work life experiences: relational supports; work experiences; education; and culture and work. The results have important implications for theory, research and practice in regards to work and career development with young Indigenous men.
