The amount of runoff generated relative to different surface types given an amount of rainfall is very important in hydrogeomorphological studies. This study is aimed at examining sediment yield responses to rainfall on different surfaces in Obudu, Cross River State, Nigeria. Data were collected on rainfall amount, intensity, duration and sediment loss from three run off plots on natural vegetation surface, mulched and bare surfaces. The data collected were analyzed using Pearson’s moment correlation and multiple regression statistical techniques. The results revealed that rainfall amount corr

Using the concept of the ‘braid type’ of a periodic orbit, its relation to Artin’s braid group, and the Nielsen-Thurston classification of surface homeomorphisms, we examine problems pertaining to the coexistence of periodic orbits, in particular for homeomorphisms of the disc, annulus and 2-torus. They are normally found in groups associated with gas clouds in locations called star forming regions. Much work has been done to explain the bizarre spectral features of T Tauri stars, and this has led to the development of a standard model for their structures. Classical T Tauri stars are thought to be surrounded by large discs of accreting material, which slowly adds to the mass of the star. Th

Abstract:
Abstract Scaling, which is the formation of insoluble inorganic solids, is a major problem in water treatment plants and in the oil industry. Millions of dollars are spent each year to prevent the occurrence of scale. Calcium carbonate (CaCO3) and barium sulfate (BaSO4) are common types of scale encountered in these sectors. Scale predictions are typically based on thermodynamics and tend not to give a time-based quantification of surface scale growth. Recent work clearly demonstrated that scale deposition and precipitation are two different processes and that their rates should be evaluated s

Full text
Abstract:
This research considers the detection, location, and classification of patches in concrete and asphalt-on-concrete pavements using data taken from ground penetrating radar (GPR) and the WayLink 3D Imaging System. In particular, the project seeks to develop a patching table for “inverted-T” patches. A number of deep neural net methods were investigated for patch detection from 3D elevation and image observation, but the success was inconclusive, partly because of a dearth of training data. Later, a method based on thresholding IRI values computed on a 12-foot window was used to localize pavemen

Abstract:
There is a need for renewable antimicrobial surface treatments that are semi- permanent, can eradicate both biofilms and planktonic pathogens over long periods of time and that do not select for resistant strains. This proposal describes a dopamine binding technology that is inexpensive, bio-friendly, non-toxic, and uses straight-forward commercially available products. The antimicrobial agents are peptidoglycanhydrolase enzymes that are non-toxic and highly refractory to resistance development. The goal of this project is to create a treatment that will be applicable to a wide variety of surf

Abstract:
These guidelines describe a method for in-situ determination of the sound power level of the noise sources in indoor or outdoor environments for gas compressor station equipment using sound intensity measurements. The guidelines contain information on instrumentation, installation and operation of the source, procedures for the selection of a measurement surface, procedures for the sampling of sound intensity on the measurement surface, procedures for the calculation of sound power level, and techniques that can be used to qualify the measurement environment. Full text
Abstract:
SAGE-PEDD is a computational model for estimating snowdrift shapes around buildings. The main inputs to the model are wind speed, wind direction, building geometry and initial ground or snow-surface topography. Though developed mainly for predicting snowdrift shapes, it has the flexibility to accept other soil types, though this manual addresses snow only. This manual provides detailed information for set up, running, and viewing the output of a SAGE-PEDD simulation.

Full text
Abstract:
The development of uncrewed maritime systems (UMSs) – which include vehicles that can be piloted either remotely or semi-autonomously – has increased. This primer introduces the different types of UMS, otherwise known as surface, underwater or maritime drones. It also describes their key components and functions, as well as outlining the main challenges that these systems can pose to international security. The focus of the primer is on describing the main areas of technological innovation and development related to the key components that comprise UMSs, outlining the anticipated areas of prog
