Several different classes of trans-Neptunian objects (TNOs) have been identified based on their optical and near-infrared colors. As part of the Colours of the Outer Solar System Origins Survey (Col-OSSOS), we have obtained g-, r-, and z-band photometry of 26 TNOs using Subaru and Gemini Observatories. Previous color surveys have not utilized z-band reflectance, and the inclusion of this band reveals significant surface reflectance variations between sub-populations. In this Thesis, we discuss the following general problem in dynamical systems: given a surface homeomorphism, and some information about its periodic orbits, what else can we deduce about its periodic orbit structure? Using the concept of the ‘braid type’ of a periodic orbit, its relation to Artin’s braid group, and the Nielsen-Thurston classification of surface homeomorphisms, we examine problems pertaining to the coexistence of periodic orbits, in particular for homeomorphisms of the disc, annulus and 2-torus. This thesis describes the results of two spectral studies of T Tauri stars. T Tauri stars are young, low mass, stars which have yet to evolve to the point where Hydrogen fusion occurs in their cores. They are normally found in groups associated with gas clouds in locations called star forming regions.
