In the context of 2D persistent homology a new metric has been recently introduced, the coherent matching distance. In order to study this metric, the filtering function is required to present particular “regularity” properties, based on a geometrical construction of the real plane, called extended Pareto grid. This dissertation shows a new result for modifying the extended Pareto grid associated to a filtering function defined on a smooth closed surface, with values in the real plane. In future, the technical result presented here could be used to prove the genericity of the regularity condit

This research presents the initial studies and results on shield design for Shape-Shifting Surfaces (SSSs) seeking maximum compression and maximum expansion of a unit-cell. Shape-Shifting Surfaces (SSSs) are multilayered surfaces that are able to change shape while maintaining their integrity as physical barriers. SSSs are composed of polygonal unit-cells, which can change side lengths and corner angles. These changes are made possible by each side and corner consisting of at least two different shields, or layers of material. As the layers undergo relative motion, the unit-cell changes shape.

Abstract:
碩士<br>國立臺灣大學<br>機械工程學研究所<br>99<br>In this paper we consider the deformation and stability of a clamped-clamped elastica resting on a bottom plane and pressed by a top wall laterally. Three types of top walls are considered; they are concave, convex, and plane surfaces. Deformation maps of the pressed elastica are first constructed. The stability of various deformation patterns is determined via a vibration method. The theoretical predictions on the deformation evolution when the top wall presses quasi-statically are verified experimentally. In the case of plane top wall, the external pressing
