Abstract:
As one of the initiatives associated with the creation of the Susquehanna River Greenway Corridor in Pennsylvania, new connections will be established between the river, the greenway, and river communities. These connections will be made in an attempt to strengthen and revitalize the river corridor. The connections will be facilitated through a variety of projects ranging from parks or scenic overlooks to large-scale commercial or industrial developments. It was the intention for this creative project to explore ways in which communities along the river could connect to the river and the gree

Abstract:
<p> Deposits of coal silt are significant because they provide archaeologists a baseline for investigating changes in pre-industrial and post-industrial landscapes in Pennsylvania. Beginning in the 1790s, miners extracted coal from seams near the surface with a pick and shovel. Over the next 120 years, coal mining evolved into a booming industry. In 1917, production peaked at over 100 million tons. By 1950, geologists discovered reserves of crude oil and natural gas, leading to the overall decline of the anthracite coal industry. Today, coal is no longer a dominant part of the local econo

Abstract:
An exercise in applied Christian ecotheology, this thesis focuses on a community of Lutheran church bodies (ELCA) in North Central Pennsylvania as they grappled with natural gas hydraulic fracturing in the summer of 2012. In the paper, I employ a combination of theological, environmental, historical, and ethnographic research methodologies to ground my analysis of how this synod of Lutherans to date has approached the fracking boom. My primary research question is: How might the Upper Susquehanna Synod of the ELCA--as a representative body of 131 Lutheran churches that are steeped in tradition

This study will examine procurement and consumption of steatite bowls within the above watersheds of Pennsylvania between 3000 BC to 750 BC. Looking at the distribution of steatite sites in comparison to the distance from the quarry locations has enabled us to examine the trade and exchange model being utilized to acquire this material. Abstract:
In the Marcellus shale region, elevated concentrations of dissolved methane in private water wells has been shown to be linked to natural gas extraction, but little is known of the connections between methane, gas production, and water chemistry. This study evaluates the relationships of methane to the major chemical constituents of groundwater by comparing analytical data obtained from a stray gas investigation by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP). Furthermore, spatiotemporal relationships of dissolved methane to gas well production and total iron (Fe) concentr
