Abstract:
Cationic proteins from the seeds of the Moringa oleifera tree are of interest as sustainable coagulants for drinking water treatment in regions with poor access to potable water in tropical and subtropical regions of the world. They have been shown to reduce turbidity in natural water sources as well as in various model freshwaters. To identify the active components in the seed extract, high performance liquid chromatography was employed. Eight M. oleifera cationic protein fractions were isolated and characterized using gel electrophoresis, dynamic light scattering, and circular dichroism. Coa

The proposal of this work is to evaluate a feasible alternative to minimize the environmental problem caused by the disposal of liquid waste from cheese production in the municipality of Nossa Senhora de Lourdes, in the state of Sergipe, Brazil. Moreover, it also proposes the recovering of whey proteins which have a high economic value for several industrial sectors. At present, the whey has been disposed of without any treatment, damaging the environment and resulting in the loss of whey proteins, although they constitute a profitable economic alternative as well as a rich feed resource. Lignin has the potential to be used as green material to inhibit the corrosion of metallic substrates. Mussel adhesive protein is used to modify lignin due to its great adhesive and film forming abilities. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) has been applied to in-situ measure the corrosion resistance of the formed surface composite films in the corrosive environment. The equivalent circuit is used to fit the EIS data to obtain the quantitative results of the surface films. Textiles are very hazardous materials when related to fires, because of the high surface to mass ratio and the open structure, which simplify the contact with heat and oxygen. Fabrics have a great impact on the development of fatal fires because of their easy ignition and high burning rate. For the flame retardancy of fabrics several strategies have been developed throughout the years, and nowadays additives and reagents are widely used for the different kinds of textiles. The most common commercial durable finishes for cotton fabrics contain phosphorous and nitrogen compounds. These products

UHT milk is gaining market share worldwide for being a healthy, safe and convenient food product with a long shelf life at room temperature. However, the UHT treatment (usually 140- 150 °C for 2-10 s) contributing to its long shelf life may induce some changes, which may make it unstable during storage. Considerable levels of sedimentation (up to 1 % dry weight basis) of proteinaceous material at the bottom of the storage container, or formation of a gel (age-gelation), or both, can mark the end of shelf life of UHT milk, and hence affect its market potential and incur financial losses t
