Abstract:
Bacterial diseases caused deaths in 84.68 percent of dead pigs recorded in piggeries of Jos Area of Plateau State of the bacterial diseases the most prevalent were colibacillosis, erysipelas, oedema disease, pneumonias and salmonellosis. But deaths in 9.68 percent were due to non-infectious causes. Ascariasis and cysticercosis were the main parasitic diseases. Early treatment of sick swine and improved husbandry and management would have certainly reduced the losses which the pig producers had sustained in consequence of these conditions

ABSTRACT Enteric diseases of bacterial origin are frequent in the pig industry, of particular notoriety are the colibacillosis that mainly affect piglets and cause great damage to the swine industry worldwide. The aim of the study was to analyze phylogenetics, to detect biofilm production, and to determine antimicrobial resistance profile in 126 strains of Escherichia coli isolated from swabs obtained from fragments of the small intestines of 235 healthy pigs killed in slaughterhouses in Pernambuco (Brazil) using polymerase chain reaction (PCR), adherence to microplates test and disc diffusion

The aim of this study was to determine the priming effect of experimentally inoculated non-ETEC strains (2407, 1466) on gastrointestinal mucosal lymphocytes. Five 4-week-old pigs per group were orally inoculated with either F4ac+(1466 or 2407) or F4– (1467) non-ETEC strains. The control pigs were given broth containing 1.2% sodium bicarbonate. At postinoculation Day 6 the pigs were killed, their gut lymphocytes were isolated, and their responsiveness was tested in vitro with F4 antigen, peptidoglycan monomer (PGM), pokeweed mitogen (PWM), phytohemagglutinin (PH

Abstract:
Background: One of the most frequent health problems in the swine industry is the post-weaning diarrhea in nursery pigs, which leads to significant losses due to weight loss, dehydration, cost of medication and mortality. Escherichia coli (E. coli) is one of the main bacterial agents of the post-weaning diarrhea. To investigate the possibility of enterotoxigenic E. coli (ETEC) transmission through drinking water to nursery piglets, the objective of this study was to isolate, characterize by virulence factors, and compare the antimicrobial resistance profiles of E. coli from drinking water samp

Abstract:
One of the top priorities at the present stage of development of pig breeding remains the development of a set of measures aimed at increasing the resistance animals to various diseases, especially – to colibacteriosis .One of the recent and effective approaches to prevent colibacillosis is using markers of selection; it involves pig genotyping by genome locuses. Chosen locuses are associated with animal sensitivity to the disease and selection of the results of genotyping of animals with increased resistance. Due to researches, one of such locuses is alpha-fukozyltrasferаza 1 gene (FUT1). Gen
