Abstract Strategic management is an integral part of top management. By formulating the right strategy and its subsequent implementation, a managed organization can attract and retain a comparative advantage. In order to fulfil this expectation, the strategy also has to be supported with relevant findings of performed strategic analyses. The best known and probably the most common of these is a SWOT analysis. In practice, however, the analysis is reduced to mere presentation of influence factors, which does not allow more precise determination of a strategic concept. The content of the article tries to remove this drawback, submitting for public discussion two possible approaches to evaluate the SWOT analysis providing important information for the selection process of an organization's strategic orientation.

Este trabalho visa criar uma conexão teórica entre o método SWOT e os princípios do pensamento sistêmico, de modo a melhorar a compreensão da dinâmica de forças do sistema no qual se pretende intervir, fazendo um grafo com os fatores do SWOT e estabelecendo as relações sistêmicas entre eles. A partir deste grafo, buscam-se os mapas e arquétipos sistêmicos para exemplificar, na forma de estruturas gráficas, o pensamento das pessoas ou da equipe envolvida no planejamento. As estruturas arquetípicas definem categorias de situações problemáticas genérica, mas pouco reconhecidas à primeira vista, de modo que o software, ao encontrar uma dinâmica típica de uma determinada estrutura arquetípica, permite ao usuário reconhecer os pontos de atuação com alavancagem, para melhores efeitos de eficácia estratégica no sistema. Esta abordagem combinada possibilita um planejamento estratégico mais preciso e eficaz, optando os participantes envolvidos por ações nos pontos que movem o sistema em direção aos objetivos desejados. Este trabalho contém a aplicação do método sistêmico proposto, completando e ampliando os resultados de dois planejamentos reais, realizados com uso do método tradicional de SWOT: (1) o Planejamento da University of Warwick, publicado em 2004, e (2) o planejamento de 2013/2027 da UFPE.
This work aims to establish a theoretical connection between the SWOT method and principles of systems thinking in order to improve the understanding of the dynamic forces of the system on which it intends to intervene, making a graph with the SWOT factors and establishing systemic relations between them. From this graph, looking up maps and systemic archetypes to exemplify, in the graphic structures form, people's thinking or the team involved in the planning. The archetypal structures define categories of problematic situations generic, but little recognized at first glance, so the software to find a typical dynamics of a particular archetypal structure, allows the user to recognize the performance points with leverage for better effects of strategic effectiveness in the system. This combined approach enables a more accurate and effective strategic planning, opting for the participants involved by actions in points that move the system towards the desired goals. This work contains the application of the systemic method proposed, complementing and extending the results of two real plans, made using the traditional SWOT method: (1) the University of Warwick Planning, published in 2004, and (2) the planning 2013/2027 at UFPE.

Abstract:

1997 förvärvades Ericssons fabrik i Kristianstad av Nolato AB i Torekov. 1998 delades Kristianstadsfabriken upp i tre bolag, Nolato Mobile, Nolato Alpha och Nolato Autec. Totalt hade dessa tre bolag 901 anställda 1998. Två år senare, år 2000, var de uppe i cirka 1200 anställda. År 2001 skedde en uppbromsning av telekommarknaden som ledde till stora omstruktureringar inom Nolato. Året därpå slogs Kristianstads tre bolag samman till ett bolag, Nolato Alpha. Efter omstruktureringen hade Nolato Alpha drygt 600 anställda år 2002. Kraven på nedskärning fortsatte och flera sparkrav åtgärdades. Nu år 2004 efter ytterligare ett varsel i april 2004 kommer antalet anställda vara nere i drygt 200.

Verktygsavdelningen som levererat verktyg till Nolato Alpha har under många år varit skonade från varsel. Detta har motiverats av att avdelningens resurser har varit maximalt utnyttjade då ett verktyg tillverkats. Avdelningen behöver en genomsnittlig överkapacitet, ty resurskraven är så pass stora när väl order på komponenter till ett verktyg, även kallat systemprojekt, anländer. Detta har gjort att det varit svårt för Nolato Alpha att skära ner på personalstyrkan.

I skrivande stund har dock Nolato Alpha skurit så mycket i personalstyrkan att det inte längre går att motivera en fullt bemannad verktygsavdelning. Sparkraven drabbar nu även verktygsavdelningen.

Eftersom den sviktande marknaden följaktligen påverkar verktygsavdelningen innebär detta att de inte längre kan lita på Nolato Alpha bidrar till full sysselsättning. De måste nu finna nya utvägar, alternativa marknadsstrategier för att åter igen utnyttja sina resurser till max, så som maskiner, kunskap och erfarenhet.

Denna rapport behandlar huruvida verktygsavdelningen, med befintliga resurser och rådande marknadssituation inom telekombranschen, har möjlighet att välja nya marknadsstrategier för att nå ut till nya marknader med nya produkter.

Abstract:
Social Web of Things (SWoT) is a user centric framework which facilitates interaction between software agents deployed on smart things and in the cloud. Software agents deployed on smart things are remotely accessible, host sensitive resources, and often represent high value targets. SWoT currently does not feature adequate security mechanisms which could protect software agents from unauthorized access. In this thesis, we aim to rectify this deficiency by introducing platform independent, exible, and user centric authorization mechanism inSWoT. We derive requirements and design of abstract authorization architecture from the preceding seminal work performed in SENSEI project. SENSEI and SWoT share same problem domain, but while SENSEI addresses enterprise use cases SWoT focusses on consumer use cases. This single but fundamental difference motivates adaptations of SENSEI contributions for application in SWoT. To realize concrete authorization architecture we perform extensive study of various authorization solutions. Results of our study indicate that novel User Managed Access (UMA) protocol represents promising solution for SWoT. We present the Authorization as a Service solution for SWoT framework, based on UMA protocol. This solution enables users to manage and control communication between software agents deployed on smart things and in the cloud from single centralized location. It also features runtime association of software agents, management, evaluation, and enforcement of access permissions for resources provided by software agents.
"Social Web of Things" (SWOT) är en användarcentrerad ram som underlättar samverkan mellan agenter som körs på smarta saker och i molnet. Agenter som körs på smarta saker är fjärråtkomst, värd känsliga resurser, och ofta utgör högt värde mål. För närvarande SWOT ramverket omfattar inte lämpliga säkerhetsmekanismer som skulle kunna skydda dessa agenter från obehörig åtkomst. I denna uppsats vill vi rätta till detta brist genom att införa plattformsoberoende, flexibel och användarvänlig centrerad auktorisation mekanism i SWOT ramen. Vi härleda krav och design av abstrakt tillstånd arkitektur från föregående sädes-arbete som utförs i ett SENSEI projektet. SENSEI och SWOT delar samma problem domän, men samtidigt SENSEI behandlar ärenden företagsbruk SWOT fokuserar på konsumenten användningsfall. Denna singel men grundläggande skillnaden motiverar anpassningar av SENSEI avgifter för ansökan i SWOT. Till realisera konkreta tillstånd arkitektur vi utför ett omfattande studie av olika lösningar för tillstånd. Resultat av vår studie tyder på att en ny användarhanterad tillgång (UMA) Protokollet utgör lovande lösning för SWOT. Vi presenterar tillståndet som en service lösning för SWOT ramverk, baserat på UMA-protokollet. Denna lösning gör det möjligt för användare att hantera och kontrollera kommunikationen mellan agenter utplacerade på smarta saker och i molnet från enstaka centraliserad plats. Dessutom gör vår lösning dynamisk sammanslutning av agenter, ledning, utvärdering och tillsyn av tillträde behörigheter för resurser som tillhandahålls av agenter.

The aim of this thesis is to provide a SWOT analysis of the Via Foundation through which is detected potential opportunities and threats for the organization and its current strengths and weaknesses. The theoretical part explains the basic concepts, theoretical knowledge and the process itself concerning the creation of a SWOT analysis. The described methods are then used in the practical part on the example of the Via Foundation. To identify potential opportunities and threats from the external environment is used PEST analysis supported by time series analysis. For discovering potential of the organization in terms of strengths and weaknesses is used the evaluation of selected parameters of the organization as compared to the analogous organizations. In conclusion, the thesis summarizes important information obtained by this analysis and there are proposed recommendations for the organization.

La matriz FODA es la herramienta de análisis por excelencia para fines de negocios, y se enseña en cursos de pregrado y postgrado. Sin embargo, se entiende que la elección de los factores críticos de éxito (FCEs) que se incluyen en la matriz para el análisis es un proceso muy subjetivo y no estructurado, que da cabida a sesgos y arbitrariedad. Una forma de dar una mejor base y respaldo a los resultados del análisis es mediante la utilización del Proceso Jerárquico Analítico (AHP) con el fin de ponderar la importancia de los FCEs en la matriz FODA y aumentar la fiabilidad de los resultados. Este documento contiene el diseño de una estrategia para enseñar este tema en un curso de planificación de marketing, con la adición de una técnica útil para superar las limitaciones de la herramienta.
The SWOT matrix is the quintessential analysis tool for business purposes, and is taught both in undergraduate and postgraduate courses. However, it is widely understood that the selection of the critical success factors (CSFs) that are included for analysis in the matrix is a very subjective and unstructured process, leaving room for bias and arbitrariness. One way to give a better foundation and support to the analysis results is by utilizing Analytic Hierarchical Process (AHP) in order to weigh the importance of CSFs in the SWOT matrix and increase reliability of the output. This paper contains the design of a strategy to teach this topic in a marketing planning course, with the addition of a useful technique to overcome the limitations of the tool.

Abstract:
Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) analysis is one of the most important tools for strategic planning. The traditional method of conducting SWOT analysis does not prioritize and is likely to hold subjective views that may result in an improper strategic action. Accordingly, this research exploits Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA), a technique for measuring customers’ satisfaction based on survey data, to systematically generate prioritized SWOT factors based on customers’ perspectives which in turn produces more accurate information for strategic planning. This proposed approach is called IPA based SWOT analysis and its development issues discussed in this report are: (1) selecting a technique for measuring importance which is one of the two main aspects of IPA since currently there are no well-established approaches for measuring importance; and (2) identifying opportunities and threats since only strengths and weaknesses can be inferred from the IPA result. The first issue is addressed by conducting an empirical comparison to analyse the performance of various techniques for measuring importance. Specifically, this thesis considers two data mining techniques namely Naïve Bayes and Bayesian Networks for measuring importance and compares their performance with other techniques namely Multiple Linear Regressions, Ordinal Logistic Regression and Back Propagation Neural Networks that have been used to derive the importance from the survey data. The comparison result measured against the evaluation metrics suggests that Multiple Linear Regressions is the most suitable technique for measuring importance. Regarding the second issue, opportunities and threats were identified by comparing the IPA result of the target organisation with that of its competitor. Through the use of IPA based SWOT analysis, it is expected that an organisation can efficiently formulate strategic planning as the SWOT factors that should be maintained or improved can be clearly identified based on customers’ viewpoints. The application of the IPA based SWOT analysis was illustrated and evaluated through a case study of Higher Education Institutions in Thailand. The evaluation results showed that SWOT analysis of the case study has a high face validity and its quality is considered acceptable, thereby demonstrating the validity of this study. Although the application of IPA based SWOT analysis was illustrated in the specific field, it can be argued that IPA based SWOT analysis can be used widely in the other business areas where SWOT analysis has been seen to be applicable and the customer satisfaction surveys are generally conducted.

การวิจัยเรื่อง การประยุกต์ใช้การวัดผลเชิงดุลยภาพในการบริหารจัดการงานห้องสมุดคณะรัฐศาสตร์ จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย เป็นการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อประยุกต์ใช้เทคนิคการวัดผลเชิงดุลยภาพในการปฏิบัติงานด้านต่างๆ ในห้องสมุด โดยอาศัยแนวคิดการวัดผลเชิงดุลยภาพของ Robert S. Kaplan และ David P. Norton ด้วยการกำหนดมุมมองในการประเมิน 4 ด้าน ได้แก่ มุมมองด้านลูกค้า มุมมองด้านกระบวนการภายใน มุมมองด้านการเรียนรู้และพัฒนา และมุมมองด้านการเงินและมีการดำเนินงานเป็นขั้นตอนต่างๆ ได้แก่ การวิเคราะห์ทางกลยุทธ์โดยการประเมินสถานการณ์ภายในและสถานการณ์ภายนอก (การวิเคราะห์ SWOT) การกำหนดวิสัยทัศน์ พันธกิจ วัตถุประสงค์ และกลยุทธ์ของห้องสมุด การทำแผนที่ทางกลยุทธ์ระดับห้องสมุด โดยกำหนดเป้าหมายและวัตถุประสงค์เชิงกลยุทธ์ในแต่ละมุมมอง การวิเคราะห์และกำหนดตัวชี้วัด รวมทั้งการศึกษาผลการปฏิบัติงานในปัจจุบัน เป้าหมายในอนาคต และโครงการหรือกิจกรรมที่จะต้องทำเพื่อแปลงและถ่ายทอดตัวชี้วัดและเป้าหมายไปสู่การปฏิบัติ และการทดลองเทียบเคียง (Benchamarking) กับห้องสมุดในกลุ่มสังคมศาสตร์และมนุษยศาสตร์ในจุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย 5 คณะ ได้แก่ ห้องสมุดคณะพาณิชยศาสตร์และการบัญชี ห้องสมุดคณะครุศาสตร์ ห้องสมุดคณะเศรษฐศาสตร์ ห้องสมุดคณะนิติศาสตร์ และห้องสมุดคณะอักษรศาสตร์ ผลจากการศึกษาในครั้งนี้พบว่า 1. ห้องสมุดคณะรัฐศาสตร์ จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย ได้กำหนดวิสัยทัศน์ให้เป็นหน่วยงานภารรัฐที่ไม่หวังผลกำไร และเป็นแหล่งบริการสารสนเทศทางรัฐศาสตร์ชั้นนำระดับประเทศ 2. โดยมีพันธกิจ คือการสร้างความพึงพอใจให้แก่ผู้ใช้ เป็นผู้นำด้านบริการสารสนเทศทางรัฐศาสตร์ และให้บริการสารสนเทศประเภทต่างๆ อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ บริหารจัดการให้บุคลากรมีขวัญกำลังใจในการปฏิบัติงาน รวมทั้งรับผิดชอบและให้ความสำคัญต่อการบริการสังคม 3. ผลจากการวิเคราะห์ SWOT พบว่ากลยุทธ์ระดับองค์กรของห้องสมุดเป็นกลยุทธ์รุกขยาย ส่วนกลยุทธ์ระดับธุรกิจได้แก่การเสริมสร้างการบริการของห้องสมุดให้เป็นห้องสมุดอิเล็กทรอนิกส์ (e-Library) อย่างเต็มรูปแบบด้วยเทคโนโลยีสารสนเทศที่ทันสมัยและมีประสิทธิภาพ
