Abstract:
The article analyzes Tomasz Różycki’s poetic volume Letters in the light of selected philosophical contexts in order to demonstrate the correspondence between Różycki’s poetic imagination and Heraclitus’ philosophy and the possibility of equating the letters with a logos, a fundamental concept in the Ionian philosophy of nature. Accordingly, the letter helps to connect the poetic world and the absolute sense, from which everything else results. Secondly, the potential relations between the chaos often appearing in Różycki’s poems and the apeiron of Anaximander have been pointed out. Yet anothe

The article discusses the issues of studying and interpreting number symbolism in a literary work and characteristics of gospel number symbolism in the Christian context. In 20th-century Russian literature, the Christian tradition had a decisive impact on shaping the meaning of number symbolism. An important feature of the Christian symbolism of numbers is the correlation of number symbolism with two spheres, which can be designated as “positive” (sacral) and “negative” (sinful). The author proposes a methodology for interpreting number symbolism, which comprises three stages: 1) a description

The article seeks to answer the question what it is about the place which is called home in John McGahern’s novel That They May Face the Rising Sun (2002), i.e. what it is that substantiates it and being in it and a return to it. It argues that the homeplace in the narrative of the novel is defined by two symbolic planes: home is not only a physical and material and social place/ space within a certain geography in the novel, but also is of the ontological structure which is the meeting point of two trajectories that cross over: one of them is the vertical − the sacred, the other is the horizo

In the present article, we study more issues of color semantics and symbols. Our research is based on the analysis of mainly Daghestani folklore and ethnographic materials and colour characteristics of traditional textiles, including carpets. We examined two methods of gathering evidence about associations of colours in the minds of people. The first is to use some kind of psychological tests. The second is to use ideas incorporated in folklore and folk litera- ture, as handed down through generations of narrators and listeners. During this process, successive narrators have unconsciously filt

Abstract:
Sofia Gubaidulina's compositions are characterized by a special kind of symbolism and constructivism both based on numbers, i.e. mathematical proportions. In almost all her works so-called numerical plots can be detected. The proportions of the Fibonacci series provide a basis for many of her works composed since the beginning of the 1980s. In more recent times she used some rows derivating from the Fibonacci series, in particular the Lucas sequence.

Abstract:
This study used content analysis to investigate the development of the concept of variables in middle grades mathematics textbooks during four eras of mathematics education in the United States (New Math, Back to Basics, Problem Solving, and the NCTM Standards era: 1957 – 2009). It also examined the nature of support that the curricula provide for teachers to enact variables ideas in the classroom. Findings revealed that each of the middle grades mathematics curricula examined used variables, but in varied proportions and levels of complexity. Formal definitions for variables were found in 11

Abstract:
Until fairly recently, linguistics has been classified as a ‘science’ by definition, averral, and ideology rather than because of the uniformity of its practices across its many schools of thought. It is seldom the case in any discipline that a particular phenomenon begins to question that discipline’s raison d’etre, withdraw the option and luxury of its often directionless and eclectic practices and proceed to force unwelcome and sweeping changes upon the discipline by beginning to dictate its method. This paper re-states its author’s earlier proofs as claims that collocation as instrumentation for meaning is a scientific fact. The burden of this proof has acquired renewed urgency of an interdisciplinary nature that makes this paper both timely and necessary. The claim for collocation as science is reinforced by a number of new discoveries: the fact that all devices are brought about by relexicalisation as a marked form rather than the purported markedness that is mentalist and hence, merely averred. Collocation, corpus, stylistics, instrumentation, delexicalisation, relexicalisation, science, empiricism, philosophy of language, chunking, context of situation, context of culture, worlds, intuition, subtext, symbolism, co-selection.

Abstract:
In school, reading literacy is also vital for learning mathematics and development of mathematical literacy. In addition to knowing and understanding numbers, symbols, and relations among them, also large enough vocabulary is needed, and the ability of reading and understanding word problems or mathematical texts. The empirical research is based on the descriptive and causal non-experimental method, with data having been gathered with the support of a test of mathematical knowledge. In the sample, 89 students of the third grade of basic school were involved. The results of the empirical research that examined the relations between the performance of students in mathematics and in Slovenian have shown the students with higher grades in Slovenian have performed better in solving simple and more demanding mathematical problems than the students with lower grades in Slovenian.

Abstract:
From his early days in the Neon Boys through the Voidoid’s Blank Generation, Hell seeded references to Nerval, Rimbaud, Artaud, and other writers into his lyrics. While the influence of French literature on Hell’s musical output is fairly well documented, however, what is not investigated sufficiently is how, like a number of the musicians considered here, Hell’s love for French romantic, symbolist and surrealist literature coincided with an increasing attraction to the chirpy poetics of sociability then dominant in New York’s literary avant-gardes. Beginning with an in-depth reading of Hell’s editorship of a Lower East Side-based literary magazine Genesis : Grasp, this chapter moves on to explore how the St. Mark’s poets’ critical engagement with seriousness as a mode informed Hell’s literary and musical tastes. Hell would never read poetry or listen, sing and play music in such a way as to presuppose solemnity, intensity and passion were prima facie good things.

Abstract:
The Northern Ireland pre-school curriculum promotes educational development through enabling learning environments and active learning through play and exploration. Enabling learning environments are rich in books, pictures, signs, symbols, rhymes, and multimedia technology. Through play and exploration, children are engaged in activities that interest and preoccupy them. The resources that are used as a context for play have an important bearing on the depth of learning experienced by a child. According to the Early Years Foundation Stage, from age 40 months, a child's literacy and numeracy can develop rapidly with the support of a wide range of interesting materials, activities, media, and technologies (Department for Education, 2008). The aim of this project is to create the “SmartFun” literacy and numeracy E-Learning application. “SmartFun” is a fun, engaging environment to promote the early learning of letters and numbers for pre-school and primary one children.
