In this article we report on a hexactinellid sponge new to science, Tretopleura weijicus sp. nov., which was collected from the Weijia Seamount in the northwestern Pacific Ocean at a depth of 1995 m. Its blade-like and branching body form, the primary choanosomal framework consisting of multiaxial longitudinal strands without synapticula, and the presence of sceptrules suggest placement within the family Uncinateridae Reiswig, 2002, which is also supported by molecular phylogenetic evidence from COI and 16S sequences. AbstractRugose corals are thought to have evolved from an ancestral anthozoan during the Middle Ordovician Epoch even though there is a lack of fossil evidence for the early evolutionary history of the Rugosa. Previously documented species of early rugose corals are all assigned to the main orders Calostylina, Streptelasmatina, Cystiphyllina and Stauriina, which had all evolved by the late Sandbian. Lambelasma? sp., a new rugose coral, was recovered from the upper Darriwilian (Middle Ordovician) part of the Shirgesht Formation of Central Iran. One of the fossils, partly embedded in rock matrix

The phylogenetic relationships of the scleractinian genus Psammocora with the other genera traditionally included in the family Siderastreidae and some Fungiidae are assessed based on combined skeletal and molecular data. P. explanulata differs from the other examined congeneric species (P. contigua, P. digitata, P. nierstraszi , P. profundacella, P. superficialis, and P. stellata) in possessing interstomatous septa between adult corallites, costae, and in having continuous buttress-like structures joining septal faces (i.e., fulturae) which typically occur in fungiids. Abstract Background Basolateral amygdala (BLA) excitatory projections to medial prefrontal cortex (PFC) play a key role controlling stress behavior, pain, and fear. Indeed, stressful events block synaptic plasticity at the BLA-PFC circuit. The stress responses involve the action of corticotrophin releasing factor (CRF) through type 1 and type 2 CRF receptors (CRF1 and CRF2). Interestingly, it has been described that dopamine receptor 1 (D1R) and CRF peptide have a modulatory role of BLA-PFC transmission. However, the participation of CRF1 and CRF2 receptors in BLA-PFC synaptic transmission sti

The associative memory of the brain is thought to be well modelled by attractorneural networks. A sort of artificial neural network that may store memories and has the ability to associate them with distorted input. The memories may be stored in the system by changing the connecting weights depending on the activity pattern in the network, a process known as synaptic plasticity. There are several different theories of the conditions required for the strength of synaptic connection increase or decrease and which one of these that is the most likely is still an open issue.
